Gardein has never let me down with flavor or texture. I love thdir fish fillets for fish tacos or fish and fries with homemade tartar sauce. I have tried the loma linda tuno and did not like it at all lol i'd rather make mock tuna with smashed chickpeas
The Tuno was really really bad. I think they got it right by calling it No. And yeah, so far, chickpeas make a better tuna salad than anything I've found.

Mac and cheese definitely goes with fish sticks! I thought that was the only thing that was served with them 😂 And mayo definitely goes in tuna salad. I never liked mayo, only in tuna salad though.
Y’all save me so much money with these videos and I’m so grateful! Y’all give truthful reviews and have great taste in food. You two made transitioning to a vegan lifestyle a lot easier than I could ever imagined.
I just used the Gardein fish to make tacos (tortillas, shredded cabbage, Old Bay hot sauce, guac, and non-dairy sour cream). Thank you and yum...best quick lunch in ages.
Gardein has the best fish stuff, their crab cakes are the best option by far in this space! And yes, fish sticks with mac and cheese is a staple for kids here in Cali! Lots of Love to everyone!
Really dreading this . . . and surprised that Worthington's "accidental" fish burger did not make another appearance! Thanks for soldiering through this, you two, and ThanksForPosting!
I have just found your TH-cam channel a couple of months ago, and catching up on the great info you guys have given! Plus I've been waiting for so long to find a vegan seafood review! Thank you so much for doing this!
We also always had fish sticks with mac-n-cheese. I mean, not all mixed together like a casserole or something, but yes. Dinner would be fish sticks, mac-n-cheese, then something green, like green beans.
Exactly! When I was a kid I thought I hated green beans because we only ever had them canned. When I got out and found fresh green beans I discovered I actually kind love them!
I'm content with gardein's seafood options since i never liked seafood in general before. I also wasn't raised eating any pork so I don't like those products regardlessof if they taste similar or not. Mock chicken is basically perfect in my opinion lol so i want them to keep working on more complex mock beef products like steak strips, kabobs, etc. The one gardein product that i don't enjoy very much is their beef tips, the texture is too mushy and flavor is off, even when i marinate it.
I've wanted to try the gardein crab cakes for so long but cannot ever find them! There's a new vegan habachi place down the road and I am dying to try their shrimp bowl. I always had mayo and tuna with relish as tuna salad for sandwich

I’ve only had the Gardein seafood products, Good Catch, and the Quorn fish sticks. I am honestly quite skeptical of vegan seafood products mainly cause I loved seafood before going vegan and I grew up right by the Chesapeake Bay and had crab cakes just about every summer as a kid. I do hope companies making vegan seafood products can get some really good products out within the next 3-5 years.
@@MakeItDairyFree Lol, yeah that's the one. I didn't realize it had been discontinued. I only tried it the one time and as you know wasn't in a rush to buy it again.
Gardein fish less filets are bomb..so good...especially Southern style in a sandwich with pickles, mustard and onion slices. Even the meat eaters love it.
I used to love seafood, thank you so much for doing this. Gardein is always so consistent and yummy!! Can’t wait to go look for some of their stuff. I had some vegan shrimp recently and it was so strange lol I’ll probably never eat it again.
Thanks for doing this for us! 😊 I haven’t tried the Good Catch yet, although I’ve heard that the one in oil is actually the best. I just can’t bring myself to go there. I found a recipe that uses jackfruit to make homemade tuna salad that I’m going to try. I’m also ordering a new brand of vegan seafood I found online called Mind Blown. I’m hoping for the best! Gardein definitely needs to expand on their seafood. I love their fishless fillets as a fish sandwich! 😋
I’ve always hated seafood except shrimp but ever since Iv seen documentaries on it I’m like no mam on even vegan alternatives, but Im still watching this video because I enjoy watching you guys lol 😁
Did I miss the salmon review? I have some in my freezer to make sushi with and had such high hopes! I think Ms.Sophie has dropped the ball. 😔 I love you guys together! Andrew makes me feel “not so extra” for being mad picky! lol
Tuna salad...canned tuna, mayo, salt and pepper, maybe some onion and celery. And bagels and lox is usually with cream cheese and is usually associated as a NY jewish deli food. 😁 Oh and canned chick peas mushed together with mayo etc makes a great tuna salad alternative
That’s so funny about fish sticks😂 where i live they are like a kid’s food that we used to eat when adults were eating something fancy we didn’t want haha
You guys crack me up. I have tried most of the products you had in your video and I have to agree with you that tuna is a big disappointment. I was never much of a shrimp person, I could not stand the texture; the vegan version is not better. To me the big winner are the Gardein fish sticks. Lately I am unable to find them at the supermarket, I hope they didn't get discontinued. Have a great day!
I've been curious about a lot of these products as the only one I've eaten happens to be the Gardein filets. Thank you for confirming my fears on the rest! And by the way... the gardein filets are fantastic chopped up into 3 or 4 pieces and put into fish tacos. Oh, and yes... fish sticks and Mac n cheese was definitely a childhood dinner for this Florida girl.
Gardein for the win! Agreed. But Good Catch makes a decent crab cake .please, don’t get the fish burgers from them unless you love very fishy taste. I always liked fish but those are too much. I used to eat a couple of tablespoons of tuna salad almost everyday and there’s nothing out there eatable. I’ll have chickpea/ hearts of palm/little dulse flakes combo any day. With plenty of mayo, little red onion, celery, parsley, lemon juice and a couple of capers finely chopped. Again, thanks for your service. I always wanted to try the Sophie’s brand and you just saved the $. I guess that’s the point of these videos. 🙏🏼👍🏼👏🏼
The only one that we tried was the Gardein crabless patties. We really liked them. I can't wait to try the Beyond Chicken tenders. Thank you for doing these taste tests. It's a big help. ☺
Andrew is extra and we all live for it!!! Gardein are my go to because those are the only ones I can find where I live. Did the kids taste and like any?
My tuna replacement is chickpeas, put them in the food processor, roughly chop. I season with multi seasoning, garlic, mayo and mustard and a pinch of sugar. Tuna never had a fishy flavoring to me so it was perfect.
I'm a little late to the party here, but two comments: If you grew up in Los Angeles in the 70's/80's, and you ate in the cafeteria, Friday school lunch was almost always 4 fish sticks with a stripe of ketchup across them. On the side I think there was a roll and mixed veggies (usually cubes of carrot, corn and green beans) and I can't remember what else. Also: I still find it funny that the British call tuna salad "tuna mayo." And in my travels to the UK, where prepared sandwiches are super common and consumed by everyone (not just those brave enough to eat them from 7-11 or the like) I found that they put corn (or "sweet corn" as it's called there) in their tuna salad. Sounds weird... but it's actually really tasty!
I always thought it as more of a "PO" thing and a kids thing. For us growing up it was both. We had box of mac and cheese and fish sticks for dinner a lot because it fed a lot. I still like both just the adult versions. ;o)
That brand isn’t terrible. They have a few flavors. The Mediterranean one is probably the better of them. It doesn’t really taste like tuna, but it’s okay if you’re missing tuna salad or the like.
I completely get what you are saying Larisha. Growing up we ate fish sticks, mac and cheese and some sort of vegetable. For whatever reason, whenever we ate fish sticks, there was always mac and cheese or fries. Love the video by the way, you guys are great at what you do.
I'm southern - Mac n cheese and fish sticks are a thing. Tuna is usually prepared with something crunchy like relish or celery. And only children eat fish sticks with ketchup. Lol
Mayo definitely in tuna, with a little spicy mustard and dill relish. My ex used to eat it with just oilve oil and salt and pepper. I always thought that was weird.
OMG!!! I had tears in my eyes because I was laughing so hard… as soon as I saw Sophie’s I was like There’s no Way That They are going to like Sophie’s and then the taste testing began 🤦🏾♀️😂😂…I tried it once and was so annoyed with Sophie she didn’t even try 😒… but the Gardein crab bites are the closest I’ve come to that seafood taste that I miss so much since becoming vegan
Sophie's Kitchen shrimp have to be seasoned very well. Then it's really good, this first time I tried it I didn't like it myself but after adding Obay it was really good. Gardein is on point with the fish.
4:44 I get you Andrew! I never liked tuna in any shape or form :D I must say, I feel sorry for you tasting these. Even plant-based alternatives don't seem appetising too me ;P
The shrimp is probably strange due to the konjac - that makes the shrimp texture. In Philadelphia, there are these amazing (and cheap like $5 for 500 grams) vegan shrimp balls that are made out of konjac that you can get at the First Oriental Market on Washington Ave. I agree that the Gardein fish fillets are great!
Thanks for the video I haven't tried any of the tuna and now I am happy 😊... I haven't tried any of the fish sticks yet but will take your recommendations. .. the crab cakes I like both versions you tried the gardien ones I make stuff mushrooms out of then the Sophie's I actually like them. The shrimp I have only found the Sophie's and they are not that great I still try to find a good vegan version of shrimp... your videos and always informative and very entertaining. Yes I Andrew we need better bacon 🥓 I missed it the most
I'm not vegan but trying to eat more plant-based and vegans foods. I do like some seafood and I'm sorry, no way can I even bring myself to try vegan seafood. I've been curious about it but just can't do it. Thank you for being brave and trying these foods. You've made it very clear to not even try it lol.
Lol you guys crack me up. Andrew is looking like he's going to vomit while Larisha unfazed hands over the paper towel trying to give her opinion lol Honestly I like the Gardein crab cakes. I think I'll give the fish filet a try
We really like the Gardein Fish Fillets, all the rest, no go! Thanks for stepping up snd doing these taste tests! Save a lot of us some misery! Growing up we used tuna for sandwiches and tuna casserole
I’m feeling both of you on the fish sticks. Not an upper class go-to food but yes with Mac and Cheese. KRAFT mac & Cheese. Even in Massachusetts. And with ketchup. And yes mayo in tuna with celery, onion and dill pickles chopped up. I’m reliving my childhood now lol. Ok ima go watch the rest now…
I grew up in Georgia, and we had mac & cheese with fish sticks all the time! And ketchup, too. Of course. 😊 I prefer tuna with mayo, but I will eat it with just salt sometimes as long as it is the kind packed in water. NEVER the kind packed in oil, which is just too greasy for me.
As far as the crab cakes go, I have had the two you tested, AND the ones from Good Catch. Honestly, I’d rate them as follows: 3rd Place: Sophie’s Kitchen 2nd Place: Gardein 1st Place: Good Catch If you can find the Good Catch crab cakes and are in the mood, I recommend checking them out. Also, if you’re really craving tuna, just make chickpea tuna. It’s just chickpeas, vegan mayo, nori/kelp flakes, salt, and (optional) sweet relish. It’s pretty good!
yeah gardein filets are pretty good..too greasy, though. their crab cakes are decent too..but don't taste like crab cakes. the good shrimp I've had is made with konjac. I hope to try Zalmon one day!
Fish stick, better known in the UK as fish fingers, used to love them myself with tomato ketchup or baked beans. But oddly enough I couldn't eat any food now with a fish taste.
Y’all, got to take the gardein crab less cakes stick them in in vegan cream cheese and wonton wrappers and BOOM awesome crab Rangoon. Thanks for this awesome video!
In Britain fish sticks are called "fish fingers" but the "posh version" is "fish goujons" and I have seen this replicated in vegan "fish" products too.
@@MakeItDairyFree I am not a big mock "fish stick" eater I suspect that in the land of fish and chips Britain That the vegans might demand higher quality products as it is a staple of the British diet.
My family always had tuna with mayo, diced celery & onions and spices on white bread or crackers 😋 And the Bagel w/ lox (I think bagels in general) are of Jewish origin! I am a sucker for an everything bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and capers! The brine from the capers really pulls it together for me, but I used to eat salmon often. I've yet to find a good vegan smoked salmon though 😥
I am weak…..Andrew said Lox, you mean like dread locks…..I cannot. I am so glad I found this video tonight. I prefer using hearts of palm and mushrooms for my seafood like substitutes but honestly I don’t like any seafood substitutes that I loves. The one thing that came close was Gardein fish quarters. BTW, I use to love tuna before being vegan. I made it with tuna, mayo, spicy relish and some S&P.
I also used to have fish ticks with Mac & Cheese!!! And as an adult, I used to have tuna with Mac & Cheese. As a kid, my mom would also put SPAM in with Mac & Cheese.
Aww Andrew, I know you said you'd never try tuna again but I wish you could try my "nuttin' like tuna". I get a lot of compliments even from non-vegans.😊
I agree that the Gardein products are good. They are hard to find but the Good Catch crab cakes are very delicious! (I never ate actual crab cakes so I can’t speak to its closeness to actual crab cakes.). I agree that their tuna does not taste like fish at all.
Have you tried any of these? Thoughts?
Lox and bagels is a Jewish specialty.

That brand isn’t terrible. They have a few flavors. The Mediterranean one is probably the better of them. It doesn’t really taste like tuna, but it’s okay if you’re missing tuna salad or the like.
Let us know what you think
I completely get what you are saying Larisha. Growing up we ate fish sticks, mac and cheese and some sort of vegetable. For whatever reason, whenever we ate fish sticks, there was always mac and cheese or fries. Love the video by the way, you guys are great at what you do.
thank you so much!
Thank you. You win the most selfless, taking one for the team award.
I'm southern - Mac n cheese and fish sticks are a thing.
Tuna is usually prepared with something crunchy like relish or celery.
And only children eat fish sticks with ketchup. Lol
Gardein always wins for me. Enjoyed this video.
Mayo definitely in tuna, with a little spicy mustard and dill relish. My ex used to eat it with just oilve oil and salt and pepper. I always thought that was weird.
never had mustard, if we ever find a good one, i'll have to try it
Andrew cracking me up😂 drama King! I love y'all honest reviews
LOL!
Sophie didn't even try! LOL
You lost me with the jelly 😭 thank y’all for what you do!
Sophie's Kitchen shrimp have to be seasoned very well. Then it's really good, this first time I tried it I didn't like it myself but after adding Obay it was really good. Gardein is on point with the fish.
Good to know!
We always had mac and cheese with fish sticks too! Lol. We usually had peas too!
nice! See! not alone lol
4:44 I get you Andrew! I never liked tuna in any shape or form :D I must say, I feel sorry for you tasting these. Even plant-based alternatives don't seem appetising too me ;P
It was bad lol
The shrimp is probably strange due to the konjac - that makes the shrimp texture. In Philadelphia, there are these amazing (and cheap like $5 for 500 grams) vegan shrimp balls that are made out of konjac that you can get at the First Oriental Market on Washington Ave.
I agree that the Gardein fish fillets are great!
Gardien "fish" makes great fish tacos.
I bet they would!
Yes I Andrew we need better bacon 🥓 I missed it the most
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy some of the products. Definitely hope we get a better shrimp
Growing up as a poor Asian, we would always eat canned tuna with rice, soy sauce and lemon juice. I still eat it to this day! Soooo good
Lol you guys crack me up. Andrew is looking like he's going to vomit while
Larisha unfazed hands over the paper towel trying to give her opinion lol
Honestly I like the Gardein crab cakes. I think I'll give the fish filet a try
The Gardein fish filets are DELICIOUS
We really like the Gardein Fish Fillets, all the rest, no go! Thanks for stepping up snd doing these taste tests! Save a lot of us some misery! Growing up we used tuna for sandwiches and tuna casserole
Yes to the Mac n cheese with fish sticks in WV! Thank you for the video.
I grew up on tuna and miracle whip with chopped pickles or relish… and chopped hard boiled eggs. Served on bread with ruffles as the side, my fam.
Ok ima go watch the rest now…
hahaha thanks for watching
I really love your taste test videos. Can you please try a Vegan Bacon Taste Test or Vegan Deli Slices Taste Test!!!
I grew up in Georgia, and we had mac & cheese with fish sticks all the time! And ketchup, too. Of course. 😊
I prefer tuna with mayo, but I will eat it with just salt sometimes as long as it is the kind packed in water. NEVER the kind packed in oil, which is just too greasy for me.
As far as the crab cakes go, I have had the two you tested, AND the ones from Good Catch.
Honestly, I’d rate them as follows:
3rd Place: Sophie’s Kitchen
2nd Place: Gardein
1st Place: Good Catch
If you can find the Good Catch crab cakes and are in the mood, I recommend checking them out.
Also, if you’re really craving tuna, just make chickpea tuna. It’s just chickpeas, vegan mayo, nori/kelp flakes, salt, and (optional) sweet relish. It’s pretty good!
we'll have to try to find them
We definitely are going to stick with our recipe for chickpea tuna on our site
yeah gardein filets are pretty good..too greasy, though. their crab cakes are decent too..but don't taste like crab cakes. the good shrimp I've had is made with konjac. I hope to try Zalmon one day!
Fish stick, better known in the UK as fish fingers, used to love them myself with tomato ketchup or baked beans. But oddly enough I couldn't eat any food now with a fish taste.
do you have any better brands over there?
@@MakeItDairyFree I don't know if id say better, but more and more vegan options are on offer now , some good some bad.
Yes mayo goes in tuna now and always.
Y’all, got to take the gardein crab less cakes stick them in in vegan cream cheese and wonton wrappers and BOOM awesome crab Rangoon. Thanks for this awesome video!
Vegan fish really haven’t come as far as all the other substitutes… LOL
Def doing that lol
Fishsticks and mac and cheese back-in-the-day yes girl me too! 👍😁
YESSSSSS
In Britain fish sticks are called "fish fingers"
but the "posh version" is "fish goujons"
and I have seen this replicated in vegan "fish" products too.
do yall have better products over there lol
@@MakeItDairyFree
I am not a big mock "fish stick" eater
I suspect that in the land of fish and chips
Britain
That the vegans might demand higher quality products
as it is a staple of the British diet.
My family always had tuna with mayo, diced celery & onions and spices on white bread or crackers 😋
And the Bagel w/ lox (I think bagels in general) are of Jewish origin! I am a sucker for an everything bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and capers! The brine from the capers really pulls it together for me, but I used to eat salmon often. I've yet to find a good vegan smoked salmon though 😥
Yes we ate Mac and cheese with fish sticks in Pa when i was growing up!
We used to have fish sticks and box mac and cheese. It was our favorite as kids.
I enjoyed the Quorn fish sticks besides the price point! I think it was definitely the nostalgia of it all..
Definitely
I haven’t tried many vegan fish options. I am curious
I also used to have fish ticks with Mac & Cheese!!! And as an adult, I used to have tuna with Mac & Cheese. As a kid, my mom would also put SPAM in with Mac & Cheese.
never had spam, but definitely not surprised there!
@@MakeItDairyFree I drew the line when my mom tried to add pineapple to Mac & Cheese🤢
nooooooo @@MaireGraves
@@MakeItDairyFree 🤣
Aww Andrew, I know you said you'd never try tuna again but I wish you could try my "nuttin' like tuna". I get a lot of compliments even from non-vegans.😊
maybe for you!
@@MakeItDairyFree 😅heard😅
I agree that the Gardein products are good. They are hard to find but the Good Catch crab cakes are very delicious! (I never ate actual crab cakes so I can’t speak to its closeness to actual crab cakes.). I agree that their tuna does not taste like fish at all.
We will have to look for it
