That was some damn fine acting from Mark Hamill once Vader dropped "I am your father" line. Luke knew the moment Vader said it that it was true, but it's so horrible he doesn't want to believe it. Hamill's facial expressions really drive all of that home. Luke indeed *knows* it to be true.
Absolutely true. And I love the almost blank deer in the headlights stare he gives Vader as he decides to let go and meet his fate falling down the shaft versus joining him. Wonderful acting!
The kid got some stick at the time, but I always thought he did well with a very difficult role, so central to the first trilogy. Unconvincing backstory (possibly intentionally), clunky lines, weird relationship with Leia, strange mixture of all-knowing superhero and naive teen. Hamill found it difficult to get work afterwards, he was too famous. He didn't get "Amadeus" because Milos Forman didn't want Luke Skywalker playing Mozart.
The fact why it felt real, because Vader is Luke father idea were just added RIGHT before the moment films,Mark was believe James(Vader Voice) was pranking him
Dylan Barrino the acting not being good, the dumb plot, the boring political stuff and also that when I see yoda with a lightsaber it makes me die a little inside. But the memes make up for everything.
All this time, i used to remember vader said “no, i am your father” in his usual dark, menacing and intimidating voice.. but i just recently rewatched this movie again, and i realized that the way he said “no, i am your fater”, it sounds very soft and gentle like he actually really is loves and cares for his son, and also sounded really sad and full of regret..
The reason for that is ‘No, I am your father’ sound odd without the context given by the rest of the dialogue as Vader is saying it a response to what Luke said. ‘Luke, I am your father’ makes more sense on its own so our brains naturally remember it like that
"You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker... I did." After hearing this, Obi-Wan was right and technically doesn't make Alec saying "Darth Vader killed your father" a false statement. Crazy.
+Mr. Scratch Look at vaders mask and action.. you can picture if you can see his face you'll notice that vader is really doing the derp face under his mask..

I’m sorry but it’s kind of hilarious how when Luke falls down Vader’s outstretched hand just sort of follows him disappointedly and he looks so done even though his mask has no expression
First Anakin loses his mother. Then Anakin loses his pseudo father figure of all of a week. Then he loses his apprentice and feels betrayed by her and the Jedi order. Then he feels betrayed by and loses both his master, and his wife... He blames so many for betraying him. Then he's right there, meeting his son in earnest, going easy on him, offering him the galaxy. And his son decides to flee, or perhaps jump to his death, rather than join him. Something has to finally hit home inside that mask that maybe, JUST maybe, it wasn't everyone else that betrayed Anakin Skywalker. Maybe something was wrong with Anakin from the start.

Vader learning the family he tried so hard to save with Padme was lost because of himself, and Luke's mental image of his father as a heroic jedi betrayed by the ultimate evil being shattered when he learns that the monster he's fought for so long actually IS his father. Most iconic scene in movie history

Rest In Peace James Earl Jones, you had an absolutely iconic voice that will never be replicated
Original Vader was suppose to say "No Obi Wan Killed your father" but they kept it in secret only the director, editor, Mark Hamill, and James Earl Jones knew about it, nobody else in the cast knew so even in the premier the cast itself was left shocked. Obi wan: Well, Palpatine was striking “the senate” which is himself with lightning before falling down a hole and (if rise of skywalker isn’t canon) dying, so what I told you was true, from a certain point of view.
I completely agree. Not enough people point that out. The moment you’re talking about, 1:12, he shows so many emotions at once
The fact why it felt real, because Vader is Luke father idea were just added RIGHT before the moment films,Mark was believe James(Vader Voice) was pranking him
@@martinhaigh8345 So that's why he turned to voice acting. Makes sense, and we got one of the best Joker performances out of it.

One of, if not the single most recognizable voice in film history. Even people that have never seen Star Wars know this voice. Rest easy.
Many people think vader says: "Luke, i am your father."
But he acutally says:
"No, I am your father."
The more ya know.
The reason for that is ‘No, I am your father’ sound odd without the context given by the rest of the dialogue as Vader is saying it a response to what Luke said. ‘Luke, I am your father’ makes more sense on its own so our brains naturally remember it like that
Mandela effect maybe
I hear people say to me "Luke I am your father" all the time and it gets me

I like how Vader just looks down there and tiredly watches Luke fall, after all that dialogue, he just stares down his son falling for 3 minutes.
"Bruh"
