      And having lower prices for bracelets: unfortunately they are too high for the average price on etsy

      Exactly the problem I've been having. Most sellers sell shirts at a pretty cheap price (I use Etsy so I'm basing it off that), but if you use Printful, typically it's around $22-$25 for a decent profit after fees, etc.

      It just shows how much money others (platforms, companies) gonna make off of your work + don't forget about FB/IG ads and other ways to promote your product, it's a shit ton of money going into someone else's pocket

    • @PrintfulCustomPrinting
      @PrintfulCustomPrinting  4 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Hey John and Rishi! It's true, competing with other sellers on marketplaces like Etsy and Amazon can be tough. Creating products on demand will always be more expensive than in bulk, which may be why some of the other stores are selling at such low prices. My advice would be to make your brand the selling point - create designs that are not available anywhere else and you won't have to worry about the competition.
      Finding a passionate niche audience can be helpful as well. You can check out our customer testimonial on that: th-cam.com/video/wfr6oU2It30/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!

      @@TheZombiecowmeat But that is actually one of the first things you should have done while doing your business plan. It doesn't make sense to open a store with a theme or designs you can get anywhere else. If you don't have a logical and good business plan with a detailled target audience and just have an online shop for the sake of having an online shop, I feel like that's about to fail anyway.

    I would like Printful to lower their price a bit or acquire better materials especially for fashion and household items. Several of these products end up being overpriced after adding all the expenses. Or at least improve your QC & shipping condition, for an example, my poster arrived with dents in them. I would not want my customers to receive them in such a condition.

    Ok so I’m here to say. That printful is NOT the place to go if you’re a new or small business. It’s like you make little to no profit! We have a mug that’s $12.50 and once printful charges us $15.90 we only make a $4-$5 profit. We are literally spending way more than we’re making. The only good advice I got from this video is to make your products worth a higher price. So if I make our coffee mugs 20.00 with a better design, then our customers wouldn’t mind paying that much? None of this is certainty that we will make a decent profit. I’m very disappointed because I understand the work Printful contributes. But why not make it worth the buyers/customers time as well?. I just don’t see anyone buying a mug for $20 . Realistically we are gaining NOTHING from using printful. I’m sorry

    You say 1 hour of designing costs $45? As a graphic and web designer, I design all my creations with Adobe PSD and Adobe Illustrator. I come up with them myself, they are unique and I don't use any templates. For one good and high-quality design, sometimes I need up to 2 hours, which means that in the beginning, only my work could cost $90, without other costs. And then I'm supposed to sell someone a t-shirt for $26? So, I'm only interested in getting paid for my work. According to you, and I see most sites that work POD, the creator must be an accountant and a PR and marketing expert too. I'm not in that and this is definitely not for me.

You are suppouse to buy from them at a retailer price what I would asumme they buy at wholesome price, add to that 5 to 10 dollars on shipping, plus any marketing money for a product that has no branding, no refund and no accountability.

What I want to understand is how it works, for example, when I started adding products from Printful I put in the price I would change my customers. Since them I decided that I would add a higher price of about 30%, so I could discount the product. Now I am trying to understand what price Printful work off, the price I have in Printful or the price I receive from the customers. What price should I put in Printful? How do discounts come into this. Do I manual chance my prices once the items arrives in my Shopify store? Thanks, I have been looking for this answer for a week and grateful appreciate your reply. It may be difficult for print-on-demand stores to compete with retail stores or marketplaces like Amazon in pricing and speed - that's why you need to make your brand the selling point. People want to feel special! Create designs that are not available anywhere else and you won't have to worry about the competition. Finding a passionate niche audience can be helpful as well. Check out our customer testimonial on that: th-cam.com/video/wfr6oU2It30/w-d-xo.html

      @@PrintfulCustomPrinting Yep, you're right. If order in bulk, I can get my product for $7-$8 EXW (already have experience with manufacturing in China). Because of that, Printful seems more as a "proof of concept" partner, to test the ideas and marketing cost. As the cost of FB ads increased and, I afraid, the 20-30% margin won't be enough to sustain with Printful as a partner. Hello. I am a bit confused regarding:
    1). pricing my products when using live rates. Since I don’t know yet from which location my customers will be ordering from (I am targeting a worldwide audience) I am not sure what shopping will be and subsequently, what the tax will be on the shipping either so I can include it in my costing.
    So my first question is: how do I price my products for varied locations on Shopify using live rates?
    2). The example in the video involved only one shirt. Let’s say if I want to offer free shipping (with live rates enabled) and the customer orders two or more products.
    Because the additional shipping cost for the subsequent products are not as high, how do I price my product so it reflects the lesser additional shipping cost for the subsequent products in the customer’s order?
    Thanks in advance. I really love the Printful team and professionalism by the way.
    I’ve had a lot of back an forths over email with the Printful support team but I dont seem to be going anywhere with my query.

    • @PrintfulCustomPrinting
      @PrintfulCustomPrinting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey!
      1) The price that your customers would be paying for shipping would match the price that you'd be paying for shipping if you're using live rates.
      2) It would be suggested to check the carriers' prices to determine approximately how much would be charged and then adding the amount to the product price to not lose any money.
      It might be better to hop on a live chat with one of our agents to discuss everything in detail 😊

    Overall, Printful products/printing is fine, but what I really urge to change is the shipping rate/model, rather than putting that responsibility on your customers, us. Charging us shipping for single product plus additional shipping for EACH item, is such a pain, and so hard to do business on the retail side. It makes it near impossible to offer customers flat rate shipping or free shipping, especially for hoodies and backpacks. As a retail customer, the live shipping rates are also such a turn off, tbh.
    Charging customers premium price for my design is acceptable, but even with premium pricing AND shipping, I'm basically earning a mere 20%, and that isn't factoring my cost for Shopify, marketing, etc.
    As a brand, I will not compromise on quality for a premium price, meaning at the least the material has got to be on par. So for example, Stanley/Stella Organic Hoodie, including my sleeve designs (hence the premium price), Printful charges me $49 USD. I am selling that for $66. Unbeknownst to me, the automatic shipping is set at flat rate for my customer @ $7.99, but I am charged $15.49 for an order for 4 hoodies. For this particular order, the customer pays $271.99. I am charged $211.49!
    I check and adjust this to live shipping rates. Either way, my margins are at 20-30%. And this ends up being basically 0, as I need to build/maintain a BRAND and audience for me to charge such premium prices. Thus accounting for design cost, labour cost, hosting website & domain, marketing (video editing, photography, social media posts, etc), transaction fees etc. There is no profit made. Even with more orders, it basically at the most is a breakeven for the energy invested.
    Beyond mere passion, or hobby, it's not possible to sustain a business this way. Which means Printful is not for business building, investment, growth, or revenue, its fan service. Just creating a product for your fans/audience at a particular time. It becomes hard to sustain with the amount of other things the business would need to focus on to sustain the audience and interaction. It's definitely not a business to earn any means of living.
    Or are there other options I'm missing? Am I expected to charge $100 for a hoodie?
    Cheers.
