Ali Adat lol luckily i'm Moroccan so i speak Tamazight, Standard Arabic, Moroccan Darija Arabic, French, Understand Spanish, Understand Italian, Understand all other Arabic dialects, and i have been pasionate about English all my life through music, movies so I'm actually really good at it Cuzco I just engaged my self into it ! I think that's the main idea in learning languages you have to engage in them live them breath and think in them ....
i thought of doing exactly that actually xD learning spanish and korean at the same time i mean, but i don’t know if it’s a good idea? how did it go for you if you don’t mind ? :’)
A word about practice: "Practice makes perfect." ...is a lie. It should be stated: "Practice makes permanent." -- If you practice something the wrong way too long it becomes the normal and is that much harder to correct. So when working on pronunciation and grammar, get it right before moving on too far. Also, I'm a grammar descriptivist, not a prescriptivist. Don't learn a language mechanically via studying grammar too much. Children in their native language don't do this, you shouldn't either. You should be able to get the basic and intermediate concepts of grammar by repetition and mimicry; absorb grammar by pattern mimicry following native speakers. Focused grammar study comes later, like with a child in middle school when they already have a firm grasp on their native grammar -- then it becomes a matter of fine-tuning and complex structures used in formal writing.
Our brains are not wired like children's, so that logic is completely flawed. I think its plausible to do some grammar exercises and study the rules on top of recognizing the different grammar patterns in speech and writing. A combination of the two works great for me
Adults and child learn in a different way. You should read about "critical period" and you will notice it. However, I think grammar couldn't be the most important thing in your learning.
Me: Portuguese: native English: advanced/conversational Spanish: intermediate (practicing a lot) Italian: wishlist French: wishlist Japanese: maybe one day (the thought of learning another alphabet drives me crazy)
Honestly mood. I have been putting off my dream of speaking japanese and chinese for so long rn im learning french but to be frank i have no more motivation left in me.
oh learning another alphabet isn't that hard! i'm speaking as someone who tried one time to learn russian and has learned cyrrilic. also i'd reccomend going to omniglot they've got phonetic transcriptions for letters and all that jazz (also explanations on where they're used!) unfortunately though japanese uses two syllibary (hiragana and katakana) which could be hard to learn depending on how well you learn stuff but kanji (the logographic system that is also used) is gonna be a challange no matter how you see it
I live in Japan, and when my Bolivian-Japanese friend and I got excited or angry, we would switch among English, Japanese and Spanish, confusing everyone in a 5-mile radius. Lol
I had someone asking me similar questions in Starbucks yesterday, because they saw me having my Korean lesson on WhatsApp then after I was speaking to my friend in Spanish, while writing things in German.
How did you do it? Now I am learning french and I wanted to start learning Spanish and Turkish but I am confused about the time management between them. Any advice that can help me?
I'm a Korean and dealing with 3 different foreign languages, English, Japanese, German at the same time. It's hard to balance with them. I just take turns. The important thing is to keep doing and exposing to 3 languages without long lnterval.
Lele Luka yes it does sound very “aggressive” but it is a very beautiful language like all languages are yes some words like Krank it means hurt/sick but when you say it sounds very big like it’s filled with power but it is still a very nice language and to the question why do koreans want to learn german well tbh(i am korean) not really koreans don’t like learning languages that much koreans even have big difficulty even trying to speak English it is even harder for koreans to learn that is not English
Honestly, I just focus on things more if they are confusing. If I can't remember something grammar wise for Japanese, I will focus 90% of my study time on that problem until I am comfortable with it. I often find myself doing only Japanese for a few days then only Mandarin. And when I really don't want to study at all, I will do something like Duolingo for 5-15 mins in each just to get it done. The most annoying part is only remembering the character in the opposite language when I am studying. As in, I'll be studying Mandarin and I will only remember the Kanji pronounciation and not the hanzi. So I just keep going and read in Mandarin and say the one I don't know in Japanese. I am finished HSK1 and most of HSK 2 for Mandarin and probably 100% done with JPLT N5 material. Learning to forget is okay. It just means the next time you relearn that thing, you will probably remember it better. Only mixing up characters is a normal problem for me. But that is just practice
This line honestly cracked me up, "Alors, you have to have the same accent quand on parle le francais, do you hear how similar I'm sounding maintenant?"
The funny thing is I’m learning French so I understood that whole sentence but didn’t realize it was mixed with English and French until she said maintenant 😂😂😂😂😂
when I learned French and Korean at the same time I used to ALWAYS say Je m'appelle ... 입니다. and I still do so until this day lol I gave up on French after school but I'm fluent in Korean now. These days I'm learning Danish and I also want to start Japanese or Chinese... Thanks so much for all of your great videos!^^ I didn't subscribe yet, but I will do so right after sending this comment ㅋㅋ
Interesting to hear of these experiences! I started studying German in high school and (as all Finns) I had mandatory Swedish classes at the same time. With the two languages being so closely related, studying them at once did not work for me at all - so many words are similar, they might have a difference of just a letter or two, and I kept mixing it all up But now that in university, I'm studying Russian and Chinese at the same time and I have had no difficulties at all caused by this. I still think it helps a lot that the languages are not related.
Wow, i’m impressed👏 I am from Denmark and I have never heard about anyone who is learning Danish or wants to learn Danish😊 I myself have also had French in school but gave up on it and the same thing happend when I had German in school. It is kind of annying to spend so much time on a language you end up giving up on. Right now I am determined to learn Korean and hopefully I will complete that goal😊 But I am impressed by the number of languages people can maintain without being confused and mixing the different languages together💪 By the way, where are you from since you are learning Danish?😄
Great video. I would especially focus on your idea of "integrate the languages in your life". This is so important and crucial! People who want to learn a language only for professional purposes or because "it's the language of the future" get frustrated easily and give up soon, in my experience. Without genuine interest and passion you won't go anywhere.
Yes, that is a really important point! When I left Armenia, the modest beginning I had made in the language just stagnated. I had nobody to speak it with and I finished translating my favourite poems, so... I got stuck. Around here: th-cam.com/video/EkgVsAWMmJg/w-d-xo.html . ;-)
Usually I need two or two and a half years to learn a language to level where I can use it confidently and fluently. I never mix my learning languages, because when I focus on a language, I still want to maintain my already learnt languages (and learn even more vocab etc.). Also, I feel learning languages takes more effort the older I get (I'm in my mid-fourties now). When I was 20, I could learn more and faster, like I needed only 10 months to learn Old Greek to pass my Graecum exam at university. When I started Spanish, I was 36, and I needed 2 years. But the good news is that it gets easier when you can connect new languages to already learnt ones...
I’ve been studying Japanese myself and Spanish at school, and I remember freaking out when I found out that the word “bread” sounds the same in both languages. In Spanish it’s “pan” and in Japanese it’s “パン”
In Portuguese is pão, in Korean 빵 (you can read pang with a very weak g) and I can think many other languages that it's similiar. As Brazilian, is so weird to me that in English we say bread. Like, it doesn't match. Lol
I love the last tip about integrating the languages into your life. I only "study" about 45 min to an hour total per day, but I split that time up amongst the different languages. I find it easier to maintain my abilities by learning or reviewing each one daily rather than designating particular days of the week. Music and TV/TH-cam videos in the target languages definitely helps 👍
So true about “love hate relationship with languages” and I’m actually relieved that you said that cause I thought I’m only one who have those feelings while learning Korean and Japanese. There were a lot of times that I took pretty long breaks because I was just so frustrated and demotivated. But this year I wish to change and hopefully I will be able to hit my target in language learning.
Really clear and fantastically structured video. really agree with your tips. Also I'm afraid people don't stop asking you the same questions over and over even if you've made a video on it
Lindie! I came across your site as I'm learning Mandarin now (I can speak Korean and Japanese fluently, and am native in English and trying to learn more). Thanks for the great content, you're blessed with so much talent and I can see a pure heart that isn't of this world. Most of all I admire your faith! Keep up the great work!
It's funny because English and French are both my first languages, but I can't speak English with a French accent to save myself. My British father, who learned French as an adult, does such an amazing Frenchy accent that our French friends request that he does it at parties.
At first it's not about speaking a language but understanding. So focus on understanding and then speaking will come automatically. So you must listen to the language you're trying to learn. Flash cards, television, radio etc.
Wow, i am Vietnamese, studied architecture(master course) in Milan, Italy since 2010. But at that time my English still needed to improve so i didn’t try to study Italian when i was in that ocean . Recently, i try an app called Rocket and I got really excited about that, about 70 days continuously to study Italian and the memory about Italy come back to me like a dream. I have a full time job back here, Vietnam, but afternoon i study Italian when do exercise then till late night enjoy Italian movies on Netflix, listen to a song in “la Vita dovanti a se “ - a must watch, it make me feel so connected with Italy.Wow , like you said, it is a passion. I got an idea about learning some more languages when i read a sentence: “the more languages the more the man he is” in high-school, but till now i have some initial steps to study languages. Khi nào Lindie đến Hồ Chí Minh, tôi sẽ làm hướng dẫn viên du lịch cho bạn! Hindi, Spanish, Chinese, Janpanese, and maybe Hungarian (as you said with Vietnamese are the most interesting languages you’ve ever tried! Nice Chanel! Làm tốt lắm!
I’m learning korean now for 3 years & yes I can speak it comfortably, but I’m still so jealous of Lindie’s korean skills 😂 I still have such a long way to go!
Hi, I'm Brazilian, I started to learn English and I think that I'm fluent enough to have a great conversation with a native speaker like know I really understand the language, so this last week I started to learn Japanese and I love it. I hope that one day I'll be fluent enough to learn a new language. You're really helping me so thank you very much.
Hi i have been learning English since 15 December 2019 , and i'm going to be fluent in English by end of July 2020 actually i'm studying full time by myself i hope to achieve my goal in the exact time . i need your prayers guys thank you
When I was learning French I would fill in words I didn't know how to say with Chinese... They're completely different but I always substitute words I don't know in some other language my skill is stronger in
Where have you been all my life?? This is the best advice/reality check video on language-learning I’ve ever come across. It’s so honest, realistic, and practical. Thank you for this!
I watched this video last year while preparing to go abroad in France, and tbh ur tip on imitating the accent in my native language vastly improved my French prononciation. It made me able to recognise how French sounds are different from the sounds in my own language. So big props to u Lindie, I’ve lived in France for four months, and thanks to u I’ve been given some very nice comments from French people about my accent :))
I agree. Languages take time. Also, one thing I'd like to mention. To those who have watched this video as I just did. Don't learn a foreign language just because every one else is. You will end up hating the language. Learn one that you as an individual want to.
I'm learning Korean and Spanish luckily Spanish is pretty easy for me because I grew up around it and I know a lot of vocabulary and I understand the sentence structure but umm Korean not so much lol accents are pretty easy for me luckily
I just found this channel and it really inspired me! My native language is English, I've been studying Japanese for over 8 years and now I'm fluent and live in Japan. I started studying Korean over a year ago and would say I'm now low intermediate and was thinking about starting French but was worried about incorporating it into my life. This has given me a lot of advice and confidence to try! Thank you!
This was great and I can attest to that. I didn't start learning languages from the same family until after I was conversational in the one that I was focusing on first. I don't really mix them up and I feel like what you explained has a lot to do with why I don't
My mothertongue is french, I learn english and spanish. For english, I listen to 40 minutes of english per day, and for spanish I work a bit everyday on the app Busuu
Old but gold. This kind of eased my mental hesitation about learning Japanese when I'm not 100% at Spanish. I am very conversational, but good absolutely use improvement (part of the issue is I never use it so I've lost a lot over the years, but I'm still confident in it). Thanks a ton!
I naturally learned two languages growing up, in school I’m learning my third, and on my own time I’m learning one. Since I naturally speak two, and I’m comfortable with one, I end up speaking 3 languages at once. I just find whatever word is easier to say. My plan is to be able to communicate with all types of people, because when I was younger, I had to learn a new language.
Not because this has anything to do with the video but I’m already fluent in 3 languages and in 6th grade I’ll start learning Spanish. I’ll be proud of myself:)
Lol french and chinese wow you read me- im currently learning french but doubting chinese. For a little back story i actually have learned chinese before in school and i was fairly decent at it. But when i switched schools they didn’t have chinese and i had forgotten most of what I’ve learned. So I’m a bit worried about going back to it.
4:54 I speak 3 languages and sometimes I feel like I have 3 personalities. When I speak french I bring up the french in me, when I speak English I bring up the American in me, when I speak Russian I bring up the Russian in me :)
On the past years I been improving my vocabulary by the help of watching and hearing , movies vocabulary , letters , pronunciation is key writing down words , play with them , made words from base on a conversation , practice in you alone time in front of a miror , practice with people you get alone with 👌💯✍📝📂👁🧠👂🎶🔑🔄 you be madeking progress in few time ⏳👅 also if you notice the tounge it has alot involved on pronunciation , read , mark words you dont know the meaning of , and find their purpose of used so you improve you vocabulary one word could apply for diferent meaning beware on some languages be dedicated if want to success 🤖🧘♂️🙏 , life is about learning it never stops each day , get you self a dictionary 📚📖🔎 the only person can stop you is you self 💆♂️
I've heard that using language laddering (as I see you're doing from a newer video; learning Spanish through Japanese) is helpful in preventing that mixing and confusion you see when you learn languages in the same base language. I haven't done it myself but I'm interested in trying it. I took Spanish in high school, stopped using it. Then in college I took German. And toward the end of college I needed to learn a bit of Albanian when I went to meet my now-husband's family and lived with them for a few months after graduation. So all of those languages were learned with English as a base. If I forget a word in Albanian, I usually know it in German. And in rare occurrences, I'll remember the word in Spanish only! But I do know there are a decent amount of German resources for Albanian out there, since many Albanians have moved to Germany. I'm focused on learning German right now, so I think it might be feasible for me to go back to Albanian through German once I've gotten a more confident. It's confusing, but once I get past this bump I think it'll be pretty fun to learn in another language besides English!
You can also use a language you are learning and have reached a intermediate language to learn other things of interest. For example, I like to read about history in French or Dutch, Or if you want to learn playing an instrument you can pick up an instruction book in a language you are studying.
Thanks for destroying my illusions about language learning and goals setting! I appreciate it. It'll help me to stay more realistic and motivated when things won't go as smooth as it was planned.
Great work Lindie, very interesting watching your videos! I'm trying to learn English, Dutch, French, Italian and Russian at the same time and always looking for ideas to make it more fun and more effecient. Greetings from Germany 🙂
A few months ago I decided to learn Esperanto, and then I picked up Mandarin a little later. Couldn't be more different, right? Well, "ni" is a pronoun in both languages, but it's "we" in Esperanto and "you" in Mandarin. I've mixed them up So. Many. Times.
Languages get easier when one learns them linguistically. Study phonetics and phonology for pronunciation, morphology for word formation, and syntax for sentence structure and word order. The aforementioned steps are advantageous for learning many languages as when one understands how language scientifically works, Its learning gets easier.Besides, ensure you learn new vocabulary every day and listen to native speakers of the language you are learning. I have learnt English following the steps above, and now I am learning German. It seems much easier than when I started learning English as I had no knowledge of what I pointed out above at the moment. Good luck to everyone trying to learn new things.
I don't have a schedule either and I am glad to know it's the same for you. I am also glad to know the time you needed to start speaking Korean. Thanks. :D
This is awesome! I speak English and Spanish and have been learning Chinese for many months. I happen to really enjoy Chinese, especially listening to the music. Next, I have started listening to Korean music and I watch Korean drama. We'll see if I decide to learn it formally. Best to all of you! Thanks for the video!
I speak 5 languages and I'm focusing on Japanese and Korean right now. I have been learning Japanese for like 4 years now and I'm in upper intermediate level so I started Korean this year. I'm trying my best to balance them but it is frustrating sometimes haha But thanks to your video, I feel a little bit better now! You really are amazing! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for this video! I have been struggling lately with Chinese, but it was very comforting to hear that other people also hated their target language for some time haha
I totally agree with you at the point where I can not just logically understand but also can truly feel you have gone through true struggles of learning languages. Such as balancing your time, the true willingness of one's desire for learning languages, and your personal time that has taken 3~4 years for communicative level of Korean. It's really true that you have to stick to the one language to fully master and get a result of communicative level. My life time goal is actually to learn 10 languages which are Korean, Japanese, Chinese for East Asia and English, French, Spanish and Russian for Western World and Turkish, Arabic and Farsi or Urdu for Central Asia and be at a communicative level on those not just speaking some sentences. To tell my personal experience, I kind of have disappointed on those polyglots who speak more than like 20 languages and have taken their advantages of learning 'nearby' languages because they could have learned something very different from their native language even few among those 20 languages although it's still amazing thing at the fact that least you attempted to learn something else outside of your shell. The reason why you could have already guessed that it sounds very wildly covered when you see those languages is because I know that not much of people is interested in learning languages in general so I wanted to set it like that to make myself have a journey to those languages someday at least and still in progress. At this rate, I know that if you learn a language, it's not just you are learning language but also learning or experiencing their culture deeply because at this period of my life, I figured out that myself's true interest lies on the beauty of Literature and the story of History that are only possible through learning their languages. Essentially, I want to live in the beauty of nature in time. Since I have already mastered at a certain level in English and Japanese (currently planning to get Kanken pre-1 level which is consisted of 3000 Chinese characters), my Korean is native already so no worry on that and currently learning French in baby step by step just like what you have described. My language journey has been already 8 years of Japanese now (mostly casually with 2~3 years of focused period unlike you have taken 3 to 4 years to get communicative level because I know Korean and Japanese are highly related and I'm Korean native anyways) and I can definitely say it had ups and downs that I can recall as 'Journey' as I mentioned earlier. Although I have studied Chinese here and there but didn't get attracted eventually until now so it's still here and there and my main focus now is french as I have been attracted to that language for no reason. Whoa, this was long essay but it's definitely worth it if you enjoyed my language story! all of the above is totally for my own fun and interest just like you.
I speak Chinese Japanese and English and trying to pick up a Scandinavian language because I’m interested in the life style and culture. I wasn’t sure which one to pick so this video really helps! Thank you
Languages I would like to learn: Korean ASL Spanish Portuguese German Japanese Lesser Priority: Mandarin Vietnamese Tagalog/Filipino If I'm out of Languages I'll consider French.
the weirdest person you would ever meet If you're learning Spanish It's also easy to learn Filipino/Tagalog because Philippines is a colony of spain for 333 years so the language is a bit similar and Filipino/Tagalog is also based in Spanish
I’ve been struggling with German lately and this has been a good reminder that it’s not gonna click instantaneously but that I have to keep working at it. Thanks!
Hey Lindie!! This video answered my questions. Thank you so much! It’s good that I’m learning French and Korean at the same time right now. My friends and some family members say that I can’t study 2 very different languages at the same time but I’m proving them wrong as I’m improving very well in both languages😁 Et en fait, ton accent français est parfait! Merci encore pour cette vidéo! 감사합니다!❤️
I‘m going to learn german and japanese at the same time, and when I reach german’s C.1 and japanese’s Noken 3 i’ll start with french, and later on korean or mandarin. I feel like it will be a lot easier to do it that way.
many learners often ASSUME that they have already reached their full potential in a given language, while in fact they have reached AT MOST 20% of their potential :) Unfortunately, many learners believe that becoming fluent or proficient is the same as reaching 80-90% of their potential. As I see it, once you become fluent, you can say that you have reached just 20% of your potential, and from there you still have such a long, long way to go
learning Japanese and Korean at the same time is really something. i tend to accidentally mix them together but it is so much fun. if i have to follow your advice, i really can't decide which one to drop.
i m 14 and I aculy have pretty good plan of how I'm learning at the same time couple of languages. first of all . 1.French. I m learning at school and listening to music lessons and ather as well as grammar at home. 2. Korean. learning at home grammar music as well I aculy inspired my classmate to learn it so we try to help each ather, I have word cards. 3 Russian . I m aculy living near that country so my mom knows how to speak it . my classmates picked Russian so they gave me there notebooks and athers things so I rewe and learn from it. My native language is not English . the funny thing is that i aculy kinda learned English on yotube more then in my school ;) My native language is REALY DAM HARD BUT unique and georges as well as old so i had pretty dam nice start cuz my native alphabet has realy hard to pronounce sounds . idk if I have super big goal but I want to speak 10 languages by the time that I will go to university ... I alredy know 2 that I can pretty fluently communicate thro and learning little by little 3 at the same time. after that I m thinking Spanish cuz its kinda close with French English as well as the grammar is easy. I m in love with Japanese as well as Korean so next round would by xd Spanish and Japanese XD
i want to learn japanese along with either russian or german. I'd say the three languages are decently different from each other and not easy to mix up
I'm chinese, currently learning french ... I have been learning spanish and Portuguese for 3 and half an year respectively , right now I have no problems interacting with native speakers 🔊 (as long as they speak at normal speed and avoid using certain colloquial terms) lol 😂....what I found intimidating is French , I managed to get some daily words to get more acquainted with this brand new language on a daily basis ... I just wanna say nothin is impossible if you have a willing heart and be persistent... furthermore , it's crucial that we practice everyday bc our memories will fade with time no matter how you trust your memory span ... good job ! I'm looking forward to getting your feedback regarding this in chinese ! Cheers ! 加油
This vídeo is really informative! Especially the part where you talk about our need for instant gratification. I feel that, when learning languages, that's the main problem
Knew you from Lingodeer app. Plan to learn Korean & Japanese at the same time. First I confused because of your short hair comparing to your video on Lingodeer 😂. Thank you so much for this video, and thank you so much you want to learn my language, Indonesian. Appreciate it ♥
I am french and I currently study Mandarin ; my mandarin courses are given by american teachers, so I also practice for my english ^^ Thanks for this vidéo !
Hi Lindie, great video! A great take on the 'how do you learn so many languages' video. Honestly I think the best part of the video was hearing someone else say that they don't really keep plans or to do lists for language practice. Rather just learn instinctively, by feel and whatever time you have free. This is how I'm learning right now, I don't know if I'll be able to do it the whole year or if I'll eventually need to be a bit more methodical. I found that often if im super methodical about language learning, it becomes more about writing to do lists and diagrams rather than actually learning. Cheers! ^_^
Totally! So much time is spent by people making schedules and writing lists and deciding what chapters to do and beating themselves up for not doing that...when you could be spending all that time just naturally learning!
Yup! it's like if I only have an hour to spare each day, i can't afford 15 minutes of that to be writing summaries or checkpoints of my performance. Thanks :)
I have the exact motivation that you said is not good enough: "I want to speak fluently 20 languages". I don't feel frustated because I really love to learn any language. I love grammar and different cultures, every time I understand a new grammar structure is like a "eureka" moment for me.
Hello! I also like to learn foreign languages very much and I teach russian to foreigners in english and in french! I add different videos on my channel about russian and also videos with my other hobbies: piano playing and skateboarding. Maybe if you find something helpful and interesting there I will be happy if you subscribe :)
I’m only bilingual, having learned Spanish is High School, but since I’ve graduated the biggest things that have helped me in my continued practice is that 1. I bought a Spanish version of book I have already read many times in English and am now reading that and using context to help reinforce old vocabulary and grammar structures while more easily picking up new ones. 2. I listen to a lot of Spanish music from genres I’m already interested in and make it a point to sing along. 3. I am fortunate enough to work with a Mexican immigrant by the name of Toni and I try to speak Spanish with him as much as possible.
Great advice! I can completely relate. I don't have a schedule either. What I use is a, "done list", as opposed to a to do list. I record everything I've done in terms of language learning in a day. Then I can look back and see what I've been doing intensively and what I've been neglecting, not just in terms of which languages, but also which methods. I just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying it!

Always nice to see such a video. This way was my first Inspiration three years ago. Thank you sooo much for sharing your ecperience. This polyglotthing totally changed my life. Like a dream came true. If you learn German, please tell me if you have aby advice to improve my channel, please
Yes, that's me right now! 😂😂I want to learn Japanese, Korean, and Chinese at the same time and since I'm an idiot I don't know where to start and what to start on 😂😂😂
Me too. I also do not use any schedules to study. I made some schedules but I did not follow them. For me, that was a prison and then, I decided to learn without them and train pronunciation and really basic grammar. I speak Brazilian Portuguese natively and I do speak English as well and I am currently learning German in a serious way and after French.
Thanks for these tips. No matter how I try to learn other languages with Korean which is the main language I have interest for; I end up studying only Korean unintentionally. It eats up all my dedication and determination without giving room for others.😥😰

This is funny. I was learning Korean and Spanish at the same time and I would start sentences in Spanish and end them in Korean and vice versa.
Shaquita Fanning haha same! Except I started Korean before spanish and I am focusing more on Korean than spanish
i thought of doing exactly that actually xD learning spanish and korean at the same time i mean, but i don’t know if it’s a good idea? how did it go for you if you don’t mind ? :’)
I also want to know how you coped, Spanish is required for me but I want to learn Korean :/
Jenny Winstrop I have shifted my focus to Korean because it was hard to do both. I am also studying Bulgarian now.
Shaquita Fanning good luck in being a polygot! I'm starting Korean right now, I decided to do the same since I'm motivated to learn it.
A word about practice:
"Practice makes perfect." ...is a lie.
Instead of practice makes perfect my family says practice makes progress and it has definitely helped me out when I say it like that.
Let's agree on: Perfect practice makes permanent perfect progess (xD)
Lol,only your dad says it
Our brains are not wired like children's, so that logic is completely flawed.
Me:
Portuguese: native
English: advanced/conversational
Spanish: intermediate (practicing a lot)
Italian: wishlist
French: wishlist
Japanese: maybe one day (the thought of learning another alphabet drives me crazy)
Honestly mood. I have been putting off my dream of speaking japanese and chinese for so long rn im learning french but to be frank i have no more motivation left in me.
oh learning another alphabet isn't that hard! i'm speaking as someone who tried one time to learn russian and has learned cyrrilic. also i'd reccomend going to omniglot they've got phonetic transcriptions for letters and all that jazz (also explanations on where they're used!)
unfortunately though japanese uses two syllibary (hiragana and katakana) which could be hard to learn depending on how well you learn stuff but kanji (the logographic system that is also used) is gonna be a challange no matter how you see it
We have the exact same languages! Except my native language is Spanish and i'm practicing a lot of Portuguese hahahah
When I'm mad at someone, I speak 4 languages at the same time😂
Alijah Macajig lol, that is one of my goals!!!
what languages?
Hahaha, this happens to me mostly when I'm tired 😂 I can sound really ridiculous when sleep deprived and trying to collect my thoughts 😂
I live in Japan, and when my Bolivian-Japanese friend and I got excited or angry, we would switch among English, Japanese and Spanish, confusing everyone in a 5-mile radius. Lol
yume studies when I'm bullying or mocking someone i switch languages too :v
Life Happens. Examples:
1. Hamster deaths
2. Hamster funerals
Rip hamster
I just experienced both this past month.
I had someone asking me similar questions in Starbucks yesterday, because they saw me having my Korean lesson on WhatsApp then after I was speaking to my friend in Spanish, while writing things in German.
+Robbie Heslop a true polyglot, Robbie!
Thank you so much / baie dankie! ^0^!!
And what was your answer?
So you're born German?
How did you do it? Now I am learning french and I wanted to start learning Spanish and Turkish but I am confused about the time management between them. Any advice that can help me?
"Watch shows in that language"
Ppl learning Japanese: *logs into crunchyroll*
I literally can't find any shows that are in bahasa indonesia..😔
What are good websites I can watch japanese stuff and anime
I'm a Korean and dealing with 3 different foreign languages, English, Japanese, German at the same time. It's hard to balance with them. I just take turns. The important thing is to keep doing and exposing to 3 languages without long lnterval.
same, except im learning German, japanese and mandrin at the same time
good luck to us both
I have a question. Why do some Koreans want to learn German? A lot of people say it sounds very angry so.. yeah
Imma chinese speaker who is stuck in learnin' korean
i’m an english native learning korean japanese mandarin and now i just started german these are all the languages i want to know in my lifetime
I am learning Japanese and Mandarin at the same time. It is tough but I really enjoy it. I always end up finding time for both.
+Lazy Einstein よかったですね!加油!
i'm trying to learn both as well. how do you do it and not get confused :')
Same, I'm studying Japanese and Mandarin at the same time. :)
@@LazyEinstein tbh you gave me courge to start studying mandarin! thank you!!
This line honestly cracked me up, "Alors, you have to have the same accent quand on parle le francais, do you hear how similar I'm sounding maintenant?"
jaeden Drake Oh my god! I didn't notice that until I read this comment!
I loved this also! So cute!
at 5:30 to have it
I legit didn't realize she was using both languages. It just registered in my head
The funny thing is I’m learning French so I understood that whole sentence but didn’t realize it was mixed with English and French until she said maintenant 😂😂😂😂😂
when I learned French and Korean at the same time I used to ALWAYS say
Je m'appelle ... 입니다.
and I still do so until this day lol
I gave up on French after school but I'm fluent in Korean now.
These days I'm learning Danish and I also want to start Japanese or Chinese...
Thanks so much for all of your great videos!^^
I didn't subscribe yet, but I will do so right after sending this comment ㅋㅋ
독일언니 German Eonni samee i learnt korean and hindi at the same time and i used to be like *points at a dish* 이거 kya hai?
WOW Chinese,as a native speaker I sometimes find it’s a little bit hard to manage it. Good luck
Interesting to hear of these experiences!
I started studying German in high school and (as all Finns) I had mandatory Swedish classes at the same time. With the two languages being so closely related, studying them at once did not work for me at all - so many words are similar, they might have a difference of just a letter or two, and I kept mixing it all up
But now that in university, I'm studying Russian and Chinese at the same time and I have had no difficulties at all caused by this. I still think it helps a lot that the languages are not related.
Wow, i’m impressed👏 I am from Denmark and I have never heard about anyone who is learning Danish or wants to learn Danish😊
I myself have also had French in school but gave up on it and the same thing happend when I had German in school. It is kind of annying to spend so much time on a language you end up giving up on.
Right now I am determined to learn Korean and hopefully I will complete that goal😊 But I am impressed by the number of languages people can maintain without being confused and mixing the different languages together💪
By the way, where are you from since you are learning Danish?😄
Hahaha, I've done the same thing with Japanese and French. I said Je m'appelle {name} です。😂
"Try to mimic the accent"
Ppl learning Latin: *nervous sweating* wh-what??
That’s hilarious
Oml hahaha
Time to fust off the old nechronomichon
In Spanish it’s “pan” and in Japanese it’s “パン”
the japanese language got the word bread from the Portuguese! "pao"
many words especially religious ones come from Portuguese in japanese.
Lmao and in Korean it’s ppang
It's 'pav' in Marathi 😂
In Portuguese is pão, in Korean 빵 (you can read pang with a very weak g) and I can think many other languages that it's similiar. As Brazilian, is so weird to me that in English we say bread. Like, it doesn't match. Lol
I'm a native Spanish speaker, and I'm currently learning Korean and French, I was wondering why bread sounds the same in Spanish, French and Korean
I was tempted to put my phone in Korean but worried that I wouldn't understand enough of the words
Jameelah Edwards I use my three languages daily as well. But I do struggle using sign language regularly.
@@nomadicvibesofelle trust me it's OK my phone is in Korean I changed it from English
So true about “love hate relationship with languages” and I’m actually relieved that you said that cause I thought I’m only one who have those feelings while learning Korean and Japanese. There were a lot of times that I took pretty long breaks because I was just so frustrated and demotivated. But this year I wish to change and hopefully I will be able to hit my target in language learning.
heyyaa the moment i read this comment she said "love hate relationship with languages"
Really clear and fantastically structured video. really agree with your tips. Also I'm afraid people don't stop asking you the same questions over and over even if you've made a video on it
+Ophelia Vert hahah! I've figured! Oh well. And thank you for watching dearest Ophelia! 🌸
Well, at least you can just paste the video link instead of trying to explain it every time :-D.
Your French accent is fantastic it made me laugh so much you nailed it hahaha
ACEKID au Japon J'espère qu'un jour je vais parler avec une bonne prononciation.
+ACEKID au Japon loooool merci!
Elle a même chopé l'accent chelou que les français font quand ils veulent imiter un anglais x) c'est excellent x)
That french accent though! Very helpful tips here Lindie, Thanks
I was living in china with my boyfriend and we speak to each other in english/chinese, and swear in russian aha.
I’m learning korean now for 3 years & yes I can speak it comfortably, but I’m still so jealous of Lindie’s korean skills 😂
I still have such a long way to go!
I want to learn Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, French, Swahili and Hebrew. I’m very determined, but I just wanna take my time and not rush.
You are such an inspiration Lindie!
I believe these tips are gonna help me out in learning languages. Currently learning and trying out two languages at the same time.
Hi i have been learning English since 15 December 2019 , and i'm going to be fluent in English by end of July 2020 actually i'm studying full time by myself i hope to achieve my goal in the exact time . i need your prayers guys thank you
Do you have any tips to share? Was this video helpful?

I came here not to learn about language but to research about how people study/achieve multiple things at the same time. Its a good video thank you.
I thought it was only me who got angry with Korean 😂😂 I really felt like a total villain
Exactly! I was really silly to try do Malaysian and Indonesian at the same time hahaha!
My mothertongue is french, I learn english and spanish. For english, I listen to 40 minutes of english per day, and for spanish I work a bit everyday on the app Busuu
I really really like your mannerisms and how natural you are. I feel inspired to pull up my sleeves once more. Thank you for this ♡♡♡
Old but gold.
I am enjoying the glory of knowing several languages at work place. My endless efforts is payed off.
You are my favorite language youtuber! There is so much quality in all of your videos. Thank you for sharing them
Not because this has anything to do with the video but I’m already fluent in 3 languages and in 6th grade I’ll start learning Spanish.
Hello. I'm indonesian. Aku suka video kamu. Terima kasih tips nya! 😊
Recently you seem to read my mind haha All the videos you release nowadays are answering my questions ❤❤ Thanks a lot Lindie!
Watched this before and now I am doing 3 languages and seeing your video again I have a better understanding.
Omg I'm a vietnamese :3 good luck on studying it because its grammars are pretty hard! But I think you'll master it ✨
Great work Lindie, very interesting watching your videos!
I'm trying my best to balance them but it is frustrating sometimes haha
But thanks to your video, I feel a little bit better now! You really are amazing! Keep up the good work!
Not learning similar languages's kinda an outstanding tip, I like this approach!
Thank you so much for this video! I have been struggling lately with Chinese, but it was very comforting to hear that other people also hated their target language for some time haha
Same thing. I just gave up on setting schedules. They stress me out as well. I can‘t enjoy learning when i plan every single step i have to do.
Thank you
Languages I would like to learn:
Korean
ASL
Spanish
Portuguese
German
Japanese
Lesser Priority:
Mandarin
Vietnamese
Tagalog/Filipino
If I'm out of Languages I'll consider French.
the weirdest person you would ever meet
If you're learning Spanish
It's also easy to learn Filipino/Tagalog because Philippines is a colony of spain for 333 years so the language is a bit similar and Filipino/Tagalog is also based in Spanish
JiminTopAndYoongiBottomIsEverything
Yeah. Thank you. I know
the weirdest person you would ever meet good luck u can do it!
I’ve been struggling with German lately and this has been a good reminder that it’s not gonna click instantaneously but that I have to keep working at it. Thanks!
Just keep learning. It is only a matter of time and effort. Even the dumbest of all Germans can speak more or less a reasonable German ;)
감사합니다!❤️
Thank you so much. I like the idea of little feasible goals. Three times a week for most important languages another good idea.
As I see it, once you become fluent, you can say that you have reached just 20% of your potential, and from there you still have such a long, long way to go
지금 독일어 배우는 중인데 많은 영감 받고 가요! 진짜 멋진분이신 것 같아요. ㅎㅎㅎ☺️💕 영상 감사해요~!
learning Japanese and Korean at the same time is really something. i tend to accidentally mix them together but it is so much fun. if i have to follow your advice, i really can't decide which one to drop.
i m 14 and I aculy have pretty good plan of how I'm learning at the same time couple of languages. first of all .
My native language is not English . the funny thing is that i aculy kinda learned English on yotube more then in my school ;)
My native language is REALY DAM HARD BUT unique and georges as well as old so i had pretty dam nice start cuz my native alphabet has realy hard to pronounce sounds .
idk if I have super big goal but I want to speak 10 languages by the time that I will go to university ...
Arie cancer Best of luck on all your future language endeavours!
i want to learn japanese along with either russian or german. I'd say the three languages are decently different from each other and not easy to mix up
こんにちは Lindie, your directions are very cool, merci beaucoup :)
Nice video! Português is my native language, but I've been learning Deutsch and 普通话 together. These two and English are the languages of my heart.
Cheers ! 加油
Kelly Yi hi do you have Wei xin?
This vídeo is really informative! Especially the part where you talk about our need for instant gratification. I feel that, when learning languages, that's the main problem
Most of my language learning takes place in my car. My car is a language lab. on wheels.
I am from Brazil and i'm currently learning english and italian as well. is been hard, but i have so motivation. great video!
Knew you from Lingodeer app. Plan to learn Korean & Japanese at the same time. First I confused because of your short hair comparing to your video on Lingodeer 😂. Thank you so much for this video, and thank you so much you want to learn my language, Indonesian. Appreciate it ♥
Kau sedang tahap belajar bahasa apa?
Thanks :)
Thank you Lindie! ❤️🇵🇬
I love the polyglots videos, where they were able to learn some language in two weeks or less. :D :D :D
c'es impossible
I have the exact motivation that you said is not good enough: "I want to speak fluently 20 languages". I don't feel frustated because I really love to learn any language. I love grammar and different cultures, every time I understand a new grammar structure is like a "eureka" moment for me.
Hello! I also like to learn foreign languages very much and I teach russian to foreigners in english and in french! I add different videos on my channel about russian and also videos with my other hobbies: piano playing and skateboarding. Maybe if you find something helpful and interesting there I will be happy if you subscribe :)
Thanks for the video Lindie!
If you need help learning Indonesian, I can help you. I love your videos, 린디. I am currently studying basic Korean. :)

I want to learn german. Can you help me? Because i want to try polyglot' method.... learn alone by myself...
This was so helpful because I started learning Korean a few months ago but I also have to start learning Spanish next week for school. :)
Wahahaha 4:11 been there...
Skye Aten me right now 😂
Samee
I feel frustrated and not worthy if I don't study.
Me in French xD
Yes, that's me right now! 😂😂I want to learn Japanese, Korean, and Chinese at the same time and since I'm an idiot I don't know where to start and what to start on 😂😂😂
Me too. I also do not use any schedules to study. I made some schedules but I did not follow them. For me, that was a prison and then, I decided to learn without them and train pronunciation and really basic grammar. I speak Brazilian Portuguese natively and I do speak English as well and I am currently learning German in a serious way and after French.
".. hamster funerals to attend" My new favorite excuse for being tardy/late/no show to events in my life. Thank you.
Thanks for these tips.
No matter how I try to learn other languages with Korean which is the main language I have interest for; I end up studying only Korean unintentionally. It eats up all my dedication and determination without giving room for others.😥😰
