A couple corrections: 1) Despite the ANAC rule, co-pilots still can, and do, land Madeira all the time. 2) It's hard to "see" turbulence from a (stabilized) camera video. As an expert, I know what to look for. From the way the camera jostled, the passengers were being thrown around quite a bit from the wind. No pilot can prevent the wind from throwing around the aircraft. This effect, however, abated right before touchdown because surface winds are slowed down by trees and other obstacles. So, yes, the landing was scary and bumpy, but it abated right before touchdown making for a smooth landing. Clapping was expected.
I know that feeling well Paulo, we were due to land in to Funchal on 5 November for a one week holiday. Half way through our flight from the UK we were told that Funchal was closed-down due to wind-conditions, and we were diverted to Tenerife South as Porto Santo was full. After 3.5 hours we eventually made it back to Funchal, with a similar round of applause on landing. I love your videos almost as much as your beautiful island. :)
Everyone is getting this wrong. The smooth landing is because trees and other obstacles calm the surface wind. I've been on many flights where we are tossed around violently, before "miraculously" smoothing out seconds before touchdown. But it's all for a reason. No pilot can smooth out turbulence.
What ILS/autoland? LMAO The airport in this video: LPMA, lacks an Instrument landing system. vau.aero/navdb/chart/LPMA.pdf The turbulent descent? Well turbulence is is any pattern of fluid motion characterized by chaotic changes in pressure and flow velocity. And these bumps are beyond the control of the pilot, last time I checked, there is no 'cancel turbulence button' in a cockpit. Yeah, keep trying buddy.
Aviation and Travel HD Umm.. actually yeah, there is. Ever heard of a gyro? They're more common on boats, and on almost all cruise ships. But they got 'em on planes now. Had it on this plane. They failed to activate it.
Why are people against clapping? I'm an aviation enthusiast myself and training to be a pilot, but why do people have an issue.. I'm sure if you just landed in very rough conditions you'd want to have your passengers giving respect for you. You're holding their life in your hands.
Excellent and thrilling. Love the view from behind the wing and the long turn-in. You could hear the nerves with that dip at 6.32. Great job pilots! I don't know why anyone said they didn't like this.
I HAVE to have a window seat bc I love to see the terrain, waters, mountains etc as we take off and land and also bc I'll get motion sick if I can't see out the window. I love flying! I love your video. Thanks for sharing!
That's a good way to get the window seat..."Excuse me, sir, but if you don't trade my middle seat for your window seat I'm going to puke all over you!"
I love Funchal approaches - Have`nt been there yet, but seen tons of videos and would purchase a ticket to go there just for the sake of experiencing the landing.
I'm Swiss, and my first thought hearing the English PA was: omg what a strong Swiss(-german) accent, probably from Zurich or somewhere around. That's how our English usually sounds :D our standard German has that accent too, not because we wouldn't try hard enough, but that's somehow part of our identity. We have 4 official languages in Switzerland, so maybe that's our way to show from which part we're from: by our accent.
The smooth landing is because trees and ground obstacles calm the wind near the surface. This happens everywhere and any frequent flier knows your plane miraculously "smooths out" seconds before touchdown on blustery days.
When we flew the plane got into the "Clean air masses of turbulence." It did not last long, but it was powerful enough. It was cool me, like a grass, and it all stuck out
Gostei. Enquanto o avião circulava as pessoas falavam, quando o avião iniciou a aterragem ficou tudo calado. Ou seja, como diz o povo, quem tem cu tem medo.
They were on a plane operated by a guy who can't even operate the english language. Clapping does not mean the landing was crappy it means there were any number of circumstances during the approach and/or landing that were unusually difficult or cause for alarm.
Why should he speak English? The flight was from Lisboa (Lisbon), to another Portuguese airport. Seems reasonable to speak Portuguese. I fly regularly from Toulouse to Rome. The announcements are usually in French and Italian, with a modicum of English. You can be sure that if the pilot did not have Egglish to a comprehensive level, he would not be flying, as English is generally the lingua franca of air transport. Besides , in general, many Europeans tend to speak two or three languages.
Funchal, Madeira. Always been notorious for hairy landings as has Gibraltar which requires a special rating and additional training for UK crews! But Diversion to Alternate (landing elsewhere) cannot be avoided at times because 'Get-thereitis' is what's being avoided instead when this happens: Avoid 'Get-thereitis' and be better off possibly five minutes late for your appointment. Rather than allow 'Get-thereitis' and be possibly fifty years early for your funeral! :o)
Don't forget to watch this AMAZING video!

I really appreciate how well informed the captain keeps the passengers on this flight. Wonderful
I prefer they operate the aircraft and not bother spending so much time on the PA system
I agree. Also, it sure looks BEAUTIFUL there!! Hey, I'm sure I missed it, but where was this?
Hey what up
Bloody hell that was SMOOTH !!!
PRicardofaria don't you mean the first officer made it easy?
Paavan Chohan

After watching many of your beautiful videos from outside the aircraft, it is interesting to see this view from inside. What a beautiful setting!
Sure is!!
yup fortreal
What a smooth landing. The pilot deserved the applause. Well done!
I like how passengers applaud after tough landings or situations, pilots deserve that
Good very good !
Nice landing
nice vidéo !!!!!
thank you !!!!
Always excite me watching planes takes off at this Airport 😉
Even though I love flying, some days rubber touching asphalt is the best thing in the world.
That poor girl at the end was in tears, bless her.
Bloody brilliant video !!. And Madeira, Churchill's favourite holiday retreat !
Woww the view is as impressive outside as inside. Great filming
Absolutely buttered the bread on that landing! Beautiful job boys!

Neautiful landing from the pilots
My goodness that place is beautiful.
Outstanding skills shown by the pilot. Respect.
What skills? The broken english, bumpy descent, or ILS (autopilot) landing?
What ILS/autoland? LMAO The airport in this video: LPMA, lacks an Instrument landing system. vau.aero/navdb/chart/LPMA.pdf
The turbulent descent? Well turbulence is is any pattern of fluid motion characterized by chaotic changes in pressure and flow velocity. And these bumps are beyond the control of the pilot, last time I checked, there is no 'cancel turbulence button' in a cockpit. Yeah, keep trying buddy.

ivan abcdefg Oh wow, you’re hilarious.
LMAO HAHA, no dude. there´s no ILS available at Funchal, madeira
Why are people against clapping? I'm an aviation enthusiast myself and training to be a pilot, but why do people have an issue.. I'm sure if you just landed in very rough conditions you'd want to have your passengers giving respect for you. You're holding their life in your hands.
Smoothest touchdown I seen since the LOT with no landing gear. Great pilots
Excellent and thrilling. Love the view from behind the wing and the long turn-in. You could hear the nerves with that dip at 6.32. Great job pilots! I don't know why anyone said they didn't like this.
BEST LANDING EVER.
Such a smooth landing! Great skills!
Smooth than silk wow! Nice video
Very nice video, thanks. Love the Funchal approach
Any landing where we can take off again is a great landing.
This was just pure gravy though. Buttery smooth landing from the pilot.
Very cool video! There is always wind! Liked!
I've watched so many Madeira spotting videos but this is my first "passenger pic" video I've seen
Very Nice Landing! Thanks for sharing bud!
Landed here only once and it was amazing !!!!!!!!!
That was a really smooth landing.
good vid
God bless all the pilots in the world! Awesome textbook landing! Thumbs up! 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 Greetings from Douglas, Arizona.
ricardopr54 I live in Douglas Isle of Man, coincidence
Luco Where's that? ... Cool
ricardopr54 small island in the middle of no where pretty much 😂 British Isles, near England and Ireland.
Luco Ha ha ha, Same here, Douglas is a really small town right at the US / Mexico Border on the south edge of Arizona...👍😆
Totally agree! They have big and strong hearts! God bless them indeed!
exelent videos...weather is perfect.
Nice to see you at the opposite end of plane spotting!
I can do 10 landings a day there with any wind , no problem !
*Safely in my 737-800 home cockpit with X-Plane 11* ;-)
some highly professional work there from both the pilot and the cameraman. I'd have applauded;)
a320 landings are always smooth
Very nice. Thank you.
Great video !! Thank You For Sharing 🤗
Great skilled touchdown
A well deserved applause !!!!
Landing seemed smooth
Amazing in-flight. Great flying!
I HAVE to have a window seat bc I love to see the terrain, waters, mountains etc as we take off and land and also bc I'll get motion sick if I can't see out the window. I love flying! I love your video. Thanks for sharing!
MLD-RN 1974 I thought I was the only person who feels motion sick if I can't see through the window.
Same here. If i get stuck with an aisle though, what helps is to have a flight attendant sit in your lap.
ivan abcdefg o always go 2 hours early and switch my seats, sometimes it's free aometes extra 10$ it's worth it tho
That's a good way to get the window seat..."Excuse me, sir, but if you don't trade my middle seat for your window seat I'm going to puke all over you!"
Nice video !
Love the applause! Subscribed
Awesome video! Looks like you were holding for a while!
Hi very nice video - hope to visit Madeira myself in the future.
Lovely smooth landing, thank you for another great video!
That landing was smoooooooth
Always a amazing approach! I don't like applause after landing, but in this case it is absolutely right :-)! Great Video, thanks for sharing!
efbeVideo why would you don't like the applause?
Lisbon!
What would you do if crash, boo?
I have never understood why a video of a flying wing has any appeal. Videos of what is going on in the cabin are far more interesting.
I think that applause was actually because the pilot buttered the landing...
Good Video
Ask them all to clap when they're going home🤣
Slow flight procedure to circuit around the airport! Beautiful landing.
that was the smoothest landing I've ever seen, didn't even hear anything
That was an amazing onboard footage.
I love Funchal approaches - Have`nt been there yet, but seen tons of videos and would purchase a ticket to go there just for the sake of experiencing the landing.
you should try landing at Keflavik Airport iceland during winter storm.
Perfect video! I miss Madeira, was there in 2013.

Fantastico equandrametro da asa durante toda a aproximação e aterragem
Very windy and smooth landing, that was amazing! :)
PRicardofaria Ohhh, did YOU land that thing??
Joachim Steinhilber stop bein a dick
The smooth landing is because trees and ground obstacles calm the wind near the surface. This happens everywhere and any frequent flier knows your plane miraculously "smooths out" seconds before touchdown on blustery days.
Madeira is the most beautiful place in the world!
beautiful place, tough landing on a difficult airport..
Bravo Pilot! well done :) My son visited Madeira to ride in the Enduro challenge Feb 2017..they had a great time ..I want to visit too :)
the approach and landing at this airport are unique.excellent onboard footage my friend.
Haha " Yay we didn't die! "
YOU ~ ROCK ! !
Good one
At 5:23, I was like uhh!! Thank God. Finally I saw a slice of landmass...
now we know what a southwest airbus wing looks like😆
Dana Steele It’s EasyJet not southwest
nor does SW fly an Airbus.
When we flew the plane got into the "Clean air masses of turbulence." It did not last long, but it was powerful enough. It was cool me, like a grass, and it all stuck out
awesome!
Smmmmooooooooth!
There is nothing in this world quite like a Funchal landing !
Fantástico Paulo, grande abraço
nice video of this landing and all ended smooth and safely! rob
Reminds me of my landing in Rejkyavik(very windy country!). Here the pilots didn't do the reverse thrust unlike the Icelandic ones.
Smooth! Nice.
PRicardofaria it really looks smooth, I had way more harder Landings. :D
can some one tell me which country which place they landed? it seems a nice place to visit...
madeira..... the best airport
It looks like was crosswind at 10 o’clock
Ficou fixe o vídeo! Parabéns!
nice landing
Gostei. Enquanto o avião circulava as pessoas falavam, quando o avião iniciou a aterragem ficou tudo calado. Ou seja, como diz o povo, quem tem cu tem medo.
Where is this? This looks beautiful, I want to go on vacation there? Where?
Madeira, Portugal
Thank you.
It's a small island from Portugal
I'm sorry i had no idea you're a plane clapper, we have to break up :-]
Very nice view of surroundings.
I never applaude on touchdown, beacuse I know that it is far from over in trems of safe landing. But, that's me.
thanks to GOD instead of thanking mortel beings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Smooth
What camera?
nice to see one from the inside. did any of your friends catch this one from the ground?
PRicardofaria Maybe AviationChannel2010 caught it
Oh.. The clappers
They should not applause with spoilers just extended and going about 146 knots.
Не только русские хлопают😂
Mc Donalds' fed passengers = heavy landing
Just after landing, the pilot flying was like "ah, smug mode!" :D
OH BOOOO! TJF
I love it when people clap after landing :)
Yes, it helps highlight the morons around you. That was a fine landing. Not sure what the fuss was about.
They were on a plane operated by a guy who can't even operate the english language. Clapping does not mean the landing was crappy it means there were any number of circumstances during the approach and/or landing that were unusually difficult or cause for alarm.

madeira
Why should he speek english? becouse flying is international!
... vamos "tentar" aterrar ...
Nunca é grande coisa ouvir estas palavras ... :-S
