Hi everybody. Last night I was admitted to the hospital with an appendicitis! Surgery was successful 🙏 but I am not well enough to answer most peoples questions this week, sorry! My next video may also be delayed too 🙏
I'm really glad you mentioned Etsy - I've been looking into it as a place to sell stationery/etc through dropshipping because so many other people seem to be doing the same thing. Turns out they have a huge loophole where, if you categorize your items as a "supply", you can resell commercial items! Obviously this doesn't work for the scenario you discussed, but that's how so many people are getting around the handmade restriction and reselling items from Aliexpress, etc.
Another awesome video Sarah! I love the legality short cut statement which we get a log on the internet. Some people think that when an article or e-book is posted on the internet, it automatically becomes public domain which it does not, in fact, according to US Copyright law, it automatically becomes copyright protected.
So... how many points did you win? (And yes, there are additional reasons why you might not sell those designs... but to win the points, you had to guess the ones in the video!)
8:27 - *"My guess is that this is the one that people will probably be the most likely to get right"* What? Fortnite? I would never have guessed that. In fact, it SCREAMS of *Jurassic Park.* I must be 15-20 years older than this crowd. :)
Very helpful! I thought this would be a video on what products don't sell. Could you do a video on that? Like obviously t-shirts and mugs sell but what doesn't sell well for POD? Blankets? Photo frames?
Have my designs up for 2 weeks and only 3 sales...some ppl are luckier than others, sigh! It’s amazing how you speak as though you’ve had 20 yrs of experience! It’s awesome
Etsy doesn't seem to police the images very closely on trademark or copyright rules. I'm sure, eventually, some get stopped but I see TONS as I purchase digital prints to make repurposed books and run across a lot of such images.
I see soooooo many popular products “inspired” by popular trademarked characters like the office or sailor moon and I thought that wasn’t allowed but 🤷🏻♀️
On putting a black background on a black shirt, if you add a white stroke in photoshop to the black background it separates the colors and looks cleaner
Brilliant video! I have a question about the trademark thing. What happens if you create something with a saying that is not currently trademarked but later on becomes trademarked? Will that company come sue you or will they look up the uploaded time stamp of your product and their purchase of a trademark? Thanks
I am terrible at the game but love how fun you make learning. I have been watching for a long time and sincerely appreciate all of your time, efforts and hard work. I wish you and yours the very best of everything my friend. :) (I think I got like 5 points ) :-/
10:46 Wholesale Ted, your premonition was spot-on. Anime fans, beware. Anime companies are cracking down on stores, sites, merch, etc. that sell their art without permission.
You CAN make a tshirt with a Transparent background to put on a black shirt,as was the case of that last example. I am doing this with one of my own products.
Hi Sarah. I have a question and I will be happy if you answer me. The question is: How do I make sure, that I have rights to resell and to use images from Shutterstock for commercial products? I mean to use images for print-on-demand t-shirts.
If i create a shirt on printify and it starts selling well if someone steals my idea or design to profit will I be able to stop them or do i have to copyright and trademark my idea first
A lot of great info on your channel for print on demand. I used to dropship but stopped due to sales slowing to nothing on my eBay but this has me thinking of a lot of new ideas to get back in.
You can have the black/white background on a black shirt if it has a border outline around it with a different color, just not without the border outline on a different colour and aslong as the colour of the border outline isn't the same as the shirt because that would apply to the same design principle as the black background being on a black shirt.
Sarah, while I find your videos VERY INFORMATIVE.. I've got a question pertaining to the Paris Hilton "That's Hot" Hallmark Card.. Your video makes sense.. Hallmark was sued based on the Trademark "That's Hot".. and, yeah.. Not her image? I mean, the image was really not altered; it was chopped out in Photoshop, and put onto the card.. Hallmark being a HUGE, and very-well-known company, I would think that they especially, would know most about copyrighting, and fair-usage.. I've been digging, digging, and digging on what's allowed, and what's not.. I'll give you my example of artwork I've been doing.. I'm taking photos of older celebrities, such as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Judy Garland, and even musicians (thus far).. I'm editing them artistically into halftone images.. I'm making stencils with my Cricut, and slapping them in a frame with a colored background.. You can see an example here: www.dropbox.com/s/vsvrk1fkvabbb1i/MM.jpg?dl=0 Wrapping up this comment: is this fair use? Could I profit off of hand-made images like this, obviously using Marilyn Monroe's likeness? Can I use her name in Tags and Titles? Does it differ from Living or Deceased human beings.. I totally understand all of the rest of your video; the Loot Llama, etc.. Even there, EPIC definitely has ALOT copyrighting going on.. But a human being? A deceased human being?? Please Elaborate on this if you could please.. I've been trying to wrap my head around it for weeks. :)
That last point doesn’t make sense. You would just remove the black from the black background. A simple task that takes seconds. If you don’t know how to remove a background around a simple logo, or use auto trace to vectorize, then print on demand isn’t for you.
Assume you create 1000 POD products with non-trademarked phrases. Afterwards, it is possible that someone will come along and trademark a few of your phrases. 1) Would you have to delist your product if the new trademark owner contacts you a year after you launched your product and says "we have a trademark on this phrase, delete your listing now"? 2) If so, would we have to keep watch on our POD phrases and do checks on them periodically to see if someone eventually trademarks them?
I've done fan art for Comic Cons in the past and most companies like Marvel, DC etc. wink their eye at Fan art being sold at the Cons for at least a couple of reasons. One it's good P.R. (Public Relations). People at the Cons want to purchase some form of artwork of their favorite movie hero as a memento and/or many,as well, take the Fan art to be signed by the respective actor. Two the art helps leverage and promote the movie star guests that attend the Cons with quite a variety of art styles. That being said, Marvel, DC etc. are NOT ok with us selling said fan art from our websites or print on demand. If they catch you, you'll get smacked down. They're ok with it at the Cons but not as ok with it outside of that, unless of course you've got a license agreement with them.
Great video. So many people don't understand the fundamentals of copyright, licensing, trade marks and royalties. I scored 145 but maybe my maths is not that good.
@@simongreaves210 Oh god lmao ty for bringing this back into my notifications, im not 13 but ill take it as a compliment that i look young. Damn I've come along with in dropshipping from a year ago. Good luck to u my friend if ur just starting out with this video LOL

I just started my dropship shop on shopify, and now I see the same trending item that I'm selling on Ebay for AliExpress prices :( so everyone is buying the product there, what do I do now?
15:13 @WholesaleTed when i try to put designs with a transparent background on redbubble it automatically gets a black baground. Do you know how to fix? if so, just reply pls thanks!
So should you trademark phrases you come up with? If you buy artwork from fivver do they still own it or do I being I bought it? When you buy the artwork should you give them the copy too or keep that and do it yourself?
You can trademark any phrase you like as long as it passes the guidelines and other people don’t file LOPs against your claim. A designer from Fiverr owns the design they make for you and license it to you for your use, unless you both explicitly agree that you own all rights to it. That’s for anything, photographers, designers, etc. they own everything and just license it to their clients.

Your little count-down dance is adorable!
Not gonna lie. Watched most of this just for the adorable dances during the timers, lol
Another awesome video from The Dropshipping Queen! Good to see you again Sarah, and Thanks again : )
Fortnite won't let you make a llama T-shirt that infringes on their copyright yet steals the Carlton Dance for its game. How ironic!
Alfonso Rivera also stole that dance so it's ok.
ALSO STOLE THE GAME!!!!! It was stolen from PubG
why tf would u sell fortnite tshirts anyway
Who said they didn't pay for the Carlton Dance?
JustinHit they didn’t and it isn’t the Carlton dance. He stole it from Courtney Cox who did it Bruce Springsteen’s video.
the I "heart" NY logo has been trademarked since the early 1970s. The designer, Milton Glaser, is someone that you end up studying in art school.
