I doubt anyone is going to read this but still felt like sharing this. My Nana died in 2020, when I got Portal 2 for christmas in 2011, it was the first game where she actually followed the story with me, because she knew how excited I was for it and only followed it bc of me. But I've come to realize something, while she may be gone, at least I still have the memories this game made and how it strengthened our bond even more.
So sorry for your loss. Just know, if your Nana was awesome enough to follow the story along with you, the last thing she would probably want is for you to never play it again. Whenever you have the urge to play it, your Nana will always be there by your side, watching you play.

@@jimmytheshadowleviathan7243 "One day they woke me up, so I can live forever." Caroline threw away her life for science, in a different kind of way, she has no other purpose. I quote from Cave Johnson "She's married, to science!" She lives for no other reason, so it makes sense it makes the difference between life and death for her. I'm not justifying taking human lives but at some point Caroline became GLaDOS and we come to the time where she lacks any compassion add that to the fact that she lives for science and is literally forced to test human subjects by her program. GLaDOS won't stop at employee life which btw, they're stupid. If I had murderous AI as a boss I'd make for the exit. Unless, well... they too live for science. In which case they live for science and die for science. And the fandom loves her for her sarcastic humour and sassy energy while being a sadistic robot killer. I like the little detail in the lyric where it says "when I delete you maybe [REDACTED]" when she actually said "maybe i'll stop feeling so bad" as if she wants to keep her true feelings out of readable records.
That's because she has Caroline in her A.I. now, so she feels more human emotions (and she doesn't like that). GlaDOS lied when she said she deleted Caroline, obviously.
E3 2019: A presentation just wrapped up for (insert game company here). Nothing happened. Then suddenly, the lights came off, and the screen went black. We can see a glow. The glow is getting brighter. The glow is a logo. As it slowly fades in, you see the Portal 3 logo. Everyone is cheering, and some are in shock, then text appears under it. It says "The Card Game"
Just finished the game for the first time today. This song hit me. Her mockery felt more like playful teasing than straight up insults. This is totally GLaDOS saying "Get lost before I get sad watching you leave." I love this game so much more than the first, and now I'm officially a PORTAL fan now.

Yeah, it listened to it again a few months ago, it does definitely sound like 'bad'. I guess my brain just wanted it to be a throwback to the first game.
@@chaihill1837 she was a human, cave Johnson told the scientists to force her to be in control, so the main body she was in corrupts anyone in it because it forces you to do stuff. So she is evil solely because of that. Like Wheatley was corrupted by the body too.
Don't worry, I have secret info on Portal 3 which has been in development since portal 2 released. The first part will be Chell breaking into the facility, and the second half of the game will be an incredibly in-depth dating-sim/life-sim/cozy game where you have to slowly romance Glados as your lesbian robot wife, trust me, I'm reliable.
I really believe that glados doesn't mean what she says at the end. Like how she says she deleted caroline, but then in the song she says "now little caroline's in here too". I think she doesn't want to admit she was your friend. She says it's too hard to kill you, but goes through the effort of disabling the turrets so they don't kill you on your way out.
When she says it's hard to kill Chelle, she may very well mean it in an emotional sense rather than a practical one. The feels are too much for my drunk ass.
@@tarkus9820 probably because she doesn't want Chell to comeback anymore, that's why she gave her companion cube back to make sure she has nothing to return to
I love the doubtful attitude she takes on when she says “I don’t need anyone now.” It’s like instead of informing you, she’s trying to assure herself of this. Kinda sad. It humanizes her.
Ellen McLain's performance of GlaDOS is genius for that reason. It's all passive-aggressive rejection of someone she really needs, and it's all about the tone and inflection, the biting sarcasm with the genuine loneliness somehow coming across anyway.
@@masterofmicrospace1820 It's not in the video, it's in the end of the game. Spoilers ahead!!!! You've been warned!!! Proceed at your own risk!!!!! Etc!!!! In the end of Portal 2 a few robots get sent out into space, on the moon specifically. The smarter of the robots (Wheatley) says the first line about regretting it (what they did to get put in space in the first place) the dumber one (Apparently some people have been calling him Spacey) says the second line "Space. Space. I'm in space." Play the game and check out the ending. It's good. (Sorry for being long winded)
I personally love how GlaDos shows at the end that she can kill Chell with ease, but still let her go. Even after she deleted Caroline, you can see that one part of GlaDos actually started to see Chell as a friend. A veeeeeeeeeeeery small and sick part? Definitely, but still big enough to avoid a last kill.
She literally said at the end if the game "The best solution to a problem is usually the easiest one. And I'll be honest. Killing you? Is hard. So you know what? You win. Just. Go." So you are wrong.
@@fourteensouls She says that some seconds before the "Cara mia" song from the turrets, when Chell could have been easily killed in the elevator. GlaDos could have deleted Caroline and killed Chell while she was knocked out too.
i cried first time i beat this game, its honestly amazing how attached you get to a giant fascility filled with turrets, secrets and has a bunch of sentient robots controlled by a giant rude jerk you can't seem to hate no matter how much she hates on you. Sometimes everything just aligns and it all just works. Good job valve. hope we can return to this someday. whether that be a new ip, or a refresher of old.
i think they should make a game where they build on how chell gets on with her new freedom. maybe clarifying how she survives. im curious to see if theres people or combine or something along that line
You know, that line "oh you think I meant you? That would be so funny if weren't so sad?" I feel like it was said in bitter irony, that despite all the hate and dislike, she really kind of was her only friend...
imagine a portal game ware you play as the rat man and have to stealth your way around turrets an cameras to avoid being caught and the dens are the save points
Good writing doesn't really have a starting date. Back when Valve made games they were just built different, cause they actually cared. Not a lot of AAA game devs nowadays like that.
One of the reasons GLaDOS fascinates me is because, unlike most rouge AI, she isn't just doing these horrible things because it's part of her programming. She WANTS to do it, and she enjoys killing people. She knows what she's doing is wrong, and the morality core was the only thing making her regret her actions. It totally turns the evil AI trope on it's head and I love it! What I think I was trying to say a year ago, was that GLaDOS doesn't think like a regular self aware robot. besides the way she punctuates words and sounds, she more or less seems like a person. The only thing that makes her seem like she's an AI at all is how she has a very calculated and logical nature and attitude; It's the fact that she understands the way people think, the fact she has sense of humor, and even capable of things like love and hatred that make her unique. She's not so robotic that she appears like an unaware machine, but not human enough that she seems like a person in a robots body. Sorry this was long, but you get the point. Hopefully.
Portal 2 will forever hold my favorite end to an antagonist ever. No double crossing, or random cliffhanger-- GLaDOS just admits that you've become a pain in the ass and she's over it. Honestly wish more games ended on that note as opposed to "here's the next big bad!" I don't want a new big bad! I want the snarky old one that was fun xD "The best solution to a problem is usually the easiest one, and I'll be honest: killing you is hard. You know what my days *used* to be like? I just tested. Nobody murdered me, or put me in a potato, or fed me to birds... I had a pretty good life. And then you showed up. You dangerous. Mute. Lunatic. So you know what? You win. Just go!"
Right? GlaDOS staying alone in the facility until the world ends, Chell wandering in the vast plains of Earth with pretty much nowhere to go, and Wheatley on space, regretting doing the choices that led him to being left in space. Pretty much a bittersweet ending, but still, a "good" one.
"here are your test results... you're a horrible person. that's what it says, a horrible person. we weren't even testing for that' :D funniest line in a video game.
i think the best was that one in chapter 9. you have just escaped from whetley(is that the right name??) and there is turrets you have to destroy wit a moveable pipe and if you get stuck between the pipe and a wall wheatley will say "very clever. veeeeeeery clever. except not! you are stuck! youre at my mercy, and i dont have any. youre at my nothing"(or something like that) and when you get off he tries to get you back stuck there and then off again and so on...
"Demand to see life's manager, make life rue the day thinking he could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm gonna make my engineers invent a combustible lemon to burn your house down!" -Cave Johnson
GLaDOS' master plan for world domination: deliberately shape Chell into a badass who causes disasters everywhere she goes, then unleash her on the earth.
MrPhinixa Portal takes place between half life 1 and hl2ep2. we know this because in the final boss GLaDOS says "Are you trying to escape? [Chuckles] Things have changed since the last time you've left this building. Whats going on out there will make you wish you were back in here." So yes there are people still on earth and GLaDOS knows about the combine invasion.
Imagine Glados as Siri: Person: "Glados find nearby pizza places." Glados: "Oh what a surprise, you're looking for food.... again. Honestly it's fascinating you can somehow consume more food than a family of five all on your own, and in a shorter span of time at that. Shall we add that to your list of skills for any future job applications?" Edit:: HOLY COW THIS BLEW UP! Glad people liked the idea and my impression 😂

+Tord L I'd say portal series and bioshock series are amazing. Why can't a good series like these be the next big thing? Sucks how a lot of great songs, movies, and video games are a thing of the past.
I just competed Portal 2 and now I feel very empty. Like getting to the end of a great book you can't put down and now I'm here playing this great song on repeat. Portal has to be one of the best franchises ever and I really hope one day it gets resurrected in some capacity.
“One day they woke me up, so I could live forever.” This line is kinda eerie. It’s like GLaDOS was always there, watching, waiting. Waiting to be put in the driver’s seat. It’s almost a bit like Aperture’s downfall. It was always there, awaiting the day it is awakened. You could say Icarus flew too close to the sun. They crossed a big line, with the whole thing of forcing Caroline into GLaDOS. This implies that Caroline was never truly “awake” and it took being placed into Aperture Science’s Genetic Life-form and Disc Operating System to realise that Aperture was taking advantage of her.
Caroline didn't want to be uploaded. This was all against her will. That's one of the justifications for her gassing everyone the first time. GladOS explained it about the core they attached to stop her from flooding them with deadly neurotoxin.
If any AI will end the world i want GlaDOS to do it. I’d rather want to die by a lovely humoristic AI than by something like Skynet or something like this.
MORTONIC actually there was a deleted song or well song that wasn’t used called, ‘Don’t say goodbye’ So it’s STILL DONT WANT YOU (Nah But I totally agree with you)
Mama Rosa, The reason why it used to be STILL DON’T WANT YOU is because GLaDOS used to hate you, she didn’t want you, but since that song got deleted, it’s now STILL WANT YOU, which connects with the idea of Want You Gone, because she used to hate you, but now, she still wants you.
I loved the ending of Portal 2, but I’d like something (maybe not a game, just a comic or something) for closure on Chell. Since Portal and Half-Life take place in the same universe, we could see how the Combine affected the earth, how Chell reintegrates herself into the world, what’s really inside the companion cube, etc. Valve probably won’t ever give us anything else on the Portal story, though which is sad
"It would be funny, if it weren't so sad" I can tell you a story about a stupid little boy. He moved to a big city in the hope that a friend would support him in all his endeavors, but the latter suddenly stopped communicating with him. And this stupid little boy was trying to make friends with another person by helping them study at University. Alas, friendship cannot be bought even by good deeds. I heard that this stupid little boy doesn't know what to do. He is completely alone and only talks to himself all day (although he knows this is crazy). People say that he wants to die, but is afraid of death. Funny story, isn't it? Too bad it's about me.
It feels like there is meant to be some continuation after this so bad to give more closure but hoping for portal/half life 3 is like wishing a billion dollars were under my pillow right now

[Chuckles] Things have changed since the last time you've left this building. Whats going on out there will make you wish you were back in here." So yes there are people still on earth and GLaDOS knows about the combine invasion.
Imagine Glados as Siri:
Person: "Glados find nearby pizza places."
Glados: "Oh what a surprise, you're looking for food.... again. Honestly it's fascinating you can somehow consume more food than a family of five all on your own, and in a shorter span of time at that. Shall we add that to your list of skills for any future job applications?"
Edit:: HOLY COW THIS BLEW UP! Glad people liked the idea and my impression 😂
Eating competition!
lol
I would pay money for this.
I need siriOS
I love this
I don’t know why, but hearing this always makes me sad
Matthew Carlinsky, Forever to this Day, She is still Testing and Testing 😊
Sometimes it do be like that
Same, it's like good tv shows, once it ends you want more, but you get really sad when you realise you'll probably never get anymore
smite and you know in the bottom of your heart that this end was necessary, but it stills hurt
@@C7007 yea oof
This was the theme song of my last breakup. So glad he's gone.
I remember when I got this game...
I immediately put the disk in my xbox 360. When GLADOS says "it's been a long time" that line gave me chills
I fucking love these games
both are good. but 2 is among the greatest if not the greatest of is gen. top 20 overall for sure only games from 7gen that is close is rdr, me 2 ,u2 n arkham city
+Tord L The last of us? GTA5? Skyrim?
+Geralt of Rivia ah damn forgot skyrim. also like to include bioshock, dark souls and smg(havent played smg 2).
gta v and the last of us is honorable mention. gta v is great w a friend and probably prefer it over tlou . tlou is great on grounded but hyped up to the skies and to many small thing bother me.
last honorable is da origins . not couting pc games like civ 5.
PS if i had to choose it would most likely be potal 2.
+Tord L I'd say portal series and bioshock series are amazing. Why can't a good series like these be the next big thing? Sucks how a lot of great songs, movies, and video games are a thing of the past.
Relatively unpopular opinion here: I liked the first portal a LOT more than the second one.
**finishes portal 2**
So what now
...
**look at lego dimensions portal level**
You're the closest thing I got to portal 3! Don't let me down
It was literally the first pack I bought and I played that shit like it would save the world
darn I wanna get my hands on that portal chell so freaking bad!!
Bridge Constructor?
A wild Portal Stories: Mel appeared!
P O R T A L S T O R I E S M E L
Unpopular Opinion: I would rather have a Portal 3 than Half life 3.
EDIT: I totally underestimated on how many people wanted Portal 3. Apologies
Your EVIL!!!
Agreed
His/her evil what? :3
AzureRathalos 97 IKR?!? I was just going to say the same XD
+Donejail you've never played half-life then..
I just competed Portal 2 and now I feel very empty. Like getting to the end of a great book you can't put down and now I'm here playing this great song on repeat. Portal has to be one of the best franchises ever and I really hope one day it gets resurrected in some capacity.
Same
we are all the same I guess...
Same , just beat it again last night
I love playing it every other year
Don't know how I always forget this dreadful feeling it leaves me with though
When I first heard "Still Alive" I thought, 'better song cannot be written.'
Then Coulton wrote "Want You Gone."
The man is simply a living genus.
He also made/created another song called "RE: Your Brains" It's a fantastic song, you should check it out!
“One day they woke me up, so I could live forever.”
This line is kinda eerie.
I think it's a reference to Caroline
@@anino7577 no shit
bro can you just enjoy the song
Caroline didn't want to be uploaded. This was all against her will. That's one of the justifications for her gassing everyone the first time. GladOS explained it about the core they attached to stop her from flooding them with deadly neurotoxin.
@@Darkran_240P we are multitasking
I literally cried when I first heard this at the end of the game. This makes me love potato robot mom even more, dammit. I miss her.
She is definitely not motherly
@@whiteface513abandonedchann8 That depends on what one's mother is like.
@@whiteface513abandonedchann8 A mother isn't necessarily motherly you small brain
Okay let me rephrase that. She's not a mom
@@whiteface513abandonedchann8 she is a mom
If any AI will end the world i want GlaDOS to do it.
I’d rather want to die by a lovely humoristic AI than by something like Skynet or something like this.
unrelated but i love your profile picture my dude 🤘
Valve can’t comprehend the number 3
Math: 3
Valve: this is beyond science
no its odd
Its cause 3 is too odd
maybe
Guys, The Orange Box has *3* Games
@Foxtrot Classified Half life 1 episode 1 is next
STILL alive
WANT you gone
YOU wouldn't know
We still want you portal and half life 3
MORTONIC actually there was a deleted song or well song that wasn’t used called,
‘Don’t say goodbye’
So it’s STILL DONT WANT YOU
(Nah But I totally agree with you)
Knew that but it was deleted
Mama Rosa, The reason why it used to be STILL DON’T WANT YOU is because GLaDOS used to hate you, she didn’t want you, but since that song got deleted, it’s now STILL WANT YOU, which connects with the idea of Want You Gone, because she used to hate you, but now, she still wants you.
What would be VERY irratating for glados is if the player you play has has Stockholm syndrome
No half life 3 JUST MAKE THE F İNG PORTAL3333333333
Everyone talking about wanting a portal 3 while I’m just here well aware a third game would ruin this wonderful ending
All we want is to know what happens to Wheatley. [joke]
@@FirstnameLastnamee i love the ambiguity though. having everything explained would just ruin it tbh
. w . I still prefer it tho.
@@FirstnameLastnamee Would be epic if Chell made an appearance in HL: Alyx
Why does this song strike such a strong nerve? This song brings me to tears every time whyyy
"Goodbye My Only Friend"
"Oh, Did You Think I Meant You?"
My life in 11 words
same
"It would be funny, if it weren't so sad"
I can tell you a story about a stupid little boy.
You okay now, bro?
_I stop feeling so bad_
[REDACTED]
Yep. Defenetly the GLADoS we know and love.
ron kokotov you have been liked
I don’t love you but I sadly know you
*_[DATA EXPUNGED]_*
When is that?
Glados shit, she’s here
“Goodbye my only friend. Oh, did you think I meant you?” Jesus GLaDOS did you have to do that
It would be so funny
If it wasn't so sad :(
Portal 2 is genuinely one of the greatest games ever made

I love this fandom
It feels like there is meant to be some continuation after this so bad to give more closure but hoping for portal/half life 3 is like wishing a billion dollars were under my pillow right now
