When Spain turned all Mosques built by Andalusians into Cathedral you hear nothing from these people complaining about it, so why are they so concern about a building that used to be a cathedral, a mosque, a museum, returning back to being a mosque? It was illegally converted into Museum from its Mosque status, Turkish just restored it Back to how it was prepared by the conqueror of Istanbul and that is a mosque. It is a legacy, an honor of the Sultan Mehmet.
I think what people are concerned about is the proper preservation of the building and the artwork within it. When it was first turned into a mosque after the conquest of what was then Constantinople, they plastered over a lot of the murals, damaging them. It was only when Ataturk redesignated it as a museum that the artwork was recovered. People don’t want to see similar damage happen again.

Turkish legislators and government officials took the desire of the majority of the people into account and acted upon their desires and passed the new Status that makes Hagia Sofia into a functioning Mosque again totally legal with all the correct parameters being followed according to Turkish law/constitution. International law is very vague on UNESCO world heritage sites in fact it is up to the host nation to make the necessary adjustments and provision enough money to make it so that it can be viewed by tourists from around the world. So many Christians can thank Turkish government of present and past for every year setting aside an allocated amount of money to take care of their church and the Mosque of millions of Turkish Muslims living and working in Istanbul as well as the millions of Muslim tourists coming from abroad to pray and see the Hagia Sofia Mosque.

I was here in 2018 that was my first time Turkey 🇹🇷 and I really didn't know that this was just a museum and not a mosque but it looked like a mosque to me after seeing it's dome and minarets. Turkey made a good decision. Well done 👍❤

We Muslims should not support Erdogan. I agree with some of his policies but his legitimacy is completely up to the Turkish people. What we should do is follow the Turkish model and Turkey as a nation. They are Islamic but they are also very progressive. They made the transition from a Caliphate to a nation-state very well. A formula other Middle-eastern states couldn't follow. they have adapted and overcome situations that no other Muslim nation has. They were the only ones who won their independence war after WW1. We should learn from their example. Either them or the Persians. Mark my words it's either Turkey or Iran that will lead the new Muslim world.
