    Thank you for these tips. I’m currently unlearning and unhearing all of the constant bullying I got for my hair. I have tightly coiled hair, which I guess is undesirable and the people around me made sure I knew it. I have not worn my natural hair out not once last year. I also take care of my hair while in protective styles and keep a regular routine. I did big chop #2 December 2022 and today my hair is 1/2 to mid back. But for some reason, I’m just not confident enough to wear it anymore. Yet when I see other naturals wearing their natural, all I can do is admire their beautiful textures and styles. Keep shining 🫶🏾✨

The products I've been using are not working the same and on the journeyto cater more towards the natural ends. 29:43 when i rinse the kanekalon hair with an apple ciders vinegar and water mix, it tends to fix the issue. Even if I'm already wearing the hair, when I do an apple cider vinegar, rinse it stops the itch. There is definitely a lot of crazy chemicals coating that synthetic hair that you see once you do it tho lol.

    • @tiffanydaneen
      @tiffanydaneen 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Yes I do a similar thing I make sure to wash my scalp and braids within the first week of having them. Since I found about acv I have a shampoo with acv in it for the wash. Works wonders. I don’t mind the stylist using what they have to use to get the style done, but after the first week… I’m washing and conditioning my braids and adding my moisturizing leave ins and such. And I wash at least bi weekly while the style is in. And I don’t keep anything in past 6-8 weeks. That’s what saves my hair during ‘protective’ styling. My hair may look frizzier bc of it but I don’t care. I know what my scalp and hair need. 😊 p.s. I don’t get braids and such with added hair back to back just every now and then

    • @iateyursandwiches
      @iateyursandwiches 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @tiffanydaneen agreed. I mentioned elsewhere that I have a whole routine for protective styles that mimics how I usually care for ny hair. I definitely don't believe in being lazy just because you have a protective style. The only "neglect" that is allowed to happen with braids is lack of detangling. You need to cleanse, condition, and moisturize same as with your normal hair!
      People hate doing all that stuff cause of frizz but would you rather have damaged hair after you paid hundreds for a hair style less?

    • @no.6377
      @no.6377 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately that doesn't work for everyone. I did those acv rinses for all my hair and it still caused itching. Each time.😢

    Last year, I was shampooing twice and deep conditioning every week. My hair has hard time retaining moisture, always dry and breaking off. So weekly is not working for my very fine, high porosity hair. Right now, I am doing every 3 weeks. I really hope one day my hair would reach my waistline because that’s what I like. Don’t give up ladies on your hair journey.

    • @The.Whoever
      @The.Whoever 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have fine high porosity hair that breaks easily too. I use to shampoo and DC weekly. Now I shampoo and DC weekly and cowash mid week. Switched from raw oils to hair grease and I have no issues anymore. I do leave in, styler, grease, and style on those days and I'm good and moisturized from wash day to wash day which makes it twice a week for me. No breakage either.
      I was afraid this would be too much for my hair but it isn't. Your hair would tell you if it is.

       may I ask what styles you are doing mostly? Are you using a leave-in and then applying hair grease right after? Reason I ask is I've been doing wash n gos but wondering if I should switch it up and maybe do a twist out. With my wng, I use a leave-in and gel but with a twist out I wonder if I should do leave-in and use hair grease (per what Afrikan HairGod's suggestion) instead of foam to get a softer, longer moisturizing style. I don't want breakage just wkly washing n wng styling as it happened to me before

    OMG...i said that about the new braiding hair. The last time i got my hair braided, i had to take it out because my scalp started to burn and flake, which NEVER happened to me.😮 i started doing research and found that other woman using the kanekalon had this experience as well. i said that is it for me, and i have been wearing my natural hair since. Im starting to think they are tryna ruin us. I would not be surprised if we find out later that the chemicals in the hair will cause cancer.

      @ndidiamakaakpunonu1232 I tried that already, and it didn't help at all. So I went to a new braider who does not use kanekalon, and the hair she uses doesn't cause any reactions to my scalp. No itching, flakes, or burning. I'm not sure what vendor she uses, but the hair has no chemicals in it.

But in recent years, even with an ACV rinse and deliberately buying hair that says it's good for sensitive skin and """hypoallergenic""" I break out immediately and start getting itch after a week. The part about braiders doing the hairstyle but not haircare 😅 facts. I went to one after years of not doing that and fully regret it. Got a bald spot, which is my biggest hair fear (I've grown it out now, but it took 6 months for it to not be noticeable), and a ton of breakage where the parts were. The advice I got to maintain the style and care for my hair? No water because it would mess up the style. 2 weeks later I could tell something was wrong so I took it down. WASTE of money.

    • @ImDirtyDani

      This was something i noticed watching the videos. Hair be extra dry etc when they go to braid and their argument is they're hair breakers not cosmetologists/stylists. But will basically tell them to come washed and blow dried but no type of moisture on the hair because it "makes it hard to grip the hair ". And don't even get me started on that jam. I tried it with my niece and daughter and even myself. Baby that jar still sitting there it caused so much irritation

    I have low porosity hair and I wash my hair weekly and I apply leave in conditioner and do a few conrows while my hair is wet . I dry my hair under a hooded dryer and I leave the braids until my next wash day. Is this a good length retention routine or should I Blowdry my hair first and then do conrows? I don’t use any extensions just my real hair and maybe 4-6 conrows that I do myself.

      You should be able to do your braids in damp hair and shouldn't need a dryer at all. I braid on towel dried hair and the hair is usually mostly if not completely dry by the time I'm finished styling in a couple hours

It's allowed me to focus all that energy and attention that i would've put in my own hair into my clients hair. I’m not a cosmologist, but in my humble opinion, no you can’t. Silk presses damage, damaged hair even more. All that constant heat will damage the cuticle and eventually make it to where the hair can’t retain any moisture.

    This is all so confusing. You are a professional and yet there are other professional that say things like 'Wash n Go's " are the devil and you should avoid them. • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      You can't get your fruit from different trees and expect them all to taste exactly the same. It's only as difficult as you allow it to be. Many of the stylists that you are referring to ONLY heat style and don't even handle natural hair styling outside of frying hair straight so of course they are going speak against anything that they don't or can't do. If you really take the time to listen you will y tone holes and contradictions in their approach to haircare... Such as the fact that they need to trim their clients hair more frequently or have to do so many treatments to keep their clients hair healthy. My clients get trims 2x a year at most and almost never even require a deep conditioning treatment.

      @@AfrikanHairGod what you said is so true. One stylist was honest with me because she would trim my hair every time she did it and it wasn’t a trim (a cut) every week I got it done. I ask her upfront one day why and she told me it because she feel like short hair look good on me. She knew I was trying to grow my hair. At least she was ho eat with me. I stop going to her. Good hairstylist but now I understand my hair is beyond thick and most hairstyles don’t want to do thick, long hair.
      Other hairstylist I still friends with she didn’t know how to do natural hair when I with natural. I with natural before it was trending and there was very few hairstyles that know how to do natural hair. So I had to take care of my hair myself and taught my husband how to cut my hair, lol. There not a lot around here but I laughed it one the didn’t want to listen to me about detangling my hair a little wet. She got that spray bottle after a while of struggling with it (my hair can break a comb). Lol. I didn’t say nothing and I help her as we got though it together. I got that fine, thick hair that love their cousins and hook up with one another all the time. My daughter hair so thick you barely can see her scalp she stands not as thin as mines either. I start rambling like Joe, I done.
