I did it- I finally bought a new guitar. Isn't it funny how you will spend 3 years looking at a certain style of guitar, thinking about getting it- and then, when you finally can buy something- you buy something totally different? I had been looking at either a P90 guitar- double P90s I mean- like a LP style- or a Yamaha RevStar. So- last night I bought an Ibanez Sp3- wtf? Where did that come from? I gotta stop drinking and shopping- they don't mix- I can't shred. I'm going to look stupid playing classic rock on a damn shredder style Super Strat. That said- I've always wanted one- they're the most irresponsible- and therefor fun- guitar you can buy. The second ppl see them they're like "Oh shit!" then you start playing and they're like "Oh, shit."

I think retailers will semi-invent (or over-scrutinize) to find something that can make an instrument a "demo", "factory second", or "customer return" in order to sell them as used, sometimes avoiding dealer agreements on minimum retail price. Use of condition will affect clickbait info like "Well Below Market Value", or show a value range for instruments in an incongruous category.

My parents are musicians and they started me young, and I never heard about letting an instrument acclimate to a room before taking it out of the case until guitarists started saying that. What do you think pro musicians do in the winter up north? You think they show up an hour early just to let their instruments warm up, and if they can’t get there early refuse to play? Violins and woodwind instruments would likely be the most susceptible. What about marching bands; never heard anyone having a problem with extreme temps, except maybe for clarinets falling apart when the cork shrinks

Is weight a concern? Ibanez generally makes lighter basses than Fender does, I’d say try both out at a music store and see which you like best. A P, or J style will cover almost everything music wise.

Re: Phil parting ways with Badlands: It's unusual for a startup business owner to leave just because he's 'done'. Especially with the success of each run to-date. I would wager that a LARGE percentage of those sales came from subs to this channel. There just has to be more to the story. Saying now that he's just interested in other things doesn't pass the sniff test - especially when Phil was all over all of the publicity just a few months ago. I respect his privacy, but he did induce a lot of people on this channel to order some very expensive guitars - and some of those people bought because of his association with the company. Because of that, I think he should be a bit more forthcoming. It's also unusual that the break seems so firm and final. You'd expect that even if Phil wanted to work on other stuff, he'd stay a co-founder on the site, an occasional advisor/consultant, etc. His complete erasure from the site and the way he talks about it suggests a more dramatic departure.
Yeah, it does seem a bit weird and also the fact that it's announced during a pre recorded episode, because the live comments would probably explode if it was live
BC Rich doesn´t care for the European market. The German distributor W-Music (warwick/framus) actually only has 5 older models in stock, 2 guitars and 3 basses. The stranger things guitar was never offered in Germany, neither other new models. A guy I know ordered a Gunslinger two years ago via Thomann. The order was canceled by Thomann after a year... My dream guitar is a BC Rich Mockingbird archtop supreme from the late 90s. Perhaps someday I get one. They are rare a.f. in Europe.
Guitars are so personel. I've had a couple of Emeralds and the quality is amazing, however, I find them, and all carbon fiber guitars, to be a bit "muddy" for lack of a better term. Maybe "dull" would be a better term. The Emerald is great once plugged in, but as a strictly acoiustic instrument they are not for me.
The business "Gearnuts" seem to be set up as a clearing house for returned Sweetwater gear. They are listing guitars on Reverb as "new" and priced identically to Sweetwater listings for new items. Although defects are disclosed either the are demoed or defective, or used. each of which category should logically impose a discount commensurate with condition. This suggests intentional deception whether it be on the part of Sweetwater or Gearnuts. If a serial numbers are available for the items, a correlation effort should be undertaken.
Steve is NOT the owner of Iconic guitars, Kevin Proctor is. BC Rich cancelled the order AFTER the contract was signed, which is breech of contract. While they shrank the order number to about half and then cancelled all, while they already signed a contract. So it is 100% not a counting your chickens before they hatch, and Iconic guitars is suing BC Rich. Those issues with BC Rich guitars is 100% on BC Rich, as the contract with BC Rich and Iconic were on the BC Rich Warlock Stranger Things edition, which are the ONLY guitars Iconic was to make for BC Rich.
This is very strange, did Iconic dropped the ball in terms of legal matters and contracts, how is this legally allowed to happen? If this happened with contracts in hand, then tons of other companies can be screwed the same way.
Maybe guitar building and business acumen don’t completely overlap. I’ve noticed that is the case in my industry (where skilled professionals seem unaware of best contractual practices).

Wow, just checked out the Emerald guitars. Those are something else, man. I want one!
??? Hi Phil, thinking of replacing my MIM strat body with a warmoth mahogany hard tail body... other than string ferrules and the hard tail bridge, is there anything else I need to consider?
Thank you!
You should have warmth do the initial finish prep on the body, unless you’ve got a lot of extra time on your hands.
Thank you! @@Bagledog5000
Warmoth stupid auto correct.
Why can't I see the live chat on my PC browser?
And they went to NAMM? Might already have paid up - def want to hear the discussion as I’d been looking at their guitars but couldn’t get past the price point
I love the look of Iconic Guitars. Wish I’d tried to buy one before all this!
Hey Mr. Phil. Do you still own your Rickenbacker 12 string?
Outside the guitar industry, there have been tens of thousands of layoffs at Big Tech firms. Some folks might have to delay purchases after their bonus, vacation, and severance runs out and unemployment benefits kick in.
What’s the best Alninco 5 pickup Phil?
Thanks for your take on the Iconic/Bc rich ordeal, seams both companies grossly over predicted the demand for expensive usa guitars, I believe bc riches import business with prosper
Eriko Hashimoto plays an Divided by 13 Amp and an Anniversary Hand-Wired Heritage Vox Amp.
??what is the best beginner/intermediate bass to buy, to play a wide variety of music?? Thanks
Is weight a concern? Ibanez generally makes lighter basses than Fender does, I’d say try both out at a music store and see which you like best. A P, or J style will cover almost everything music wise.
That was cool, you sneakily agreed with the guitologist's opinion on Gibson amps! Brad should never have criticised you all those years ago for that lame reason. I sense that he is sorry that he did
?? Phil, I don't remember you ever speaking about MIRC guitars. What can you tell us? Maybe in your next podcast. Thanks.
Hey Phil, I’m wondering if you can change pick up covers without removing the pick ups from the guitar
@@1-eye-willy thanks for the response. I know you have to unmount the pickups lol but I guess my question is can I remove the pickups but keep them wired to the pots and just protect the guitar while I desolder the covers? Then resolder them while they’re still wired? Make sense?
@@ScottMedinaX If the lead is long enough you definitely can. Sometimes the leads are zip tied together in the control cavity, so you might need to check that.
A guitar strings gauge question: What is the string gauge difference string to string school of thought?
Good show!
Idk why but I could listen to this stuff all day. And I just own 1 electric (a tele) and 1 classical guitar.
Really great episode....
They are rare a.f. in Europe.
My notification says starts in 62 minutes. Is it going to start an hour later today?
Guitars are so personel. I've had a couple of Emeralds and the quality is amazing, however, I find them, and all carbon fiber guitars, to be a bit "muddy" for lack of a better term. Maybe "dull" would be a better term. The Emerald is great once plugged in, but as a strictly acoiustic instrument they are not for me.
Hello from... NAMM 2024! See you at Kiesel Connect tomorrow @Philip McKnight 🤘😎🎸
Electra had different fx modules that went into the back of the guitar. In the 70s
Lol at the Moonpie Guitars Stinger! That customer will live in infamy.
I feel like so many things have changed since year 2000, can you speak to any of them in guitar world Phill?
The business "Gearnuts" seem to be set up as a clearing house for returned Sweetwater gear. They are listing guitars on Reverb as "new" and priced identically to Sweetwater listings for new items. Although defects are disclosed either the are demoed or defective, or used. each of which category should logically impose a discount commensurate with condition. This suggests intentional deception whether it be on the part of Sweetwater or Gearnuts. If a serial numbers are available for the items, a correlation effort should be undertaken.
One of my guitars that I sell for 6k probably cost me about 1500 in parts and materials. Plus a shit ton of my time and skills
Some one saying. Not watching as much due to adds. Become member or Patreon but also get TH-cam paid for and get no adds in any show you watch.
Kiesel? Not sure I'm with you on that one.
I've got a Chuck Schuldiner Stealth and Eric Rutan Ironbird. I love them and will never part with them.
badlands swirl finish when?
Only a Bernie Rico era BC Rich is worth having. RainSongs are now collectibles.
You can't go wrong with G&L guitars imo
This is very strange, did Iconic dropped the ball in terms of legal matters and contracts, how is this legally allowed to happen? If this happened with contracts in hand, then tons of other companies can be screwed the same way.
Maybe guitar building and business acumen don’t completely overlap. I’ve noticed that is the case in my industry (where skilled professionals seem unaware of best contractual practices).
@@RandallHayter Hi Randall, I was actually thinking about this last night, guitar builders are very passionate, artists that might ignore certain business issues that might have bad consequences later. It's definitely very unfortunate for all those people that no longer have a job :(
Phil why dont you have a cream guitar seems like your style
Its Kevin. Not Steve. Steves get blamed too often😂
Is it time for another who owns who video?
Weird coincidence, I just bought my 4th Parker P series guitar.
LOL, how did Moon Pie know my guitar sux?
?Do you think Fender will one day buy GIBSON???
I have a 1988 BC Rich Worlock, Great shape. Bought new USA Made. It is lefty, and when it sells, I would only expect to get what I paid for it. maybe a little more. OHSC included. Not for sale at the moment. I believe it has Dimarzio Pups
Survival of the fittest podcast
The whole guitar industry in bad shape. IMO of course. I need to sell some guitars and I cant seem to give em away. Bad times ahead Im afraid.
Reeks like bad business decisions on top of more bad business decisions with iconic. Where are the contracts?? Who signs a deal like he claims he got? Idk..doesn't seem to take any responsibility for hanging out his company on hopes and dreams
Carbon fiber. LOL.
❤
Who involves themselves with a brand that made cheesy metal guitars in the 80s and 90s? Self reliance is dead
This industry is full of gougers scammers and skeep skops. Find a small builder w soul. They email you, they share the love and build a great instrument
I have to say a hard case is way more protection than a gig bag I have never understood why people like gig bags
I can remember spending $1,500 on a guitar and they wouldn't throw in 120 hard shell case there's always Sweetwater
Philly ChersrStrak. 😀😀🙂
Have you had a feel of the CS fender Rory Gallagher guitar. As was tossing it over for the 3 yr late 50th gift to self as a card was it. Hard with no one to help give that yes or no as took 3 yrs of saving to get in range on vets pension?? Any help or comment be great Mate.. cheers. 🫡🪖🇦🇺
G’day Mate, just had look at the new deputy by victory. Wow such a great tone brilliant clean and pushed no problem. Off course Peter H (the Dane) is playing on it with interview. Loved the black mountain pedal, now that’s a volume pedal that sits right with my old busted up body Curtsy of service in Aust Army and the old green packs steel helmets and jumping out of planes not good ankles but roller yes. That’s a must. 🫡🪖🇦🇺
