There's a scene in Furiousa that shows warboys using a long board to swing from the roof of a truck cab to the top of the tanker, and I thought, "There's the beginning of the poles they use in Fury Road."
The movie was decent but with horrible character development for Furiosa herself. Since the moment she appeared on the screen AS A CHILD, she was already skillful, savvy, clever, fearless and levelheaded, thus leaving no room for self-betterment. Halfway through the movie you can already predict the general outcome of every action scene, therefore you are mostly viewing for the acrobatics and cinematography.
I wouldn’t say that’s “hOrRiBlE chArActEr dEvEloPmeNt” AT ALL for Furiosa AT ALL as that’s what’s trained and expected out of people from in her place of abundance as you need to be skilled to survive in that dangerous environment as soon as you can so Furiosa being able to learn that at such a young age makes sense and especially from where she’s from where they have the guard the secret of where they’re from as closely as possible from outsiders. You don’t need crazy character development for your characters in a movie at all times for their entire skill set as there’s more to a character than what they can do skill wise. This “self betterment” argument you’re making isn’t entirely valid as Furiosa develops in other ways! Just an explanation for WHY they are as they are and her psyche on how she views things and her interactions between people such as Jack and Demetrius. THAT is where the character development lies. Not in her skill set on what she can do. Lol bro. There’s more to characters than their powers, abilities, and skill sets. What you’re saying isn’t true on “hOrRiBle character development” AT ALL in the slightest as there was subtle development from her and the other characters she interacts. It’s not just the “action and acrobatics and cinematography” that’s there AT ALL! There’s more to what’s going on!
Makes sense, since Fury Road was originally supposed to be animated since he wasn't sure if he could do the visuals and action in live action. Obviously he changed his mind but it is interesting to think about
@@chibidakis1No... The moment Furiosa's mother climbs the horse, every bike crash, every car crash, everytime someone got shot out of a vehicle and so on and on... This movie was full of terrible CGI. I even though it was a totally different production crew that made it. It looker DC level of bad CGI.
Not really. In the actual film the vast majority is seamless and on par with Fury Road. Both had VFX in basically every shot but you notice just a handful in Furiosa which might have been rushed and those are the ones you remember.
@@JoeLancaster some day, when Furiosa comes out on streaming, or DVD, a person will make a list of noticably CGI scenes. Like Jack and Furiosa on the mountain. Or like what Jeremy showed with the bullets and Hemsworth. Or the entirety of Abundand town. But it is not today.
Miller is great at telling a story without dialog. Really respects the audience to be paying attention and actors to show what he wants. I don't need you to explain how shit is going all the time. In Fury Road their is the 40 minute-ish arc where Max and Furiosa slowly go from wanting to kill each other to trusting and relying on one another and they never talk about it but you 100% understand how their relationship is changing and its current status the whole time.

Furiosa is a great compliment to Fury Road. Perfect double bill material. Also, props to Hemsworth for perfectly playing the Mad Max villain we haven't seen yet: the verbose charlatan. I have to believe he went to Chris Evans for advice on achieving Maximum Scumbaggery, because Dementus is a glorious scumbag.
My cousin, Joi (Joilene), loved these movies and other post-apocalyptic movies and tv series. She also loved attending the annual wasteland festival in California. She will be dearly missed. If George was still younger... then yea he wouldn't resort to heavy CGI and in-studio location. I think Fury Road took a toll on him being in harsh locations all the time from what I read.
The cgi is only for background replacement. All the vehicle stunts are practical . He was recovering from a heart operation BEFORE he started filming fury road so he was a bit exhausted at the start
@@GrommoIt looks similar to the Fall Guy practical stunts with a smear of CGI over the top that diminishes them. There was also a lot of speed ramping that, while an intentional style choice, added to the cartoony fake feel of a lot of the effects.
I watched a video that showed the making of Fury Road .... It was indeed a nightmare to film, not to mention every other scene was dangerous and the editing was equally a nightmare. Yes it took a toll and was worth it.

I do feel like George Miller is one of those directors who often gets forgotten in the list of master Directors we commonly associate their great movies with. You have Scorsese, Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola, Kubrick, Scott but so rarely does George Miller get mentioned. I sort of put George Miller in the same category as a James Cameron simply because he doesn’t make a movie very often but when he does, it’s like holy sh*t! This is on another level! Miller is pushing 80 years old and is making other action directers look like kids playing with sticks in the neighbors backyard. I do feel like George Miller deserves to be mentioned more as part of these great directors.
You'll rarely hear action/sci-fi directors put on "greatest of all time", sometimes even Animation directors get more prestige. Which is funny because the core of cinema ia the ability to tell a story in moving images, even iver dialogue or any other words. The one advantage of cinema is telling a story in moving pictures, while books and other mediums focus on words. But somehow, cinemaphiles have forgotten that and the many of the public give more credit to directors that give dramatic stories, even if their actual images on camera are bad stories scene after scene.
@corvus8638 did she fuck. She didn't create the world's or the mythology of it all, or the characters, names etc. She herself has said that. Great editor for the first trilogy, but she didn't create the universe.
The CGI in the first trailer had me worried. Sad that it wasn't just the trailer. Still, I'll be seeing this. Sounds head and shoulders better than the drek Disney has been producing.
I thought it was a bit random to make a Furiosa prequel, but with a good director and good actors I’m definitely going to check it out. There’s at least going to be some soul to it unlike Disney
I was really worried about it too but the actual film looks leagues better than the trailers. The trailer looked like a rough draft by comparison, and I never really found myself distracted by it.
Don't worry, it looked great. There was only two small moments in it where I noticed the CGI being a bit off. It was a goddamn blast and Miller crushed it again! Worthy the ticket price 100%
@@vickie_g Yeah, I'm curious how much it will overlap though, because I don't know if George would want to many similaritiesto the game and movies. I was surprised when Chris was revealed to be playing Dementus, as I never thought we would get anymore on that character than what was painted on walls of his tomb in the game. Also, Immortan Joes son Scrotus is supposed to be in Furiosa as well, I'm curious how he is going to be portrayed.
Did you know Josh Helman (Slit) is playing Scabrous Scrotus in Furiosa? He’s redesigned for the better imo, I always thought Lord Scrotus & Stank Gum were sorely underdeveloped.
I've seen Fury Road more than a handful of times. Honestly one of my favorite modern-dystopian movies. I think one of my favorite things "Furiousa" does is provide more exposition on The Citadel, The Bullet Farm, and Gas-Town. We hear about the Bullet Farm and Gas-Town in Fury Road, but actually get to see them in Furiousa. I also like how the film directly leads into Furiousa rescuing the women of Fury Road at the end of Furiosa. Something about when movies do that is extremely reminiscent of playing a video game sequel, and seeing parts of the original game in the sequel. Outside of that, I watched the movie from home, and fell asleep numerous times throughout the movie, or was just generally uninterested, to the point I'd check my phone numerous times throughout watching. I could watch old movies all day and all night, I'm particularly fond of movies that I've already seen. I could easily watch movies, knowing what happens, when it happens, how it happens, etc and stay interested, so long as it's a good watch. So, for me to be that uninterested with the world telling of Furiosa...well... it kind of made me disappointed. I can't put my finger on my disappointment with the film either. I don't have a problem with female-lead performances. Most series' and movies coming showcasing this "strong female lead" stuff taking Hollywood by storm, are doing it all wrong. They diminish the entire franchise, in order to bolster up an average female character, at the cost of the entire series. Furiosa did the opposite, in that they have this bad-ass world, and the female character grows to the world, if that makes sense. Maybe it's just that my expectations were too high? I think what the series needed was a sequel - not a prequel. Anywho, regardless - It's sad to see that this film flopped as hard as it did. It more than likely means we'll never see a return to this iteration of the Mad-Max world.
Kinda felt the same after watching it. I like it but didn't love it like Fury Road. It hard to point out way? I kinda felt like the other characters were more interesting then Furiosa. With the ending. I kinda think they made Furiosa a psycho with the ending with the tree. It a good movie and maybe a movie I will like more rewatching. I loved the middle action scene with the flying and chase. That my favorite action scene of the movie.
Man, hearing about the CGI is such a letdown. I'm sure it's going to be a super fun film, but the practical stunts and effects were such a breath of fresh air in Fury Road.
I knew it would be bad the moment I saw the trailer. Everything that made FR what it was seemed gone and the movie just looked lame with the generic CG
@@amy_yoshikawa Fury Road has some very obvious CGI, but that doesn't change the fact it's one of the best action films ever made. If the movie is good and pulls you in, you won't be paying attention to the quality of the digital effects.

Solid, fair review. Unfortunate about the overuse of greenscreen compared to Fury Road, but still very excited to see this in theaters. Fury Road was fantastic, but nice to see a little more of a narrative this time around. I also can't see how a movie this involved could be under two hours let alone 90 minutes.

Just watched the movie, the cgi isnt that bad, its actually cool, been so long to see a movie that makes you feel immersive. Only down part is the story is way to long, action scenes needs a little more kick, overall its a great movie.
I enjoyed it. Probably more than the average viewer because every month my dad would have a Mad Max day. Only had one disappointment with Fury Road and that’s casting Hardy. But overall 10/10. Furiosa unfortunately came out at a time when outrage is a thing. Really love it. Very very impressed. True Mad Max fans like myself just want to explore that world regardless of whose story is being told. The PS4 game actually explains the lore deeper than the movie. But I’m noticing that the majority of comments came from casual movie goers not fans of the franchise. It’s sad because they’ve missed out on a very good story with a better revenge satisfaction than any movie I’ve ever seen.
@@qobikwezi656 Yes, i loved how much more they leaned into the aspects of the games when there are action scenes. but it felt too long, actions needed a little more umph.
Personally I don't have any interest in watching this movie. I'll probably check it out one day when I don't have anything to watch at the house when it's on streaming. Really wish we had got more Tom Hardy as Mad Max.
I really love the middle of the move, it has all the best actions. But the ending could be better. I hope there is a big final battle between Immortal Joe and Dementus' army. But they just skip the whole scene with script and a few scene. The overall the movie is great. I watched it in 4dx. I hope there will be a next Mad Max movie!

my only critique of this movie was the CGI, completely agree it takes you out of the action. it’s SOO obvious. it bothered me early upfront. but i think the movie overall captured my attention far stronger than fury road.
This movie was just a switch-bate again. They change Mel and Tom with annoying actress that try to act like Mel and Tom. We are in the era of remaking everything and change the hero with women or black people. But why nobody makes WHITE BLADE, Alien movie with male hero. Many people will say i am racist, but how the fuck i am racist if my all my favorite movies connected with Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes and Denzel. FCK this movie. I am like you, i preffer to watch Mel or even Tom Hardy's version of Mad Max than this pure garbage
...it's comin...just you wait...they'd be fools to pass up the opportunity...I say we can get a Water World one too...same gameplay, different world...
Imagine a Furiosa game, with her arm being upgradable for melee, the war rig with a full convoy of war boys, all her hairstyles and outfits, etc. it probably couldn’t be canonical but neither was the first game.
A little late to the party since I just saw this film and I’m giving it a 7/10, its a good movie but nowhere near as good as fury road. The CGI makes some action scenes look weird, the overall looks of the movie is to clean instead of the gritty nature of FR, the main villian is not memorable, Furiosa being a bad ass since birth makes her having 0 character development, the love interest of furiosa had no chemistry with her whatsoever in their robotic relationship, the death of said love interest had no impact for the viewer and for the main character, the war that was hyped ended up being skipped, the ending was VERY anti climatic it felt like it dragged for way too long and felt super lame, the action is scarse and far between, the movie also doesn’t make clear any sense of time, how many days it took furiosa to get ready to take out the villian for example, and finally, there were some plot holes which I dont know how you can leave plot holes in such a basic story like this one but okay.
I'm just angry they made a Mad Max movie that's not about Max. Why not just call it something else. I wanted to see more of Tom Hardy's Max..... That said I'll give it a watch for Chris Hemsworth.
Mad Max 1 was supposed to be about an EMT loosing his sanity after loosing patients, friends and family. But his profession was changed to an MFP cop since it was unrealistic to have an EMT’s family be targeted by criminals.
I had the exact some thought while watching this movie! The way everything’s just sorta thrown together and still miraculously works reminds me of 40k Orks.

What you’re saying isn’t true on “hOrRiBle character development” AT ALL in the slightest as there was subtle development from her and the other characters she interacts.
It’s not just the “action and acrobatics and cinematography” that’s there AT ALL! There’s more to what’s going on!

The CGI is so clean it looks like it was made by one of those Ai image enhancers. Completely breaks the "post apocalyptic wasteland" immersion tbh
this is my main gripe... but there are others.
The only immersion breaking scene was a dog scene. Every other CGI scene seemed seamless
OMG JEREMY!!! I fell off the couch I laughed so hard when you did bane. Wow! You are so entertaining!!!!
Him and Genndy Tartakovsky are both great at doing minimal dialogue with maximum impact.
Can you please explain the story for me. Can't find it online. And yes, I have watched the movie. Both of them.

Furiosa is a great compliment to Fury Road. Even if you've seen Fury Road already, seeing Furiosa made me go home to watch it again because hell I'd just seen them set it all up time to watch Fury Road knock em all down again.

People sleeping on Jeremy so much, dude’s selling mattresses
Sigh
@@franciscopozole George has used speed ramping on every single mad max film in every action sequence. Its his style. Why change?

I love both of these movies but this one has a few bad CGI moments that stood out so much because everything else looked so good
I do feel like George Miller is one of those directors who often gets forgotten in the list of master Directors we commonly associate their great movies with.
True 🎉
He's like the post apocalypse Leone.
@corvus8638 joke of a comment. One of the greatest world builders of cinema.
They need to make a part 3! I loved these movies! 😎🏜
The Mad Max game is great and a must play for anyone who wants to experience more of this world
A very underrated game. I'm very curious, if George makes a prequel for Max next, how similar it will be to the game.
@@calvinmartin1305 A lot of the game's lore was supposedly based on Miller's notes and unused story boards. So, there might be significant overlap
Man I went through a period of my life where I played it non stop almost for a month. Fantastic.
Did you know Josh Helman (Slit) is playing Scabrous Scrotus in Furiosa? He’s redesigned for the better imo, I always thought Lord Scrotus & Stank Gum were sorely underdeveloped.
Love your insights on Furiosa, definitely going to check it out now.
I think that's Jeremy's being nitpicky. Most early reviews said it looked great almost most part.

I need Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga now!
My hype is sky high!
I enjoyed it more than Fury Road but it was still kind of a struggle for me.
I'm not used to Jeremy having humans legs...

@@ultraviolet540 no it doesnt look better. just rewatched fury road after seeing furiousa.
