    Omggg thank you for this video AfrikanHairGod!!! I have a fresh twist out today and I will be following all techniques you demonstrated in this video for the whole week. I want at least 7 days. Also, I noticed you put on a plastic cap when you go into the shower. Do you find that helps with moisture? I usually wear my bonnet in the shower so my hair doesn't get wet. However, the shower cap has me thinking it would be more beneficial with the steam of the shower and plastic cap trapping in moisture.

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** Your bonnet is going to absorb moisture from the steam and allow it to filter to your hair. If you are trying to maintain this style I would recommend a shower cap because it will keep moisture in and outside moisture out.

    This video has saved my entire hair life!!! I don't normally leave comments on TH-cam videos, but since I am currently rocking my second refreshed twist out and it looks brand new, I had to come let you know that this video is the reason I'm able to do that. Thank you so, so much!!!

  • @brandydyer1880

    Coming into this video i expected it to be 10 days off of ONE twist out but you re-twisted 3 times?? I figured you might moisturize and then on days 8,9 and 10 you would do up dos.

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  9 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Brandy Dyer Yeah, optimistically that is not realistic. This isn't a protective style so your hair is constantly going against the environment, humidity, and exposure to your ends. So rocking a single twistout for 10 days doing nothing to it would be detrimental to your hair.

  • @TheNaturalmystery
    @TheNaturalmystery 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Okay love all the education and the dance at the end was an added bonus. I am going into protective style mode, but when I remove my braids, I will definitely try this.

    I am in my 9th month of transitioning and I find that my twist outs and braid outs have little to no definition at my relaxed ends. I have tried using foam rollers but that leaves my hair quite fluffy and reduces the definition even further. Do you have any tips that would help this problem? P.S. @NappyLife 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe I missed it but did you use gel at all?

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  9 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      NAPPY LIFE Nope, I don't use gel for twistouts. Believe it or not, gel is actually horrible for this style because gel is designed to dry and hold the hair into a shape while applied to wet hair. The problem with that is that 1. it potentially robs the hair of some of it's moisture because of it's drying effect and 2. gel hardens in shape when completely dried. This means that your hair will not only have a "rigid stiffness" to it, but it also has the potential to flake because when the dried gel is shifted from it's shape, it will break apart into little particles in your hair which will take away from the style and make it look ashy. Botanical gels like KCCC, DE Natural Curlforming Custard, or a Curl Activator gel will work because those are conditioning and full of moisturizers. However, they are full of humectants so your definition won't last as long as usual. A good cream-based styler with hold is good because it will leave you with the soft hold and moisture-rich benefits that you need for this touchable style.

      NAPPY LIFE i still dont know how you all do it. But I can't use gel unless I know I'm going to wash my hair the next day, or that same night.... I seem to be highly sensitive to it with flakiness and itchiness. Even with the good gels I get the same reaction.

    I liked the video, but you retwisted two mo' times and I'm thinking I only want to twist two times in a fourteen day period because I'm thinking it would be too much manipulation to retwist and I ain't got that kinda time for my hair. It takes me 7-8 hrs to twist my hair.

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      MrTidleyWinks You can retwist your hair as often or seldom as you would like, but, trust me, retwisting your hair like this isn't excessive manipulation and is actually beneficial for your hair in the long run for a few of reasons:
      1. You maintain consistent "fresh looking" definition
      2. You don't allow your hair to shrink into it's full capacity; which, in turn, drastically reduces tangling and matting
      3. You are able to remove accumulated shed hair, which again reduces tangling/matting issues
      4. You are able to better maintain optimal moisture balance in your hair, which will reduce breakage and split ends.
      5. It doesn't put too much stress on your hair because you aren't mechanically detangling it, you're in a sense just kinda keeping it detangled. Because of this you shouldn't experience much, if any, breakage so you shouldn't worry about that.
      A twistout is not a conventional "protective style" in a sense so you can't expect to go long periods of time without maintaining it because your hair's ends are constantly exposed to the environment so you need to re-instill moisture and protection for your hair. The most time spent on your twistout should be the initial 2 strand twists. I spent 1 hour and 40 minutes for my initial twistout. Afterwards, because you are twisting your hair in much larger sections it should cut down the time drastically. To do my basic 2-strand "retwist" only takes me about 25 minutes honestly. which to me is almost nothing if I can get 2-3 days out of that re-twistout.
      Also, I don't know if you have seen video #396 on how to do your twists easier and faster. But it may help you cut down on the time it takes you to twist your hair. Simple things like not parting with a comb or applying 4-5 products to every single subsection before you twist really cuts down on the time drastically. Hope that helps! Sorry for the long-windedness but I figured that others would have the same concerns as you so I wanted to be as thorough as possible.
