I have been overlapping the masking tape for years without any clean up after the engraving or cutting, Here's how overlap just a little then run a square edge or your fingernail where the overlap is I wouldn't recommend a strong tack tape low to medium so it doesn't rip the fibres up as you mentioned and is easy to pull off :)
Matt, you left me hanging, what does the finished product look like? I mean do you sand the edges? Do you put it in a frame ? Do you add a backer or just add wall hangers ??? Lotsa questions bro. Btw I’m just catching up on a bunch a videos I’ve missed over the last few months.
Used this for many years. Use to buy it from JDS but I beiieve they discontinued it last year. I use clear boxing tape to weed it. Apply tape, press it tdown securely and then just pull it up. Tape picks up the tape particals and then particals are removed. Rarely are there andthing left to remove.
Interesting stuff. If you look at the samples on their site, you still see the grain of the wood using the brown. Doesn’t look like a paint coating, more like a stain. Not sure if your black test gave a similar look. Glad to see you again! Good luck with the move.
I am SUPER STOKED to go through your home laser business setup space videos with you! I'm planning to do the same over the next several months, but mine starts with MAJOR construction. You'd better film everything!!! 😀
Looking forward to seeing your garage move Matt. Hope to have my new Nova 51 in another 2 weeks now. Cannot wait to get started! Thanks for another informative video, as always. Take care and stay safe, from Ireland 😉
Good afternoon I'm just wondering if there's anyway laserdark would ship to Canada cause I was on there site and that shipping option didn't even come up to ship to Canada.
You sound Canadian. I’m in Michigan. Fun video. I have been dabbling with making some things with a hand burning tool but it’s so difficult to write neatly. If I could laser engrave that would be a game changer. I generally don’t work with sheets of wood though. I often have oddly shaped pieces of wood I want to engrave.
I was so excited to get this product - I bought the 3 pack - I just tried it on a cutting board that I got from amazon (thin wood base) and it is not going through the tape - I have the xtool m1 10W - any suggestion on settings - the first run was so dark and looked burned??? Love your videos
Thank you! Very cool. May I ask (probably a silly) question - what tape was that, that you used ? And is that fine to laser on? I have the XTool and just learning the ropes haha
Hi, sorry to sound stupid, but i am new to sll this, but can i ask what is the tape you use? Is it like just normal masking/painters tape? I am in uk snd u cant find one this wide but was wondering if i can use just regular one. Thanks in advance
Good video and I'm going to try it out. Are you using an Orbital Sander and what grit are you using? Thanks and good luck with the move. I'm assuming this will also work with my 10W diode laser.
No need to film that...I've had good luck with a light dusting of the paint...we all end up sanding it in the end anyways...I was initially thinking the product was something you spray on before and it had some kind of a magical reaction...the paint masking definitely makes it pop. Keep up the good content!
Love the video. Just an idea, but you can also just do an outline instead of a fill, take the paper off the letters, and then paint the letters. Let it dry, then take off the masking paper. I haven't had any luck doing this your way. The spray paint always goes around the etch, instead of in it.
@@laserengravingwithmatt , awesome, thanks. But, why do your etches fill with paint, and my paint accrues on the outer edges. For real, it doesn't go IN the etch. What am I doing wrong?
Just a little food for your ego, but my recent work has gotten noticed by kind of big people. I am hoping this is the start of great things for me. Your advice has been pivotal. Thank You!!!
The viscosity looked like standard spray paint. I wish when he showed products he'd have some actual facts to provide that illustrate why it's better than what we likely already use. This product should have been compared side-by-side with standard spray paint.
Thanks for sharing! Where did you get the little plastic razor blades and the holder?

The black did not but the brown brings out a ton of detail.
Thx, great help. What is the tape you used? The link below is broken; or didn’t work for me.
Found it, thx. You mentioned other colors, but I’ve only found black and brown. Where can I find other colors? Thx
What were other brands you spoke of? You said you simply liked this one best. Im looking for other colors. Thx
Great video, glad to see you again. What laser could you be buying now?😕
Thanks 😃 🤷♂️😈

Me too 😃. I most definitely will 🤔you better also so I can learn how to build a shop one day 😃
What 12in making tape did you use? I've been using transfer tape for vinyl. But it doesn't hold good enough, I have problems with edges peeling.

Awesome video! Look forward to watching more of your content. Would painter's tape work?
Thanks 😊. Yes it should work

What is the width of tape that you use? I want to get the combo package !

@@laserengravingwithmattI only saw a link for blue tape. Did you just use regular pre mask for vinyl? What tack?
I am glad to see I am not the only one with a pallet stack around back.

@@laserengravingwithmatt Thanks Matt! Appreciate it. 😎
Enjoy your videos! Always learn something new. Had me laughing today 🤣
😃
Could you stain the wood after this?
Yes
Matt...what kind of wood was that? Some woods like pine "bleed" bad...but that wood looked great. Thanks!
It’s the spray. I used it on one score boards and it was great
Would this process also work with concrete or say limestone?
I don’t know

Thanks 😃. Yes and 220 grit. Yes it will.
"may or may not" huh? LOL! Glad you got to hear from me again!!
😃
Have you tried the borax spray method for engraving?
Nope
Food safe ? Process for making it food safe ?
I don’t recommend
@@laserengravingwithmatt thanks for the response 👍
Hi I was wondering where do you purchase the plastic blades? Thanks! 9:05
Amazon
Thank you
What's the difference between this stuff and regular paint?
It doesn’t bleed like paint
can you stain Basswood Plywood
Yes
What tape are you using for the wood? It it usable for a diode laser also?
Yes it is and it’s all in the description
I have been doing this for awhile. I take the mat off and just run alight cut with the planer. Sanding takes too long.
Great video! Thank you.
what is that black paper ? what is it called ? that paper would save my life
It’s in the description it’s a tape
How is this any different than a standard spray? Just viscosity? Not sure I see how I couldn't get the same results with a krylon.
Sorry, I should’ve done a comparison spray paint runs in bleeds underneath the tape

Poly the wood first and it keeps it from bleeding using this tape method. Then you can use any type of paint. And then poly over for finish
hello what's your paper please ?

Good question 🤔 I don’t remember

I guess I can do that. I didn’t in the video because I used to do it and it would run all over underneath the tape.
Annoying
