    So many are complaining about the cutters or the combo knife blade (I actually am a fan of combo knife blades). What sells this in my opinion is the center axis screwdriver that uses full size bits, the one hand deployed spring loaded pliers, and of course the scissors.
    I carry several blades on me so it wouldn't bother me if this didn't have a blade. As far goes as the cutters, I know there weak but I wouldn't be re-wiring my house with these so I just put up with them for occasional use.
    Finally, show me a competing multitool that has full size bits on a center axis screwdriver and slide out (not flip out) pliers, and I'll consider buying that one. Until then, it's the center drive for the win.

    Good review and mods. What would be great is a removable diamond file to sharpen that nice long straight edge blade.

    Last time I received a Gerber multitool was back in 2002.
    This might be the year I buy a Gerber.

    Scissors! Thanks to my mother side of the family I need to trim my nose hairs every damn day. Also as a bearded person who has never not had a beard in my adult life I love being able to quickly trip the mustache, sideburns, and any wild hairs coming out my face. Also great for cutting poopy dreads of my pulli's butt! Can't tell you how important this ability is.

    Get rid of the half serrated blade. I hate them. I would rather have full serrated blade or straight edge. The new leatherman p2 did the same thing deal breaker for me. I like the tool other than that.

      Agreed - I don't care for serrations either.

      The Plus version replaces the fully serrated blade with the scissors, so that's why they made the blade a partially serrated one. The reviews I saw on the standard Centerdrive noted that the fully serrated blade was garbage, so maybe it's for the best they're doing it this way on the Plus.

      Would be nice if they gave the option of a straight blade or a combo blade and gave you the choice. Then they would find out how few people actually want a serrated blade.

    This should probably cost $90 new without the case. Tbh, the case looks really nice, but this is supposed to compete with the Leatherman Wave+, which is $100 new. I'm not paying $125 new for a Gerber tool lol. And then yah, I don't want a half serrated blade, so now I have to somehow obtain a blade from the original centerdrive, which is more cost to me. Now if the blade was a coated D2 or 154CM, I'd probably pay the current asking price. The bit driver and retractable plier head are attractive items, but pricing your tool above the leading competition while also using the same tier of steel isn't how to beat the competition

    How does Gerber compare to Leatherman on quality and then price?

    • @purpleether5405
      @purpleether5405 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find quality better. I have a bunch of leatherman and the back springs on the smaller ones keep breaking. Also the scissors spring they use breaks too. It's a straight bit of metal rather than the bendy spring type stuff victorinox and gerber use which is far superior.

    Instead of adding different tools, i wish Gerber would have just fixed the issues that it had in the first place.
    Some were pretty serious. Im really not impressed with any MT companies this year. Leatherman included.

    • @survivalofthefittest409
      @survivalofthefittest409 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@purpleether5405 Their cutters for one. They shatter quite easily, thats common knowledge.
      Plastic pivots, worthless serrated blades (dont cut, stupid dull), i could go on.

    • @hunterglaspell5580
      @hunterglaspell5580 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Survival of the Fittest the serrations have been fixed. I have an old mp600 and a new one I just bought the other week. The serrated design is completely different. Much better. Plastic pivot? No sir. And the lock has a metal bar underneath of it so it’s sturdy. The cutters do need fixing

    • @absolutez3r019
      @absolutez3r019 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hunterglaspell5580 I don't like combo blades. Prefer to have to separate. But the cutters are terrible. Carbide isn't meant for that use , thats why they break. My friend's Center Drive broke cutting 12awg solid core right out of the box. A cheap pair of dollar store side cutters can do that job with out breaking

    420 sucks and the carbide cutters are useless. For the price you could just go with letterman with the 154cm and the bit kit with driver if you're willing to give up a crappy file and the centered drive feature

  • @jamescox5638
    @jamescox5638 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really wish the center drive had a true center drive. It's only centered in one way, it's still off center from the frame of the tool which kind of defeats it being called a center drive😢

    Uppgrade all you want but the center drive will remain a piece of crap, the toolset is good but the overall quality and qc is terrible. I own one and pretty much every tool on it has to be babied or it will break. How those glass like cutter inserts made it into production is beyond me. The file doesnt even cut plastic, awl tip broken from light drilling in wood, prybar couldnt even lift a small nail without bending. The blade was ok once sharpened but it wasnt fully sharpened out of the box. This is one of thier biggest , heavy duty multitools but you have to use it like swisschamp or risk damaging it. Scissors and a new paintjob wont change a thing.
