    Ikenna's 5 ways to improve your accent/pronunciation in a foreign language:
    1. Start off using a program that uses audio from native speakers @1:26
    2. Avoid stereotyping! @3:54
    3. Read sentences together with an Italki Tutor @5:50
    4. The introductory paragraph trick @6:51

      record and listen to yourself, it is the ultimate test.
      also, you can have your own accent. like the word "literally" for me, it is hard to pronounce it like li-ter-rally, but more like li-tri-ly. although this is a unique word (have 2 common way to pronounce it) but my point is, every word can have its own way of making a sound. and another way might be easier than the one you are after. always remember the goal is deliver the message, as long as the person you talking to can get the message clearly, you archive the goal, doesn't matter how authenticate your pronunciation needs to be

    Great video ikenna! I feel like when learning accents its also important you pay close attention to not only their pronounciation but it helps when you look at their lips or mouths and try to sort of mirror that, sometimes even noticing little things that native does helps you to also sound more native, things like "uhm" or some grunt sounds or whatever it may be. Playing around with the accent is always fun by trying to imitate what you hear, i found that my immersion in certain things i watched and listened to often helped me in articulating the korean and french accent almost instantly ! Some words were a bit rocky but like Ikenna said, just treat it like you do with english, it all takes practice. Dont be afraid to talk aloud :)

I then upload it to HelloTalk and ask native Koreans to correct my pronunciation. They almost always respond with a voice message on that post which helps me hear any elisions I've missed, real-time speed goals, and vowels or consonants combos I'm still struggling with. For me, i have never heard someone speaking Japanese and went *oh, he's definitely Algerian* but i can easily tell if someone is American ! Same goes for english accents, French, Japanese, Egyptian and Indian english speakers do have quite a strong accent which i think is totally fine unless you really want to sound like a native (: you have to focus first on saying to words right and clear, then the accent isn't that hard

    when are you ready to start listening to podcasts/tv shows/music, etc. in your target language? i have listened to a few french videos and can pick out just a few words here and there. but i have only been learning french for a week, so most of it sounds like gibberish to me.

      The earlier you start, the faster your learning curve and the more you will understand. I started watching tv shows in Mandarin even before starting to learn it and now that I am learning chinese it is has helped me a lot. I was also listening to podcasts and the radio early on, when learning German and it helped a lot and today I am fluent in German. So start now.

    1- what do you recommend for kanji learning and writing?
    2- after learning japanese i am interested in catalan and kazakh but these are not very common languages, therefore pimsleur doesn´t have a course for this. which other resources may i use?

    Hey. Can you clear my thoughts? What is more useful: to watch TH-cam in the target language with English subtitles or with the target language subtitles?

    • @AfroLinguo
      @AfroLinguo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think at the beginning, watching in the target language and with english sub titles is better, because it helps you train your listening skills, which give you more confidence when speaking. You feel more fluent when you can listen and speak more, than when you can write and read more. I watch netflix shows in Mandarin with German subtitles. I am fluent in German and my target language is Mandarin and listening to it has helped a great to make me fluent in it.

    • @NetAndyCz
      @NetAndyCz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like Netflix.
      - Wakfu: great French anime
      - Miraculous: animated series situated in Paris. It is probably for younger audience and the plot is really repetitive, which makes it really great and easy to understand for language learners.
      - Dix pour cent: not sure why, but I enjoyed this television series.
      - Au service de la France: Just amazing French (spy) comedy series during Cold war... there is not much action, but the humour is great and it is quite surprisingly historically accurate.
      There is a lot more, I try to watch even English shows I have not seen with French dubbing, some of them are quite good.
