    Thank you. I enjoyed this vlog. I too liked Jimmy Stewart. My dad was a B17 pilot in WWII. I would like to think he and Stewart are in heaven sharing their flying experiences.

    One of the best actors even, handsome, a great military presence and a faithful and long married man. RIP Jimmy, your wife and adopted son.

    Jimmy Stewart is my favorite actor and “Harvey” is my favorite movie. What I love about Stewart is he was so humble. A general, and a major movie star, he was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and a gammy. Literally, hundreds of film-related awards yet, he always seemed to be just a soft-spoken guy from Indiana, Pennsylvania.
    Maybe it was Gloria that kept him grounded.
    If you ever get back to PA perhaps you could visit Fred Rodgers's grave at Unity Cemetery sits on Unity Cemetery Road about a mile west of Latrobe. Latrobe is the home of the Latrobe Brewery, the original brewer of Rolling Rock beer. Latrobe was the birthplace and childhood home of children's television personality Fred Rogers and former professional golfer Arnold Palmer.
    You could also visit Mr Rodgers's original neighborhood Rogers grew up in a large three-story brick house at 737 Weldon Street in Latrobe. Latrobe is about 45 minutes east of Pittsburgh.

      Jimmy Stewart was amazing. We knew that Mr. Rodgers was from the PA area...the Heinz history center in pittsburgh talked about him a bit. Didn't know his home was in Latrobe though!

    I always saw Jimmy Stewart as having a huge heart. It just seemed to come across, no matter what the role. He is one of those men I hope to meet in Heaven. It's a Wonderful Life is such a meaningful movie and the favorite of millions. You had me almost crying. Hugs!

    20 February 1966: Brigadier General James M. Stewart, United States Air Force Reserve, flew the last combat mission of his military career, a 12 hour, 50 minute “Arc Light” bombing mission over Vietnam, aboard Boeing B-52 Stratofortress of the 736th Bombardment Squadron, 454th Bombardment Wing.

    It's a Wonderful Life originally was a flop but soon became a Christmas staple when it came out that the movie studio had made a mistake in filing its copyright. This meant that any TV station could show it any number of times without having to pay royalties.

    Jimmy Stewart flew combat missions in WW2... and a unannounced 2 week tour in Vietnam, Stewart, then a Brigadier General in the USAF reserve, took a two week tour as a pilot on a B-52 bomber. Stewart did so with no publicity... only years after his death was this revealed... He also lost a stepson in Vietnam... ILT. Ronald McLean

    Jimmy Stewart absolutely refused to allow Hollywood to make any movie regarding his military service. He was a big enough star to make it stick.

    Recently found your channel and subscribed. History has always fascinated me, and your videos are great! I wasn't sure if you already knew this or not, but there's a book Jimmy Stewart's wartime experiences. It's called Jimmy Stewart Bomber Pilot by Starr Smith. I read it several years ago and liked it.

    I might be mistaken but I think that It's a Wonderful Life is the first movie that Jimmy did after WW2 and that they originally did not want to cast him as the studio thought that he might be 'broken'. Funny that ended up being a movie that he is most known for and I could not see anybody doing that part.

    • @WalkwithHistory
      @WalkwithHistory  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was definitely the first movie he did coming back from WW2...to me that's what makes it so much more meaningful too. 😊

    I have always thought it shameful that most don't know of his military service. BTW, while Forest Lawn Glendale is the final resting place for over 1100 famous folks, Marilyn Monroe isn't one of them. She is at Pierce Brothers Westwood. Wishing you blessings and safe travels!
