I'm a bassist and know there's no way I'll ever be able to play this, but holy fuck do I enjoy watching him do it and break it down. Haha Also... Jared: "Let's see you guys play 'Drone Corpse Aviator". Me: Nah, I'll save myself the pain and suffering and just pay to listen to you do it. 😂
Cool thing about this riff is that it's not hard to play, it's just really clever! Jared is a perfect example of "play smart, not hard". His increase in tapping on this album really compliments the rest of the music so well and allows him to play stuff that sounds really crazy but isn't too demanding for him to play! Compliments from a fellow death metal bass player dude, I'm impressed!
Him: "The chord progression is really simple: it's an A minor and a G sharp diminished chord." Me (the amateur musician): anything with a diminished chord isn't simple.
@@bobsala7780 It's really easy, because it's all the same tbh, you'll hear it everywhere in metal music. Just look it up once and you'll know everything about it lol
Diminished chords are way easier than they appear, for one simple reason - they're totally symmetrical so they are mega easy to learn and visualise Plus like Brett said, any time you have a minor chord, just find the 5th degree and take it down one semitone - bob's your uncle, diminished chord!
Jared you are the man. Seriously an inspiring bassist. You’ve become one of my all time faves. From a total bass novice who’s wanting to get better, thanks to both Jared and dingwall for vids like this. That Z3 is also probably the single nicest bass I have ever seen/heard lol.
Anybody else love the fact that death metal musicians are the standard for fun, good hearted, supportive people? Everyone else is causing riots and shooting at each other and getting into major drug problems, while bands like Archspire are doing tutorials on YT and engaging with their fans in pleasant normal ways...all while playing songs that will hit hard enough to make you crap your pants. Also, yeah...just...super simple chord progressions faster than my eyes can register.
i have to lower my bass strings very closer to the fretline and buy another sound caption bar just to be able to do this riff ... but one day i will make it. great lesson, by the way!
Interested in learning Human Murmuration as well, but you have a playthrough vid from NAMM for that. Also I'm certain my neighbors enjoyed a hearty "DRONE CORPSE AVIATOR" just now
You know that meme about drawing tutorial where the guy draws a couple lines and then the next step is drawing the whole thing but it's photorealistic and it doesn't make sense because there should be 20 steps inbetween? This is exactly that but for bass playing.
Tobi didn't have the octave lower E that Dean had because he played 7-strings for a long time until he switched to 8-string recently. Jared is the same for the bass equivalent.
@AnonymousIsAnonymous1234 what does that have to do with the title of the video or my comment? Some people like a clean bass tone anyway. Go listen to Motorhead grandad.
Impressive and sounds cool, but hardest? I don't think so. It seems achievable for me(though still hard) and if I feel I can play it I doubt it's the hardest bass riff.
"feeling" you can play it and actually playing it are two completely different things. I "feel" I could win the lottery every weekend but I still have 20 quid in my pocket.
@@crazymiloyko6621 im well aware that its two different things. But there are things that I've seen that feel far more unachievable to me and thus harder. Just from randomly noodling around randomly on bass I think it's achievable if I were to practice it. I'm not saying it's easy or anything, but it just doesn't seem like the hardest.
@@adriantaylor5778 It's for sure doable. The actual mechanics and shifts aren't crazy on their own. It's the tempo that will take awhile, at least for me.
This guy should shave his head and grow a moustache. Just my opinion.
No. It's YOU should grow your hair back!
Definitely! Long hair in a metal band is so 80's!!
I'm convinced his hands are so strong and manly, Jared could grow separate moustaches on each finger.
Yeah, he and that other guy who's always sitting down.
Nah bro long hair on musicians is a classic look that never goes out of style. And chicks frickin love it. Don't be jealous your bald headed ass doesn't get any bussy
Jared is a monster. Oli is a monster. Tobi is a monster. Dean is a monster. Spencer is a monster. This band is apocalypse^^
This band is Archspire
Oli sucks
NO, THIS IS ARCHSPIRE! *CLICK*
Great player and a great teacher.
@@ItzCollapsabLE why do I see this so often?! How does he suck?

It's fine, I'm going to school for rocket science before learning any of Jared's basslines. It's a necessity haha
Jared Smith is one of the fastest death metal bass players of all time no doubt and love his work on bass
I get the feeling that he’s secretly the best guitarist in the band but he just happens to play bass
@@Goose21 That actually is the case. Jared used to play guitar but learned bass so he could join Archspire.
that bass is ridiculous

Uh not hard?????
@HotdogAmigos I mean it's right there in the video. Super simple riff but just fits the music really well.
I love the tone this guy gets from these basses!
jared is up in my top 3 bass inspirations
More of these please! A playthrough/lesson of Bleed the Future would be awesome.
All the guys from archspire are talented beyond belief and super humble. Go support them if you can!
The most powerful pinky I’ve ever seen!
I Saw them on live recently, damn they were good....
Dude you explain things so great and easy
Just Discovery this band and as a bassist this guy jared is the best I ever seen in my life. I became a fan.
Thanks for my bassist self esteem 😅 this video screamed " Go pratice you weakling!" all over me lol
I appreciate his manner of explanation. Easy to follow 👍
This is GREAT! I'd happily pay for bass tapping lessons from Jared.
That's probably the sickest looking bass I've ever seen
I love seeing videos like this where the bass is way high up in the mix for the play through. It brings a new level of appreciation for thier music.
I, as a beginner, am happy you guys uploaded this, now I can play seven nation army, feel good inc. and this:)

Take a minor chord and flatten the 5th by a half step, you have a diminished chord.

Apparently you've never heard of Pat O'Brian.
He is insane! Absolutely love it!
I love how much like Dean does in his videos, Jared makes it seem so easy... Until he plays it at full speed.
Thank you for breaking this down. I have something to practice now.
Yo that's a Beast Wars Optimal Optimus figure on the shelf back there. The bass is good but let's talk about THAT.
Marvellous bass lines and absolutely brilliant music themes!!!! Jared is a beast!!!!

Next level bass player 😯
Moar Jared B A S S tutorials plz! Ive been relegated to mainly watching a bald guitar guy in Archspire so its nice to get a changeup.
This man is cracked
This time I cannot even hide myself behind the fact that I don't own a 6 string bass...
i just love the overtone spectrum of the bass but it needs much more low end and also more warmth
Great, now he's melting OUR faces. :D
"I hope you guys can learn it."
That guitar is sic! 👌
I’d love to hear you get an album together with a good percussionist.
Kinda how John Ferrera does it.
But like, a dark and metal John Ferrera haha
bless
Question : is the whole guitar tuned down to match the drop A - or is it in standard with the dropped B ?
Drop A would be standard tuning with the other strings and bottom string tuned down a whole step. Think E standard => Drop D.
It's B standard, but with a dropped 6th string down to A
You're my hero haha
🤘
If I tried to actually play D.C.A. my Bass would give me its 2 week notice.
Gracias ,x 10000009 ❤ 🫂
Not to sound gay or anything, but I could watch this dude play bass for days…
Ackchually, isn’t it Am to E7/G#? Yeah, I’ll show myself out.
(Also, come to Stockholm. And bring Inferi.)
I’d tap that bass!
🤯👍
😍
Put this guy and Jacob Umansky on a song.
The world isn't ready for that yet
Bass is drop A, what would the tuning for 8 string guitar be?
EAEADGBE
🤘😎🤘
That's cool, but can you play the Seinfeld theme.
*grabs 4 string.
FUCK
Fun fact: Jared started playing bass when he was asked to audition for the band
Let's see Davie504 try this one
Hardest riff? Far from it, but I do love that bass.
Oh. Just like that.
All this hard work just to have contemporary producers go like: "Bass volume? Best I can do is 25% lmao"
Archspire would be an exception to that
Most tech death bands but it's still not Death, First Fragment or Obscura loud
@@xNachtmahRx well yeah they got straight up bass solos lol but archspire does a great job highlighting their bass. Way more than most bands
Dave Otero mixed their new album perfectly. Amazing low end for referencing.
His bass is really loud on this album tho

Somewhere in Bulgaria.....
A middle schooler learned this riff.
I totally expected him to have a low E on his bass, just to match the guitar tuning.
a low e on a bass probably would sound like shit. muddy as hell. especially unsuitable for fast playing.
Tobi didn't have the octave lower E that Dean had because he played 7-strings for a long time until he switched to 8-string recently. Jared is the same for the bass equivalent.
I have a 6 string dingwall combustion tuned EAEADG, sounds massive.
Okay, this shit is crazy, but maybe with loooooooooooooooooooooots of practice...2:01 "And we're going to tap that" - FUCK
That guitar sounds like a bass.
Mullet in metal is a rarity ;) just saying

Well sure, but can you teach me the facemelt?
