This video is literally "I wrote a riff while playing guitar" which is the time when most riffs are written. I am not trying to make fun of him, I am making fun of this trash video."I showed this riff to my bandmates" is not an interesting story. Sure, the viewer can make it interesting by saying it is a "valuable lesson about having the courage to open yourself up to others by sharing your creative ideas" , but that's also not the story he tells here or the point he makes.
@@tbd407same story from every musician in history. This dude ain’t special at all.
When Tom Morello cooks, he makes a 3 Michelin star 3 course meal. Absolute bop!
I love hearing how these legendary songs were created.

For many out there who would like to have an instant tuning without sacrificing too much tension or sloppy tension of the string and breaking them on your guitar, you can use the GR-55 Roland synthesizer pedal effect, you can tune every single string individually, it's just amazing at any time and reset it and give a different tunning chord playing by push off a button 😊
The tracking is chitty and it sounds chitty.
I’ve seen him play live twice….once in 2005 with Audioslave and once in 2023 with RATM at Madison Square Garden……I’m hella grateful for both of those shows!!
@@timsmith8506 wait. You are old enough to have seen him in 2005 AND you use the word "hella". Thats insane. Never saw that before.
IT'S SO INSANE HOW TALENTED HE IS AT THE GUITAR! 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻

The kid heard that riff together with Tom for the first time before anyone else 😂
It sounds as crispy as it did 20 years ago 😍
Hey it's that one guy from that rage on behalf of the machine band
Nobody loves Tom Morello more than Tom Morello.
now they rage for the machine
And a moment of brilliance just came to him at that moment. Brilliant. Man, I love drop D!
I love that he's playing a fkn tele.

This is how I test my drop d tuning every time. Such an easy satisfying riff
Rage For The Machine
Yawn
To be the cat that witnesses that riff being recorded on a tape recorder!
Tom Morello was such a legend to me growing up, too bad he went from Rage Against The Machine to Rage For The Machine.
"..and I just played.." one of the most iconic riffs of all time.
What I love about the tone about that riff and this song is it very much has a Stevie Ray vibe.
How the hell doesn't he start rocking when he plays that riff... i start bopping my head as soon as he started, such discipline?
I love how he has his guitar high up. So many people think that is a sign of amateur skill, but some of the greatest guitar players of all time do it. B.B. King is another great
Amateur indeed. Plays like shit.
His playing is a sign of amateur skill, not how high or low his strap is.
@@ev25zv How many times have you been the lead guitarist for an iconic rock band? How many times have you been named one of the best guitarists by Guitar World magazine or been featured on the cover?
@@diallo1347 I could be Steve Vai for all you know, so lol at the "whaddabout you" retort you'd expect from a dude just old enough to wipe chit on his face.
In reality, though, I've been a professional touring guitarist for international arena/stadium acts for over 20 years. Sorry, son, but I don't care about your popularity contests. I judge skill objectively based on skill.
@@ev25zv it doesn't matter who you are. Calling Tom Morello's guitar skills "amateur" is just because of how high up he wears his guitar is a sign of someone who doesn't have the knowledge or credibility to judge, AND your comment runs counter to decades of evidence.

Tom is a national treasure, and every time I am in Libertyville I can only imagine having walked past him or Adam Jones from TOOL who are both from there. He makes the guitar do things not even Hendrix could do.
That Riff is such a killer, maybe one of the best in history of rock.
I bet tom the only rock band guitarist that doesn't have back pain
Ended up being one of the most famous numbers of all time.
That whole record is all killer and no filler 💯
@adrianlee3497 hell yes. Was feeling low energy at work today and blasted this album and it lit a fire under my ass. Every song hits so hard... plus, it pretty much paced the way for every rap/rock band that came after...
Cool… makes me wanna go to spotify right away and play it
Rage for the machine!
Legend has it, Tom then continued the lesson with the kid, and Tom said “okay, bar chord 5th fret, 5 string, but mute the D string….”
….and the kid said “FUCK YOU I WONT DO WHAT YA TEEEELL ME!!”
….that was his last lesson, but man, what a contribution.
Fun fact: I was that young man. I remember telling Tom, “That will NEVER catch on.”
No you weren't
