'Trounced by a PM who lost to a lettuce': Starmer attacks Sunak at first PMQs

  • Keir Starmer launched an attack on Rishi Sunak at PMQs on Wednesday, pointing out the new prime minister lost the initial Tory leadership race to Liz Truss 'who herself got beaten by a lettuce'.
Subscribe to Guardian News on TH-cam ► bit.ly/guardian...
The Labour leader took advantage of Sunak's first prime minister's questions to confront him on his wealth, on non-dom statuses and on a leaked video that emerged in the summer of Sunak in Tunbridge Wells saying he diverted public money from 'deprived urban areas'. Sunak responded by saying Starmer 'rarely leaves north London', adding that 'if he does, he will know that there are deprived areas in our rural communities, in our coastal communities, and across the south'.

As an outside observer(Australian), Sunak definitely avoided questions but replied in a confident and animated way. It was all waffle, but it was direct and distracting waffle which made his replies have impact. 100% more effective than Truss but wouldn't hold up to scrutiny if QT allowed it. Interesting how different he behaved verses his address at Downing Street where he sounded like a computer. It seems he is very skilled in deflection which will be disastrous for the UK unless Starmer can pin him down effectively.

Its important to really focus on the content of what is being said and not how it is being said. I know a lot of supporters of Sunak are claiming that his critics are racist which I think is just vapid identify politics; I’d equally hate to have an old white woman, a young black man or whatever combination of identities if they were born into wealth and have no understanding of the average person’s life especially during a living costs crisis.

Yeah! There may be some others too... But one thing is clear, time duration, whether it's 44 days or 2yrs, is not a measuring factor to measure the level of bankruptcy that the country has gone through... If funding 30 billion to NHS during critical times is equivalent to slashing corporate taxes by more than 45% for the country's elite or to giving freebies (Energy bill) without proper funding and plan, then it's, I don't know, probably stupidity. 🤔🤔

So it seems that everyone has a short term memory. It is a fact that Rishi Rich was the chancellor for 3 years, the engineer and architect of the economy crisis we are facing now. This guy big achievement was to introduce the furlough scheme and tax free on meals which he had to borrow money to fund theses schemes. Most people knew he would create a big hole in the budget and now we are seeing the consequences of such a populist scheme just to pave the way to become PM. Of course the conservatives are blaming Truss for this mess because she didn't get elected by MPs but it was chosen by the conservative members.
