Hi Nvragn, I'm really behind on comments. This time of year is really hard to keep my head above water. Lots of trees down in the bush and pushing to get all the drops installed before Christmas. I'm a bit behind at the present. Thanks for the comments! See you in the next video! Kevin
Nice you just made my day. Ty ever so much for the response. Please you do you and us subs will wait for as long as necessary. Family first is just how I see it. I kinda figured that it was the case. And most definitely see you in the next one. You do know that is my line right? It's all good you can use it anytime you like 😜. I hear you we are the same. The final push before the holiday season. Tty again soon. Please pass my regards to your beautiful family. You are a very lucky man but I don't need to tell you that you already know it. It's what God wanted for you and no one deserves it more than you my friend 👍 🙏🇨🇦🔧
Hello Mill Gap subscribers!! When he says it’s steep he means it. We went for a ride to tippy top on the side by side and let me tell you it is surprising how high it goes.
I just realized I am running a bit low the other day. About time to get quite literally the best maple syrup I've ever had. Everyone is always partial to the syrup from their own State. I wonder if there's something to that because I'm definitely partial to Mill Gap for sure!
It has been a beautiful fall so far. We got snow in Oct and last week too. I am hoping for lots of snow! Thanks for watching and commenting Banjobenson! Kevin
Great Video Kevin! We were just at the North American Maple Conference in Portland Maine, Where I learned something I sort of knew. University of VT was telling us about number of taps per tree, 2-3 taps per tree on buckets were no problem, each tap produced the same amount of sap. But that same number of taps on vacuum was interesting, 3rd tap doesn't produce anything and the 2nd tap only produces 33% and the 1st tap is 100% sap production. I think you are on the right track there and look forward to hearing about your season. Take care and God bless.
Those are interesting stats Mr. Sawyer. Were they talking about 5/16 or 3/16? I am reducing tap counts and it would almost make sense to have 2 taps per tree even if it only produced 33% more than 1... What do you do up your way? Thanks Kevin
@@MillGapFarms The data was for no vacuum and vacuum and the smaller trees see no benefit to a 2nd tap. So if a farmer is running vacuum the extra taps are not productive for him or the tree, unless the tree is huge. We have paired down to one tap per tree, with the exception of a few trees that are well over 20 inches in diameter and are very healthy, those have two taps. When those ones get tapped the two taps are put as far apart from each other as possible. If my math is correct and everything is working at peak performance, that 2nd tap will yield about a pint of syrup, my farms average is 3 pints of syrup per tap. So that would be a 2/3 reduction in production. Hope that helps.
Clear as mud Mr. Sawyer... hahaha. Thanks for helping me understand this better! Are you guys getting ready. I'm just about at the top of the south side, 800 taps in total...then I'm off to the north side of the farm 2,200 ish... of course reducing them down but that's what I'm starting with. The number of trees down on the north side is a video in itself... I hope to post it this week. Kevin
@@MillGapFarms Wish I had been able to record the tech sessions and share them on TH-cam, I was one of the volunteers helping run the event and did not have the time or a gopro to do it. There is always next time. Wow you have your work cut our for sure. We are getting ready, just got part of my order of spouts and we have been cutting trees off of lines and fixing anything we find. Will go whole hog on the woods December 2nd and get a bunch of spouts installed. Have a couple of videos to edit and upload too, (in my spare time.) lol
Would you ride a Selle Italia seat or a walmart brand seat? They are both seats right? For those who don't know, a Selle Italia is a saddle or what is called a bicycle seat. They are in the top overall range of bike seats in the world. The pros who ride the big tours (Tour de France, Giro, etc...) use these seats. I personally rode San Marcos since the 80's and I have a couple of the Sella Italia's on some bikes. They are very very nice saddles for sure. Much like seats, syrup has a lot of personal choice involved. What is sold at Walmart is a blended product. Both from a sap and syrup perspective. There is nothing wrong with that, it's how the industry works. 99.99 times out of a 100 if you are buying syrup, it's blended. Ours is not blended with sap from other farms, syrup from other farms and we don't blend within the color spectrum. With this being said, it's the purest maple syrup that can be bought. And it tells the story of the weather that day on the farm. Is it expensive, yes. The amount of work that goes into producing it is why. It's not for everyone, we completely understand that. Much like a saddle, you find one that works well for you and you stick with it. Thanks for watching and posting your thoughts. Hope to see you in more comments. Ride safe! Kevin
@MillGapFarms should be able to but I just use a whatever sharpie on 5/16. Give it a shot. Different color tape could mean different things or write on tape too
I like your thinking... I did that at one time but that process fell by the wayside. I will resurect it today!!! Thanks for the suggestion! This is what make you tube fun. Kevin
What a plesent surprise 👍🇨🇦🔧

Hope you guys are doing well! Thanks for sharing...I still don't know how to capture the steepness in a video. See you in the next one. Kevin

No, my son in law’s family is all from West Virginia, and the grandgirls all agree that Mill Gap Farm has the best syrup!
You guys are AWESOME!!! Thanks for supporting us! Your comments mean a lot to us! Kevin
Great video, working the slope really looks like it would keep you in tip top shape, hale and healthy. Have a Great day.
I wish I were in shape. I don't know if you hear it in this video... I'm huffing and puffing! Thanks for watching Mr. Conner. Kevin

Get in while the getting is good. I saw 16 oz for 18.00 from walmart. I would love to buy some but that's way expensive.

Check out estate sales for a used washer. Sometimes you can find a good one for a few dollars.
Or maybe facebook market place. That seems to have all sort of things... Thanks for the suggestion! Kevin
I write on tube with sharpie
You can write on a 3/16"tube? I'm guessing you use a fine line... great idea! Kevin
@MillGapFarms should be able to but I just use a whatever sharpie on 5/16. Give it a shot. Different color tape could mean different things or write on tape too
Write the problem on the orange tape, then you don’t have to remember what is wrong with each tape marker.
