I love that Bo here isn’t targeting Christians or faith, but the hypocrisy he sees in the church and by the people who take it all for granted. And while everything he says is meant to poke at you and possibly upset you, he only does that because he wants you to think about why it makes you feel that way. That’s the genius of Bo.
Personally I enjoy your reactions. I’m not a Christian, I’m an atheist. But I have no problems with people’s faith. I like hearing other perspectives. You genuinely see Bo’s music for what it is and I appreciate that. Keep up the good work!

    • @Time_Is_Left

Some of the bars in this track pretty overtly criticize xians, faith, and the god character. I agree tho, I like his reactions to :)
This is from that cliche “angry atheist phase”, he’s since talked about still being atheist, but less militantly so as he’s matured.
For the sake of sharing perspectives, I would like to offer one that I personally don’t see represented very often. Try and guess why lol. Respectfully, I do have a problem with theism. I can never again see it as some neutral, live and let live, vapid culture war platitude. I see it as immoral and as doing net active harm.
I share this not to necessarily persuade, and def not to argue or be combative (not here and now, cus I absolutely do those things sometimes lol), I say it because 1, most people only consider the positive and neutral positions; and 2, to tell anyone bored enough to read this many words that the anti- theistic position is not always just coming from a place of bitterness, anger, or religious trauma (tho there is a LOT of that; and understandably so), but can also come from a place of reason and empathy.
      Sorry so many words lol

@@Time_Is_Left I appreciate your words! As this is TH-cam and not a good place for dialog, I’ll say that I can see what you’re saying (whether or not I agree) and I think you’re right in that Bo has matured as a person, and he has found more peace with things he disagrees with. But that’s also one of the benefits of adulthood over childhood, as we all temper some in the face of things we are opposed to. At least that’s been my experience.

lol why wouldnt the literal words be the morals meant to be embodied? it seems like they just change it to fit whats accepted in the current culture. notice how fast they changed their stance being gay once being anti gay was a reason to throw something in the trash. and countries where being gay still isnt accepted? what a surprise that the churches are all anti gay in those locations. idk from the outside it seems like the obvious scam in the world. just pick morals that sound good to you and live by them. thats what christians do anyway since they ignore the ones they dont like. just stop ascribing your personal preferences to god when your personal beliefs are clearly incongruent with every holy text your religion provides.

The priests in the Vatican don’t even believe most the crap in the Bible they tell you most of it is not to be taken literally they are just moral lessons… which I believe we have surpassed the Bible’s morality a long time ago. If moral is committing genocide stoning kids to death for stealing having slaves having kids sleep with their father having a man almost kill his child to prove his devotion to you then saying last minute ohhh no you don’t have to kill him I was just fkn with you! Killing a man’s family and crops to prove his devotion then giving him an entire new family like you can just replace people you loved with new ones! Yeah great god not buying this bs and if it were all true I wouldn’t worship this being how anyone can think god is good blows my fkn mind!! It’s all man made just like everything around us if there were a supreme being im sure it’s not staying up nights too make sure you’re not master bating!! Haa just ridiculous it sounds ridiculous. Say it out loud an all powerful supreme being is watching to make sure almost 8 billion people are not indulging in self pleasures!! Lol..

@@kokemon84 the books were written and rewritten by humans to suit their vision of how things should be so many times that he's better off doing that than not. when Bo mentioned "When God, in verse 45 said that slaves are okay to buy," he was being literal, that'd be Leviticus 25:45. really, living by the beliefs that christianity is meant to embody at its best is a much better approach than living by the exact words of a book.

I think you could say that fear doesn’t really work with children, because the children it does work with aren’t the ones that actually need help. Your kids respond to fear because they already have a base of knowledge and a loving family. Fear hasn’t been the dominant force in their life, so it’s judicious use can have some desired effect in the short term. As a long term motivator, it is not so great and often counterproductive

I know this video is older, but I just ran across your videos and have been watching...and am a HUGE Bo fan. I just wanted to say that Bo is SO much more then a comedian...and if you need any evidence of that - pull up a close up or the special on Netflix (words, words, words) - those tablets behind him, that look like orange words - that's every single word, verbatim that he says and sings during this special. He never looks at them - and even some of the things that seem like "natural" or "mistakes" are on the tablets.
It's a societal commentary on the fact that nothing about the entertainment industry is real. It's mind blowing if you think about it too long.

The quote you wanted may have been "Remember: the sinner who is sorry for his sins is closer to god than the just man who boasts of his good works"--Attributed to St. Padre Pio. The second quote is probably not this quote, but the sentiment may be related: "Faith is illuminative, not operative; it does not force obedience, though it increases responsibility; it heightens guilt, but it does not prevent sin. The will is the source of action."--Attributed to John Henry Newman.

Religion has been dicey? Yeah, a bit. But if they didn't know any better, what could they do?
But if they really just didn't know better, then what is your BOOK for? Shouldn't the secret knowledge straight from God be more objectively correct? I'd certainly expect it to be less vague?!? It seems like every order and opinion in every religious text can be explained by looking at the men who wrote and curated them as well as the times in which they lived. That doesn't make sense if ANY of them were written by an all loving, all knowing being. All loving, so they would want to communicate clearly (discussions of eternal afterlife is no time to come across as coy...). All knowing means he knows EXACTLY the situation required to make me understand, and all powerful means he has the ability to do that thing. He just chooses not to. Any explanation you can come up with to explain why we all don't have an always-on, two-way connection with the creator only puts an arbitrary limit on one or more of the three fundamental things your god IS (all good, all powerful, and all knowing) in order to explain his absence. Occam's Razor suggests maybe he just doesn't exist? At least not in the form religion insists upon. In the complete lack of evidence, I believe we are being lied to by ordinary people. If I'm wrong, may God (or Jesus or Allah or Buddha or whoever claimes responsibility for this mess) strike me down.
Still nothing? Weird, I've said that a bunch, yet here I am... Do you think he doesn't know I said it? Is he not powerful enough to stop me? Does he not love me enough to show me I'm wrong? Does he not love the people reading this and getting angry at me enough to punish me on their behalf?
    Weird.

I think that if you keep exposing yourself to this and start wondering if it’s true. Then read the Bible. All the parts that they don’t favorite preaching about, you might find that you took the red pill into a hole that will really question everything about you beliefs, morality, truth, etc. That you may not like❤️

Ah yes Peter 2:18. Yeah I could go on about how much I dislike the translation of this. The word is not δοῦλοι = slaves, but οἰκέται = household servants, domestics, but even so, yeah important to read anything "holy" in its fulness and not skip context and take pieces out of context. Because this sort of servitude was common at the time (wrong, but common), seems like the message was more about being patient and effective as with time hopefully one would be delivered, similar to how Joseph in Egypt was a slave who got himself out of that situation by being exemplarary.

The takeaway should never be, "the word is more accurately translated as 'servant'..."
The takeaway should be that Jesus *never* said anything to contradict or correct the inherent immorality and cruelty found in the Pentateuch. He never once said it was wrong to own people as property, whether you called them slave or servant or whatever.

Servant slave doesn't matter both are equally as wrong if you don't agree you don't agree you are a piece of s*** so is anyone else who thinks it's ever OK to own anyone would you be my slave under the rules of The Bible no no possible way

@@schwann145 is it possible that a human wrote the words of an omnipotent being without truly understanding the message being delivered or that our interpretations of the meaning is inaccurate because we are merely humans that don’t have the ability to comprehend what an almighty being was providing to us as our brains maybe seen more like that of an ostrich to an omnipotent being? I can’t debate religious texts as I have questioned how many pastors have explained away verses that seem straightforward. It appears more like homosexuality was written as bad because the people in that time needed more humans and there was possibly fear of extinction if it was allowed. People died from eating pork as viruses in the animal couldn’t be cooked off and it was not cooked properly. So verses saying not to eat them were written in order to help people but was the interpretation correct? Mary Magdalene wrote a book that wasn’t included in the Bible from my understanding. Why wasn’t that included? Maybe it’s in the Vatican or maybe it’s a rumor. Debating religion is impossible for me but I think it’s easy to live by being kind to others and worrying about your own internal shortcomings and not pushing your views on others. Then everyone looks internally on how they can help society and not judging actions of others.

@FatherDingo for me yeah. No proof. Just "faith." But because my possible belief bias had led me to a way of life I personally enjoy, all good. Have no interest in changing anyone's mind into it though. If one's reliance on scientific evidence ultimately leads that person to be more tolerant, charitable, and their best, boom, that's a win too.

What was so hysterical to you about the bible condoning slave ownership? I had to turn it off at that point. I can see nodding along but to find it 'throw my head back and laugh' was disturbing.

    • @matthewzimmerman5064

Does the interpretation of an omnipotent being written by man and interpreted by other humans provide the accurate message the omnipotent being was trying to deliver? I’m not going to speak for why he laughed but I laughed because that interpretation is common and the way he delivered the message as slavery being explained away and then saying god was just kidding when the message went on was humorous because I disagree with a lot of how some pastors explain interpretations away and it doesn’t make sense. Nobody thinks owning anyone is funny but I find humor in clever word play and intelligent points. Also Sebs laughs when he is nervous or impressed. What some early Omegle bars he does of Hmack where he laughs but explains to his audience he does that when he is amazed by talent. Don’t be offended bro, if you have ever watch Sebs you know he is a genuinely good person that doesn’t take sensitive topics seriously and is willing to laugh at jokes against his own feelings because he is secure in his convictions and his moral compass and realizes the person delivering the message is a comic and it’s not meant to be taken differently
