Never seen an old 2-stroke torn down and rebuilt. I really miss their simplicity and ease of maintenance. Last one I owned was a 1999 Tohatsu 140. Ran that engine 14 years in salt water and never required anything but routine maintenance.
On this video, you called the backside and O-ring that you put on before you put the bottom of the block cover on after the sealant was put in place. I’m curious to know that this piece being on the bottom of the powerhead is that the one that has the spines in it that goes to the driveshaft for the lower unit? I personally have a black max 150 that I have hit something in the lake and I can hear a rattling in the casing on the lower unit right below the powerhead.
I have a question on the check valve that was installed with the reed plate. Can you explain what that does? I've been chasing a problem on a 2 cylinder Merc (same as this block) and that could be it. Thanks and keep up the good work!!

Enjoy watching a true Craftsman at work!!!
I enjoyed the step by step Mercury Tracker Overhaul! I’ve never had one of those apart.

A good mechanic right there.
Excellent, thanks!

Going that far I would also replace the connector rod
Why do we need new rod screws? Part number 91012? Why can't we use old one?
Surprised silicone sealant is recommended by Mercury on the case halves. OMC outboards calls for Loctite 518 on their case halves.
,👍👍👍👍
