So far, you're the BEST instructor I've come across in macrame on youtube. I've literally been watching video after video for 4 DAYS, and struggling along, hating it, feeling frustrated. I'm a person who has been knitting/crocheting for 30 years, learning very intricate beading techniques, wire weaving, and more. I thought this would be simple for me...but for whatever reason, it's not. So finding a good instructor is important. I genuinely appreciate this little tutorial, and I'm excited to see your others as well. Thank you SO MUCH.
I really loved that you took your time , explained the knot and I could see what you were doing. The best tiptop me was the last showing how to several double half hitch knots.
May I share a tip that I just learned, today? If you need to undo a row of Double Half Hitch knots, you grab the traveling cord, where you started the row, and pull it out, then, you don’t have to undo each knot individually. The traveling knot will slip right out, since half hitches are a bunch of slip knots. So, it basically a reverse of your trick!!!!😃 I hope that makes sense!🙃💖
You are exceptional in teaching. All your tips made differences in my knot challenge. Never thought I would conquer this Thanks so much and I will be looking for more videos by you for sure
I have searched for days and gone through way too many fairly useless macramé tutorials where they play music and film hands knotting with no explanation of what or why they are doing anything. I was about to give up when I found your tutorials. Thank your for the clear and detailed explanations! What breath of fresh air.
I love the bonus tip. I’m new to macrame at 71 years-old. It kills my back!, so anything that speeds the project along is very helpful for me. Having found your videos has helped me steadily plod along. Thank you!
Great tutorial. I'm trying to learn more about macrame, and this reminded me that friendship bracelets we did as kids. It is the same knot, basically 😅.
This was the best instruction I’ve seen yet! As a beginner, I’ve struggled with this knot. You explained it beautifully. The Bonus tip was great, but 2nd to the instructions themselves. Thank you!!!
This is the first time I've able to understand what on earth is going on w this knot! The other vids I watched had me-may I say-all tied up in knots :-} This seems to me like a very easy knot, which, for some reason, is quite challenging both to teach and to learn. Thanks so much for figuring out a clear way to present it!
I have to say Thank you so much , I enjoy and understood everything you say and did. I am a left-hand so it hard for me to follow sometime. I will watch more of your video
I loved all of your video but, the multiple strands looped together before inserting your travel cord was completely new to me. Thanks for sharing! Take care, Paula
Beginner here as well. I have recently bought some kits to start learning macrame but I could not finish thw 2nd one - the last step was to do clove h hitch knots to tether all the cords to the dowel and thia nearly drove me demented and I was finally about to give up entirely when I found your fabulous video and the 4th hack was exactly what i needed. Noone else had covered tethering to a dowell! And your video is so clear and great Explanations. Thank Thank you so much. Your Outstanding video has helped me to believe I will now be able to continue with my new hobby.
Anna I tried this knot with five, that's 5, F I V E other videos & on my first attempt with your vid I got it RIGHT! YOU ARE SO GOOD AT TEACHING THIS! I HOPE YOU KEEPING DOING THIS FOR US!!!🤗🙌WOOT WOOT🙌🤗
I am truly happy to hear this, it's always nice to know that I can help people with something they've struggled with, even if it's just a macrame knot 😊 As for your hopes though I am sorry to disappoint you but I am not planning to do any more macrame tutorials, at least not in the near future. Ever since I've had my baby my list of priorities has shifted a bit and I prefer to do other things with my time now, such as cooking which is what my new content is all about 😌
Thanks a million . I always avoided the patterns which called for rows and rows of DHH . Nightmare keeping all the cords tangle free. Now such a sense of relief and elations. Excited and look frwd to making all those stuff that I so studiously avoided . Much thanks once again
Thank you! I have to say that I was struggling with this knot, mostly because I kept switching hands like you were talking about. I also wasn't practicing on a braided cord but went straight into a project with 3 ply and thought I would be able to figure it out on the fly. I got the square knots down but when it came to the DHH knot I stared at about 5 different TH-cam videos and couldn't figure it out. I am so glad I found your video because I understand it so much better now. I'm going to go back to my project and see if I can redo a few of them since they are at the bottom of my project and I didn't cut my cord too short to go back and do that. Thanks again!
I was so proud of myself when I learned this from you! I just couldn't retain in my head, how the heck you were doing these knots! I finally got it, and it made my life so much easier! Thank you Anna.
Hi, good morning, I am totaly new here, and starting a macramé for the first time. I just want you to say NOW I REALY UNDERSTAND VERY WELL how to make a double half hitch! Your tips are explained so well and clear! A'm a Belgian who lives in the South of France, so if my English is not so good, sorry for that☺☺☺. Now I'm gonna try to continue my mini owl that I've started, using your tips! Thank you o so very much! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩🤩😋😋😋😋
Hi Dominique, your English is great, no need to apologize for that even if it wasn't 😉 And I am so glad my tips were helpful for you! Have fun with your owl project.
I was literally driven to tears two days ago, I was trying to make an owl wallhanging, the pattern involved a hell of a lot of double half hitch knots, I literally lost count how many times I did a row, then undid a row, did a row, undid, it just went on and on and on, I could not, for the life of me seem to get the rows in any order of neatness. Then I had a thought, I took the project off the S hooks and worked on it laying flat on the kitchen work surface and I am pleased to say, suddenly it all clicked into place. I wasn't able to do the shortcut version, but that's okay, I am just glad to, at last, get a nice neat double half hitch knot. Why the hell I chose an owl pattern that consisted of 95% DHHK I will never know, but it worked and I now have no problem. I was even considering only using macrame patterns that didn't contain this knot, that's how insane I was getting LOL! I thank you so much for your tutorials, they are quality!
Thank you, this was the most helpful. I like the larger cord to practice by, great suggestion. But (and maybe a small but) I get completely confused when going in a different direction. I seem to have left to right figured out, but right to left seems to get me every time. Also I put tape on my travel cord so if I have to leave my work for a minute I come back to using the correct travel cord.
Oh yeah, I get the other side problem, I struggled with that in the beginning too. I think a big part of solving that problem is just simply practice. And the tape to remember is a good idea ;)
I've been struggling with this knot for a while, no matter what I did, it didn't make sense. It finally fell into place while watching your video, especially once I made the travel cord a different colour like you suggested. This made a huge difference!
Thank you for this quality instructional video - I found it very helpful. For me, holding the cord in the same hand was the "a-ha" tip that helped me see what I was doing wrong, and the second most helpful was the angle of holding the travel cord (this is also called the filler cord, yes?). I was struggling with this knot and now I understand why and also how to develop the good habit of one cord one hand. Can't wait to watch more of your content!
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for the comment, I am always really happy to hear that my tips are helpful. And yes, the travel cord is also called the filler cord 😉
Do you have tricks and tips on how to know how much cording to cut for different projects? Also, according to what size and type of cord makes a difference …. which is really hard for me to know. Thanks for being SO clear on this video above! It has changed how I do things! - Cheri
Yes, I do 🙂 Here is the video with tips on cutting cord th-cam.com/video/Eah8xMSfPyI/w-d-xo.html But it is always challenging even for me now after many projects to do the estimations really precisely so don't expect the same kind of magic like with the DHH tips 😅
Amy I am trying a beautiful pattern for the wall, but got stuck on the half hitch, just could not see how to do it until i looked you up again..now I have it thanks so much, now i have to see what patterns it can make by skipping and whatever.
I have noticed others alternating the working cord (under-over vs over-over) path with the travel cord. How do you know which way to do it?Are there different names? Thank you for making sense of these cords! My Mom used to do lots of designs. She made it look so easy!
Another tip is to pull the working cord to the back when making the half hitch knots. I was so confused at first because the knot just looked like a regular overhand knot until i realized if I pulled back when tightening the knot it fell into the right place. I chose a project with all double half hitch knots just so I could perfect it. Also it feels like the name is redundant. I prefer clove hitch.
@@cindy1274 I think I would have to see an example to know for sure what you mean but I am not (at least on purpose) doing anything different with the last knot so I hope that answers your question :)
Not sure if anyone will see this but I am stuck, I struggle with keeping the tension with the double half hitch knots, so I found a tutorial on reverse double half hitch knots, which is exactly the same just on the back side of the work. I can do that and it actually doesnt look half bad, but when I do it vertically, I struggle with the first knot, it doesnt sit right on either side and looks very untidy. How do I keep the first knot looking the same as the rest??
I know I am responding a bit late to this so were you able to figure it out in the end? I don't think that I am doing anything special for my first knot so I am not sure how to advise...
So helpful. I finally understand how to do this knot. Thanks!
You are so welcome!
beginner here, the information is wonderful and I undoubtedly will be back......
Great to hear that 🙂
Thank you! I'm a beginner, so I enjoyed learning all the tips in this video!
I'm so glad!
Beginner here and YES this knot has made me doubt my life choices! Thank you for simplifying this and the speed tip is great!!

Thank you for the comment! I am really glad to hear that my tutorials are helping you learn macrame, it is a wonderful hobby 😊
Thank you very much. Was struggling for one whole day until I saw your video .Bless you !
You're welcome!
Best tip was not letting go of travel cord. Once I did that, the knots were easy. Thank you Anna for a good video and great tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you! This knot has been making me crazy!
You are so welcome!
I really loved that you took your time , explained the knot and I could see what you were doing. The best tiptop me was the last showing how to several double half hitch knots.
Hi I am 9 years old and every video I watched I didn't understand and you now showed me how to do it thank you sooo much 😀
I am struggling with this knot. Thank you for going slower than most. Much appreciated!
Happy to help!
Fantastic technique!!!!! Thank you so much 😊
You are most welcome!
The best one for me was the bonus! Thank you you are the best!
Glad that one did it for you 🙂
Oh my gosh!!! This is wonderful !!! The last tip was best. One I’ve never heard. Thank you!!!
You’re a fantastic teacher!!!!!!!!!😊
Glad to hear you think so 🙂
Hello again, Anna. I’m here again seeing your videos!!!! You are a sensational teacher!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Ana from Portugal 🇵🇹 😊
You are a great teacher. Thank you.
I appreciate that!
You are an angel. I almost gave up on macrame because of this stitch. But you made it so easy and nice. Thank you!

FYI If that doesn't work you did the knots all wrong! YAH, I learned this the hard way😂
….unless you buy cheap rope with “bumps” in it.

The braided cord made the biggest difference 😍❤️
I have struggled for a week trying to master this silly (simple) knot and can't believe how actually simple it is now!! Thank you so much.
Wow. I thinkni finally got it!!!🤯 I've been struggling all afternoon, found this video and boom! Done! Thank u!!!!!
You are a genius!! I enjoy you much! thanks for sharing!

thank you so much for the video! I am hopeless at crafting and was struggling through a kit a family member gave me. XD
I have to say Thank you so much , I enjoy and understood everything you say and did. I am a left-hand so it hard for me to follow sometime. I will watch more of your video
I am a newby and found your fabulous video. The biggest thing that helped is the hint to keep the travel cord in your right hand. Kudos to you.

thank you so much!!! you are awesome!!!

Holding the travel cord straight across made me figure it out so much easier. Wish I came here first!! Thank you!!
Right?! Once I got that things got so much easier with that knot....
Loved them all. Very helpful
THANK YOU! I finally got it after using the different colored strings
I am so glad that tip was helpful!
Thank you very much for your tips!! ❤😊
You are so welcome!
I am new to macrame and yes I find this not very difficult . Thank you
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you. Love learning from you.
Abracadabra !!!! Thx for this helpful video 👍
It does seem like magic sometimes 😄
Oh gosh, I wish I found this before I struggled 😮for weeks before I understood with great frustration how to get this right 😊
I wish I could have saved you the trouble…but at least you have it figured out now 🙂
I found the whole video so helpful, but using the dowels as the travel rope is genius! I am a visual learner & this did it for me! Thank you!!
That’s awesome, I’m so glad I could help you 😊

Thankyou so much for adding the dowel. I was struggling to do it on a ring now it’s easy peasy thanks to you ❤
Glad I could be helpful 😊
Love the bonus tip. I am very new at macrame and am thoroughly enjoy and learning from your videos. Thank you. Your work is amazing!!

So nice of you :)
This was THE BEST help I have seen anywhere!! I LOVE the last great tip on doing the DHHK faster for long cords. Brilliant! Thank you! - Cheri
I know! It's the best thing I ever learned in macrame 😄
Great video. Very helpful for a beginner like me.
Really happy to know it helped 😊

Did you have video for coming back the other way so you keep going back and forth ?
Another tip is to pull the working cord to the back when making the half hitch knots. I was so confused at first because the knot just looked like a regular overhand knot until i realized if I pulled back when tightening the knot it fell into the right place. I chose a project with all double half hitch knots just so I could perfect it. Also it feels like the name is redundant. I prefer clove hitch.
You are absolutely right, I pull the cord to the back as well 😉
Can you give me any tips on doing the double half hitch knot using t-shirt please
I have a diagram which i find impossible,hope i can learn.thanks
Well I hope my videos will help with that learning
Best hint...hold travel cord I. Hand. Another question I have? Should we take cord far out on last knot or no.
I am not sure I understand what you mean with that question. Can you explain a bit more maybe?
The last cord on hitch not some have it go further out or should it be even?
@@cindy1274 I think I would have to see an example to know for sure what you mean but I am not (at least on purpose) doing anything different with the last knot so I hope that answers your question :)
Can you go the opposite direction?
You mean for the fast method? I did show both directions in the video...or I am not sure what you mean 🤔
Es porq tienen audiencia y si no nadie las ve y porq son pagadas ppr piqueton
Sorry, I am not sure what your comment refers too (also I am not sure if the google translator is doing the best job translating it)…?
Thanks for this excellent tutorial! I am a beginner and had really struggled with the double half hitch!
I am so glad my tips were helpful 😊
