That has got to be the most generous ,comprehensive demonstration of any medium from any artist I have ever seen online , I’ve only been searching for 12 years . Why is watercolour the cheapest to buy when it’s the most technically difficult. I’ve mastered oil, pastel, acrylic, mixed media . Water colour is my nemesis , I think you have helped me conquer it. Thankyou so much you lovely artist. You selflessly shared everything
I wholeheartedly agree! I was absolutely mesmerized from beginning to end and thoroughly soaking up every gem that Mr. Coney so generously and patiently shared with us. I fully intend to go back and watch several more times! Thank you ever so much Sir Coney, you are a masterful artist as well as a brilliant teacher!! 👩🦳🖌️
I am only 15:00 minutes in and you have shown me so many techniques. Thank you for your generosity in teaching all of us! I have saved your video and will rewatch. It is excellent.
I happened upon this video last night and was delighted that the painting was a seascape--the thumbnail didn't match the content at all. I agree with other comments about the camera work, but I can't say enough positive things about the art and tutorial. OMG. I feel privileged to have gotten to watch this! Mr. Coney is a MASTER. I wish I could just hang in his studio and watch him work for months. Mr. Coney--THANK you for sharing your wonderful skill with all of us! I will be watching this video over and over.
Thanks Paul, and thanks Graeme for this detailed tutorial. This is the best Colour in your Life presentation I have ever watched, [if your aim is to pick up techniques and improve your paintings].
Thank you so much Rick, that is very high praise indeed and much appreciated. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, and there is another one nearly ready to be released, so I hope you enjoy that as well
Paul thanks so much for sharing your process. So many valuable tips on saving the light and shadows. Your thought process from concept to finish was spot on. Love the finished painting it's fresh and calm feel is uplifting. 🙂🇨🇦 Hope to see you again on Colour In Your Life.
Okay, so it was just one of those nights -- woke up at 3:30 a.m. and couldn't get back to sleep. I heard a "bleep" on my cell phone and checked it out. This tutorial showed up, so I clicked on it, noticed the length and figured, "Hmmm...I'll just watch til I fall back to sleep." NO WAY!!!! NO WAY!!! I watched you do the entire video, mesmerized -- you carefully explained each step (THANKS FOR THE GREAT TIPS -- on proper use of frisket to avoid those pesky blank spots -- and also on viscosity of pigment -- SO VALUABLE!!). Yes, I watched it and totally absorbed all of it. BUT IT STILL JUST LOOKS LIKE MAGIC! WHAT THE???? By the time you finished the head on the first seagull I was thrown into a kind of ecstatic fit. There was no going back to sleep for me. BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT! Paul, I just can't thank you enough for sharing your amazing talent and wisdom in such a palatable format. I've got my paints ready and I'm raring to go!
Wow!! I absolutely love how you captured those beautiful sparkles in your amazing painting! You are a truly gifted, skillful artist, your tutorial is full of valuable insights and I thank you so much for sharing them!💞😀
Thank you so very much for this video. It is full of tips that I have never seen before. Wow...I will visit it several times and do a paint along to help me to remember so many things.
I am so looking forward to your next painting I think your a master in your field of water colour. I am an acrylic painter but enjoyed your painting so much. I thank you for sharing. We all have to learn to curb our enthusiasm in art and camera too yes 😊
What are people talking about? I could actually see the colour mixing and the brush strokes due to that zoom. You did great Paul! I learnt so much from this session! Masterclass! Loved the shadows and the light play a lot, especially in a painting where the contrast is not too apparent! I just loved it.
Really loved this. The seagulls are so alive and such a focus of the painting. This video has helped me very much and I will try some of your techniques. Thank you Graeme.
Working with masking flued is great and good experience with you, looking like 👂 feeling better than more natural scenery of the sea shore and birds. thanks again for your help and demo of the water colour painting with masking flued.
This was such a treat to watch! I learned so much from your thought process and seeing your actual brushwork. My favorite parts are the sparkles and the glow of the ochre on the gulls. I also like the initial pale gray wash to tone the paper so the sparkles would pop that much more (I would have been afraid to glaze over the gulls). Can't wait to get painting!
Beautiful and very informative technique... Paul Sir, you are great ! And thanks to Graeme Stevenson for show us beautiful work of great artists.one more thing that we miss your presence in this video.
This THE best watercolour tutorial I have seen! Well done and please post more. The camera work needs to improve a great deal. I’m sure it’s a learning experience.
Thank you Noela, I'm glad you enjoyed it, there will be more to come, and yes, there is a lot we have to work on yet, but thank you for your understanding and appreciation !😊😁😊
Thank you for this video. I've painted in oils all my life and have always wanted to attempt watercolor-but I've been afraid to because the techniques are so opposite to oils. So much of the lighter areas are by omission. You have given me some courage to try watercolor.
Awesome. Definitely I must try this way of painting water. I have been struggling for such a long time to make my water look like water. Thank you for sharing 🙂
Sigh..........absolutely fabulous ! I so wish I had this skill and patience The light in this, the subtlety of the tones in the birds, my god I was mesmerised too , thank you so much for sharing this talent
I have revived tired old masking fluid by adding a couple of drops of household ammonia to the bottle and stirring it in gently til I get an even mix. Works very well
Glad you enjoyed the show. WE will have a new one for you every week for you and our fans, Please if you get the chance it would be great if you told more folks about us. We have worked tirelessly for many years to bring you these Artists, thanks again
This was a really great tutorial. Thanks so much. I love painting water and reflections, but I learned some excellent new techniques. I’m looking forward to tackling a subject like this myself, and putting what I learned into practice. Just one suggestion for next time, easy on the super close ups. It’s much more comfortable to watch what you’re doing from a bit further back.
Realmente notable trabajo en acuarelas. Muy bien explicado paso a paso. Un control absoluto de la humedad y el color con las correspondientes reservas.
You can mask over already painted areas? And this won't remove the light wash? Holy cow that's a game changer. Thank you for the wonderful demonstration of your process. So very helpful in so many ways.
Thanks Annette, remember it will fade the pigment slightly but not completely, so take into account a slight reduction of colour/tonal value. I do have another "trick"concerning this technique that I will demonstrate on a future video !😁
Great work! Great teaching! I keep wondering....how is this paper mounted on this board? I don't see any tape around because the paint reaches the end of the paper. I also don't see any warping. What magic have you done? Lol!
Hi Alistair, I soak it for 10 mins in the bath, take it out and lay it on a firm board or gator board, lay a towel over the surface of the paper and pad it dry with your hands. Then use brown gum tape which has water soluble glue on one side, wet the glued side of the tape and firmly tape over all the edges of the paper, half the tape on the paper, half on the board, make sure it has thoroughly adhered with no bits of the tape showing air bumps or blisters. This has to be absolutely right as you now need to just lean the board and paper up against a wall or something and leave for about 8 hours or so. The paper will shrink in this time as it dries and it exerts quite a considerable force as it des so, I have had boards buckle and bow on me if the tape has lifted off on one side, hence the glueing on of the tape is crucial. Once dry, the paper has a beautiful tight surface to paint on. You cut the paper off the board once the painting is completed, leaving half the width of the tape still stuck to the paper. Hope this helps 😊

hmm.. sorry.. could you tell me what paper did he use.. i couldn't understand..
i guess it's saunders waterford.. but what texture.. looks like rough.. 300gr or even more
Fabulous work can I ask , how do you have your paper fixed to the board?

Hi Paul thank you for the very quick answer to my question, very well explained and thorough,
Hace bastante tiempo que sigo tu canal. Realmente me parece muy interesante, lo único que me da pena es que los videos no estén subtitulados. Gracias
Thank you Esmeralda 😊
