Being an Oakland A's fan sucks rn. I have so many memories at the Coliseum (despite it desperately needing to be updated/replaced). The hardcore fans love this team more than anything despite the constant roster changes the past 20 years and now they are being treated like trash and blamed for something they have little to no control over. Ive been wanting to get my own Kelly Green jersey for months now (I just graduated college and want to get something cool for myself) but with all the ownership/dave kaval being generally shitty towards the fans I don't want to support that. On the other hand, I've been a fan my whole life, so going to ebay and finding marked up jerseys just feels wrong. Plus the new jerseys are hot garbage.

Best part of moving to Vegas is that expansion teams do great (Golden Knights, Aces) there while relocation teams are garbage (Raiders). Good to see that streak will continue!

This HURTS-HURTS-HURTS!! I’ve been an A’s fan for 50 years. I grew up watching A’s games at the Coliseum. Then I drove 400 miles one-way from LA just to attend A’s games after moving and living there for over 20 years. I raised my kids to be A’s fans, despite living in LA. My oldest was proposed to on the field at the Coliseum. Fast forward to 2019, we moved to West Sacramento to be closer to the grandkids. I drive by Sutter Health Field on my way to work every weekday and now it’s like salt in the wound on a daily basis. So, right now, I’m a super, super NOT HAPPY person.
This is an absolute disgrace and embarrassment to the game of baseball not just from Oakland ownership but from the MLB Commissioner in its lack of effort in the situation. Even as someone who lives on the opposite coast and no relation to Oakland this makes me ashamed to even watch Major League Baseball… what a scam

As a lifelong Oakland A's fan who lives in Sacramento. How the hell am I supposed to feel about this? I would love for Sacramento to get a permanent baseball team (Preferably and expansion team). But I love the Oakland A's and my greatest wish is for them to stay in Oakland where they belong. Do I go to the games for the team that I love that is now in my backyard? Do I protest and stay away for the sake of the city of Oakland? Do I hate this because it gives Vegas an opportunity to get their ducks in a line for the move? Do I like this because it allows time for Oakland to to do the same? HELP!!!!! Sincerely, Confused in Sactown.

I drove from Spokane to Oakland for Opening Weekend to finish off my personal grieving, and I gotta say it was f%cking depressing. The Coliseum was empty, the vendors closed, the parking lot barren, I mean hell the deep fried cheeseburger stand in right field was gone.
Sports fans love to trash Oakland and A's fans for the state of the club, but true baseball fans know that Fisher is the worst owner in pro sports and degrades the game of baseball every day he remains in control of a franchise with a rich history.
Hopefully Sacramento won't get proper F'd like Oakland.
Vegas you'll learn quickly that your nice new shiny stadium won't bring you joy, nor a winning season until Fisher is gone

Trevor, my wife and I were just talking about this yesterday. As a A’s fan since I was kid( I’m 58 now) I’ve supported the good and BAD teams. This has been the hardest couple of years. Here’s our question, are you a “true fan” of this team if you choose to not follow them? My heart can only be broken so many times. Love your insights to a game I truly love. By the way where can I get one of those sweet hats? Size 7 and 3/8.
I know I’m not Trevor, but I’ve stopped supporting the organization, while every once in a while rooting the team on during the games. Old habits die hard I guess. I just can’t give the team any more of my money knowing it is going to billionaires who never cared about us, and have even disrespected us to turn us off. So I’ll cheer on the players from afar for at least this last season

I’m a 22 year Oakland A’s fan. I ran the bases as a kid and was a season ticket holder during 2 separate years. To be honest they’re dead to me in 10 years when none of the players on the team have played in Oakland I will be completely disconnected from the team.

I wonder how fans in Kansas City and Philadelphia felt when the franchise left those cities. Having lived in South Florida and watching the Marlins for nearly 20 years I’m of the opinion that the revenue sharing system attracts ownership groups in small markets that are happy to milk the system and survive on corporate welfare while keeping their expenses down. Fans deserve better than gapping for a .500 record each season.

I watched Secret Base's docuseries on the Minnesota Vikings. Coach Jerry Burns couldn't remember guys names, so he just called them all Big Nuts. However, Vikings players really liked him despite that.
If the A’s owner’s suite contains sour cream donuts, you nay need an XXL denim jacket to smuggle them out. If you’re wearing a yellow wristband to go with that lemon glaze and are seen by the owner, you may need the denim jacket to protect yourself from getting pelted by sour cream donuts. At least that’s what the memo from above said. Either way we’re sure you’ll make the adjustment and be back here at 6am.

Thank you so much for this. I’ve been in Oakland Athletics fan since 1971 when I went to my first game watching Vida blue pitch. The memories I have of the different eras are unforgettable; your video makes me realize her many others who feel as angry as I do and as sad as I do that this wonderful historic franchises is leaving

We need a take on these closers this year. I just watched 4 guys walked in the ninth for a walkoff walk in the Brewers vs Mariners. You’re a Mariner fan, you likely watched. What is happening. LeClerc with the Rangers is a great guy to bring in if you want to guarantee the winning run will be brought to the plate. 8 run lead, no worries, he will give up 4 and load the bases. Maybe it is early season rustiness, but honestly I just feel like we have a shortage of good closers.
I think it is time to suit up, the league needs your arm.

After watching the full video, I can barely name 3 players on the team and i've been a fan since i was born. I turn 40 in May 2024. I'm no longer going to be a fan after this season. Albeit, we as fans know its not the players fault, they made the team and will work since its a paycheck and realizing their dream to be in the Majors. But at the end of the day, the level of pettiness a billionaire can have with the common fan is absurd. I believe Kaval is a victim in this too. His energy has been stolen from him and being held hostage. He is too afraid to leave and he is too scared to speak up. To say he is being paid alot of money to be the fall guy is an understatement. To even brag about being top 10 in payroll as he has in previously years with a new stadium, its another laughable situation as a whole. Based on spotrac, for 2024. Athletics payroll is $47.2 million - a little under 30 million less than the next team ahead of them, the pirates. To crack the top 10 - they would have to increase payroll, 141 million. If they could do that, they should have been doing that all along. So for those who like commas like I do.
$47,275,000 - 2024 athletics payroll (Last - 30th)
$72,014,000 - 2024 pirates payroll (29th)
$187,979,909 - 2024 Giants Payroll (10th)
+$140,725,000 - The amount of money Athletics would have to add to be in 10th place.

Guess that explains why the team has shown profit (save 2020) every year for the last 20+ years. A billion-dollar franchise with over 100 years of history, ran like a corner store on 45th street in oakland. At least the corner store has Tahitian treat.

The thing I’m most shocked about in all this is Sacramento is north of SF/OAK!? My mental image of the CA cities placed SF/OAK more north, Sacramento in the middle and east, LA just below them but on the coast, and SD more north than it is compared to the border. Wow.
Any meanies out there that want to be mean, if you’ve ever said Kansas City is in Kansas, you’re not wrong but you also aren’t fully correct because it’s in Missouri too, literally on the other side of State Line Rd. so why don’t you look at a map sometime.
The RSN's are Comcast Sports Bay Area and Comcast Sports California. CSN Bay Area gets Giants and Warriors in the Bay, while CSN California carries the A's and Kings (which are blacked out in the Bay). So the RSN remains the same but let's just watch JF blackout A's games in the Bay too, I wouldn't be surprised. Thanks for using your unique perspective to give us fans a much more of an insiders POV.

Amazing how John Fisher has three big sources of income (Gap, SJ Earthquakes, A's) and he still pretends he's poor. I still have major doubts that he forks out over a billion for a new stadium and then continue to invest in the team as a high payroll team. (He made the same promise with the Quakes after all). The Vegas crowd is actually expecting this to happen but anyone who's been paying attention knows this isn't happening. At this point, gotta see it to believe it but all signs are pointing towards John Fisher continuing his cheap antics

Sacramento isn't part of the Bay Area. It's a separate metro area and a separate media market (3rd-largest in California in both cases, so actually a bigger market than the Padres have). It'd be hilarious if they just ended up staying there because Vegas and SLC both got tired of Fisher's shit.

Thank you for the cookie recipe a few days ago! I really don't understand how Fisher and co. are planning to make this transition work. Vegas doesn't want the team and doesn't really have a sustainable fanbase even if people did decide to come. Like you said, I really don't know how many free agents are going to wanna come to a team that's doing this song and dance either. It just feels very forced and I truly think no one wins.

It won’t happen, the athletics never sign big name talent regardless. Their whole thing is getting lower value players then trading them if they gain value.
Even if the whole league tries to boycott them, there will always be players who’d rather go and play for the A’s than see their major league hopes end.
