Terrain ! Terrain ! That warning to the pilot flying next to the side of the mountain gave me goosebumps. Simply amazing landing in such a difficult, dangerous runway
like a runway perched right at the rim of the Grand Canyon!! most of Colombia is rugged like this except the Departmento Amazonas. very rugged and beautiful in blue sky weather. I would hate to be approaching this runway in foggy weather. rode a puddle jumper from medellin to Capurgana near the Panama border on the Caribbean once. just before the airport we were weaving our way between tree covered hills so close I swear you could reach out and grab a hand-full of leaves.
That is the best bird's eye view landing I've ever seen, loved it! Even though my heart was in my mouth, descending through all that terrain and close to the runway too, excellent pilot skills!

11/24.2022. Happy Thanks Giving from The U.S. That Approach was Tame ! The Only Thing dangerous is if you loose Airplane Lift and are going down in the Rugged Terrain. Well thst and Crosswinds and Weather Conditions. Etc.etc. 😁 Runway looks Pretty Well Maintained. 😎 Where else can you put another Aerodrome ?
These professional pilots must be freaking out the challenges of suddenly appearing run way from no where ..looks like a video game landing but here it is reality ..hats off these magnificent men with flying machines ....

Was surprised at how far down the runway the wheels touched down. There was obviously more runway than I thought there. Awesome scenery, beautiful country, insane place for a runway….lol 👍🏻😎
I landed there once. It is Bucaramanga, if I'm not mistaken. It scared the crap out of me. From watching those beautiful deep valleys and all of a sudden the plane stood on the ground!!
remember that the three biggest cordilleras of Andes pasa through Colombia,the west Andes,the center Andes and the east Andes,and they are magnificent.
As a lifelong commercial pilot, I can assure you every runway is just as dangerous as any other if you choose not to land on it in the correct configuration and at the correct speed near to the indicated touch-down point.

The pilots have the option of turning this warning off when landing at airports like this one. It's called GPWS Override, and used to reduce distractions during certain landings. They probably left it on for effect in the video.
GPWS : 500, terrain, 5. Pilot : reverse set :))))) Is there a lot of people living in that mountain? I mean even in Switzerland with lots of mountains we don't have such airports. Colombian pilots should have steel balls to land in such runways and steel ears to ignore all the alerts they hear. Well done :)

***** We have many airlines, the ones that I could think of are Avianca, Viva Colombia, Satena, ADA, Aero Republica (which now is part of Copa Airlines), Easyfly (if im not wrong), SAM Colombia, Aires (which is now part of LAN Colombia) And surprisingly enough in my opinion we don't have as much ATRs or Fokkers as we have a320's. The biggest airlines (Avianca, Viva Colombia, LAN, Copa) use more a320's 737's and some Embraers to travel around the country
Andres Guerrero Nice. Well there is an obvious reason for them to prefer the A320s and B737's. They are heavier and therefore more stable specially the they get into windy mountain corridors.
The pilots are really very brave. They play with their lives and become responsible for the safe and sound arrival of the passengers in their destinations.
Who else is here after seeing a hard touchdown of N281AV on 27-10-2020 and on the next day damage to N284AV due to loose tarmac on take-off? Respect for the pilots flying to/from this airport! Beautiful scenery but very unforgiving it seems.

The main challenge here is that in mountainous terrain such as this, the winds can be very unpredictable. Beautiful to look at though.
