  • I tried grafting a difficult type of bud wood at a difficult time of the year. The results were not as expected but in the end it all worked out. If you are new to grafting there are some techniques you will find useful. Visit my web www.myavocadotrees.com

    Carlos, I am watching all of your videos and learning a great deal. Your humility and the integrity to share even failed experiments impresses. I have only grafted apples, but you have given me the knowledge and courage to try avocado.

    Thanks Carlos, your videos are very informative. I have learnt a lot. I have used your different techniques to graft about a dozen avocado trees... all successfully. thanks again for sharing your knowledge. ps. I live in Jamaica, its tropical so I do not have to worry about the seasons, only the humidity

    Thank you very much for sharing; I tried to graft my big avocado tree also in october 2011 but it did not function.
    With this clear and step by step video I know what to do differently.

      To make it 100% full proof make sure the bud wood is moving and is beginning to push buds also if you can wait for the period of time after the new moon, 3-8 days offer a nice window of time.
      Buena suerte

      GraftingAvocados I will take this on board as well. Luckily my avocado tree that has been cultivated from the seed on is blooming at the moment. It is about nine years old now and I am delighted that it will give fruit ready to eat in about three months.

    Really good video, straight to the point, good close ups and no waffling on about why it is important to choose the right garden gnome. Just bought my first couple of avocado trees (Sharwil and Hass) and looking forward to my Shepard seeds growing so I can take a crack at grafting.

    Since you are in the Orlando area you need to find out what other people are growing in your area. All that grows is Homestead can not grow there. It get much colder in Orlando. I suggest you join tropical fruit forum.com and ask there what are they growing near you and if they can give you or sell you bud wood.

    I heard that if you bend the top over and tie it in that position then the lower branches and grafts will get more of the energy and grow faster.

    Thanks for video , does the scion have to be a different variety or can it be the same as rootstock wood?

    • @GraftingAvocados
      @GraftingAvocados  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason we graft is because we want to make certain that we grow an specific variety with an ideal root stock for the location

    Thanks for the advice !! ...Carlos I have like 20 small trees now that are growing and I have notice on 3 of them that they have the are growing the part that you need for grafting , ,( I call it females )...so maybe I could graft the rest from using like you call it or is call "budwood" from the 3 ones that I have, once they get bigger and anyway they still very small !!,,,Thanks!!

    +Graftingavocados I'm new to this but we recently moved into a house here in San Diego CA there is a huge 23ft high bacon avocado tree. My question is
    Can I grow more trees from cuttings off that tree?? And where would I taking a cutting from. Because all the stems or Wtvr they are called, where the fruits grow from are really droopy. not straight, so I think it would be hard to plant a really bent tree lol. Do I cut a branch and use that?? Thank you

    thank you. I live in UK and cold weather started now 22 Oct 2016 around 11 to 12 degrees during the day and it drops down to 5 or 4 at night. What month shall i do my grafting with my avocado trees? I put them in the shade in case it freezes at night. my little trees are 6 months old and about 1 1/2 foot tall in small pots.

    • @GraftingAvocados
      @GraftingAvocados  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably none. Unless you have a greenhouse I don't think the avocado will grow, flower and fruit in UK

    How long till the graft produces fruit?what is the purpose of grafting an avocado clipping onto an avocado tree? Anyone know?

    • @cubergeneration148
      @cubergeneration148 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      T. Price Without grafting a fruit tree, the tree takes 8 or 9 years to produce fruit, and even then it is not a high production rate. You must graft on a scion of an already fruiting tree. It takes a while for the scion to mature, but if successful, it will produce better fruit faster and more efficiently than an un grafted tree.

    • @psychogorilla7496

      +Cuber Generation so grafting means growing from cuttings right?
      Can I cut from my tree it's a bacon avocado tree about 23ft high with lots of fruit. And where would I get the cutting from? There's no parts that are straight that I could just plant. Everything is really droopy. Unless I use a branch? Thank u

    • @vsgP7117
      @vsgP7117 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What the experienced said that if you graft a healthy scion with tiny buds from an old trees' end of twig on to as young as 1 year old seedling the young tree will bear fruit quicker than an old tree from a seed which takes about five yrs or more.
