I love the side-by-side planes. The passenger gets a better view and the two doors are great too. I'll also take aluminum vs fabric for the bush. I had a Kitfox and got the fabric torn up several times, whereas the aluminum got scratched. Great video, gentlemen.
Nice, informative, and entertaining comparison of two similar yet different aircraft. Lots of fun to watch. I am a follower of both of your channels as well. Thanks for posting and please keep it up you both!
@@skywagonuniversity5023 I did laugh a lot when y'all were talking about busting your heads open on flaps. Man I had an old A1 husky years ago and got 14 stitches to the backside of my head off of those power steering spades 🤣.
@@skywagonuniversity5023 Very well indeed....plenty of excess power .. I would be at pattern altitude less than 2/3 down runway if I really wanted to pull back on yoke. I like the Rans kit and the Husky both. I dont get the low useful load of Husky...Is there wiggle room there? The Maule had a published useful load of 980 but I flew well over that on some occasions...250 over...Im thinking a 180 may be next bird...if I can convince my wife the C195 is impractical...lol....Is the IO550 best engine option for the 180?
Great Vid, as usual, Mark (and Juan)!! Love both the planes, seems like Id rather take the S21, be easier for me to control and looks better visibility too, plus it's probably less expensive than certificated. I wouldn't be serious back country...
@Skywagon University Where did the wing extensions come from on the S21? I want to go test fly one asap, but the numbers indicate some extra squares would be nice in the wing!
I was surprised, they were both very close !!! Sure to bad you were short on fuel, cruise would have been great to see !! Quite impressed with the Rans 😊
The way you both were talking I would say yes, with the radio's you both have I'm guessing your speeds were probably GPS but if they were indicated speeds they could be a fair amount different ? I was very impressed with the Rans performance against both the Huskey and the Cub !!! And it's a fair amount cheaper than both, plus all aluminum !!! Thank you for the video 👍👍
I learnt in a Beech 'Mouse' and my first tail wheel landing was in our company BE18S. To say that the boss was surprised - when the small landing bounce resulted in the standard tricycle recovery THREE POINTER - was a massive (OH SH*T) understatement. It worked out ok....,.but there was a significant xwind......of course. (1963 Moorabbin airport)
Looks like from a basic performance point of view, you really cannot go wrong with either aircraft. It boils down to what you can afford for the mission you want to meet. That said, the S1 seemed to be just a little bit shorter in both take off and landing than the Husky due to it being ~300 lbs lighter. The other advantage the S1 has over the Husky is if you are the builder of the S1, you become your own cheapest labor when performing maintenance. If you are not the builder of the S1, then it’s apples to apples on the maintenance for both. Good comparison flights. Keep them coming.
I think Mark won but only because of that last landing. Big scratch before the line on the first one. Those huskys are nice and big but man they can hardly haul anything
Cool video, thank you! The trim system on the Husky ruins the airplane... works great in flight, but during landing you're fighting a spring and lose most elevator feel. Husky on 26s is a 105Kt airplane... the Rans should be 25-30Kts faster on same fuel burn.
The Rans was sold when I did this so I was being super careful and had the permission of the new owner. It goes to it's new home on Monday. I could not lend it to other people unfortunately.
Great fun video Mark!
Thanks for the great editing Don!
High praise. Thank you, Juan! - Don the Camera Guy.
Brilliant editing.
Love both of your channels; and it's wonderful to see the two of you together
Thanks! We are having a lot of fun doing this.
Juan with you being with Mark made a great day of fun and flying and I really enjoyed it and you both won
Prizes for everyone ;-)

So much to learn from both of your channels! Love when you guys get together. Hilarious!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good to see you two guys together! I appreciate your knowledge and expertise in all things aviation. (from a washed-out chopper student)
Thank you sir. Just an excellent and informative video. Thoroughly enjoyable!
I am glad you enjoyed it.
fantastic. the two of you together is a lot of fun.
Thanks for watching!
Great video, I enjoy both of your channels.
I watch both channels - good fun and informative video. I think I want a Husky...
Ahem...... Did you hear that I have one for sale and another coming in.
great interview and comparison of aircraft . it was very interesting and informative .
Thank you.
Hello Mark, thanks for great and funny (as always) video!
you guys are great ... very helpful and informative !! thanks for all your efforts - multi camera's was great also !!
Don is the best editor.
That was fun. You two together are great! 🤣
Glad you enjoyed it.
Love to see JB bring Harvey over do a special on it. Love the history on Harvey and what it takes to fly that old Duce.
That is a plan. Juan and Harv' for a chat and a flight.

So cool! I had no idea how large the Husky is!
They are quite big, but it was also nearer the camera.
Great fun with Juan.
Great video ! I'm missing my Maule MX7-235....That bird with just me and 40 gallons would leap off runway and climb ....so much fun.
How would it have done with us and these two planes? Probably very well with the 235 HP.

Love when you two work together. You compliment each other well. What is 24 squared exactly?
24 squared is when you run an engine at 24 inches of manifold pressure ad 2400 RPM. It's about a 75% power cruise setting.
Bravo! Well done Mark!
Who won? Two dudes flying fun planes like those in a nice friendly competition? Certainly no losers here.
I could have done it all day.
@Skywagon University Where did the wing extensions come from on the S21? I want to go test fly one asap, but the numbers indicate some extra squares would be nice in the wing!
It came like that from it's last owner and the new owners mechanic is the guy that did it by co-incidence.
I was surprised, they were both very close !!! Sure to bad you were short on fuel, cruise would have been great to see !! Quite impressed with the Rans 😊
I think speed would have been well matched on those two.

Great video. Thanks.
Thank you.
thanks for the vid. two great aeroplanes facing off. check the typo in the title s21 not s12. cheers.
Fixed. - Don the Camera Guy.
Sprijng trim, like the Piper Tomahawk’s. Hard to maintain trimmed for long time.
Rans for me !!

I wish we had the gas to do the drag race. Placerville has no fuel at the moment and gas was 10 miles away with two cans.
@@skywagonuniversity5023 Next time I'm out that way! Although, you probably sold the S21.
ATC- We'll just hold traffic till you guy's are finished mucking about. LOL
ha yes, but it is an uncontrolled airport so we are just very careful

Well. Too low to take a chance.... ha ah ha At full power those 180 HP Lycomings burn 16 gallons.

Browny on skywagan, nice
I have a later S-21 model with 50 gallons of fuel along with a Carbon Fiber prop.
I bet that is an excellent plane. Maybe bring it here for us to have a look.
❤
Tie !!! They have about the same performance !!!
Thanks.

We, the viewers, won.. 😎
I hope I’m not the only one here that heard “50 gallons of fuel”, and did the math$.
Let Juan fly the Rans for his input. When the fuel pumps are operating.

No they are not Cherry Max. Some Cherry N and Avex brand blind rivets in the kit.
That Husky's prop diameter seems a lot longer
It is a few inches longer yes.
Now just get him a motorcycle....... :)
Never feel sorry for anyone that owns an airplane.
True.
