Things you NEED to know about a club fitting

  • This video is for anyone wanting to learn more about club fittings!
    Having a GOOD club fitting is way more important than having A club fitting. I would strongly suggest to go somewhere that specializes and or does a lot of fittings.

    What's funny is I hit the ball so bad throughout the fitting then right after it, I started swinging it well.
    After the fitting today, I recorded myself doing the TrackMan Combine. Is that something ya'll are interested in seeing?
    Also, I know there wasn't much editing in this video, the main reason for that is because this was for educational purposes only!
    Hope ya'll enjoyed!

    That club fitter has a wealth of knowledge beyond my comprehension rly!
    Fantastic video on a CRUCIAL topic that almost nobody talks about on YT bc its not a flashy, view jumping draw.
    Blown away to hear the shaft type is 90 fricken % of the difference when deciding what clubs are right for you!
    Side note- 1 issue still remains the COST! Not of the fitter persay but the experience on a whole.
    Just getting fit for a set of a NEW set of gd-high end irons is gonna take u at or over a G!
    Whereas, a used set or clearance deal (tons out there if u do a mo. of everyday research) is bascially half that, give or take.

    8:58 it’s a fluke. doppler radar technology used in trackman is excellent at tracking a golf ball but not so good at tracking a club head.
    It is because a club head not only travels along the swing path and but also rotates around the shaft axis.
    Depending on where you define the reference point, you will see a different number (for example, toe side travels faster than heel side due to rotation).
    There’s a lot of computation involved inside trackman trying to compute this “one club head speed” number but you have to realize that there will, inherently, be a larger spread in the number.
    Long story short, When you see unusually high smash factor numbers like 1.53, 1.54, it is always because the club head speed is unusually low and not because the ball speed is unusually high.
    I have personally gotten 1.54 on terrible strikes too.

    • @kindasustho_

      Makes sense, but his swing is not unusually low in speed, so i think this comment is a fluke

    For driver heads they have a regulated maximum allowed amount of ball speed when hit at a designated club head speed. In other words- all the top driver heads have the same performance. The only difference is how they adjust to give you more flight changes and consistency

    Great video, you brought up several important points to the club fitting process. Be confident/comfortable with your swing before you get fitted, I would add don't make the fit session a swing lesson. Be patient, check your ego at the door, I walk in the door thinking I need stiff shafts, if a softer/lighter shaft will improve my game that's what I want. For me, the most important point is do your club fitter research not the company... Hopefully I will find someone knowledgeable and patient to fit me... I am learning that shaft technology is the new rocket science... Thanks for posting... And again Great Job young man!!!

    It's very simple what happens to achieve higher than 1.5 smash factor. The ball speed is always right, but the club speed is calculated. When the club speed is under-calculated, which happens for whatever reason, you get the higher smash factor as a result.

    More things to know if I may. My only club fitting to date a few years ago: the club fitter didn't inform me that the custom Mizuno MP-H4 irons (3-pw) I bought from him were not the same lofts as the Taylormade Burner II irons I was retiring. The difference was a full club (~4˚); for example, my new Mizuno 7i carried what my old TM 8i did (155 yds). Without knowing, I scored badly the next round I played as all my approach shots came up short. I did hit the range prior, but didn't notice this because there were no yardage indicators (my bad). Finally, after struggling for a week or two, someone clued me in on this anomaly. So it wasn't my swing, it was the difference from one club manufacturer to another.

    fav quick fix food: middle eastern food for the win. Regarding getting fit: it's not about "swinging great" because that's subjective, it's about turning up with something repeatable. And your own clubs, turn up with your own clubs. You're doing the fitter a disservice (and yourself) if you're not showing them what you're doing with what you've got. Lastly, warm up first, and warm up in front of the fitter so they can see what cold2hot looks like. Oh, and use your game balls, pointless smashing whatever they have lying around on the floor when you use OnCore exclusively...shout out to OnCore, their Elixr is the perfect ball

      A lot of the draw for most people looking to blow a few grand is the look of the clubs. Especially when the driver heads look like something Ferrari or Lamborghini designed.

  • @DYo19drk

    Smash factor is basically how elastic the collision is between the club and ball. If you hit the ball perfectly, independent of club speed, you can get a high smash factor.

    I had the worst golf fitting experience at golftec where the guy just grabbed a bunch of drivers off the rack and I'd hit 10 balls or so with each one until we 'found one that works', which included a driver that had a jumbo grip on it when I play undersized grips normally lol. Yeah, we eventually got to a driver that I put up pretty optimal numbers with, but the process of getting there was simply throwing darts and hoping to eventually hit a bullseye. There were no actual adjustments made based on the data and I probably could have saved myself 150 bucks if I had just walked into golftown and asked to try out drivers on the launch monitor.

    When i started golf many years ago, club fitting wasn’t a thing. Hence my dumb question. I play with early 90s era clubs. I assume fitting is only pertinent to me if I want to buy new modern clubs? I like my irons. I don’t want to get new shafts. Is it worthwhile to have the lofts and lies changed? I don’t care about gaining additional yardage. I just want fewer mishits. Thanks!

    • @sactownjoey
      @sactownjoey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the same thing. I think that 6 iron he was hitting was a 27 degree loft which is a typical 5 iron. I don't know if the software doing the launch angle/spin analysis accounts for that. Lovely swing, though. Very efficient.

    I just bought some used Apex Black Irons and the description is they are 2* flat adjusted by Callaway with the red forged CF16 logo on the hossle amd XP95 S300 shafts.. Where I live they do not have custom fitting available. I am a 18 handicap and usually have a slight fade to the right. Does 2* flat mean I will most likely get more to the right and more fade? The clubs will take 2 weeks to get to me but I was wondering if that is most likely what might happen to me with these clubs. I am still working on getting my inside out swing down bc I do have a slight tendency to come over the top a little. So is the 2* flat going to give me more problems?
    Thanks for any help!!

      ekphotography I believe so. I like my lie standard but I used to play with it 2* flat back in 2012-2014. I recently switched back to 2* flat after switching shafts from x100 120g to 7.0 pjx 130gs and I was slicing, pushing and couldn’t control my normal fade. I went back up to neutral lie and it erased all of my problems. Not really sure why but it just works. I’m a 5.7 handicap and I’ve never had a fitting once in my life and I’m 23 years old. And I’ve been golfing since 4th grade. I’ve always had hand me down clubs until college where I was swinging x stiff and had to buy my own so I just bought what I read with the best reviews on clubs and shaft. Wish you the best of luck!

    Hey guys I’m a high school golfer and I am about to get some new clubs. Do you have any recommendations? I think I am going to go to second swing to get a fitting.

    So would you recommend for new golfers to wait before getting fitted?

      Hi Hully ...As a former golf instructor, my blanket answer to your question would be "yes". That being said, everyone and their talent level when they pick up the game, can certainly vary. If it is someone who is brand new to the game, and is truly starting from scratch, their swing will likely change quite a bit over the next year (depending on how much time they apply to the game). In this case, investing in a couple lessons first, is much more beneficial.
      Once a player has grasped the basic fundamentals and are not looking for drastic changes in their swing itself, then that can be a great time to get fit (regardless of handicap).

      I would. Your swing might change to much. Put the money in lessons or practice over equipment in the beginning. Unless money isn't an issue then do both lol

    I want a new driver myself. When I go in to hit balls with the drivers that I want I feel like my swing is off. Since I don’t hit the ball dead straight every shot. I struggle to know when I can commit to a new club.

    • @kourt2469
      @kourt2469 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quuantix max smash factor is always 1.5 regardless of player. It’s a usga limit on how much a clubs face can rebound the golf ball.

    • @kourt2469
      @kourt2469 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @James Fondren yes and the ratio can never be higher than 1.5. If it is then you have an illegal driver. Obviously there is a slight tolerance so could technically be 1.52 but theoretically it shouldn't
