    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Harmonica (Charles Bronson) has a flashback to the death of his older brother at the hands of a younger Frank (Henry Fonda).
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
In Sergio Leone's epic Western, shot partly in Monument Valley, a revenge story becomes an epic contemplation of the Western past. To get his hands on prime railroad land in Sweetwater, crippled railroad baron Morton (Gabriele Ferzetti) hires killers, led by blue-eyed sadist Frank (Henry Fonda), who wipe out property owner Brett McBain (Frank Wolff) and his family. McBain's newly arrived bride, Jill (Claudia Cardinale), however, inherits it instead. Both outlaw Cheyenne (Jason Robards) and lethally mysterious Harmonica (Charles Bronson) take it upon themselves to look after Jill and thwart Frank's plans to seize her land. As alliances and betrayals mutate, it soon becomes clear that Harmonica wants to get Frank for another reason -- it has "something to do with death." As in his "Dollars" trilogy, Leone transforms the standard Western plot through the visual impact of widescreen landscapes and the figures therein. At its full length, Once Upon a Time in the West is Leone's operatic masterwork, worthy of its legend-making title.

I just noticed… the moment young Harmonica begins falling to the ground, the sound of a bell begins playing… which is what his brother’s noose is hanging from. The sound of the bell indicates his brother’s death. Brilliant, truly brilliant.

Side info: 0:19 "Keep your loving brother happy."
In the German version he says, "C'mon, play me the song of death.", which is also the German movie title,
"Spiel mir das Lied vom Tod.". I guess if this were the original script, he'd say, "Play the song of death",
which is more fluent. Anyway, I can't decide which one fits more. Contenwise the German version sounds more mean and adds to the dramatic effect of the scene, but the original English voice and sound quality is darker and clearer. The German voice was mixed with hall effect. Worked in the early 90s for me, but after this comparison it's a bit of a bummer. Generally original dub is best.

Dude you got no idea, all of the best westerns where made during that period. Just look up Sergio Leone and Spaghetti Westerns. Excellent films.

I think he kicks him away to spare him the guilt and deny Frank the satisfaction. That's why he prays first; he knows he's about to go.

2 horses, side by side. 1st man stood on horseback, tied noose to the bell. Big Bro was led on 2nd horse, under noose and ordered to stand on the back of his horse. His hands were then tied behind his back and noose was slipped over his neck. 1st horse is moved away. 3 guys lead lil Bro next to 2nd horse and transfer big Bro's feet onto lil Bro's shoulders. Now 2nd horse is moved. 4th guy aims gun at lil Bro the whole time. Everyone relaxes and waits for Frank, while both Bros lose strength

As someone already stated below, in the german audio Frank says 'spiel mir das Lied vom Tod' which translates to 'play me the song of death'. So until watching this scene in the original audio I always assumed it was his father standing on his shoulders, not his brother.
