JDCR told his chat once... DO NOT play "high level Tekken" by yourself. He was literally teaching his chat to cheese opponents with throws and random strings. He told us to punish players for their lack of fundamentals like... throw breaking, blocking on wake up, Use and abuse strings that they can't deal with. Punish them for not labbing every single move your character has when you throw your movelist at them. I applied his advice and boosted me from the red ranks to high Blue, and I'm still climbing. Hopefully, I reach Tekken King today.

Man! Steve is really really good, I remind many people saying that it was a potato character, I didn't thought so, and later it made it to the finals in one of the EVOs
Yeah this is a really helpful video. I was facing a similar situation with lili and switched to Paul. Now back on lili I felt I was way more free offensively. After this video I now have new ways to attack training thank you
Actually i would love to see you pick a character, even lily, and just, go through, your whole process of learning the character. Finding what moves to use, how to learn the mixups, how the character works and how ti should be played, what combos it has what oki etc etc. As a new player, even if i see a guide on what i have to do it doesn't necessarily translate on how to actually use those tools in game. So it would be cool if there was a series of videos like that, to help me learn how to learn.
As someone in college, I find it very difficult to find adequate time to play the game. Usually, I'll have around 15-30 minutes to play, but at that point, I don't even see the point in playing. I'mma try to take speeds advice and "work with what you have". I know that that wasn't the context speed was saying that for, but I haven't played for weeks and want to at least do something, even if that's simply labbing against a character's strings. I have 10+ minutes to at least get that going. And if I could get one or two ranked sets in I could watch those later when I don't feel like playing the game. I could also watch some replays of the pros as well. Anyways, great video as always, Phi, and invaluable insight from Speed as always, too.
This might sound lame, but I wish you were as popular during Tekken 7. Sadly I just don't enjoy Tekken 8 nearly enough to want to improve, despite the fact I was close to Tekken King on this game (my peak rank in T7 was Mighty Ruler). I guess I just lost the "flame" I had in T7. But I'm so glad you're making these kinds of videos talking in-depth on what it takes to improve.
Bro i don't know you at all but I was feeling the same thing until I found a Tekken community at my country, we all chat about the game and have sessions whenever we feel like it and it completely makes the game fun again because we play to get better not just to earn some points and a rank. Then when you apply what you learned to the scrubs on ranked it gives you satisfaction like no other 🤜🏼⚡
I felt the opposite I actually didn't like tekken 7 playstyle. It was very "back dash, poke, back dash, poke poke, back dash back dash poke, back dash." it felt punishing to engage, which sounds stupid in a fighting game. Ranked felt sweaty as hell and very unforgiving. I've honestly had more fun with tekken 8 and prefer the buffed side stepping but nerfed back dash. So everyone is forced to be in eachothers faces. Just feels more exciting for a fighting game rather "okay i can't attack first let me just throw out some cheap mids and lows and chip their health down" which is what tekken 7 felt like even watching the tournaments you could tell they're just poking eachothers to death because no one wanted to commit to anything it's just not worth it. Better off poking to win.
@@se7en6277 I feel you. That was T7 for me though. I found an active community in my country and the city I live in. The community is still active but I just don't have the same love for the game like I did with T7.

Speedkicks is the only player I would consider booking a coaching session with. He understands the game on a fundamental level that few others do. Dudes main (Noctis) is back in Tekken 7 and getting "very good" at fighting games requires a lot of time investment into a single character so it helps if you like them a lot. If you keep swapping your main all the time, you'll have a harder time improving unless your name is Knee or Arslan who can play the entire cast at a high level.
