- In this video, we visit the abandoned college occupied by Netflix for the past few years as the imaginary Moordale High School in their hit series 'Sex Education.' The building contains many props and iconography from the show as well as a well covering alarm system!

I worked on the site for 22 years and most of what you describe as film set was all original to the campus, other than decals and painting i recognise almost every part you filmed. Very fond memories of the site and the staff that worked there
I was a security guard here for a few weeks. Worst time of my life 😂 the place was like no other. Very haunted, you felt like you where being watched. Lots of weird noises in a ‘empty’ building. Also the sensor alarms always go off and you must to check with a little torch 😐 and walking through the vacant housing complex is very intimidating. This is all in the night. Whilst we had heavy snow. So your foot steps are very loud 😅

I was a student there. What a great place. The room you said looked like a canteen was the student bar. I worked in it! Only there for 12 months but great memories.
I went to uni here and studied documentary photography (which is the subject this campus is notoriously known for). For the people wondering about the missing context, it was called the University of Newport, South Wales, in Caerleon.
So many fond memories from this place, such a shame they tore down the rest of the campus. Crazy this video was recommended!
Man the SU was fantastic when I went. Tom was a great student president.
@@AshleyGlover Same dude, I was there 2012-2015 which I believe was the very last year open and the SU held it down right until the end. Loved going in for a cheeky pint after a lecture. How I wish I could rewind back.

A tense infiltration! Some beautiful architecture, the location being used as a film set is an interesting twist to the explore. Glad to see some original features remain.

It's quite a unique place, definitely something we haven't come across often. We have heard about TV corporations taking over abandoned buildings in the past, but have never seen it for ourselves. Nice one
It is where I went to Uni over 25 years ago. Some of the locations looked different but I can can still remember how they were. Thanks for the memories.
Thank you for continuing to be superb when it comes to accommodations/accessibility - accurate/edited closed captions are increasingly rare to find on TH-cam, with too many creators relying on the auto-subs/not bothering to even enable them!

Very cool to see all these different angles and learn about the history of the campus! I was lucky enough to be an extra for a couple of episodes but only got to see certain parts of the buildings. It was cool how the Netflix crew really made the most of all the spaces on campus - some of the interior shots of the Milburns' house were filmed in the abandoned sports hall which they'd turned into a nifty sound stage

I went to school down the road in Caerleon Comprehensive from 2014-2019, used to go past and the actors would give us a wave or a middle finger sometimes lol. Loved my time there tho!
Lovely building. I went to Uni here between ‘96-98, studying Graphic Arts. I have fond memories of sitting on that windowsill in the first floor bedroom you filmed, watching a thunderstorm with its lovely occupant.

Was looking forward to this one lads, and as usual you did not disappoint! It was interesting to see the building in its various guises and although its now empty and will no longer be used in education, at least it sounds like it will be preserved in some way even if it is turned into housing as its an amazing building. Thanks for taking us along lads and glad you all got out without too much hassle. More of the same would be great.

I graduated from University here back in 2009, so strange to see it like this now. The room you set of the alarm in was the University Bar. They built a new modern campus in the the city center while I was there because they wanted a more central location, this campus was in a village a short drive away, they had to bus all 2nd and 3rd years in on buses. So we knew that this campus would close one day. The University merged with another and now has three main campuses, but this one was a little too remote. It was a beautiful place to go to Uni, I lived on this campus for a year, the views are great. But the 70's buildings were ugly compared to the old main buildings.
I was there 1988-1992 and lived on site for 3 of those years. It was a lovely building, it's sad to see it in such a mess inside and unused
Yeah the halls on campus were hideously outdated to the point where they just felt cold, both figuratively and literally. I had a friend in Camelot and that felt like they were sleeping in a school classroom from the late 90’s with the shiny floor tiles. I started 2012 and in hindsight I was very lucky the campus was full by the time I tried to sort a room, so I ended up going to Opal (near the ‘new’ campus) which was a blessing in disguise for comfort of living and finding the friends I did.
I must say though, I never actually thought the campus would close down as by the time I got there after your own graduation it was absolutely flourishing. It wasn’t until around 2013/14 that it went downhill because they decided to sell it and go with the merger throughout other South Wales Universities
@@CallMeRB I was in Raglan in the en-suite halls, which were much nicer than the shared halls at least in 06-07 when I was there, we actually had carpets! Totally worth the extra cost once I saw the shared halls. It was a popular Uni when I was there. I might have cursed it though, as the same thing happened to my secondary school. A few years after I left, it closed down and merged with another school to form a new school and my first permanent job after graduation, right after I left, the company merged with another company to form a new company, really weird.

I thought carpets only existed in Opal (which has also now closed down, but may have not been open when you were attending). Can’t lie uni was booming when I went too, the nightlife was probably hitting a pinnacle during my first two years, thanks to that iffy Mr Ifsta

it actually isn't there tho, it's a built set in a studio, the building was sold to developers (as in the end of s3) and they didn't let them film there anymore
You mentioned at the start that this beautiful structure was built in the early 1900's .... At 9:25 you said it was used because of the Art Deco design. ... This was constructed about 20 years before Art Deco was adopted on buildings in England !! .... Another great tour lads, keep up the good work. .... Thank you for posting.

Here's an abandoned building I found online: St Patricks Barracks, Ballymena, Northern Ireland. Information: St Patrick's Barracks was a military installation in Ballymena. The site was requisitioned by the War Office and the barracks were put into use as the depot of the Royal Ulster Rifles, who had relocated from Victoria Barracks, as soon as they opened in 1937. The barracks were used by the United States Army during the Second World War. The barracks reverted to use as depot of the Royal Ulster Rifles after the War and became the regional centre for infantry training as the North Irish Brigade Depôt in 1964. The barracks went on to be the home of the Royal Irish Rangers when it was formed in 1968 and of the Royal Irish Regiment when it was formed in 1992.
The barracks were closed in 2008 and the Imjin River Memorial, which had been located at the barracks, was moved to Belfast City Hall: the memorial commemorates Irish troops lost in the Battle of Chaegunghyon in January 1951 during the Korean War.
The site was given to the Northern Ireland Executive in 2012 and housing refurbishment was carried out. The site was the home of the Royal Irish Regiment Museum until it closed. Plans for a road link to the east of the site appeared in the planning submissions to Mid and East Antrim Council in November 2017.
Its just sad to see so many people that ruins stuff like this and can’t just let it be intact and not grafety all over it😔
I'm pretty sure a lot of the graffiti, especially the "dickipline" one, is actually set dressing and part of the plot of the show!
It's sad to think they filmed in such a historic building, and then left it to rot. The fact that they didn't even bother to remove the posters...

I was there for a semester, Fall 1982. It was called Gwent College of Higher Education. I visited 30 years later.

Anyway, another cool video guys. I love locations that have been used for filming of any kind. So please PLEASE include more locations in the future. But not the Granada one, it's been wrecked beyond belief now as it's been covered to death by other (so called) explorers, thus why it's in the state it's in. Hence why I admire the care you guys take.
On a side note; the Hospital signage you showed "may" have been something to do with the filming crew. Some productions (especially if they have lots of "extras" & lots of crew) often have a temporary hospital set up nearby/on location just in case it's needed during production, even though not featured IN the show itself.

Yeah, we didn't end up filming our interaction with security on this one. Wasn't a seamless visit, but definitely better than the factory in our prior video. Amazing to hear, we will look into finding some more disused film sets! That's a great point and very plausible. We didn't think about an on-site hospital for actors and crew. You can tell the show is written by Americans and they did little research into UK secondary schools. They tried to make it more like a US college.
I don’t think so, the creator of the show is English, and she’s written most of the episodes. It’s just the style she wanted, I think she described it as wanting it to appear like a John Hughes movie from the 80s hence the old style cars and items of clothing but in other ways being very modern with technology.
That badly written graffiti is correct, Maeve would totally get it lol!
But how cool, I love that there are still remnants of the show throughout the building, some of those posters would be so cool to have framed or collected. Look forward to see what the actually do with the property, probably apartments to go with the housing. Still glad it will be some what saved!

you should go to dunluce centre it was recently on fire but only the play centre was damaged. before it closed it had a laser tag a 4d thing called turbo tours and a play centre. and i wonder if these are still on the inside.it might be hard getting in but the backdoor was opened so the fire fighters could put out the fire and maybye they did not lock it. its in northern ireland portrush

the place is now in a state where only the main building remains, all of the others have been demolished in favor of new american-style suburbia. it's not a very pleasant looking neighbourhood, the only good thing there is the school building.

It was the main campus for my University. The University of Wales, Newport. The university built a new modern campus in the main city center, right before merging with another university to form the University of South Wales, and selling off this campus. Netflix decided not to renew it's license to film there for the later seasons, so I'm guessing they just didn't bother to go back for some of the sets/ props.
Get yourself over to Illinois and do Joliet Prison (Fox River from Prison Break) ;)

Great content, as usual! How do I find abandoned places to explore? I'm in the UK as well, and for months I've tried finding places near me, both in person and online, with no success. What is the secret?
There are many ways! You can't go wrong with walking/driving around and taking notes of places you see/forums/news articles/scanning google maps/social media groups and posts. These have all helped us in the past :)
@@Urbandonedi can add to this. Look at old maps and use them to find older trails which may not be seen from a modern day trail map. It's also good to go with a friend who knows the area well. And if ANYONE says anything, say that you are there for educational purposes and if they ask u to leave just leave. I've heard of some financial horror stories just bc of some judges seeing it as blatant trespassing. It's sad that it's so easy for developers to look to raising a beautifully historic building such as this yet when it comes to preservation, it's almost near to nigh-on impossible. And so the law stands (sadly).

did you not go to the outside loo block that had overgrown plants in it? iconic in sex education cos i think its where otis ran his sex clinic out of as it was away from the school but still on site

I studied there, it was booming, loads of students everywhere, just like lecturers, students, staff. Just feels really sad seeing it like this! I was glad Netflix bought it because there were rumours they were going to knock it down.
Crazy to see though that when you guys were upstairs, my buddies roomed there for like a year or 2, was always in that part of the building was cool!
