- I just love those Spirit Halloween stores, there was nothing like this when I was a kid. Now, every season, they pop up, just kind of appear out of nowhere... like a spirit. Well what if all of the costumes and animatronics inside it came to life? What if you were locked in a Spirit Halloween and things started attacking? Well it’s now a movie. It’s a perfect concept, but is the execution as good as the idea? Let’s take a look.

I'm just happy to see Christopher Lloyd still in movies 🥰
He’s in one called Dead by Dawn (I think). It’s pretty fun
So happy he's still kicking too.
He can play in movies forever thanks to his car! He's already filmed a 2029 Marvel movie!
When I was little and Taxi was still in production I literally thought Christopher Lloyd was a drug addict with mental problems. I didn't know he was an actor, even after Back to the Future came out; I didn't make the connection that Doc was the same guy as "Reverend" Jim Ignatowski, and I was 9 when I saw BttF. I don't know if that is a testament to Christopher Lloyd's acting ability or how dumb and gullible I was (am) as a small town kid.

Every October I find myself binging monster madness and avgn themed Halloween episodes. It’s become a true tradition. Thanks for all you do to provide us such awesome content James, we appreciate you 🙏

Those Beistle halloween cut-outs are so amazing...even as a kid I was astonished by them. Definitely nostalgic to me. Still have them burried away in storage some where around here with all the other holiday decorations.

So cool. In my small town here in Florida, our Spirit Halloween is also in an old Toys R Us. But hey I’m glad to see Monster Madness! James has been an inspiration to me and my low budget filmmaking!
Now I'm wondering what if Wes Craven and Mel Brooks made a horror movie together in the 80s. I wonder what it be like.
At the beginning of this you mentioned the rating system. I'd personally love to see your views on the rating system over the years from where it started to where it has come to currently. Just a thought.

I remember "Are you afraid of the dark?". I watched it back in 1997. I also read many "Goose bumps", back in 1998.
One thing I miss about Halloween when I was kid was not having Spirt Halloween’s and having pop up mom and pop shops, you find the craziest stuff and the prices would always be dirt cheap
The animatronic with a mallet and buzz saw for hands is a reference to Judge Doom from who Framed Roger Rabbit. Those are the 2 weapons he attacked Eddie Valiant with.
Definitely feels like a goosebumps or are you afraid of the dark episode. That’s sweet we need more fun and simple stuff like that nowadays

Man, I was never a huge fan of the Goosebumps show but Are you Afraid of the Dark had some legit creepy episodes. Some of the story ideas they came up were pretty unsettling. I still remember the episode about the kid freezing to death outside, close to an isolated cabin in the woods, and him showing up outside their bedroom window at night saying, "I'm cold." Or that one with the dead girls spirit being trapped inside a doll house (I think...?). Nightmare fuel.

I went to this store when it was a toys r us every year for my birthday as a kid. Seeing it in a movie and as a fun seasonal store makes me smile.

Art the clown was in a Spirit Halloween store in Terrifier 2. It didn't show the name, but you could definitely tell it was a Spirit store.

Pretty disappointed Spirit Halloween didn't open a location in my town this year. I guess they couldn't find an available location, it was always somewhere different in previous years. Maybe it's an issue of rental costs. Oh well, hopefully next year.

Even better that the animatronics used in the movie are actual ones from the store specifically Grim, Mr Dark, Buzzsaw, Nightcrawler, the jumping spiders, among others.

Christopher Loyd makes alot of people happy from his movies besides back to the future. Camp Nowhere and angels in the outfield were awesome too

I think this is another one of those scrapped five nights at Freddy's scripts that a studio retooled into something else

I worked at the Halloween Adventure on Business Route 1 by Oxford Valley Mall and their back stockroom is haunted
Didn't even know the movie was coming out this soon. The movie popped up just like the stores.

James, you should urgently watch Guillermo del Toro’s cabinet of curiosities and give us your opinion. In mine, it is an outstanding and very entertaining work, finally something at the level of the twilight zone
Last year I rebought those die cut decorations. Got all the ones I had as a kid. A place here in PA called Scare Pros had ALL of them. There is your shameless plug because I love that store.
You left off Lloyd's other great villain, the guy who blew up a ship, with his girlfriend on it, because she had watched a video, that he immediately shared with his officers.

Eh. An updated Are You Afraid Of The Dark segment stretched out to feature length is enough nostalgia catnip for me. And while I do like my gore and gruesome for Halloween there's nothing wrong a little playfully spooky fair to please my inner 10 year old. ^.^

Honestly, instead of this tame version of Five Nights at Freddy's, who would have preferred to see Christopher Lloyd in a live-action adaptation of The Halloween Tree? (As Mr. Moundshroud, of course).

Spirit Halloween just means every other person dressed the same at every Halloween Party you attend. Spirit is great at catching the zeitgeist of the unoriginal and uninspired.
