I am a small town girl (less than 2000 people!) in the south (double whammy!) so vegan is absolutely ridiculous to try to do…but I do. Thank goodness for shipping! You have no idea how much you have helped me on this journey! I hate investing in an expensive item hoping I will like it and praying I don’t have to chunk it in the trash after the first taste test, because some items aren’t cheap. You guys and I are totally in sync flavor wise and I appreciate you two so VERY VERY much, so THANK YOU! 🥰

@@Malabustacie nestle owns/ has a monopoly on most water sources, they charge ridiculous prices on water too, most countries they are the only source, in Africa the water, and the powder baby formula is Nestle, and it's way too expensive, either the mother spends her last on the formula, and clean water, or her baby starves. Nestle is a multi billion, or trillion dollar corporation, they get rich off of poor people, needing clean water, and formula, at expensive amounts of money! I believe this is what they are talking about. I'm not 100% sure of all the details, I'm probably missing allot here, but I seen a story on nestle years ago, written by an ex employee, and it mentioned what I said here, but in more extensive details, look it up on line, or here on TH-cam, so you can see 4 yourself.

Athough I understand not wanting to support companies like Nestle, I don't think that it is very good idea to do that as a vegan. The more we support companies like this when they start making vegan products, the more they will make, the more that will be on the market etc.. This only HELPS the animals and the vegan movement. I think it's very short sighted to not support these companies by purchasing their vegan products. These companies also have the ability and resources to create some really great vegan products, that again will only help turn more people vegan. You should rethink your approach if you are serious about wanting to end animal suffering. When vegans don't support these companies for these changes, no one else will and they won't make them anymore. They will continue then to put more money into research and development of foods containing animal products. It's incredibly important for the animals that we support the vegan products they produce. Just my two cents.

I wish there was youtube and your channel years and years ago when i was vegetarian in my teens to late 20s. The sheer lack of support from family, community, friends and no real support groups or even vast vegan/vegetarian options to buy, cookbooks, channels etc I sadly fell. Alot of people say I was not really a Vegetarian/Vegan for the real reasons. So not true. I know my heart. I dont know how i found your channel but when I did i felt comfortable and supported right away and went right back into my old ways. Vegan from that day forward till now and always. This didn't go as bad as I expected, and it went pretty bad! 😅 You would think since bacon and cheese are the top foods preventing people from going vegan that there would be some better options out there. 😒
I do like the Sweet Earth one, although I do understand your issue with Nestle. They're a terrible company. I didn't know Sweet Earth was owned by them until kinda recently. I still think it's better to support vegan options, even from bad companies, just to bring up demand for more plant based foods. That being said, I haven't bought Sweet Earth in, like, 6 months.
I should try the Lightlife Smart Bacon. I've only tried the Tempeh Bacon and I don't care for it. I also just don't miss bacon that much. 🤷

Best version can be made at home in 5 easy steps:
    1. Get 1 block of smoked tofu (400g)
    2. Slice the smoked tofu bacon-thin strips with a mandoline (do not cut yourself!)
    3. marinate in 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp avocado oil, 2 tbsp nutritional yeast, and tsp liquid smoke in a zip lock bag for 2hrs
    4. Bake at on a slipat baking sheet (and tray) for 10 mins at 350
    5. Turn and bake for another 5-10 mins. Let cool and store.
Lasts ~ 7-10 days in the fridge. Great on BLTs

The lightlife smart bacon I bought was so stuck together, I usually had to make more pieces than I needed just to get them separated! The taste was very turkey bacon-y, but I actually like that flavor so it wasn't bad with the crisp. Maybe the tempeh would be better.

  • @michelethomas324
    @michelethomas324 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I know you said you don’t support Nestle so I’m not sure if you ever did and tried Sweet Earth before but I can tell you it tastes something like a mix of the 2 bad ones from the first round (Soy Boy & the seitan). The smoke flavor is pretty high, the texture is like doughy in the center and burned to a crisp on the edges, it falls apart when you peel it, it’s messy as hell… long story short, you’re not missing anything! Only other non-meat bacon I ever had was Morningstar Farms a few years ago and to me it tasted like bitter flavored felt. Wasn’t something I wanted to purchase again.
That Hooray looked like fruit leather! The others in that group, I agree, didn’t look anything like bacon. Even the ones that tried to do “fat streaks” looked horrible! You have me interested in the All Vegetarian Co bacon tho. I’ve seen the Lightlife bacon but for some reason, it doesn’t draw me in so I walk past it all the time. Maybe I’ll grab a pack next time especially because I stopped eating pork when I was 12 so I’m very used to the taste of Turkey bacon. 👍🏽 🥓

All Vegetarian Inc. is 🔥. I tear them in half vertically, cook them in a little oil until they're brown, then drain on a paper towel (I tear instead of cut because I realized the rougher edge makes them wavy as they cook. Fun, but not necessary lol). The Thrilling is good, just grainy & too costly for what you get, especially when All Vegetarian's exists; It's like all they did was season & color some tofu. I read the reviews on Thrilling's bakon beforehand, so I was mindful of its fragility & I found that you really have to use 2 hands or 4 fingers to keep it uniform from package to pan. The level of meticulousness how I imagine one would cook The Queen's bacon 😒🤣.

I want to try the Thrilling and the All Vegetarian. I currently make rice paper bacon, and I like that a lot, but it would be nice to just be able to have a package in the fridge that I don’t have to make ahead of time.
Have you ever made rice paper bacon? A heads up that I’ve figured out, I can make a batch on the weekend, up to when I would fry it, then I can keep the strips in a Pyrex dish with a lid, and pull them out and make however many I want though out the week. 😊

Yeah I stated in the comments that I've tried all the bacon except Thrilling brand and none are good but the best vegan bacon so far is rice paper bacon. I use the square rice paper.lightly wet them.cut in double or triple layer strips.dip in the bacon 'broth' and then fry or bake. Looks almost like bacon. Great crispy BLT or wrap around veggies like asparagus

@@dianew7058 wrapping around veggies is a great idea! Do you just bake or grill the veggies like normal with or around them? I used to love bacon wrapped asparagus!! 😋😋 I did wrap the rice paper bacon around a Field Roast Stadium Dog once for a bacon wrapped hot dog that was yummy! 😊

Im curious if you've done an update to the vegan bacon. Only bacon I've ever really liked is Morningstar Farms and I like the ease. My attempts at making other forms of bacon from rice paper or carrots end up either burnt or not crispy. I agree with someone else's comment that as much as people say they miss bacon and cheese when they go vegan, you'd think there would be many options out there.

Pleeeze consider the fact that not all Vegans are sooo obsessed with the cost of the product, the majority are looking for the best tasting Vegan options. Also, could you please let your viewers know how many calories and grams of protein are in the product. You put so much emphasis on the allergies in the product. Also, you tend to ramble a lot. Please be more concise as your videos tend to drone on.
