Remember that break dancing golem? This is him now.
That's one of many things I love about the anime. When you see something, a spell or character, it always comes back in some form or fashion
🤟 🪨 🔥
Damn, I feel old now.
It was a pretty cool callback but it didn’t really do anything except stand there.
@deathstrokecat5390
I think it was more a distraction attempt. The clone would need to keep an eye on the golem and Freiren and block spells. Frieren is trying to draw as much effort and attention as possible away from Fern.
Golem really beefed up over the last few decades 😂
"How much budget are we spending on this fight scene?"
"Can you hear the music?"
"Okay, but we have to come in und-"
"CAN YOU HEAR?! THE MUSIC?!"
"I was taught only to use basic spells in combat; My master said that was enough for mages of this era." And here we see why, this is so far above anything we've seen modern mages pull off.
but her logic still doesnt make sense, because is canon that the average modern mage, is still far above what there once was
@douglaswalker7707 the actual reasoning is really simple, stamina and subterfuge. Modern mages and, not unintentionally, demons have a habit of using powerful alpha strikes against opponents. You see it in the bird trial, all the fights and spells are big and flashy, except Fern.
Fern has below average mana, mostly because of how young she is, but still. However, she is a genius at mana control and mana suppression. So Freiren taught her to really solely on the two most mana efficient spells in existence, basic attack and defense magic.
So while everyone else is burning through mana with huge spells and creative defenses, Fern is using next to no mana with repeated basic attacks and tight, efficient shielding. And don't forget, there's only one spell that can block Zoltrek, the basic defense magic that most mages aren't super efficient with.
It's just overkill against humans at least.
@@simon2493 maybe? If Fern had normal or above average mana it would absolutely be overkill, but she's held back by her limited mana compared to her peers
Does she has small amount of mana or is it effect of mana suppression? Remeber that she constantly suppresses her mana like Flamme and Friren.@@Outlawbyname
frieren casually summoning black holes, this is peak
You mean clone frieren
@@griswo3272 clone frieren can only do what normal frieren can, but yeah, it was clone frieren who summoned the black hole
The casualness of it cheapens the experience imo. There's no tension or expression on their faces. So boring.
@@mitchywilson9892 If it were any other character but Frieren and Fern, there would be tension. They never show emotion on their faces while fighting because their whole fighting style is subtlety and obscuring their own power.
@@mitchywilson9892it just goes to show that frieren can do this things on a whim because she’s that powerful, I bet that black hole isn’t even close to being her strongest spell
I love how fight scenes in frieren has no unnecessary talking like pretty much every other animes.
Peak fight, no talking, just epic spells and battling.
One of the reasons I like Goblin Slayer so much.
but the battles are riddled with technique explanatitons. Like seriously, you're literally explaining your power, figuring out your weakness wouldn't be hard at all!
there are other battles in the future where the opponent speak A LOT. You'll see.
@@pierluigidipietro8097 If we think about the same character then talking is basically one of her strongest weapon ^^, and her more dangerous.
And what's wild is that Himmel, Eisen and Heiter were equally as strong in their own ways
Now imagine Himmel if Spoilers
Actually had the hero sword.
@@Vegadra that's no spoilers my guy
Eisen's strength was his head.
Himmel's strength was heart.
Heiter's strength was his liver.
Seems like a well rounded party.
They were not 😅
@@westenevI laughed way harder than I should have
Frieren: "I know how to beat you."

I kept expecting it to happen! But nope.
I don't think frieren has mimic summoning magic
I thought that she would sarcastically call the copy to look at the new grimoire
LOL that would honestly have been the highlight if they just yeeted a random mimic into the boss room, waited for 30 seconds, and then walked it to see Frieren's clone being eaten XD
@@Volkaer Nah. Too predictable, I think. Still, I'm surprised Fern didn't at least insist on trying it.
That black hole animation was next level,it’s even hard to get a clear screenshot of it because of all the distortions it’s making on space. Really makes you wonder how strong the Demon King was if even someone like Frieren needed to get serious and have an entire party to defeat him
Makes me wonder how much stronger she has gotten since fighting th demon lord too
It's not like the rest of the Hero Party were chumps. Frieren might have been the DPS but all 4 of them were monsters in their own right.
@@SBroproductions MF really was the true last boss,I do not doubt that he had some reality bending magic and was a physical monster on his own
@@onesmileybaldy8303 Definitely. I'd be surprised if his castle was still left standing.
Not to mention, it was surely a team effort, so the Demon King must have been such a beast.
If Freiren loses Anime of the Year to another Shonen, we riot.
Technically Frieren is Shonen too but yeah it deserves to win
It would be even wilder if Demonslayer beats it in the fantasy category
Frieren deserves to be noticed because it went all out and set new records. It is both beautifully animated and written well
I want Solo Leveling to win because Drip-Woo
If demon slayer wins best fantasy, I'm genuinely losing all of my remaining trust in the judges, even if the awards are mostly based on votes.
Demon slayer isn't even really a fantasy anime, since it's set in the real world with some fantasy elements like demons and breathing magic? It's a shame it has taken the award from better shows due to its crazy popularity. Rant over.
The fact that she has a spell that doesn't produce a natural phenomenon through mana but manipulate it as it is, is insane.
That's the 2nd fictional universe I know of which incorporates usage of mana as something other than power sources for magic phenomena.
@@simon2493First being...?
@@mustafaa.8886light novel greatest magic master retirement plan. Judging by the cover it's nothing special, but it actually has one of the most complex magic systems I know of. I'm sorry but what did you mean with this? Which spell are you talking about? The blackhole spell?
Yeah that one is great@simon2493
Love this show so much. Madhouse put their heart and soul into these fights. Only 2 more Frieren Fridays left 😂
Noooooooo 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Frieren's hidden final attack was also her most vulnerable moment, guess now we know why Frieren was embrassed to talk about her weakness.
What was it?
@@trendthis364 The height of magic. Not appearing in this clip named the height of magic, ironically.
After Fern blows the clone's arms off with her zoltraAK-47 attack, clone Frieren gives Fern a cold side eye that sends her flying into the wall behind her and keeps her pinned there, smashing Fern's staff. Until real Frieren vaporizes clone Frieren with a large floor to ceiling zoltraak blast.
@trendthis364 it's her reaction to zoltrac, she's taught herself to react almost instinctively to defend against (almost) all magic but zoltrac is still new to her so there's a small delay when defending against it

That is the best hair animartion ever. Like literally ever
I agree. Also, notice when the clone uses Black hole how the pigtails get pull up and entangled.

"Stand proud, Fern. You're strong"
"FRIEREN SAMA, SAVE ME"
Nah Fern took that like a champ. "So this is the height of magic".
I like how Clone Frieren summoned an entire shield to protect herself from Fern. I'm assuming its something to do with the fact that Fern really likes targeting all sides and Frieren can't outcast her.
I kinda doubt fern can outcast Frieren if she was trying, I just assumed it was because although her surprise attack didn't quite work )she was very slightly too slow for the opening), it nearly did resulting in Frieren having to "rush" a shield (The best option of which would be to just do a full coverage shield as you don't have to identify the specific direction which would take longer)
The problem with full coverage for modern defensive magic is the mana cost. I suspect that isn't much of an issue for Frieren (or clone Frieren) in most cases. I'm more confused as to why clone Frieren didn't attempt full coverage defense later while Fern was rapid casting offensive magic from multiple angles.
Nah it's because she doesn't know where fern is, since Fern is great at hiding and Frierens mana detection is off for when she attacks, so logically speaking, if you a) know you will be attacked when vulnerable, and B) don't know from which direction, then the obvious only option is to do full defense. It's a good thing they did because clone Frieren is like real Frieren, she probably knows their plan of using her weakness.
@hapless1597 As far as speed goes, she can. Frieren herself has stated that Fern can cast faster than she can.
In terms of coverage, they might be equal. Fern has shown she can launch multiple simultaneous attacks from multiple directions. There's a limit to how many directions you can launch an attack from, and Fern was pretty much attacking from a full sphere against Ehre.
Now for power, no. It's obvious who can put out more power. Some of those spells looked like they were on the verge of breaking reality.
@@bradgaines5091and it’s unlikely fern will ever outmatch frieren in terms of pure firepower simply because of her smaller lifespan
The visuals and chaos of this display are absolutely breathtaking. Imagine how this would’ve looked like during Frieren’s fiercest battles alongside Himmel in the others, or even to non-magic users. Himmel, Eisen, and Heiter are experts in their own right, but Frieren is a master of offensive magic and capable of feats and spells that would look impressive to other mages, and even nightmarishly otherworldly to those who don’t use magic.
Yeah, the final battle against the Demon King must have been insane.
The beauty of this show is that we see so little of the ten year quest. We see little glimpses but this is about everything beyond the end :)
That's the scary part, Frieren is NOT a great blaster mage (and she knows it). Sirie(sp) is much more powerful. Frieren's a smarter mage though and more flexible. sm
I love how this anime feels like an innocently-colored child's fable book and then scenes like these pull the carpet from beneath my feet. Frieren is literally causing singularities and manipulating gravity. This anime is freaking awesome.
Methode, Sense and the others that are magically sensing what everyone is doing: What the actual f*ck is happening in there? I mean like for real
I've been thinking the same thing. They could sense the other mage's mana well enough to track them, so you know they could sense the hellstorm being unleashed in that room.
At least some of them would have been thinking "I'm glad we decided not to go in after all."
Meanwhile poor Fern had a front row seat while trying to stay out of the splash zone.
0:26 is the coldest shot ive seen in this show so far, giving jojo vibes
What I like most is that the characters make minimal sound when their fighting and dialogue is usually inner thoughts.
I *do not miss* having someone stood to the side saying "OH WOW, NOW SUCH-AND-SUCH IS USING THIS-AND-THAT! ISN'T THAT AMAZING!?!"
There was a scene that other character were hovering far above, and their voice is pretty faint, lol. It make me feel like I'm there. So in this scene where things are very loud, you don't hear anything but explosions.
Wasn't the "height of magic" that fern eas referring to the undetectable blast? Sure, it was less powerful and visually impressive than her other spells, but it has implications that can't be overstated
Yea but as you said, the reason it's the height is of it's implications.
So without context it's not as impressive for a short clip to put on the internet
Was it less powerful though? It didnt only make her fly into the wall, you can see that fern couldnt move at all since she was stuck there, pressed into the wall as she was waiting. It broke her staff and kept shattering the stone.
@@hajkie any of friren's other attacks would have vaporized fern if they were left unblocked like that
The attack is undodgeable unshieldable, since it's not mana based, it's manipulating the natural existing mana around her forming to her will rather than using her own mana
Reason it’s the height of magic is because it’s unblockable. If you don’t recognize it as magic you can’t visualize blocking it and may not be as powerful as these other flashy spell it can turn you to paste just fine.
Spoiler
The only one to block this from Frieren so far is another great mage demon who’s 3000+ years old
I love the shot of Frieren with her emotionless stare as the wind blows her hair around and her ears tilted downward. Idk how it's possible to look so badass while also looking insanely cute at the same time.
0:57 that way of closing your eyes and opening them knowing what's coming, 0:27 hair flying with a cold look, all those details without dialogue and even so we know what you're thinking, thanks to the animation house
O.O that's why the Clone knew to put up the barrier. Frieren blinked!
@@lucielm well yes. clone stares at frier cuz it cant realy detect fern.. that single clue was enough
I'm all for a fight where the visuals, spectacle, and music just speaks for itself. No need for much to be said. Just two absolute monsters clashing and Fern doing her best to find an opening.
Awesome to see Frieren having an opponent that requires her to give a serious effort.
Notice the lack of talking or yelling bravado?
In battle there’s no room for conversation, only the exchange of combat - anything else is a waste of air, you may as well scream into the void and accept death.
Meanwhile you couldve countered, a feint, and attacked as means of pushing the enemy around the field of chess until you have the final checkmate.
"Frieren, Journey's End" - She really does give off the final boss vibes

Playing Elden Ring PvP made me understand Frieren’s strategy. You don’t need the big fancy spells. Small combos can be very effective against other players
Watching Frieren has finally motivated me to try making an INT build in Elden Ring

Madhouse's animation for these high-level magic fights has been a delight enough that it makes me enjoy the concept in and of itself. I feel the ones I recall before this show amounted to relabelled laser guns or elements that might as well be given to the X-Men, while what I've seen throughout the last few episodes really does feel like two mages digging into their bag of tricks to find a spell that can defeat the other.
100%. Frieren raised the bar for everyone. Any magic anime before Frieren seemed stupid and poorly done.
Imagine being so powerful, that you walk into the dungeon and the dungeon is like, yep thats our new final boss. 😂😂
Screen: A literal black hole
Background Music: _Medieval_
If frieren doesnt get anime of the year, scuffed
There isn't a battle every episode, but the ones we get are EPIC!
All that magic being cast and yet the only spell that is truly needed to defeat Final Boss Frieren is one that can create a mimic
Not really. If the Frieren clone views them like Frieren views Demons, a mimic couldn't distract her
@@utopia9473 She's not stupid. Also, she can take care of a mimic by herself, but prefers being helped because making the mimic explode create a mess in her hairs.
This is why Madhouse is my favorite studio, even with the absolutely stunning animation they somehow never make you lose focus from the actual fights, unlike Mappa or Toei where you tend to focus more on animation than to the actual fight scenes.
The person who animated most of this scene was vercreek and he also worked on Jujutsu Kaisen a MAPPA show so I don't really know what you're talking about
Do your research before you criticize buddy.
madhouse is an artsy studio that usually makes the best directed shows. Mappa and toei just brute force
we forgetting that a decade or two ago, Madhouse was exactly like Mappa, overworking their staff whilst also taking on a crazy amount of anime and taking the anime industry by storm
Madhouse have grown a lot from there tho, I hope Mappa does too
Im summerizing a comment i read before about this scene, it is established that mages need to understand or confidently imagine what magic they are casting before they cast it, this means that frieren understands, and confidently visualizes the laws of spacetime itself, the unimaginable power of a black hole, and how to simply shatter it.
The animation on the hair alone is incredible.
I love how - even in such dynamic fight scenes - they sticked to their high quality drawing style and didn't ruin it with the use of CGI like many other shows (unfortunately) do today - Great work, great show and already a modern classic!
The animation went ALL OUT with this fight!!! I was on the edge of my seat! Frieren is such a gorgeous anime!
😱 💥 What in the “Fate Apocrypha” is going on?!
"Demon Slayer has the best animation" - 🤓🤓
Sousou no Frieren: 🍷🗿
When you see her create a black hole and bend the fabric of reality itself with magic, it really drives home exactly why she limits herself and Fern to the most basic spell she knows for attack and defense. It's a waste of time and effort for her to cast those on 99% of the population lol
I find it so funny that in this super intense duel to the death her pigtails are just going wild everywhere
The fact that the other elf said that Freiren is relatively unskilled at combat for her age makes this even crazier
Serie must be insanely powerful if she thinks Frieren failed to reach the heights of magic.
Frieren: "We only need basic attack magic, nothing flashy."
Doppelfrieren:
“After all, no one knows better than I do, how frightening I can be.” Frieren to Fern.
that was so extra from the anime team, that black hole didn't even do nothing, like why did they have to add that.
Terraria ver 1.5 looks sick
0:02 damn the animation is peak
the fact that the golem seems to have cast a spell of its own is kinda scary.
just realizing they set up that the shield spell didnt exist during frierens adventure....what what did they do to stop this insanity before
A shiton of other shields, bro. It's not that there weren't any, it's that the ones existed couldn't block Zoltraak. Probably those who had a lot of mana could make a giant "basic" plain shield thick as a house. But Zoltraak still could counter it. It's like tank armor: it was just a metal plate that got thicker and thicker as the war progressed but in the end they figured that you need a composite to counter a HEAT
Let us hope for Season 2 for this juggernaut of a show!
This animation just go so hard for no reason lol, they literally didn't have to do it and yet they gave us a tremendous spectacle. Since when did Madhouse become so based?🤩

Hey Crunchyroll, I hope you post The Height of Magic Part 2 with the REAL Height of Magic of the episode.....
For me, everything can be x100 times cooler than it normaly is, just include a black hole and you bought me.
Frieren creates a golem to activate 2 lightning spells at the same time
This feels like an actual DnD wizard fight that is like incredible tense, no words, no banter, just spells being thrown around and the environment getting actually chewed up.
I feel like this needs to be narrated by Carl Sagan because I am clearly watching the creation of the universe.
this music is so gives me chill whaatt
everything about this is soo amazing. The lack of dialogue, just letting us see the spells without all the chatter "Im casting my ultimate weapon!" we just discover it and can be in awe by it. The music also has me on the edge of my seat. LOVE IT.
The reason why i love this mirror match is because it's not the usual mirror match where both og and replica are doing exactly the same thing just to convey the idea of them being the same in strength and power
Yeah, both Frieren and Clone have the same powers but they aren't mimicking each other, they're using all their arsenal instead of going Zoltraack vs Zoltraack, golem vs golem, speed vs speed...
KAWAII WAIFU PRINCESSE ELF FRIEREN 💕😘😈😍🔥💋🎌

Total control. A master at work.
imo Frieren is just ok, but it's amusing how this series deals with magic in a nice way, compared to abominations such as Fairy Tail (the music is kinda similar, I guess that's how the japanese interpret the "magical" aesthetics)
on 0:29 we can see shield magic and it awesome how friren even don`t move when casting it. ~~~
Casually throwing blackholes at each other. I dont know power scaling of this anime but i asstimate that an average top tier veteran mage would die from simply using it due to mana cost being so high. That's assuming they could even fathom the magic behind it. It's probably some mythic spell that few or no one else knows beside frieren and serie.
It's atrocity you didn't post the pinnacle of magic scene
I could have *defeated the clone in < 10s* ...
I go back, grab my secret weapon, and place it in the room.
The double will go for it and i will destroy it.
What item could hold the strength of taking out Frieren this easily?
The Mimic near the entrance.
She had no choice but look inside... that's when i strike!
And before you argue: it is obvious those clones copy behaivor to a T.
A fatal flaw. (luckily the demon lord didn't know about it...)
Producing a black hole is a sign of potent mana, but using a black hole for its accretion disk as a particle sawblade is a sign of resourcefulness.
Near lightspeed particles at 10000000°C go brrrrrttt
We don't know much of the battle against the Demon King, aside that Frieren had to go all out, and that had any of the four heroes not been present, the other three would have been killed. It was likely an epic and close-run thing.
and now let's not forget that frieren isn't only very young for an elf, but also pretty weak for her age
PEAK FICTION
Just pure 2D magic.
Fern is an absolute unit. Taking on Frieren in any form of magical battle takes courage.
Frieren, Legendary Mage is the Height of Magic 😊
I don't know why everyone was afraid to get Frieren clone. 100% easiest clone to beat. Go find a mimic and sit it in the room. Fight over.
Jokes over now
The music is INSANE!
The stare at 0:26 absolutely unff
bro this anime is a masterpiece
Actually, the height of magic is when Frieren's clone pushed Fern against the wall just by looking at her. So the title is a little wrong. At the end of episode 10, viewers got a hint of Frieren's power when she revealed the extent of her mana. But seeing that power used against an equally matched rival was like WOW! Clearly she can conquer whatever city she walks into.
It’s what I was waiting for. Just not in the way I expected.
This opening, just how it goes straight to it, is amazing.
The score's in this show, straight up reminds me of The Witcher's 3 OST, the medieval feel to both soundtracks are fantastic.
