    I totally get where Jenny is coming from here. If I was in her situation I would most definitely not be impressed with Claire. But I really think in some ways she's over reacting because she's very hurt. It's obvious how much family is to her (and all the Frasers for that matter) and from what all she knows Claire just up and left them with no word. She doesn't know the whole story.
    I also don't like that Claire didn't explain that she had to leave for Bree's sake. I think that if she had told Jenny this it would have been easier for Jenny to forgive her. Because being Red Jamie's wife, a known Sassanach "witch" and someone who traveled with the Jacobite army it would have put Herself (Claire), Bree and the whole of Lallybroch at risk.
    No one here is completely in the right, nor is anyone completely in the wrong. Very frustrating and complicated for someone who knows the whole story.

      If Claire told Jenny about Brianna, how would she explain where Bree is now, and why Claire never wrote to Jenny and Ian from America to tell them they have a niece?

      What sucks the most is that this is not how it goes in the books at all. Jenny is THRILLED to have Claire back. She is angry. They do hash it out. But it's resolved in a beautiful way that this show just butchered.

    Claire's story makes sense a women in the 1700s who was the wife of a know traitor would have been running from the law makes sense. Sticking around and the family would have only caused them trouble. So logically it makes sense.

Can't we just sail to America and get her?' Claire doesn't think she will ever see Bree again... and Jaime isn't thinking about the fact that he can meet Bree.

    I think Ian had it right. Jenny is as upset about her feelings of being hurt as she is Jaime's. She knows how much Claire would've done anything for Jaime. Jenny must know there is more to it and she is upset that she isn't being told. Jenny had to know Leorghie was a disaster altogether. Who would ever push off Leorghie or anyone? Lol.

    I think its stupid she decided to use Frank as her excuse. Telling her about Bree would have been a better option. She could have told her she was pregnant, believed Jamie was dead and was afraid that her helping Jamie would mark her as a traitor too and that she left so the british wouldn't punish her and take her baby away. She could also use that fear for a reason for why she didn't contact Jenny all this time. Telling her about Frank means that in the eyes of the law she and Jamie were never legally married and his marriage with Laoghaire was valid.

      The way Claire tells it to Jenny it sounds like she was only married to Jamie from after she came back to him (1948 and onwards) not before she met Jamie. So the way she tells it, the marriage to Jamie would have been legal, but not the marriage to Frank.
      But to your point, I also wish she used Brianna and safety as an excuse, which in a way was one of the main reason to go back and stay in the future in the first place.

    This is s-o-o-o messed up. Book Jenny encouraged the match with Leghair, not knowing about Leggy trying to get Claire killed, and Jamie married her also without knowing, feeling lost and lonely. But Jenny saw Claire's "fetch" standing between Jamie and Leggy at the altar during the wedding ceremony and knew Claire would come to take him back, and that the 2nd marriage was doomed before it even started. Claire's return is not a complete shock to Jenny. (Jenny never tells Jamie what she saw.) But here, she just turns into a living turd and stays that way throughout the rest of the series, if they follow the books. I think it was a major mistake for the show writers to reveal Leghair's treachery as early as they did, and to leave out that wedding scene. Presumably, they will also have to leave out that great book scene when Leghair's treachery is revealed to Jenny and her family. (It's the only time I actually admired Brianna.)

      @gypsybeau 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      lemorab1 I totally agree .. this was a big scene in the book & they’ve changed so much ...and the fight , Jamie was much more aggressive & Claire’s lip was bloodied in the book & Jenny was concerned for her .

    • @michelleflood8220
      @michelleflood8220 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      lemorab1 they can still include that as it's not the resemblance to her father that make Jenny know her as Jamie's daughter but her resemblance to her grandmother Ellen Mackenzie Fraser that help Jenny there and it's only jamie that knows about what laoghaire did it's during that confrontation between laoghaire and Brianna that Jenny and Ian learn the truth so that's a scene that can still be in s 4

    • @michelleflood8220
      @michelleflood8220 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      But she does mention that in the next scene after Claire has given Jamie the penicillin when they are on the steps she mentions the fetch then !

    • @lemorab1
      @lemorab1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for your clarification. I thought, somehow, that Jenny knew that Leggy tried to get Claire burned at the stake and went head with the matchmaking anyway! After 15 years, it's hard to remember what order some events happen in, and who knows what and when do they know it. I hope that epic scene will happen. However, I can't see little miss Sophie Skelton reading Leghair's beads properly.

    I think Jenny was dead wrong here. It made me stop liking her character. One: She saw the pain and trauma Jaime went through when returning from Culloden. Mostly because of the loss of Claire. Two: It was NOT her place to call her brother's other wife over. It was none of her business, and it put not only Claire, but Jaime in a volatile position. Where's the loyalty? What did she think Larioge would or could do exactly? Plus she had to know being a married woman herself, that if there was no legal separation or divorce, Claire is still his one true wife. What she did was COMPLETELY inappropriate!!! Three: She didn't even give her brother a chance to explain to Claire. I could see if he had let the farce go on for days, but they had only just arrived. Jaime wouldn't have went too long without telling Claire the truth. One thing we know for sure about the two of them is they are honest with each other, even if it hurts. I kind of understand her being hurt that Claire was alive all those years and didn't reach out to her, but there was the aftermath of war in Scotland where people were being shot, hanged and imprisoned on sight for being remotely associated with Culloden. Nobody was thinking about Jenny's feelings. She went from being a badass to being a drama queen. Totally messed up her character in my eyes.

      Back in those days it was about survival for women. That's why she told her it was for survival. It was about getting the protection. She married Jamie for the same purpose, did she not? Protection. Jenny knows and understands this and also knows that a husband would have any right in those days to tell his wife to move on and that it would be a wife's duty to help make that marriage work for her own sake. This is the worst scene. I don't know any mother that would deny their own child, but it seems like she just threw Brianna under a bus. And given that Claire has seen Jamie as a stepfather (argh) to Laoghaire's girl's, she would be justified telling Jenny she raised Bree with Frank because she thought Jamie was dead. Doesn't matter if Jenny likes it, she would at least understand protecting your child. Also, they made it sound like Claire is on par with Laoghaire's, needing a man just to provide for her.

      Jacquelyn Dixon that is so far from the truth ! How can she explain bree when she is 200 years in the future without it sounding like a tall tale and no Claire and jamie aren't on par with him and laoghaire she doesn't need jamie she came back for love not because she needs him but because he's her soulmate !

    • @jacquelyndixon2788
      @jacquelyndixon2788 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Please! She could just say she raised her in the colonies without the 200 years bit. And my point about the screenwriters having Claire say it was a "matter of survival" makes it sound like Claire needed a man to support her. Jenny, in her time, would understand(and be more willing to forgive) Claire needing support to raise a child. I certainly don't see Claire as on par with Laoghaire. Finally, Jenny believes in Claire having the Sight (potatoes) so telling her she had a vision thinking Jamie was killed, or even telling her about the stones doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

    • @madamezimba1007
      @madamezimba1007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      No offense to you, but Claire told the truth. A woman who disappeared from her husband for a couple of years, comes back pregnant, and has a child unwed and alone? Sorry, but that was unheard of in the 40's, which was when Claire returned back in time. So yes, her staying with Frank was a matter of survival. You are looking at it through the prism of modern time.

    • @michelleflood8220
      @michelleflood8220 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jacquelyn Dixon she says this because saying she married for survival sake is something Jenny would understand and what makes you think that if she told her about Brianna that Jenny wouldn't wonder why she isn't with her mother ?

    • @jacquelyndixon2788
      @jacquelyndixon2788 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Still missing my point. Without knowing that Claire was pregnant, Jenny doesn't understand why Claire didn't return to Lallybroch to help and be with family if Jamie was killed. As for your comments about social norms, lots of women actually did raise children alone after the wars. My great great grandmother did.
