NetPathfinder In the first game you can see in presentations Black Mesa's logo. Plus, in half life you know that they were competing very hard and then there is the borealis that was lost, so a lot is going on.
It's more likely that it's set 20 years after when you take into account of the rate of decay and how much of the facility is destroyed, much of the vegetation likely came in from the massive gaping hole in GLaDOS' chamber and you can tell it hasn't been ridiculously long with the intact state of the shed entrance and how the papers, computers and walls are completely fine, personally i like to think that the sequence with Chell waking up years after to a ruined and different world was intended as a parallel to the introduction of Half-Life 2. And as we all know, the Resonance Cascade and 7 Hour War were events of apocalyptic significance beyond any control, and the Aperture emergency announcer did allude to something going on outside, GLaDOS knew what happened during Portal 1, it makes sense time-line wise. Proof that GLaDOS still has Caroline in her: The whole point of GLaDOS letting Chell go was - "You're too hard to kill, gtfo" But once you're in the elevater with the turrents aiming at you, they don't shoot; which proves that GLaDOS (or Caroline) intentionally spared her life
I have to admit, whenever I hear this I get misty eyed and feel like I'm going to cry. The song is absolutely beautiful and the whole game is like an emotional roller coaster. Portal 1 and 2 are the best games Valve ever made!
I like the start when you first meet the four turrets. They like: Turret 4: Aw yeah we finally got her! Turret 3: *sighs* it's over, man...*plays violin* Turret 1 and 2 joins in Turret 4: Uh guys? She's escaping! Guys? GUYS!
i don’t know if anyone else gets overwhelmed listening to this, something about the nostalgia i have with this game just brings me close to tears every single time i hear it without fail, i wish life was as good as it was when i played portal 2 for the first time again
That's part of it for me, I'd like to be like 15 years younger again for sure. The other part of it is just the grief of an ending. We all feel it, and the better an experience is the sadder it is for us when it ends. It's why we always beg for sequels & spinoffs & continuations for everything even though a lot of times it amounts to figurative necromancy. Portal 2 is a masterwork. It's not just a video game, it's near the peak of fictional media ever created. It tells a perfect story, it sticks around for the perfect amount of time and it ends with the kind of flourish that tells you that the people making it enjoyed every single moment of it. The sadness I feel is a longing for that first experience. I wish I could make myself play this game for the first time again. I hope I didn't take any of the experience for granted.
I remember when I first heard this song, I was 15 or 16, a friend of mine in a sick kids hospital wanted to play 1 and 2 for the first time while I watched, I decided to every single day, I remembered every moment, sadly, she flatlined as the elevator was rising before getting to the first set of turrets, when the doctors came in, for whatever reason they didn't move her body or touch the computer until both songs were done, I remember thinking that it was some joke but when the songs ended, and we went to space, I seen her being taken away, I understood the situation and to this day, iv never actually played portal 1 or 2 because its too heart breaking to actually play, because all I think of is her, even if its been 5 years, I cant bring myself to playing the games. I hope when I pass on to whatever awaits for me, I can say hello to her again, I don't believe in any religion, but I hope one of them is right, that theres an after life where I can meet my friends again.
yes, i am 13 years late, but just imagine you were chell, and you witnessed the turrets singing this opera to you with their mere limbs. absolutely beautiful
Caroline wasn't deleted. GLaDOS uploaded her into the Turret Wife and she was able to say goodbye to her daughter and tell her that it's a shame that she's leaving but at the same time better for both of them if she runs far away from Aperture Science.
+Team Rocket I think "Caroline deleted" thing was only a bluff. Like saying "of course i'm the same evil AI as always, so go now i'm in a good mood, or i'll regret it".
I want to say of theory, caroline was not even moved, we know that chell is mute, but if caroline is her mother, it would seem to be to make chell leave claiming that caroline is deleted, of course, cause in portal 2 chell should be able to guess who glados was, and without caroline, she would have nothing left to do in the place.
Thank you valve. From a son who has been going through a lot of trouble with my own mom. This made me broke down crying. A mother comforting her child far far away.
This part... I love everything in it. The way chell walks out, the turrets in the elevator, the time when you SHOT A PORTAL TO THE MOON. This game is one of a kind
Am I the only one that cried at the end or was sad about it? Because of Caroline (GLaDOS) and Cave being Chells parents and Chell had went through all that and all the other facts that happened and just ending it all as Caroline was (I think) erased from GLaDOS/Carolines Memory. Then the turret opera being about Caroline being sorry for putting Chell (Her Daughter) Through all of this. Ect.
Sion Kim I know right! With our little companion cube. At least let us go to the moon We've got the portal gun, what is she gonna do? Just sit there staring at it.
For more feels you should know the translation, Chell is actually her daughter from when she was a human, and when she remembers Caroline (Her) she recognizes her child
i remember i got this game on my dads pc. Was the first video game i got, couldn't have asked for a better first experience even though i didn't understand most of the references or jokes as i was young, this will always have a place in my childhood. Thank you Valve for making a phenomenal game, wish AAA still made games like this....
The orange silhouette figure running across the screen is not Doug Rattman. He's actually dead, if you read the comics Valve released for Portal 2. The story revolves around Rattman and how Chell survived and how she got into Cryosleep. It could be Gordon Freeman that's running around in Aperture, cause remember, Portal is in the Half-Life universe, so anything's possible.
I lack the words to fully explain how much the portal games, and this ending in particular, affected me. I finished portal two close to the end of high school and it’s ending parallels the sensation I felt at the end of being thrust out into a world that’s very different from what you’ve known until then. There’s a bit of Plato’s allegory of the cave to it
This song is simply incredible. Like many of you, I thought Glados had finally played their final trick, but no, and then the music begins. One detail is that my native language is Portuguese, so it simply gave me goosebumps listening to Italian and understanding much of the context of the song since to a certain extent the Italian language is quite "intelligible" for a Brazilian.

Plus, in half life you know that they were competing very hard and then there is the borealis that was lost, so a lot is going on.
+MrJason005 Isn't Portal 2 set like, 50,000 years after Portal 1?
Logically, that's also 50,000 years after Half-Life.
So, if we take that into account:
Gordon Freeman mustn't have f*cked up Half-Life 3!

Proof that GLaDOS still has Caroline in her:
The whole point of GLaDOS letting Chell go was - "You're too hard to kill, gtfo"
But once you're in the elevater with the turrents aiming at you, they don't shoot; which proves that GLaDOS (or Caroline) intentionally spared her life
I want this on my funeral
years later, and this still makes me cry
Same.
I have to admit, whenever I hear this I get misty eyed and feel like I'm going to cry. The song is absolutely beautiful and the whole game is like an emotional roller coaster. Portal 1 and 2 are the best games Valve ever made!
i have a scene inspired by the turret opera in my book and i cried while writing it
@@aosevenvultures5368 That's kinda weird.
@@dillis2188no it's not lmao
Glados is a beautiful singer.
*****
Is she the turret qween? cuz her husband is the animal king
Siti Lula queen not qween
***** But... the lyrics are clearly from GlaDos to Chell. Even if she's not actually singing, she's the one who wrote the lyrics (cannonically).
@@iod353iw the voice actor for Glados is also the prima donna turret.
She sings the opera
Ellen McLain
After years of not hearing this song, all I could do is tear up.
It has been 13 years and we’re not getting any younger
This really got me emotional, because I got so connected to GLaDOS and Wheatley, and I didn't want it to end.
0:21 and 0:26
look closely at the background! the companion cube is going through the pipes! :D
Yes I saw that cube 🙂
I thought that was an animal and got scared
Yeah I was too focused in the song when I finished the game, and couldn't pay attention to that detail. Thank you :'D
People theorize that's Ratmann trying to escape with the cube, it's actually the cube turrets Wheatley created.
Who knew robots who would kill me would give such feels
Making New Channel :(... Read my About page. TRUE
Still a epic sight that an army of machines can come together to sing chell goodbye.
I like the start when you first meet the four turrets. They like:
Turret 4: Aw yeah we finally got her!
Turret 3: *sighs* it's over, man...*plays violin*
Turret 1 and 2 joins in
Turret 4: Uh guys? She's escaping! Guys? GUYS!
Those four turrets are actually design to play music. If you saw the easter egg, you'll know this.
pretty sure they heard from Glados already. Plus the other turrets too
12 years... and it still brings me tears :_D
i felt sad when portal 2 ended
Didn’t we all.
i don’t know if anyone else gets overwhelmed listening to this, something about the nostalgia i have with this game just brings me close to tears every single time i hear it without fail, i wish life was as good as it was when i played portal 2 for the first time again
Its been 12 years, i finished game 7 or 8 times, thanks for good childhood portal 2...
Omg ikr Its litteraly my childhood
To this day, this is still one of my favorite game endings.
ye.
1st.
2nd is undertale. (don't be mad. I'm just a bit of a fan for now.)
I've never played undertale haha, maybe I should.
@@ae-wl3py
Undertale has three so really
1portal 2
2 undertale [ pacifist ending?]
3 undertale [ neutral?]
4 (something else or[undertale genocide?])
Shit makes me cry everytime because as of now, it’s really the end.
It has been over 13 years, and this game is still one of my favorite valve games. "MIA CARA ADIO"
To this day this is one of the most memorable gaming moments to me and portal will always have a special place in my heart
yes, i am 13 years late, but just imagine you were chell, and you witnessed the turrets singing this opera to you with their mere limbs. absolutely beautiful
In the song “want you gone” GLaDOS says “now little Caroline is in here too”
This makes no sense to me sry
Even after 10 years this song hits hard as a truck 😢 golden game
1:00
I like to think that the moving turret in the background is actually Doug Rattman secretly leaving the facility.
Sorry bro, that's a frakenturret
He knows, he just wants to believe. I think of it as Doug too.
Bruh, that’s a frankenturret or cube turret
@@Swivelbot Did you not read? He knows, but wants to think that it's doug leaving,
*"Wow, the new Samsung Galaxy Home smart speaker looks awesome"*
ِ *Slow clap*
I would buy that, even if it cost 100$
Am I the only one that cried at the end or was sad about it? Because of Caroline (GLaDOS) and Cave being Chells parents and Chell had went through all that and all the other facts that happened and just ending it all as Caroline was (I think) erased from GLaDOS/Carolines Memory. Then the turret opera being about Caroline being sorry for putting Chell (Her Daughter) Through all of this. Ect.
Nope you are not alone.
The ending would have been better if you could walk a bit through the golden fields. Just a little bit of freedom for the play :)
Sion Kim I know right! With our little companion cube. At least let us go to the moon We've got the portal gun, what is she gonna do? Just sit there staring at it.
Everytime I hear the turret Opera and the ending song of portal 2 I cry... No games nor movies made me feel like that.
There is no way in hell they are her parents unless she is adopted.
0:01 *Has flashbacks of dealing with Combine Turrets*
I thought glados betrayed me and i was gonna have to go through one more fight. Then they sang.
They do not make games like this anymore.... they had so much. Love, character, and just plain entertainment. An era of gaming that truly was amazing
I accidentally figured out how to play this on my clarinet
This actually made me cry.
I DON'T WANT YOUR FREEDOM GLADOS PUT ME BACK IN THE FUCKING CHAMBERS
For more feels you should know the translation, Chell is actually her daughter from when she was a human, and when she remembers Caroline (Her) she recognizes her child
00:11 I still always get chills from that part. Such a lovely song/.
i remember i got this game on my dads pc. Was the first video game i got, couldn't have asked for a better first experience even though i didn't understand most of the references or jokes as i was young, this will always have a place in my childhood. Thank you Valve for making a phenomenal game, wish AAA still made games like this....
This always made me cry
I was sitting in the living room at 2am crying....
The orange silhouette figure running across the screen is not Doug Rattman. He's actually dead, if you read the comics Valve released for Portal 2. The story revolves around Rattman and how Chell survived and how she got into Cryosleep. It could be Gordon Freeman that's running around in Aperture, cause remember, Portal is in the Half-Life universe, so anything's possible.
tell me when? the orange silhouette figure appeared?
Wait when
I want this to be played at my funeral. It’s my most memorable song in any game I have ever played and it should be praised more for it’s place.
I lack the words to fully explain how much the portal games, and this ending in particular, affected me. I finished portal two close to the end of high school and it’s ending parallels the sensation I felt at the end of being thrust out into a world that’s very different from what you’ve known until then. There’s a bit of Plato’s allegory of the cave to it
I've cried at this song since this is so beautiful
This song is simply incredible.
Like many of you, I thought Glados had finally played their final trick, but no, and then the music begins.
One detail is that my native language is Portuguese, so it simply gave me goosebumps listening to Italian and understanding much of the context of the song since to a certain extent the Italian language is quite "intelligible" for a Brazilian.
I like how 3 turrets are singing and the fourth one is making sure you’re not doing anything stupid
13 years later and this is still the best portal song

A Frankenturret (the cube-turret hybrids) can be seen near the back on the opera on the right, on the same level as the prima Donna turret.
I never noticed this buy you can see one of those fucked up walking turret cubes Wheatley made limping around in the back right behind the small turrets lol
I CRIED IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL T-T

Best ending to a video game ever made. So beautifully made. And I love the hints aswell haha.
7 years have passed. And still, every time i visit this video, it hurts like hell...
I didn't know the animal king turret even existed! I am currently playing Portal 2 and I thought Aperture just made that up!
Truly the mysteries of the world seen through the eyes of a Nintenyearold are wonders to behold.

Having never played this game, I can still admire the music!

@@ggs27 I really, really wish I had time, but I work as a teacher primarily and just found out that all of my planned face-to-face classes for the fall will now be online, so I am having to switch weeks worth of lectures to online versions in less than two months. So, my video game time is pretty much limited to playing a song or two in Rock Band when I take a short break.

So, i'm just thinking that king turret is Cave Johnson
I beat the game yesterday and I was laughing when Glados was talking more shit and let me go, but when I saw those turrets I instantly lost my smile and said “aaahhhh fuck”. Then it started singing and I was tearing up cause it caught me by surprise and I loved it so much.
Anyone here from the Steam Deck demo's ending? What a flood of nostalgia
i love the epic bass in background
or should i say that big mother fucker in the back
The animal King turret.... Don't forget it was a possibility he ended the world lol...
This game is a masterpiece and I want a third one in my life so badly 😢😢
This song shows a struggle between universes in the combine and finally a release. At the end you can see how the sky is blue again and crops can grow meaning the combine forces no longer can hinder the earths climate and the natural fauna has been restored. But there has been many permanent changes as I don’t think wheat can grow in Michigan
