ANYONE CAN DO: How to Put on a New Guitar String
This simple and easy-to-follow video shows you - with EXTREME CLOSEUPS - how to put on new guitar strings.
The challenge for most people is how to attach the string to the guitar. Tying knots is NOT recommended as taking them off later becomes difficult.
There's probably a dozen or so ways to attach a string to the tuning key post (the part with the eyelet). This video shows you the traditional way, used by many factories prior to shipment.
Good luck with this endeavor. Leave questions or comments in the comment section.
Thanks!

Do Most Distortion Pedals Sound the Same?
มุมมอง 818วันที่ผ่านมา
There are hundreds of distortion and overdrive pedals on the market. It can be daunting (and expensive!) to find THE one (or ones) that you really like. Of course, your pickups, your cables, the amp and speakers play a BIG role in how the end result sounds. Sometimes a pedal can sound awful through one set up and then glorious through another setup. The combinations are endless! Here are severa...

Can you use speakers that are made for car audio in your guitar cabinet? Each of these 4 speakers are played as clean, overdrive and distortion - side-by-side - so you can ACTUALLY HEAR the difference between all of them. I'm using a 1995 stock Strat (neck pickup only) through a Bugera 333XL amp. Mostly, I'm playing one chord quickly so you can hear each speaker in quick succession. I improvise...

Here is a side-by-side comparison of a guitar speaker cabinet with four 10" speakers and a cabinet with four 12" speakers. Price, looks and materials didn't matter. I had the 12" speakers as extras. I later purchased the least expensive 10" speakers that I could find. I used 1/4" plywood fastened onto pre-fab bookcases. If you were to use 2 amplifier heads - one for each cab - you could then tw...

Making My Own Speaker Cab

I had 4 speakers that I wasn't using. Two of them were 75-watt Celestion G12T and the others were a pair of 25-watt Celestion G12M. After looking and searching for speaker cabinets, I decided to make my own. I found a quad bookcase that seemed easy enough to make into a 4x12 cab - and I had extra plywood to make the front and back. Once the bookcase was assembled, I cut the plywood to size and ...

A 3-humbucker loaded pickguard: will it work?
มุมมอง 4Kปีที่แล้ว
Loaded pickguards like this are easy to install, but may need some additional attention. For those who like their guitar to be capable of producing many sounds, this concept is effective. Along with a kill switch, it has 3 humbuckers and each of them have a dedicated toggle switch so to split the corresponding pickup. A push/push pot is added to the lower tone pot to turn on and off the neck pi...

That is NOT how to string the left side and the use of a screwdriver assures damage. You are a 'how not to' dunce.😢
You can wrap up the screwdriver in plastic to prevent damage to stop tail piece
therres a pedal most people dont know about Metal End King the BIG one - look for it its usuly around 80$ and its insanly good and superversitile
you should dial each pedal to be close to unity (same volume) that would be a good way to judge the distortion without judging the volume boost
you dont have your cabinet miced - so we cant hear anything
No. It is you that sound the same, not the pedals or any equipment.
No all distortion is not the same...
Get you a Holy War pedal, you won't regret it 😎......
I made two comments and it says not comments yet... What am I chop liver... Lols
Thanks for the tip!
Rulers work better than popsicle sticks when it comes to measuring adjustments on your guitar 🤪
I don't think Dickie knew who the hell Steve Lukather was at the time .....Lukather was not prominently known I would presume in 1971 Great job BTW
Agreed. Lukather came into view with Boz Scaggs in the late 70's, I believe - well after the Allman Bros. He hit his stride in the 80's.
Wow! This is the best lesson on this solo! Thanks a lot!
Thanks!
It helps to tin (twist then add solder) to the wire prior to soldering it to the input
So does it work? I watched the Guitar Max video about this same loaded pickguard and that one didn't work!
Once it was fixed, it works. It did NOT work when delivered. I had someone fix it for me. All the wires had to be carefully traced and rewired where necessary.
You were adjusting the truss rod without checking for straightness of the neck first (with a notched straight edge for guitars)? Truss rod isn't for adjusting the action at the 12th fret. That would be bridge height.
Is it correct to achieve 0.3mm between first fret and underneath the string holding it down on the 3rd fret
It's a bit too high, I use to do 0.5 mm of gap for all strings, between first fret and under each string that simply rests on the nut, if you have this gap like your method, your strings could have 1mm of gap...
Here's how you do it completely wrong and stupid way to do this do not watch video it will make you dumb
You didn't explain why or a better way to do it 🤦♂
Doing it that way looks difficult and wrong. I think you should wind the string around the shaft before inserting it through the second time 😁 and no need for that amount of slack and string wrapping
A most excellent and skillful demonstration of this amp! I've been searching TH-cam for a demo like this. Just about everyone I'd come across showcase only the metal aspects of the 333XL... very annoying. Yes, we know it's a very capable metal amp, but it's like insisting a Vox AC30 can only be used to play jangly stuff. Not true as I've employed them for hard rock for years, and so have players far more capable than myself. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. You've gained a subscriber. Cheers to you! :)
Thank you for your kind words and well-written comment. So glad to read your feedback! 😀

I bought these blades amd was afraid to use them ...i finally did onna cheap acos
Very helpful, thank you. I wondered if I was doing this right and am highly allergic to dust. With a dust mask and microfiber cloth, this should be a great solution.
Thank you for your insightful comment! 😀
Thank you for your insightful comment! 😀
Graphite in the slot is a much better lubricant than Vaseline
Music nomad 'tune it' lubricant is a cheap little lubricant that works really well. I just bought it on Amazon I use graphite too but this stuff is a lot better and actually keeps you from needing to retune after string changes
No doubt graphite works. I just find it a bit messy. Graphite mixed into Vasoline might keep the graphite more contained.
I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the tip! 😀
Does this really work? I don't understand why. Hows the physics work?
There's less downward pressure over the bridge. 🤥
My les paul keep unwinding the high E string from the ball end in the little hole where it goes through on the stopbar. I can't tune it to pitch because the moment i do a bend the string just unwinds a little bit and goes out of tune. After that it just goes to hell. Can't be retuned without it slowly unwinding. Any help?
Thank you for your question. Ernie Ball makes reinforced strings where the wrap is, well, reinforced to help prevent the ball-end wrap from unwinding.
I use a screw driver with a rubber on end or electrical tape. Worked for the last 50 years :)
The string length is a factor in the ease of stretching it as you do when fretting a note. It this case string length is not the scale length but physical termination point unless string angle is very steep at the bridge or nut. I consider 15 degrees to be quite steep.
There is no tension change after a tune to pitch. Each string gauge requires a given tension for a given note. The angle of the string to the stop-tail affects the string Stretching.
Horizontally, yes. Vertically, no.
I have a LP Special that has a low cut on the nut slot for the high E string. Sitar sound. It did not do this for the first year and a half. I wedged a tiny piece of foil to bring it up, and then it is good. The rest of the nut is cut perfectly, and there's not a whole lot of nut indentation where the high E is on it. I've seen people use super glue and baking soda to rebuild low nut slots and then re-cut them. I'm wondering if anybody can give me some advice if that actually works or what I should do instead. I guess my main question is how strong will the baking powder/ superglue mixture will be. If so, how long will it hold if I take this route. Any advice is awesome!
I found that the baking soda and super glue hack works well.
@@guitarhowtos2148 If you have extra saddles, or old useless nuts, use a rasp or sand paper to make bone dust, and use that dust with the glue instead of baking soda.
100% worked for me. It intuitively makes sense but I get the skepticism because this is such a bro-science-y realm of guitar maintenance.
StewMac sells a screwdriver specifically for this purposes. With it, you can adjust the tailpiece without having to loose tension or worry about ruining the tailpiece. I've had mine for 15+ years. Worth the investment.
Perfect. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
How do you widen the slots for thicker gauge strings? If the depth is fine to begin with?
I use a stewmac file set and micrometer. Go slow follow the angle of the head stock. Better to take a bit off then retry when tuned to pitch. . If you go too low, time for a new nut or the super glue baking soda trick (not a good trick) Good luck
1:24 turn the bridge around and then it’ll play like butter😊
You are doing this wrong.
I got a hss from eBay three wires not soldered had to take it to a guitar tech works great now but I won’t be buying that from eBay anymore got one from reverb it works great hsh
Mine did not work either. I had to have someone else look at it and fix it.
You have yourself created a confusion in measuring and have not given the exact length which you knew very well....
I tried this and cut too deep
Why do you use a saw instead of a file? The hole should be round or the string will pinch inside the slot.
What kind of amp is that please?
They put 90 degree locking on my black with red binding 338 and the shafts are too short. I barely have two windings on the E string!!! grumble grumble. I dont want locking. Boo and Hoo!!! CHINA!!!
This doesn't look right at all . Wraps defeat the object of a Locking tuner. I this is right no way would I buy these. I know you mean well but that looks a gnarly mess.
Would be nice to know what tuners and roller bridge you used. Great video.
Thanks!!!
Wish I had seen this before I wasted money on the nearly useless (for guitars) welder's tip cleaner set. However, your method will make a flat bottomed slot. Shouldn't the slot be rounded?
One could easily round the slots if desired. I've done both and both work well for me. Hope this helps! 😊
Almost all "professional" guitar nut cutting files are absolute garbage anyway and a horrendous rip off. They don't cut rounded slots. The problem with the welder cleaner tips is that they are no good for the thinner string slots. However, for the E, A and D strings, the welder cleaners are superior to supposed professional files so you can use them for those slots. The only "proper" files that cut nicely rounded slots are those with diamond coating. Those will wear fast but they are even more expensive.
Here's one for the books....I bought a lp std in 96. Never really thought it sounded that great. Had a Luthier look at it. He said just raise bridge .....nothing changed. High e string always sounded bad. Finally after 20 some years.... I lessened the tension by raising the stop bar. Sounds better, bends better.....
Take the chassis cover off and you will find the channel status led that hasn't been fitted to the panel, also the drive channel uses a famous chip like the one in the tube screamer with a couple of leds I suggest someone solid state trickery going on
Your humbucker is back to front
A truss rod adjustment to change string height? What?! You didn't even guage the neck first.
The overdrive is solid-state on this amp
I have an Idea why not just use the right size screwdriver? One that the deivers blade fits perfectly and that is wide enough? Then you wouldn't have to use a awkward popsicle stick as a screwdriver. Lol Grandpa always said use the right tool for the right job.
