When you find out I preferred Cruella...

I’ve heard good things.
I can't wait to see your review, Amanda! Finally, a decent live action Disney remake/retelling!
Oof
I can’t wait for your review of Cruella
“I magically got over my trauma of my family dying by going through another trauma of almost being killed”
THIS
i got so mad because in the movie it takes her months to get back outside, in the book it’s WEEKS. HOW IN THE HELL
*Seems legit.*
I had the exact same thought i had at the end of it..... Like thats not how that works lol
Not trying to get to graphic here, but I was a victim of sexual assault as a teen. Years later I got robbed at gun point. I didn't react well but I reacted well enough and no one got hurt. A couple years later, I had a man expose himself to me in his car walking home from a closing shift. I went into action: got his plates, called the cops, got a good description, scared him off. All that shit sucked and the cops never did shit but it was the final straw for me. This stuff kept happening and I was done with it. I got into counseling, bought pepperspray, and made a plan for how to respond to certain scary things so I'd be prepared if something God forbid happened again. Trauma can cause regression (I know it) but it can also cause growth. So it's kind of accurate in my case, but that doesn't mean it will for everyone. I still get scared and have flashbacks, but I feel a lot better because I finally got help and I have a plan of action just in case
I just wanna know the member of the team who read the book and was like: “You know what this movie is missing? A scene where Amy Adams’ face gets stabbed by a freaking garden fork”
OMG YES THAT WAS BIZARRE AS FUCK???
That was actually one of my favorite parts of the movie! Lol 😂 it was just so shocking and unexpected! But I'm a sucker for a good gorey shock gag, so.... 🤷🏼♀️

AND LEAVES NO SCAR??
@@andresloaiza4707 Right?! I mean, she did have a small scar but still. Anyway, I love Amy Adams, so I was so happy to see her looking stunning as always by the end of the movie
The disturbing act of violence that she saw was this movie
Preach, once you see it, it can't be undone, though it's fun to hate watch!
@@trinaq I disagree it annoyed me too much to enjoy to any capacity
The rear window was better 😯
Si.
@@AmandaTheJedi Not even spite could pull enjoyment from you?
Weirdly the whole time I watched this movie I assumed they were gaslighting her by interfering with her phone lines. I thought it was a psychological thriller, and weirdly, I kept thinking this was a smarter movie than it was. And then finally when it turned into a weird action movie where a woman fist fights a serial killer I was like whoa this is highly highly intense garbage
The scene where she's in the hospital and the cop comes in is the worst. So unrealistic and it just drags on.
That scene is where I officially checked out of the movie. Not gonna lie, I was into it until then.
Hey, this exactly describes my feelings of the movie The Snowman
I read the book and it was waayyy better than the movie. The book is more of a psychological thriller. It made more sense as why the person at the end was the person who did it (trying to explain this without spoiling anything lol)
True.
“An agoraphobic woman living alone in New York begins spying on her new neighbors only to witness a disturbing act of violence.”
So pretty much the same story Hitchcock did about being stuck at home, spying on you’re neighbors and finding out one of them killed there spouse that literally every TV series has had an episode about.
That was my first thought when I found out about this movie: wait, it's not a Rear Window remake?
I actually thought it WAS that Hitchcock movie...
Castle had an episode like this and isn't that also the plot of disturbia?
@@kaizokujwastaken i love that episode of Castle and of course I know the Hitchcock movie. So it was baffling to hear about the bidding wars over this book/script since we all have seen this kind of story SO often.
That plot was considered an old hat before that expression ever came to be heck even Hitchcock wasn't the first to lay his hands on it.
Did I think that "Jane Russell" was a total hallucination because she had the same name as 50s actress Jane Russell and Amy Adam's character was constantly seen watching black and white films? Yes. Yes I did
That would have been great and super meta
lol this is exactly what Anna starts to think in the book
"did I just make her up because I'm lonely?"
"I like cats' tongues. They're coarse and rough and get everywhere."
- what half-asleep just-finished-work-me thought the kid was going to say despite having seen this film a week and a half ago
Don't forget irritating! 😂
Every. Freaking. Time.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wish they made Ethan a sympathetic and confused killer. It would make more sense if he accidentally killed his birth mom in a fit of rage or fear and then killed Amy Adams to tie up loose ends and preserve his dream of a happy family. Once they make him the mastermind, it seems so flimsy and unbelievable.
Or wanting Amy to be his mom, but this perfect idealized version, like a doll house where he controls all the dolls. And she has to endure weeks of this a figure out how to escape.
literally his motivations are "i want to be a serial killer" ??? it's so stupid
Yeah there was potential for a cool character there if they'd just made him super creepy and delusional. Like, during their first meeting he seemed very naive but also really... off. And they easily could've built on that.
Yes definitely agree and I think that's why I got frustrated with the reveal in the book as it takes a similar, nondynamic approach. The setup vs the payoff is just severely lacking here
"I'm an edgy killer booooy"
They had two Oscar Winners, two Oscar Nominees, an acclaimed director, screenwriter and Sam "The Falcon" Wilson on board with this project... Only to completely squander all of their talents. 🤦🏽♀️
i got so excited when i saw sam ngl best part of the movie
The did the same with "I Care a Lot"
Sad.
i totally agree w/everything you said but sam is officially cap now. why still refer to him as falcon? jw
They had Captain America and Lois Lane and they still fucked up lol.
When a character or characters do things that are illogical or contrary to professional norms in order to manipulate the plot, it makes me angry and destroys my “willing suspension of disbelief“. It’s also insulting to the audience.
THANK YOU! YES that's a fantastic way to put it - I'm fine to let little logic inconsistencies go as long as the story is still flowing in an enjoyable way - but when it's just back to back things that make NO SENSE.. too much
This is disappointing. Maybe I shouldn’t assume it’s going to be a good movie just because Amy Adams is in it lol
Amy Adams appears to be getting to the point where Nic Cage was for a long time - really good actor, TERRIBLE roles
@@Ashen.Elixer good point!
What a coincidence: "Maybe I shouldn’t assume it’s going to be a good movie just because Amy Adams is in it lol" was spot on how I felt when I was choosing to watch it, and "This is disappointing" was how I felt while I did
It’s an easy mistake to make
I liked it 🤣
"He seems like an overall sweet kid."
.....did he though? I was suspicious of him right from the get go.
He reminds me of Denny from The Room, and I agree with the video game's take on Denny.
In the book or movie?
Definitely! I was watching this with my friend and I told him the second I saw this kid that he's either gonna die or turn out to be the bad guy
He reminds me of Simple Jack if anything
@@louparis1909 I’ve never seen the movie, but I remember reading the book and I was immediately suspicious of him. When I first heard about the Dan Mallory story, I knew he was a compulsive liar. My sister would make up the same lies all the time, especially cancer. Compulsive liars are obsessed with cancer.
I'd imagine it's not really their fault on this one; it's the PR machine cancer has. "Cancer" in terms of cultural context is just "the worst possible thing" because the PR machine has done so well. It's indiscriminate, so its victims aren't only of an "unsympathetic" (historically oppressed) group. It's slow, so it doesn't make the unsightly person go away immediately and thus make it easier for everyone to ignore. It's obvious, so you can't just ignore a cancer patient's suffering. And it's complicated, so we can't solve it quickly.

*Mom:* No, we have rear window at home
*Rear window at home:*
I tried watching it as I myself have agoraphobia but it became quickly obvious that this was Hollywoods version of agoraphobia that means you can't leave your house. It is more of an extreme social anxiety thing so the reason for staying indoors is to avoid people. You certainly wouldn't let strangers in and have a convo. Also leaving the house might cause a panic attack but passing our us a rare thing with a panic attack and there is more hyperventilating stuff. Also had a feeling her agoraphobia would be 'cured' by the end. Looks like I was right. Surprisingly traumatic events actually worsen an anxiety disorder, they don't make them magically disappear and you don't get the 'it's a wonderful life' moment of realization that live is worth living. Was kinda more hoping for an insight into the horror that is mental illness. I mean agoraphobia is a thiller you live. Maybe one day
I hope you're steadily feeling better.
I saw the trailer for this and thought it had potential to be a great mystery/psychological thriller, but when I actually saw the movie I was really disappointed. I think its a good plot, but it was just executed poorly

I liked the book and was excited about the movie. But now, the more I think about it the more I hate it. It's a terrible adaptation!!! The end is a mess. And it's sad because Amy Adams is really trying to do a good job. The way they talk about the family is so abrupt. The tenant's personality changes from being this cool guy that helps to be an angry a-hole that looks like is about to hurt her (why is he angry that she's in his apartment if he goes to hers without asking?)
Also, I dream that one day I'll faint and I'll wake up to Juliane Moore.
Those did strike me as odd. The way she stands there and then the woman detective is like "your family is dead". What?
And David was so cool in the beginning but then turned around and it seriously threw me off guard. Like, what was the point of that? To have him be part of the group that thinks she's crazy? He still could have stayed a nice guy.
Nooo, the film improved on so many of the worst aspects of the book! Amy Adams' Anna was actually a character you could sympathise with and didn't make me want to tear my hair out - a world apart from the book Anna.
This makes me so sad to see because I absolutely adore Amy Adams and she deserves better. I didn't hate this movie though. It's far from perfect but if you're bored on Netflix one night I think it's fine for a Saturday evening watch. Just don't expect high art.
I like her work too, but sometimes you gotta pay the bills. I hope she gets a better project.
She doesn’t deserve better. It was her choice to take this role. She obviously liked it and wanted to be in it, or she knew it was crap and did it for the money. But considering the paycheck she got for that big budget movie with the two guys yelling about Martha she doesn’t need money that bad
@@DashingPunkSamurai well considering this film had rewrites and reshoots it probably isn't the original vision she signed on for.

Between this movie and Hillbilly Elegy, Amy Adams needs to find herself a new agent.
Well except for Zack Snyder's Justice League, Because he only got Supporting role, But It Still Good... i guess?
Or Netflix just really hates her
The thing that makes me so mad: the kid is clearly "supposed to be" on the spectrum in the beginning. I am not, but my husband of 20 years is, and I could see the "signs" even if they were done poorly. I HATE this trope. People on the spectrum are not serial killers. >.
Yeah it's not great :( I guess, technically, he's not on the spectrum he was just pretending to be every time he went to her house so he'd be more sympathetic and the main character would let her guard down. But it does feel like the writers thought those "signs" were very convincing as opposed to the character just not correctly faking it.
I think in the book it is supposed to be him playing up the idea that he's *extremely* sheltered because of his dad's abuse. At least, that's how it is in the book from what I remember. I don't know how much of the sheltered bit he does in this movie.
Not to say it's not a very dumb twist that you can see from a mile away.
@@RebaMedia that's even worse, in my opinion. There's nothing worse than a fucking neurotypical trying to act autistic, just look at the fucking trainwreck of all the harmful autistic character portrayals there are! & for that to be a *plot point* is just adding salt to the wound!
the book is waay better than the movie, its one of my favorite actually, there are a lot of thing that the filmmaker doesn't include, like the part when anna confront jane at a coffee shop, the agora site when anna chatted with 'grannylizzy' and tell him (because its ethan undercover) her secret, etc
I thought this movie was just ok. It entertained me.
It's really impressive that they got Amy Adams, Gary Oldman, and Julianne Moore to star in a Lifetime movie
Damn shame-the cast is *amazing* 😭
Truth, the acting is great, even the gloomy scenery is on point, yet nobody and nothing could save the writing.
A small detail that really annoyed me was that the roommate David said something about Katie never shutting up. And then at the end the detective described the real Jane Russel as never shutting up. It was clear that it was suppose to be a joke about the same character that talks to much, but somehow they messed that up too.
Well...all of this could’ve been avoided if they hadn’t fought in the car in front of their kid.
Yes. Like, I can understand why he was angry and didn't want to do this family thing but why bring it up when your kid is right there? What kind of example does that set? Make your problems everybody's business I guess...
This seems like a ripoff or "Rear Window" by Hitchcock. Just watch that movie, its amazing and has a similar plot about a character watching suspicious events from a window. It has geat acting, great writing and a super engaging mystery.

I actually liked most of this movie, though I think that was just because I could watch Amy Adams do anything. I found the twist that actually she was hallucinating things to be an actually good twist (since in this sort of story it’s normal for the protag to be actually right about everything), but the twist that Ethan was a serial killer was weird and came from nowhere 🤨
Honestly, coming off of Falcon and the Winter Soldier, this felt like if the main cast of that show had a day off while doing the scenes in New York and used it to do some odd acting job in this shitty movie. I kind of expected that at one point Sebastian Stan will come out of the attic as a hobo person who's responsible for some of the weird noises.
Ps.: Honestly, the first, like, half of the movie was pretty okay and atmospheric, but it derailed badly in the last 30 or so minutes. A common mistake of bad thrillers that the setup is much better than the resolution.
Thank you for watching so we didn’t have to. This is my preferred viewing for bad films.
Tim Burton wanted to make the Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Movie before the Book was even published ^^ Maybe that's why there are a lot of difference between Book and Screenplay (In the Book Abe meets Edgar Allan Poe who is also a Vampire Hunter)
Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter is my favorite movie
I saw that movie with my son, we were only happy that the cat didn’t die in the movie.
The "twists" were too easy to guess, also SO many plot holes.
And I really hated people coming inside her house anytime they wanted to, that’s my nightmare right there lol.
I couldn’t believe the way everyone just comes in her house whenever they felt like it, it seemed like a deliberate joke after a while lmao
The cinematography for this film was amazing tho, particularly. Really made me wonder what was real and what wasn’t
A movie about someone stuck in their house witnessing a crime and not being believed? How original.
First thing that came to mind was Disturbia
Please check out “sharp objects” if you haven’t watched it . Amy Adams was brilliant in it and it’s easily the best adaptation of Gillian’s books. It was beautifully done by HBO. (Equally as disturbing as the book tho .maybe more 😂)
But yeah in this case the book was way better , Amy Adams deserved better :(
Watching your videos about bad movies make me feel better about my writing
I loved this movie so much. It's so damn campy. Like almost in a Mommy Dearest kind of way. When the blood splatters across the screen, I knew exactly what kind of ride I was in for.
I know nothing about this movie and have never heard about it, but less than a minute in you already hate it, you look even prettier than usual and Ally merch. I'm making popcorn for this.
This is probably the first film I've seen where they reflect the reality that people with mental illnesses are more likely to be the victims of violent crime than the perpatrators
I also quit the movie and had to force myself to finish it. Glad to know it wasn't just me 😅
Thank you for your sacrifice Amanda. I could not make it through this movie. This was 100 times better than the actual movie 🤣
I both read the book and saw the movie. I didn’t LOVE the book but it’s much better than the part-thriller-part-drama-part-action movie. The biggest difference in my opinion was actually the fact that in the book, Anna KNOWS her family’s dead. It doesn’t come as a surprise to her when the detective says that, only to the readers.
I love it when you hate something you watched. Nothing better than a rant review😂
When the reveal about her family happened and the lights dimmed and everyone was lined up for whatever reason, I honestly thought that the twist was gonna be that this was the most elaborate intervation set up by her therapist to help her come to terms with reality. Didn't seem any less ridiculous than the actually twist of the movie.
So instead of a broken leg, it's a phobia. Otherwise basically Hitchcock. It's crazy how there seem to be no new ideas these days.
I just finished watching this movie. The best part was Amy Adams's performance, it was so good that she tricked me into thinking it was good even though it didn't quite work for me and at first I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it. But then I thought about it and was like, "No, it's kinda stupid and a lot of character choices make no sense."
After all the horrible movies you've watched for good rant content, I suggest you watch some good movies and make reviews about them. Because as much as your audience seems to love you suffer, I think we would also enjoy some reviews of really great movies. For example “Lucky Number Slevin”, which I’ve recently watched for the first time. I was blown away by the amazing plot twist, phenomenal camera shots and all the well-known talented actors involved.
Anyways, I've discovered your channel last week and can't stop binge-watching your videos. I live for the rants haha
OH MAN it’s been years since I’ve watched Lucky Number Slevin. Really liked it.
Good horror thriller is Hush (2016) if you want to see a good home invasion cat and mouse game. Violent though
I've seen the movie and I'm pretty sure watching Amanda's video for 2 hours on repeat would be a better use of my time
I see everyone in the comments recommending better things for Amanda to watch
So I feel like it is my time again to please, kindly recommend Why Women Kill. It's an underrated gem
Now the old song “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?” Is going through my head…
I stumbled onto this movie just yesterday, though I mostly just thought "that sounds like Rear Window" and moved on. Glad I did lol
Oh my god I saw this movie with my dad on his pirating app. I thought it was a terrible movie and kept asking him what was happening. He kept asking me too because he couldn’t understand it either. I thought it was an crappy movie from years ago since the pirating app has a lot of older movies.
Hillbilly Elegy, this ... man I hope Amy Adams gets good projects again. I really want her to win an Oscar one day ...
I was really hoping you'd make a video about this one. You did NOT disappoint!! I'm super sad that this actually upset me as much as it did. As a big fan of the book, it was such wasted potential. They did the main character so dirty when Anna is not nearly as pathetic or antisocial in the book. I get needing to cut content for screentime, but don't let it affect the characters. That's the worst kind of screenwriting you could possibly do for an adaptation.
Good vibes to everyone here 💜
Sends positive vibes back...
Good vibes to you as well 💕💕
Right back at you thank u
Thank you for this elaborate and entertaining review. Once again I was reminded how much of a bad taste in movies I have, or maybe I missed all the flaws because I focused all my attention on Amy Adams. She is just brilliant.
So, Rear Window with poorly-realized sock drawer thriller elements. yikes
Sock door thriller Rear Window. Except Raymond Burr isn’t in it. So it’s gonna suck no matter what.
I have no doubt that watching Amanda describe the film is a billion times more entertaining than actually watching the film itself.
The finger guns at the end just makes my day.
Wtf! I always get a notification seriously, the second you post a video. I just happen to come across this when I went to your channel to try to find an old video I haven't seen yet. Why TH-cam??
Also, I'm about to watch the video. I hope it's as good as Trixie and Katya's reaction to this movie!
interesting this sounds exactly like rear window
Fun fact, there is a similar movie from back in 1957 called The Man at the Window. He doesn't have agoraphobia but is confined to his home where he also spies on his neighbors and witnesses a murder. I watched it a few months back and was surprised to see such a similar movie come out.
I remember when I watched Mother! and felt exactly the same as you. That movie annoyed me so much. And the amount of people who told me and people who thought like me that "yOu jUsT DoN't uNdErStAnD".
You're totally allowed to enjoy these movies and havea good time watching them, but hell don't tell ME to calm down and say I dOn'T gEt iT.
Honestly if you didn’t like mother, I think this movie could change your mind. At least Mother was entertaining and had a bunch of fun trippy visuals. And actually took place in some kind of dream world. This movie is suppose to take place in the real world and the buzzare parts are blamed on drinking and medication.
