The Redid arrived tonight and so far it’s a beauty. Color brown but really a rich deep Mahoney. Gorgeous. Some sharp fret ends, action great, intonation slightly off but nothing to complain about.
Exceptional review as you were very detailed on the string alignment and pickup screws/strings alignment. This is attention to detail. Especially the string spacing in relation to the edges of the fingerboard. This is far and away the best, most detailed review on any guitar by anyone that I have come across. Well done!
You were adjusting the truss rod without checking for straightness of the neck first (with a notched straight edge for guitars)? Truss rod isn't for adjusting the action at the 12th fret. That would be bridge height.
I went to take my volume and tone knobs off last night and I ripped the stem of the pot out. I was able to put it back in without an issues, but it stopped me from taking the other knobs off for now.
Amazing guitar. Where did you buy it? Who are these people…Redid? And how much was it? I own a FF 338 and an IYV TSB 300. I dig the semi hollow bodies. ALWAYS-ALWAYS enjoy your videos! Thanks, Brother!🥁🎸👍
..the only thing id do is sand the lettering off the truss rod cover back down to black. I looks like a copy of a Hagstrom Viking, ..the same model guitar Tom Fogerty, Johns brother, played in rock group Credence Clearwater Revival.
I got the Redid hollow body and everything's perfect except, the neck is a bit thick for my old hands. I was wondering how the neck is on their semi's. I've got the grote semi and the neck is perfect for me, lol the only thing I don't like about it is the bouts are more pointed than rounded mouse ears but the thing plays great and I put a set of Wilkinson alnico gives in it and sounds real nice
Quick ? I have an electric Mustang Like IYV- and after watching this video I looked at the beige to see if all the strings were clearing the bridge and see that the 1st string does not clear it! It’s resting on the backside of the bridge. Not sure what to do? Any advice? PS just ordered this Redid in brown.
I heard on a Group Site that Redid is Grote. Can you please tell me what you know about these Redids? Are Grote and Redid the same? Did you buy this guitar yourself or was it provided to you for the review. Thanks! Your Channel is one of my favorite Channels.
Hi Dennis! It measures the same body size as a Grote semi-hollow body. I bought this myself. Prior to this purchase I had never heard of this brand. In the video is a pic of the Amazon page which includes the price. Hope this helps! Thanks!
@@guitarhowtos2148 lol-gotta tell you that I so much look forward to your presentations and innovated ideas/techniques. I mean what’s NOT to like? I am looking for a FF or maybe a Monoprice 335 knockoff to have available in Florida when I go down to visit. This Redid I think I’d buy but if I liked it as much as you do I’d be kicking myself that I’d only get my hands on it once or twice a year!😊. I dig that Aqua color too. Based on your review it looks as though the Redid may have better QC than virtually all the other Budget Brands. Or you got “lucky”! 😊 Many thanks for doing such a wonderful job on all of your videos-I have learned a lot. PS-have you heard of the Tuning of your guitar-each string a few “cents” flat? From the 1st string to the 6th=3,6,4,8,10,12. Flat. Saw this on someone’s Channel and WOW it made a HUGE difference. He said that this is how The Pro’s tune. Stay well, Brother!🥁🎸👍
@@dennismullin3052 Hi Dennis! Hmmm....interesting tuning. No, I have not heard this before. However, many guitar stores tune down 1/2 step. They may do this to perhaps relieve neck tension - or likely to make playing the guitar easier.
Boomer Guitar Geezer here that's been playing over 50 years. Bought a classic red Grote 335 before Christmas because the brown Redid RD-100 was sold out. The Grote needed a lot of work to make playable - frets heavily tarnished, fret sprout entire length of neck, intonation way off, truss rod adjustment needed, one tone pot loose, bridge p/u not square to neck, etc.. I've seen many "great-right-out-of-the-box" reviews of the Grote, so I think I just got one of the unlucky lemons. I sold the Grote. Ordered a brown RD-100 and it is MUCH better set up than the Grote, plus I prefer the rich, deep, wine color to the classic 335 red of the Grote. Did a little research and the Redid company has a factory in Shandong, China, where they manufacture the Redid, Grote, and Volgoa lines of guitars. The RD-100 is virtually identical to the Grote I had. It is truly amazing to me the quality of affordable guitars coming out of Asia today. Having bought a Les Paul reproduction when I first joined a band (MANY years ago...) and, finding it almost unplayable with a horrible neck and electronics that weren't grounded properly (persistent 60 hz hum), I finally gave up and bought a genuine SG Standard that I played for many years. This Redid is astounding for its playability and tone at a ridiculous price point. I did have a little worse experience with the tuners on my Redid, and ordered Jin-Ho locking tuners that were a drop in fix. I also discovered that the nut was loose, and the bridge was also loose. The bridge posts seem to be too small and there is quite a bit of room for them to move around. Never seen this before and I'll probably just install a little higher quality tune-o-matic. Other than that, the RD-100 is a phenomenal guitar when the price is considered.
@@gemedwin mine out of the box was almost perfect. I’m on vacation in Florida now so I don’t have it. Only had it in my hands for 3 days but I don’t think I’ll do anything g to it. So glad I bought the “Brown” too. A deep wine or a rich mahogany color really. If it hadn’t been for “Guitar How To’s” I would not have bought this Redid. Stay well Brother🥁🎸👍
You've probably already decided on something at this point, but I would say this, I wouldn't base my decision on the sound in this video. The audio is lacking. There are other videos with better sound quality. Also, keep in mind the price point. It shouldn't be too difficult to put better pickups in this. If it's got good bones, just swap out the electronics. In the end, you're still not in it for that much money. But that's just me and I have a strong need to tinker.
This guy buys a inexpensive budget guitar and finds the littlest things to complain about he's talking about changing the position of a switch and the knobs not lining up. This guy it's kind of annoying like Woody Allen
I got the green one a week ago and I noticed that the binding in the front is same as the back, and not layered like in the video. Also I noticed that the tailpiece posts aren't pushed all the way down, as if the string tension is pulling them out.

Hi Dennis! I hope your Redid is set up as well as mine! I play it a lot! Please let us know!
The IYV 300 was the other one you raved about. I bought that one not too long after your review of it.
Do you still own the IYV? I enjoy mine.
Hi Dennis! Yes. I do have the IYV.
@@guitarhowtos2148 just curious/ is there any reason why you do not do video Setups, etc., on Acoustic guitars? Thanks!
@@dennismullin3052 No particular reason, Dennis. Perhaps that is something to ponder. Thanks!
Where did you get the tool you used to tighten the three way switch?
That tool is as old as the hills. I don't know where it came from. I've had it since childhood.
