You have one of the nicest R’s I’ve seen. Really dig the color with the black accents. Also, loved the way you film and how you structured your video including quality of your shots👍🏼
Just wanted to let you know that when I opened TH-cam after work, this video was the first on my home page, so maybe the algorithm is slowly fixing itself.
Awesome ride! I just picked up a new-to-me 2017 Golf R as well! Looking at doing a light lift from B2BFAB to get a bit more ground clearance... have you looked at those at all?
Owned a 2014 GTI Wolfsburg, loved it, traded it in for a 2019 Tiguan so my kid would have an all wheel drive commute to & from South Dakota for college. Kid came back after a semester,….kids are a hassle
I assume because of the all-wheel drive on the golf are that the golf are will break down faster and cost a lot more to fix than the GTI if you drive it a lot.
Sweet nicely modded from the PO. Had a MKIV r32 for over a decade sold it for the 5th gen 4runner sadly. Anyways, the last two door option the golf R in the US was the MK6, the MK7 was two door but only in the GTI in 15" and 16'. Golf R was only four door for MK7-7.5.
Great video and am glad that I came across it as a fellow VW Golf R MK7 2017 model owner. Can I ask, how long have you owned it from when the video was made? I can't believe what you get for USD 18K in the USA with all those stage 2 modifications. I paid similar but only got a stock model for that and even the same number of miles (KM's).
What’s the load capacity of your rhino rack? I have a Thule system on my wagon with jamb clamps and wanted to do the same root tent setup but been doubtful about how much load it can carry
I had an 18RR RS. It was great when it was great. I bought it new, drove it 50k miles, tracked it a few times every year. The faster I got, the more the car limited me. Most notably the head gasket. It ended up slightly leaking combustion gasses into the cooling system - I confirmed this myself, and had an indy mechanic confirm it. Ford dealership gave me a lot of runaround and told me that they wouldn't work on it, said they couldn't replicate the problem even if they wanted to. That stopped me from tracking, because the symptom would only happen at sustained high revs, which doesn't happen on the street. So I drove it for another 10k miles it was fine, then sold it. I sold it with 10k miles left on the original warranty for just $3k less than what I bought it for.
Traded in my 2015 lapis blue golf r for my truck. Man I forever regret that decision. Wish I could afford to have both. Thanks for reminding me how awesome that car was.
Are the racks on there like heavy duty racks ? Because they look similar to the Thule ones that I have on my sedan, but mine only hold 90 pounds so how in the heck where you able to put a roof top tent up there 😂 great video bro
I have the vortex rhino rack bars as well on my truck. Did you use bolts that fit inside the track on the bars to mount the tent? If so then what bolt size fits in those tracks?
I liked the new format. Great car, love my own MK 7.5 GTI, fun and practical car. With so many other camping rigs,it’s not clear why those ugly bars need to be on your Golf R! 😂
Man I never thought you your daily is a VW Golf R. I always thought you drove a truck or SUV of some sort as a daily too. Not to mention I thought you were a Toyota guy. The Golf R is definitely a nice practical and fun daily with the 4 door (or as we say here in Denmark 5 door. We count the hatch as a door too). Have you thought about the Toyota GR Corolla as it too is a 4x4?
I'd say my Tundra is more of my main daily - this is mostly a take daughter to school and quick grocery getter, haha. A little better in the road snow and a little more fuel efficient, etc. I've never been a huge fan of the Corolla - mostly a Toyota truck and land cruiser guy, haha
@@LastLineOfDefense those trucks and Land Cruisers from Toyota is definitely also nice and cool too. Although we don’t get the same trucks from Toyota as you do in North America here in Europe (but you probably already knew that.). I think we only get the Hilux, which is more suited to European narrow roads and the Land Cruiser cost at least 3 or 4 times as much as it does in the US here in Denmark. And then we also get the RAV4
As a VW fanboy my opinion is very biased. So with that out of the way, imo the Golf R is the perfect daily car. It’s a hatchback so it has decent storage space for your everyday things. It’s quick enough and handles great but most people would look at it and think “it’s just another golf”. It has the bells and whistles, and even though the manual transmission feels sloppy compared to most other cars, you can’t go wrong with the manual or DSG. they take to mods well and if you maintain them they’re reliable. Even just a stage 1 ecu flash wakes the car up so much. They’re a lot of fun, and I wish I would have saved a little longer to get the R instead of the GTI.
Yeah they really have a lot going for them. They get overlooked in the 'hot hatch' department I think just because they're a little more refined, a little more muted - but the performance is there for sure (at least with a stage 1 or more).
That intro was epic. All it was missing was a “lease yours now at your local VW dealer “ 😂 great video Mike!

Next cinematic video GTR vs Supra 🫡
It’d be sick. Too bad neither of our audience cares about that… Still be rad though, let’s do it.
@@LastLineOfDefenseI care, PLEASE MIKE
Loved the cinematography. Would love to see an update video on the golf.
more cinematic stuff like this for sure. That was excellent!
If anyone hasn’t mention yet. Check your oil level every 1,200 miles

Very nice!

THE DAY HAS COME!! I never thought it would be possible. Now I can stop bothering you 😂
I have a current one (2024) with a slight tune and it’s absolutely fantastic.
I wanna see that level of cinematography for each of the trucks!
Dude the cinematic is insane. Loved it.

Great video. I love my R and overlanding/camping. Now Im doing life backwards lol. I own my dream R and now im trying to afford a toyota tacoma hahaha
That's a dope build. I'm shopping for an MK7/7.5 as we speak.
Great video and am glad that I came across it as a fellow VW Golf R MK7 2017 model owner.

This video was sick. And that's from someone who hates lowered cars.
I miss my focus rs man. It was fast and fun… now I have this 4Runner for a daily which I like for different reasons.

Yeah, but the truck does so much more!

Now that’s flexing creativity 💯
I've been waiting for this to drop for a long time, haha. I've been wanting one of these since ripping them on GranTurismo 3.
Haha they're fun little cars for sure - maybe more so in real life.
Excuse my language but what in the actual fuck… what a beautiful intro! Great job! 👏🏻

I'll watch anything about anything not made by ford.... very cool !
Fudge! How did I miss you had an .:R? Nice 👍
And sorry for the correction but it's "mark 8", not "emm-kay 8". 🎉
Dayum that was some saaawweeet b-roll!
Terrific video….thanks!
Sweet Golf R!
