Hi Rob. 4 years on just seeing your nice video. I grew up in Fair Oak. Went to Wyvern school, and spent quite a few years working locally and knocking about the pubs there. The Old George, The Clock Inn , The Fox and Hounds to name a couple. I live in the US now. Still nice to see . All the best 👍
@stevenmorris2293 Glad to bring back a few memories Steve.
Alas Roger, the landlord of the Hinton arms, died last year. He’s sadly missed.
That's so sad I enjoyed his dry humour.

Doing this walk tomorrow Rob, with my walking group - I've tweaked it a bit to go along the TOP of the Hanger - looking forward to some great views this autumn.
I know I'd just get hopelessly lost if I tried to follow on of these! Great vid though 👍
Nah you'll be fine 😊

@GosseArvin-s9r ooh that makes it sound exotic 🙂
Hello Rob! Thanks for the vidéo… I Will be using this public footpath next month and i have few questions : how long does it takes to do the path (from main gate to the end of the Forest) ? How are the castle views : better at the beggining of the Path or next to the chapel ? Where is the exit of the path exactly before the village ? Thanks for your help :)
@laurentpeleau8702 Hi Laurent. Main gate to the end of the forest (village road) probably around an hour (difficult for me to judge as when I'm filming I take ages 😁) The best view of the castle is early on (title pic) The path exits onto the road literally on the edge of the village. I don't know if you're visiting or local but if you visit in the peak summer months they open up a lot more paths on the estate which is a lot nicer walk than the main road trudge . Enjoy.
@@RobsHampshirePubWalks staying in Portsmouth for 2 days only and 1 Will be dédicated to Downton Abbey filming location. I specially rent a car with private driver so each minutes count 😅 i would like him to drop us at the main gate and pick us up at the end of the path that’s Why I wanted to know where exactly is the end to give him the direction. If 1h is ok to do the path then it Will be fine … because if it was more than 1h30 or 2h it Will be complicated with my day organization 😂
@laurentpeleau8702 Hi Laurent you should be OK with that time frame for the walk. Enjoy and perhaps after your break you can watch Howard's Way and come back for those locations 🙂
My playground as a child , magic !
My grandfather was born in The Fox at the turn of the last century.
@DougHopkins-pf7jx That's great Doug if you have any information or photos I'm sure the landlady Miriam would be very interested.
Lovely walk Rob ,Cheers

This just popped up on TH-cam 4 years late. My Mother was a local to the area ( Liphook ) as a young girl she used collect and deliver milk for my Grandads dairy around Grayshott and Headley including the Canadian camp you mentioned. In the 50s she worked at a famous local pub called The Deers Hut then owned by a well known landlord Bert Oram. It was here she met my Father who was stationed at Longmoor Camp. We lived at Longmoor until 1968 when we moved to my Fathers hometown of Derby. We still visited my Grandparents up to the mid 80s and I remember being taken to Waggoners Wells many times as a kid.
Lovely memories
Well done on 100 walks. Just subbed to you. Me and my son go on outdoors adventures and video them too. Keep up the good vids very chilled and interesting.
Thank you , enjoy your father son time, I hope your videoing goes well.
What a beautiful villlage. My great x 4 grandfather Thomas Slingo was born in Crondall. His wife was Jane Javes. He was sentenced to transportation for stealing a sheep in the 1840s but remained on the hulk until he received a free pardon in 1846. He then disappears from history. I am descended from his son George who immigrated to Australia and settled in the Bendigo area in Victoria
You have missed so much out of the Kingsclere RACE RIOT. Because that is what it was. It started in Newbury days before when Black Troops were put into a camp on Monkey's Lane (now called Monks Lane) and their encampment was a tented village called by locals as the Camp (later Camp Close) and today called the Oaks. There had been tensions due to blacks thinking they were getting the worst of the handing out of biletts etc. Pubs in the entire area were 'allotted' to various corps and the blacks had found themselves unwelcome almost everywhere in the town, so the black corps started going out into countryside, car and bike theft went through the roof as Mentioned in the Newbury Weekly News every week at this time. Pick any week in the 6 months leading up to D-Day. 7 weeks before the events you speak of all the blacks were confined to their stations because of this crime wave, farmers had shot at them on a few occasions and that too was reported in the NWN. Certain pubs in Newbury used to stay open until 4pm on Market Days (Thursday and Saturday) normal time ws 2.30pm and the FIRST riot happened at the Queens Arms on one particular Thursday. The MPs were needed and about 30 were charged in Courts Martial on the various camps. The battle spread out as the corps of men dispersed with the final account being of a huge brawl in the garden of the Adam & Eve pub around 6pm. The Adam and Eve Pub is under a road now. Somehow it all became racial after that, culminating in the Kingsclere events (did you mention the bullet still in the Oak beam in the Pub? You could put your finger in the hole and clean it out an see the bullet if you scratched it) All those charged were Black, all 10 and their corps was the "3247 Quartermaster Service Corps" They worked in Newbury on the Race Course feeding and preparing rations for soldiers leaving for France. The white soldiers refused to take food from the blacks as the blacks were accused of despoiling the food offered to the white troops still happens to this day in US McDonalds and it is thought that this was the true root of the riots. It remains the most plausible reason. "Sydmonton" it's a common error to call Bishops Green 'Sydmonton' as it adjoins Sydmonton Common... but the other black encampment was in what is today called Bishops Green. The entirety of that area was a giant wooden city, in fact even today you can sneak into a little bit of 'woods' and stumbled over the rotten remains of the 2 giant 'human hangers' that housed 500 corpsmen in each. If you were to walk from the end of Rooksfield to Hyde lane you can, on you right stumble across the old entrance to the hangers. Collapsed and overgrown but still there.
I remember the Brickhouse Dudley foundry on the site where Tesco now stands
Love these videos - I’ve done part of this walk before you’ve inspired me to try this one as well.
Thank you. It's great we have such wonderful countryside to walk in.
Thanks for taking us with you on a lovely walk.
@AllisonDavies My pleasure Allison (except the steep bits😁) Trev runs up them like a whippet but then he is younger than me......by a month 😁
The abbey mill site was bought by sainsburys , they planned to build a huge superstore which would have finished off alot of the shops in the high st .There was fierce opposition to this from the locals ( but unfortunately no riots this time) The campaign to oppose this got alot of press as it was backed by Amanda Holden ( a local lass who used to work in the greengrocers in the high st) part of the plans for the superstore was a huge underground car park and a new doctors surgery to sweeten the planning application. As some locals already knew the site is the meeting of several underground aquifers and when they tried to put the piles down they hit running sand and there is no way it could have been built. Sainsburys got in a bit of a sulk about the local opposition , purchased the petrol garage , dropped their prices to the point that the other 2 local petrol stations quickly went out of business.
I remember the protests very well.
I did this walk today, Rob, and that church is definitely worth a visit next time, with its box pews (unusual) and all the Lord of the Manor buried there. The road out from the village is very busy and there isn’t much of a footpath, so beware of traffic! The annual D-Day Weekend in June is well-worth attending!
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm always disappointed when I find the churches closed on my walks. They often hold hidden delights.
Thanks for the walk Rob.
Thanks Allison
Good video Robbo
Hey Rob, great video. Nice to see pubs are a priority.😀
Thanks Rob. Lots of information and a lovely walk.
I have done this walk but at the end turned around & went back the way I came because the road is so busy to walk along.
The road bit is all but cut out now due to the permissive path.
I will have a look next time I am along there.
Rob, the OS Map does NOT start at the Langstone Pub in Horton Heath!😬
That's the Lapstone ex Rising Sun
They also produce sea salt in pans in Malta
Can you add the OS map to all your walks, thanks! 😊
Hi You might want to join the Facebook group which has much more than just the video. There are links to the OS MAPS APP, lots of photos and you can keep up to date with others observations of path conditions, whether the pubs are still open and you can even see others walks and get advice from fellow members. It's all free too 😀!
BURGEE !!! What am I thinking of, it's Burgage plot with the tenant being a Burgess.

My local
all that area now to become a new town ....sadly.
Yes half the reason I did the walk in the hope planners would at least value the rights of way and incorporate them into a green space. You never know.
Brings back a lot of good memories. Thanks for the upload..
My pleasure
My daughter lived in Romsey from 2013 for a number of years. Its a lovely place thats sadly changing rapidly, with the large out of town housing estates being thrown up, but at least you still have Bradbears. Look after it and the town centre, they are gems worth preserving. We miss you Romsey.
Sorry Rob as much as I like your vlogs I had to turn off after 5 minutes because of the wind noise you just can’t hear what you’re saying, please invest in a dead cat or a wireless mic, just a thought which I should probably have kept to myself, keep up the good work though.
I know Tony. Problem is the camera has built in mikes, no hot shoe , I'm looking at others or perhaps I should choose less windy days 😁 (stick it on silent and watch the subtitles they're usually good for a laugh 😁)

Thanks Rob.
30 pubs wow. Im finally going back tomorrow!!!
Lovely post but please sort that mic out you can get a big fluffy wind mic sock to help xx

Thanks for an interesting video. I wanted to see how hilly the Common is, before signing up for a sponsored walk. Pleased to see it looks mostly on the level ☺

Great start. Cricketers Arms circa 1978...bikers pub...what a night!!! Band playing FAT Bottom Girls...and then out of nowhere right in the middle of that great rendition....an announcer shouts on onbthe microphone....PORK DRAW...PORK DRAW...PINK 565. And then the band comes back in again!!! So funny 😂😂😂😂
Brilliant. Look for "Club Foot" by Lady Winwoods Maggot on TH-cam it'll make you laugh 😂😂😂
Why no commentary?
I filmed this shortly after the death of HM The Queen. I thought it better to remain silent and focus on the natural sounds around us. Despite her great age it was a shock for the nation to lose the only head of state most of us have ever known. I guess I felt it was more respectful.
When showing the pyramid memorial in this video, you mentioned Mad Jack Fuller and his pyramid at Brightling. He is said to be an ancestor of mine. My maternal grandmother was a Miss Fuller.
What a small world Catherine 😊
Interesting…thank you
Never been in there. Used to walk by there on my way to school from Knowle to Funtley but that was in the 1950's.Great to know it's still there. I live at least 1000 miles from there now, but if you're passing by, drop in and have a couple for me please.
