Thanks Rob for this great video. It brings back some wonderful childhood memories from the fields, paths and meadows of Twyford. Every day I would cycle from Twyford to catch the 8.13am train from Shawford to Southampton. One day I came home early and found myself sitting in the same carriage as Sophia Loren and got out with her at Shawford only to find cameras whirling everywhere. I obviously wasn't supposed to be there but they kept me in the film!
A quick question Rob. After you left the site of Compton Place and walked back along the railway to the Bridge Inn, is that correctly shown on the map caption at the end? It appears on the map that its away from the railway ? Thanks

Hi Rob, we are fairly new to walking in Hampshire. As we live in Owlesbury we used your vid for the Ship Inn walk and thoroughly enjoyed learning about the area. On Saturday we decided to do the Twydord walk but after we walked across the bridge (used footpath and not the private bridge near to St Mary's church) we had no idea which way to walk acros the meadow and weren't anywhere near a river. We found our way back to Twydord main road but sad we missed alot of your walk. Can you explain where we went wrong?
Hi Angela glad you're still having fun exploring. Not too sure how you went wrong it's quite a well beaten path down to Compton Lock. There are two paths one at your 1 oclock to your right is the one you needed to take. The other at your 11 oclock on the left ends up back on the Shawford road .Hope that helps
Yes,the water companies did have more civic pride in the past.I really like the way they dated the metal water company plates in the road.They don't do that now

Many years ago I visited the model village in the garden of one of the houses on the Shaw ford towpath
I used to love it as a kid.

I always think Twyford waterworks looks like the Tott Sweet factory in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang :-)
