I did that when I first played the game with Chris, and it didn't went well, but after that I restarted and truly learned the game, beat on Hard with both characters. After you learn how to play it's satisfying, but I still can't do the speedrun achievements, those are too hard.
Yup I got that experience when I tried it for the first time recently. It's terrifying to have made good exploration progress not knowing when you'll be able to save next only for some random dogs to crash through the window as you're on the way back to that last save point.

I remember I had a couple of ink ribbons at the start, but I wasted them all pretty early on, so when the game started opening up for real (when she and Barry first split up in the main hall) I actually had no ribbons left
To be fair, Resident Evil always had this "B horror/action movie" feel to it where yeah, it's scary, but, you also get a shotgun to blast whatever is scaring you in the face. So i guess that would make it one of the more "approachble" horror franchises out there (or at least more than Outlast and Amnesia).
@@arthurgomes5188 RE is more of an action horror game rather than pure outright horror. You have the means to defend yourself besides running away and once you figure out how and when to use ammo, it's actually laughable how much you end up with by the end of the game :D
@@machtmann2881 I disagree, Silent Hill and Fatal Frame/Project Zero also give you a way to fight back and they are pure survival horror. Sure, the newer Resident Evil games (after 4) are action oriented, but this one I would hardly consider it. And in my opinion, those hide and seek horror games are more frustrating than scary

I wouldn't consider SH that just because you can fight back (and quite a lot after awhile too considering how much ammo you end up with if I recall). But I would consider Clock Tower to be pure survival horror. I'm sure you can consider a sliding scale too, whatever floats your boat or your definition.

@@DominatorElite4 People do say this.. and in theory that games has guns in it.. but like, they don't operate too much like guns, as in the range of a gun doesn't really affect it, and they aren't called necessarily normal gun names either like "handgun, shotgun, machine gun" etc. They have very specific names that probably Crystal and many others glossed over. So she has played a game with some guns in it.. but they don't give her a good grounds on how guns act and interact, and parts of those guns

Oh damn, wasn't expecting this! This game is still considered by many to be the gold standard for remakes. It might be a bit obtuse, but its an incredible game. Interested to see how this goes xD On a side note, its always blows my mind when looking at this and the OG side by side, they're only six years apart.
Technically this is the HD Remaster of REmake which is from 2015. The 2002 version on Gamecube obviously didn't have HD textures or widescreen resolution ;p
crystaaahhl freaking out about the limited inventory space is extra funny because JILL'S THE EASY OPTION. Not only does she get the locpick that lets her open some locked doors, but she has like two or so extra space of inventory. Chris not only has LESS space and thus you need to manage stuff more thougthfully, but he also needs to find keys for the locked doors, even the ones Jill can open he NEEDS to find the right key, which means MORE shit to juggle in your inventory. (also since barry is only relevant in Jill's storyline, Chris needs to find some other way to get the shotgun, as noone will save him from the death trap) Did you seroiusly think the game would just let you kill off the traitor in a random ass boss fight without some big reveal? that shoud've been your first hint barry wasn;t the traitor, merely coerced by him XP I will say its worth playing the original. the remae seems to have mixed up some stuff and added things to make the experience fresh. Plus the photo of wesker in the lab is WAY funnier cause he looks like he was awkwardly photoshopped in. Did...did you skip the final boss??

8:56 Yes! When I went back to play this game last year, that's what I noticed. It's like the old Sierra Quest games, but with Zombie killing added in. It's basically what the classic games were. And yeah, there's a limited inventory, but not really since you can use any of the connected item boxes, so it's really just a limit on what you can carry at any given time.
as a resident evil nerd, seeing crystal play it like how I did the first time is nostalgic and hilarious. Also the v-jolt section had me dying with the music and the math calculations whereas when I did it my first time I just mashed random colors together until i got it right lol. Also, getting one of the worst endings on a first playthrough is a mood, I'm one of those people that save scum to keep Barry alive

So, in short (I talked to much for a simple question lol) no, I don't save Rebecca OR Barry every time I play through the game, but for my first play through, I savescumed to keep her alive.

It is actually kind of crazy to consider that there are remakes of Resident Evil 1, 2, 3, and 4 now, and that I new player in 2023 really can just play through those and not have to play an "original" version until they got to Resident Evil 5 and 6. That's only two entries way from 7 & 8 which are currently the contemporary entries.
Its weird for me as someone who played the original games in order, and now seeing so many people enter the series with Resi 4 and 5, and now newbies entering the series with the remakes.

In all fairness, your thought process on the longer barrel meaning longer range isn’t too far off. Shotgun projectiles in real life travel much further and spread less dramatically than they do in video games. The spreading effect of shotguns is exaggerated in most video games for the sake of making the game balanced, since having a gun that can destroy targets up close and still do good damage at medium-long ranges would make lots of other weapons less viable.
True, but probably would not be fatal hit if someone shoots a shotgun with hopes of killing something like 50+ yards away. You will hit and damage though for sure, and recent games kind of show it better if you fire at things further away with a shotgun.. Just not as effective of course

In the first Crysis game, you could mount an ACOG on a shotgun, switch to slug ammo, and use it as a legit sniper rifle. It is still the only game I've ever known of where this was possible.

Yeah, in real life, shotguns are for medium range. You have the correct idea in your head. But for the games, developers needed a gun that can do massive damage bit they had to balance said damage and not give the player a massive advantage, so they made them for close range. Completely unrealistic, but that's the gaming rule now.

You have to save Rebecca as Chris or save Barry as Jill for that happen, both in the original and Remake. And the reason for that is that Rebecca activates the self-destruct system in Chris's story, and Wesker is the one that activates it in Jill's but he is killed by the Tyrant if Barry's not there.
True.. But like, it's not a bad game by any means. It's different, but as an action/horror experience, still well done and worth a play imo if you're following the remake canon. She should play both imo back to back since both really aren't long games.

this is probably the hardest game in the entire franchise so all those deaths are pretty normal xd

You have to save Rebecca as Chris or save Barry as Jill for that happen, both in the original and Remake.
And the reason for that is that Rebecca activates the self-destruct system in Chris's story, and Wesker is the one that activates it in Jill's but he is killed by the Tyrant if Barry's not there.
The reason why everyone doesn't like RE3 (the remake) is because Nemesis is so much worse than in the original.
True.. But like, it's not a bad game by any means. It's different, but as an action/horror experience, still well done and worth a play imo if you're following the remake canon. She should play both imo back to back since both really aren't long games.
Actually people mostly hated how short it was. It also has no replay value. 60 bucks for a 3 hour game? Capcom knew they had to step it up.
So basically, crystaahhl will soon be cultured & not be uncultured, since she she didn't have a childhood with this amazing franchise, & I'm all here for it 👏
RE1 remake is the GOAT of survival horror. Very difficult but when you beat it you feel like a champion. No other horror game can compare.

I was having a bad day. Watching CrystAAHHL play RE1 Remake has significantly improved my day.
Imagine if CrystAAHHL would've attempted its randomizer with any of the mentioned below:
- Randomized items (Adjusted so it won't softlock)
- Randomized enemies (Yes, land sharks and multiple bosses included)
- RANDOMIZED ROOMS (Because laws of space/physics don't apply in this mansion lmao)
Now imagine ALL of the above at once.
Now THAT would've been the ultimate horror experience for her.
Jill had jiggle physics in that game btw.

I hope people expained to Crystahl that the first game has like 5 endings more or less and even with it, none of those endings are the Canon ones. XD
