By today's standards Mary & John both look as though they've been constantly at the gym, but no gym needed when doing good old fashioned hard work and it's also free, no membership fees required!

This is how me and my husband works, almost every day!
When we were 16, I told my future husband I wanted a white picket fence. 16 years later, after finding our forever property, he and our 13 year old son built me a fence for mothers day. Our son is 45 now, and the fence needed to be replaced. I cried like a baby when my husband took it down. He said he'll build me another one, and I would love it if our son did this with him.

Gosh Mary....so much work goes into landscaping and John did such a great job. You two created a beautiful, beautiful sloping rock garden and picket fence flower garden. I ❤your videos Mary and I do indeed remember spring houses. My grandparents had a farm....some of my best memories.

My husband often doesn't understand my 'vision' for future projects, projects usually stress him out. I do a lot of them on my own.
I was going to say John works hard but has the bobcat as a bonus tool! Giving my hubby husband of the year, he dug out grass and we laid gravel and flagstone on our own for a fire pit patio- it was a lot of physical, manual labour for 3 weeks!
Yes, we are blessed! As I sit here watching this wonderful video, my husband is in the next room remodeling our kitchen! ❤
I’m also blessed with a hubby who brings my ideas to fruition and we’re 2 days away from celebrating our 51st wedding anniversary ❤️

Isn't it the simple dreams realized that have the most impact!? I never told my husband the little things I wanted. He would come up with ideas and we'd decide. He always managed to make my dreams come true, one way or another. I will never forget those feelings of pure joy - that is what I saw on your face, Mary, when you had the fence up and plantings done. Those are life moments....

John, you are a master mason. The transformation to that nondescript driveway is magnificent. That certainly was a lot of hard work. Your attention to detail is exemplary. Once the flowers fill in, it’s going to be a showpiece area.

I have several of Marlene's plants growing like crazy in my garden! I haven't ordered anything for about a yr because i may move closer to my daughter who lives in the next state east of me. However you can bet i will be " shopping at Marlene's" once i move! I was so impressed how fast she shipped my items. I had them in my hands in less than 2 weeks! That is impressive considering how long many sellers take on etsy. Please give my best to Marlene 🧤🧤🧤🧤

Me too, I would love to order some plants, I think everything turned out so pretty and could see some creeping phlox and plumbago growing over the rocks.
Lucky to have a stronge hubby to help. I am like you and make all the plans n my hubby would help. Unfortunately he has Leukemia n is unable to help now. So I'll just enjoy your projects now.. IRELAND
Mary you are extremely blessed to have a wonderful husband like John. Does he ever complain? You two are amazing! The driveway and the picket fence is beautiful! Will you always have to water only with watering cans or can a hose reach as that would be a lot of work in the heat of the summer! Gorgeous though and would be worth it. Have a blessed day. I am always inspired to try something new - you have me obsessed now with furniture transfers! - and I appreciate how you speak with such respect for your husband and gratitude for his help and input when you want to work on something. So beautiful! My husband and I also landscape with rocks a neighbor lets us harvest from his rock creek. We live in extreme So. IL and I come from many generations of farmers in this area. We have the Shawnee Nat. Forest on two sides of us and bottom land on the other two sides. Your home always reminds me of ours…so I have pulled much inspiration from you! I only wish I had a master gardener sister like you do😊

What a fantastic idea Mary. I have something similar in my garden but every time I plant between the rocks they die. So recently somebody suggested to plant succulents so I am collecting some to put them out hope they finally I have something does not die on me. As I watch you install your white picket fence I keep saying to the screen " raise this sections up higher out of the soil!". The wood will rot faster touching the soil, than if lifted an inch or so higher. Plants will cover the space from view anyway. Ask me how I know ☹️. Hi Mary, we did a rock garden on our front hill. I wish that we had put in those little tiny stones first, because we do have grasses growing up between the rocks. You will absolutely love it as the plants fill in and I’m so excited about your picket fence project.
