Very informative. I have 2024 tacoma on order. It will be my first ever truck purchase. What’s the best drive mode for light to heavy rainfall, snow, or sleet? Thanks in advance. Do I just keep it in 2H unless I’m off road? 🧐🤔
Thanks! This is my first truck too. In rainfall, sleet, and light snow you'll want to stick with 2H. Toyota's vehicle stability control (VSC) is great for those situations. VCS is always on by default. 4WD is great for snow, but only if it's covering the road thick enough that the tires will slide relatively easily. This is because you need the wheels to have some ability to slide during turns to prevent damage to the system.
@@sixtrejody vehicle stability control. It's on by default. It's great at preventing you from completely losing control if you start sliding. Check out this vid: th-cam.com/video/uFXp4fJbk-8/w-d-xo.html
Manual says to drive 10 miles a month in 4hi to keep it maintained well. You said only to engage it in slippery surfaces, so would you not recommend going to 4hi once a month on the roads for 10 miles?
Only if you're in gravel or dirt. Do not use it if you're on asphalt. Your traction control and vehicle stability control will be good for monsoons, and those systems are on by default.
Almost always 4H. 4L changes your gearing which you don't need is most situations. An example of when you might need 4L is going up/down a very steep muddy incline or when stuck in deep sand.
Thanks for this video! I helped me a lot! I am new with trucks! Quick question. When you are driving in 4H... Is it normal that the close turns are more dificult? Make sense as the 4 wheel are working, but I want to make sure! By the way, I would be amazing if you could do a video talking about MTS and DAC/CRAWL mode! thanks
Iv owned 3 tundra, 2 Tacoma’s and 3 4Runners since 2005. Nothing has changed. I’d be surprised if the card explaining all of this isn’t on the Sun visor like it has been for at least 20 years.
4h for dirt/loose gravel roads…so is that anytime I drive on dirt roads? Because tomorrow I’ll be on a dirt road but it’s pretty maintained should I still use 4h or can I keep it in 2h?
2024 Tacoma 18.2 gals only..vs 3rd gens with 21.1 gals…and almost the MPG’s…meaning more stops at the gas stations.. SAD still NO gas struts for the hood..my 2001 Toyota Camry came with hood gas struts in 2001 ..why for the prices you paid for the 2024 Tacoma… Amazon sells lots of hood gas struts for the Tacomas…people want this feature!

Thanks! Just got my first 4WD truck, 24 TRD off road premium. Exactly the info I needed
That was a useful refresher; going to look and see if you did a video on the different modes of 4WD... thx
There's one for the 3rd gen in our earlier videos. We have one for the 4th gen in the pipeline... coming 2025.
Very interesting and informative..
loving the vids. Keep it up!
Thanks!
You think i can just leave it in 4HI all winter?
The access for the driving modes for 4wd are definitely easier to get to as opposed to the third gen knob.
I agree! It's much better. Thanks for tuning in!
Thanks for the info.. I have a question how do you disengage that brake aid or assist without disabling the traction control
Fully off..
That will be in the settings on the garage cluster. It might be PDA or some other safety feature that controls braking.
4H is 62mph maximum?.... Thanks for the quick video... I have experienced that flashing and the video explained why
Yes, correct
In Florida they tried to sell me an sr5 for 51k lol the Trd’s were 10-20k more.
Wow that's crazy. How much was the markup/dealer accessories?
@@trdtakeover mark up was like 11k, accessories 2k

What if you’re stuck ? What mode should I go into ?
Can you switch to 4HI while driving or do you have to be parked ?
You can do it at any time while under 62mph.
@@trdtakeover why does my 4HI stay blinking when I change it
Please watch the video. It answers all these questions.
Good videos dude!
Appreciate it! Glad you're enjoying them. Is there anything you'd like to see in future ones? We love feedback.

2WD with VSC AND traction control on

Correct. Do not engage on normal roads. If you're going to do the 10miles per month recommendation, you'll still need to find some slippery surfaces.
I notice you're in Arizona, like me, which would you recommend using in monsoon storms in summer? I've yet to use my 4H or 4L gears yet.
