I agree with you both. I also like field roast. Your description of Litelife was dead on about the texture and skin. I just deal with it when I can't find Field Roast. Great content as always. Keep it coming.
Aldi’s aren’t bad, but our favorite now is Worthington. It contains, soy, wheat and egg, so not vegan. We first cooked them in a pan and they were fine. Microwave turned them into jerky. Best result actually came from boiling. Also, ketchup does not go on hot dogs! 😜
The beyond sausage original brats are the best to me. We eat them like hotdogs, sometimes we add grilled onions and peppers. We also love to use the beyond brats as a filling for potstickers! I chop them up to a crumble and saute with shallot, ginger, garlic, scallions, shredded carrot, little hoisen sauce, little tamari, little soy sauce, and a little sushi vinegar. All mixed makes an amazing potsticker filling!
Interestingly I’m not a huge fan of the original field roast frankfurters, although I do really like them in their mini corn dogs! However, I absolutely love the new field roast stadium dogs for the times when I want a hot dog! I honestly couldn’t tell they are a substitute! I think it’s awesome that field roast has come up with more options! ❤️😊
I am under a month into giving up meat and dairy. The field roast stadium hotdogs are hands-down the best meat substitute I’ve discovered so far. I air fry them then eat them with kimchi and vegan mayo. So freaking good!
I used to like Field Roast but after I started eating Beyond Brat as a hot dog I can't even tolerate Field Roast. It just tastes like straight up wheat to me. Beyond Brat is insanely good although probably not good for people who are grossed out by vegan foods that truly mimic meat. Tip: fry up the beyond sausage brat in Cajun seasoning and it makes it even better! Also, you guys are always so fun to watch!
Hi everyone! I just wanted to add that the Field Roast original dogs are carrageenan free while the stadium dogs by Field Roast do contain carrageenan. It’s pretty high up on the list. I am painfully carrageenan intolerant and many people are. If you are too, I hope this helps. Thanks for another awesome review!
We buy Lightlife, but to be honest I haven't tried anything else (in 6 years vegan 😳). I love them! They remind me of the cheap hot dogs we got in school lunches and stuff. Growing up my parents never bought the expensive "100% beef" hotdogs, so the cheap flavor/texture is very nostalgic to me. I do want to try the Field Roast one after watching this though.
Thank you for this! I DO NOT like those super flavorful hot dogs like beef hot dogs and Nathan's. I like the cheap, mildly flavored hot dogs. I will definitely try the Lightlife now!
first off, you guys are so adorable!!! i'm so glad you included this vid in your email newsletter. i am at a loss on how we're ever going to have a hot dog again in our lives. we finally found one that we loved (Field Roast Classic Smoked) and now we cannot find it in any of our local stores. you must not be experiencing that in your area. can you mail us a few packs? ;) otherwise, we'll look for an alternative based on your choices.
My favorite are the field roast classic ones. We've seen the stadium ones at the store and I'm glad I watched this first. I like to chop them up and put them in my homemade baked beans. Thank you these review videos are so helpful and have saved us so much money on bad vegan subs.
I'll be honest with you two I can't stand listening to people eat and the noise they noise they make BUT for some reason I love listening to you guys eat... it's absolutely the best thanks for all your fantastic videos!
Eating apple sage field roast sausage right now scrambled with white potatoes, sweet onions, and green yellow and red peppers with cucumbers in vinegar on the side. It all goes so good together. One of my fav meals
I swear we have similar palates. My top one all day is field roast classic Frankfurters, and my second would be Tofurky, those are really good, too. Of the line up the only other one's I've tried are the Lightlife, and those would definitely come in last place for me of the 3. I've grown to like Lightlife hotdogs, but I remember the first time I tried them years ago, I thought they tasted like plastic barbie legs lol. I'm excited to try the Upton's and I didn't know Field roast had new ones, I'll keep an eye out for them. Great video!!!
the field roast stadium dogs are sooo good with pickles and mustard, taste like a real hot dog imo!!! :) when I cook them, they turn out very dark but super yummy. these are the real deal
I have been vegan for a year and a half and what I miss most is cold sandwiches. I have not got up the nerve to try deli meats, so I would love to see that video also.
I’ve been looking for a good hotdog substitute and your review helped a lot. I bought the field roast, popped them in the air fryer for a few minutes, and they were delicious!
as someone who isn't fully vegan and has had a real hotdog in the past year, i can say a "snap" and a chewy "skin" on the outside yet soft on the inside is the best comparison!! that's exactly how it's suppose to be to the real deal so if some of these are actually giving you those textures, that's impressive. i've always wanted to try one of these brands but was skeptical they would taste too strange.
Haven't tried any! Your video makes me want to try field roast. Again, I like the phone close up shots😁 What do the girls think of the various hot dogs?
I've never tried vegan not dogs, so I was really looking forward to your video. I'll be looking for the field roast. My husband will be thrilled, since he really misses not dogs! Thank you so much for doing this taste test. You two are such a sweet couple. ☺
Yes..for sure.. Field Roast! I keep them in the freezer next to Morningstar Grillers, Lamb Weston Fries, Violife Cheese and Green Giant Riced Veggies. All Frozen and quickly turn into vegan fast food alternatives for hot dogs, burgers, pizza, chinese and mexican wraps. My bread of choice is Ole Extreme Wellness wraps, low carb and last a long time in the fridge.
Love your detailed explanations of products, especially the new close-ups with Andrews cell! I've tried different varieties and nothing compares, the taste is off putting. Love making carrot dogs instead, plus it's inexpensive! Thank you again, love you guys! Have a blessed day.
Thanks for this, yal opinions are really helpful! So I've had the lightlife hotdogs and the fieldroast corndogs (I just looked in my freezer and they apparently use the field roast classic). Now that I know this I do like the field roast better. I agree that the lightlife have this really weird skin. Its kind of tough rubbery and it always bubbles. I'm definitely going to buy regular field roast classic hotdogs now for Memorial Day weekend and see how the skin compares since I've only ever had their corndog version!
Yep, my toddler man child is 45!😆 The only hotdogs that I have tried are the ones from Aldi. I like them. Have you guys tried those before? I will be on the hunt for the Field roast dogs. Thanks for sharing 😊
I have never seen Tofurky hot dogs but I looooove the Field Roast ones. I started noticing the stadium dogs in store, but I think I will just stick to the classic ones.
The new field roast in the blue package are my faaaaavorite they taste like what I remember a hotdog tasting like, so good with grilled onions and peppers.🙌 Sadly I hate all the sausage field roast ones. 🥲
Grew up not eating hot dogs except for breakfast with eggs. We would eat hot Italian sausages (the spices paired perfectly with a tortilla as well 🤤), so now we eat the Beyond Hot Italian and make Mexican style hot dogs (bacon wrapped, pretzel buns, serrano/jalapeño, melted cheese, sauteed onions, ketchup, mayo and mustard!). Definitely recommend! You can of course mix condiments. :) Thanks for the video! Definitely going to try Field Roast dogs!
My favorite are the Upton's, although I often get the Aldi ones since I'm there more often. Also, you two are so funny in this video! Live all the laughter!
Thanks for sharing! Is the Classic Smoked Field Roast any better than their Caramelized Onion & Beer one? I’ve enjoyed every other Field Roast product I’ve tried, but that one is inedible, so I’m reluctant to branch out again.
I live with a really picky manchild. Will that do? If he doesn't like the look of his food, he will walk off in a huff! And, of course, being from the UK, I have not seen any of the hotdogs featured in your video. However, we are starting to see some vegan hotdogs on the supermarket shelves, in time for the summer, if it ever stops raining. My personal go to hotdog atm is Moving mountains.
Lightlife tastes like what i remember Gwatney chicken dogs tasting like to me, which is what my niblings eat at their omnivore home. When I get them Lightlife hot dogs they can't tell the difference.
The soy ones were grilled (because we don't liked boiled so grill was the second option listed) and the others were recommended in a skillet so that's how they were done
Top 4 vegan hot dogs on the market (Hands down) rn are Impossible Hot Dogs, Oscar Meyer Plant-Based hot dogs, Field Roast Classic Smoked, and Morningstar Farms Veggie (Vegan) dogs. These are the tastiest and closest to tasting like the real deal.
The Stadium Field Roast Hot dog reminds me of a Hebrew National Hot Dog. It's my kids favorite. I grew up on Nathan's because I'm a Queens NY girl, but I refuse to spend $40 to try them. I'll wait until they come in the store.
Haven’t tried the field roast. But I did NOT like the Litehouse. I bought the Nathan’s via your link, and they are my FAVE so far. It’s firm like you mentioned, but I’d rather have firm, than soft.
So i love the field roast until I ate the Nathan hotdog based off your video, it came very fast btw. I dont want the soy but the price is crazy and it was funny because I bought the 12 pack and they gave me the buns and mustard anyway. I didnt eat the buns and they were hard asf in the bag lol love yall content as always. Peace
Interesting that you like Fieldroast the best. I never tried any of these so thanks. But what I have found incredibly delicious are Fieldroast Mini Corndogs. They are in frozen foods department of Walmart, Jewel, Woodmans, etc etc I always keep the mini corndogs in my freezer. Have served them to non- vegans and non vegetarians and they are gone within minutes. SOOOOO good. Also, so easy in the oven....set on a pyrex or other oven baking Dish and cook 10-20 minutes. I do NOT even turn them. Should be slightly crusty on outside. You can also microwave or air fry them. Try the frozen Fieldroast Mini Corndogs.
I love Lightlife, which I boil--neener, neener--because it reminds me of school lunch hot dogs. That pink slimey, Prague Powder-tinted, mealy, smokey, weenie crap, yum! Had no idea about some of these other brands, so will keep them in mind for the upcoming holiday weekend. TFP!
I do have a question after checking the store locator on your website. How did you grill them? Do you use foil or a silicon sheet to lay them on? I just wondered if they would fall apart on the grill itself? Thanks again. ☺
I like the Field Roast Stadium dogs for flavor, though they're pricier than Lite Life. I'm generally not a fan of Field Roast sausage products. I'd like to try the Beyond Brat, but the cost is prohibitive for folks that need more servings. Thanks for the video!
After grilling both Field Roast franks over the Memorial Day holiday, I do agree that the classic ones are better right off the grill BUT the Stadium ones a few days later do taste better IMO.
I actually love the light life ones haha, just tried the Field Roast originals and personally was not a fan. I cooked mine on the stove and the texture felt off haha
I'm going to Try both types of Field Roast hot dogs. I doubt if I will try Nathan's because seriously, it can be what I know Nathan's hot dog to be living in New York, and I have not eaten meat in nearly eight years, so it's just out of here. Looking at the expressions, I guess I will put my onions, mustard, and Sauerkraut or Chow Chow on some grilled salmon and be A dairy Dairy free Pescetarian. 🌞
I also live with a toddler man child 😂 btw, haven’t yet heard of Nathan’s hot dog so I’ll be looking out for it. I think that’s the brand you mentioned
I really like the Feildroast Frankfurters. The smoky ones that you all tried are really good as well. I wrapped the Frankfurters and some vegan cheese in biscuit dough for “pigs in a blanket” and it was a nice snack
Tell us your favorite and if you agree with us!
I agree with you both. I also like field roast. Your description of Litelife was dead on about the texture and skin. I just deal with it when I can't find Field Roast. Great content as always. Keep it coming.
Yes.. so far it field roast smoked for me.. So I fully agree.. and Andrews humor gets me every single time.
I like Morningstar Farms on the George Foreman grill. 🤷🏻♀️
My favorite is you guys! 💓🤣 ... and field roast, the first one

I love beyond sausage.. All of them.. But they not hot dogs..
I like them too, but they're not hot dogs/franks.
It's not a hotdog though

The Field Roast mini corn dogs are also sooo good!! ✨🤗
Yes!
I love the corn dogs. They are so good.
I agree
Glad you mentioned this as I'm currently looking for vegan corn dogs.
Love the Field Roast. They are soooo good.

This is the vegan hotdog video I've been waiting for. Thank you!
You're so welcome! Hope you find one
AndREW!!!! Ur closeups MUST be in all vids from now on!!!!! They r my fav part now😆 love ur detailed explanations.....thanks guys....God is LoVe

Field Roast Classic smoked for me is God-tier.
Beyond Meat cooks up impressively, but for me always had a strange aftertaste that I didn't enjoy.
Thank you for this video! I've only ever had the Lightlife ones. I'm going to be buying the Field Roast Classic tonight!
the field roast stadium dogs are sooo good with pickles and mustard, taste like a real hot dog imo!!! :) when I cook them, they turn out very dark but super yummy. these are the real deal
more toppings needed, noted LOL
Awesome job guys. Next up, plant based deli meats (Tofurky hickory slices are my favorite so far).
I have been vegan for a year and a half and what I miss most is cold sandwiches. I have not got up the nerve to try deli meats, so I would love to see that video also.
@@MrsIEllis Tofurkey hickory smoked slices are amazing!!!
Have you tried the Tofurky peppered deli slices?! We liked those a lot
@@MakeItDairyFree I did, but prefer the hickory flavor. They have the ham slices also but I never liked ham, so I never tried it.

Great to hear!
We like to boil our hot dogs, Fieldroast and then stick them on the BBQ. Our cooking method ( I feel) makes them more juicy :)
Agreed. Putting the Field Roast on the grill straight out of the package makes them too dry.
I will be trying that!
How long do you boil them???
@@DonovanJLLias You'll know they're ready because they will look & feel like they soaked up some of the water. And they'll be hot.

I use tofurkey more as like sausage mixed in my meals like gumbo rice ect. As for hotdogs, field roast is my #1
Nice

Field Roast are our go to dogs as well. We just had them two nights ago!

Are Field Roast hot dogs sold refrigerated or frozen? I've seen both and am confused. If.frozen, how do we.cook and defrost? Thank you.
usually fridge. But if frozen just let them thaw. then cook

I really like the Feildroast Frankfurters. The smoky ones that you all tried are really good as well. I wrapped the Frankfurters and some vegan cheese in biscuit dough for “pigs in a blanket” and it was a nice snack
Oh yum!
What about Be Leaf?
Definitely more options out there
Hilarious. Thanks for another great video. Field roast are the best when it comes to plant based Hot Dogs.
