The Apeks VX1 Mask is a single lens snorkel or dive mask with a low internal volume and wide field of vision. The frameless design of the VX-1 brings the glass lens closer so you have a wider field of vision compared to a framed mask.
    Who's the VX1 For?
Any diver or snorkeller will find the VX1 comfortable and because of it's low volume it's easy to clear. Small features all over the mask make it more comfortable and seal better than other masks but it is also available with a UV Lens for additional protection for your eyes.

Just picked this up for £60 so really happy with that saving over RRP! Can't wait to go diving with it!

Good for instructors working mostly in white tiled pools for OW courses. Pretty useless for dives over 9m. Sea & Sea used to sell a similar mask back in the '90's which I used for many years, it also corrected colour at depth which was useful. Can't seem to find them any more.

Does the UV protection scratch easily?

I got 2 VX1 masks. Initially I ordered both in the UV cut, but decided to switch one to the non-treated version since I'll never wear both masks at the same time. This way I can choose my main and back-up mask depending on the weather conditions.

@bloodymarvelous4790 which one do you prefer? Does the UV coating heavily affect the way in which you see the colours in tropical water?

How do you prep and ant-fog the mask, worried about removing the coating?

Just got one. The neoprene back thing is totally useless. I've spent half an hour trying to fit it but can't figure it out.

Got a White UV one and love it!
What did you folks use to prep the mask???
Any issue or damage to the UV coating??
Which side is the UV coating on and is it safe to use normal mask cleaners and scrubs on??

Hi Aaron, it's a shame you did not get any replies to your questions. I have just bought the UV version myself and wondering the same thing as on the mask it states:
UV cut glasses of your mask are more sensitive than glass.
the mirror treatment inside the mask is fragile, so handle with care. Avoid touching the lens with your fingers or tools, because the danger of scratching the surface is too great. We recommend using specific cleaning products, lens tissue or cleaning cloth glass.
Did you ever find answers to how to prep after purchase and long term antifog treatments?

Hi Graham, I am kinda bummed I didn’t get any reply, but I did speak with Apeks direct, (their Tech line actually) and they recommended to use ONLY Baby Shampoo to Prep the mask. General Mask Scrub and such will damage the UV coating on the inside of the lense is what they told me. No “lighter trick” or anything like that. JUST Baby Shampoo.
I’ve found after a few runs of scrubbing baby shampoo with my fingers the mask does pretty well. I would wager you could use typical mask de-fog after the prep is done, but baby shampoo works well for that also so that’s what I’m going to continue to use. Hope this helps! Safe dives to you!!

Recently purchased the mask in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. No instructions to prep the mask, used baby shampoo. Took it on a dive yesterday and it immediately fogged up. 60 minutes of fogging is frustrating. Came back the boat and took a chance and used toothpaste on the inside of the mask. Even though the tint is on the inside. I lightly scrubbed using toothpaste. No scratches on the tint. Washed and dried the mask. Used baby shampoo again, went on the second and third dive. Flawless, great seal and the mask never fogged. Hope this helps.

@@1988Landcruiser I was wondering about using toothpaste. Thanks for that. However, I usually just wash off the toothpaste with sea water and I'm good to go. No need for baby shampoo or drying off, but that's with tempered glass masks.

I don't understand why you need an UV filter if UV light doesn't even penetrate 1 meter into the water. Water molecules absorb this light...

Conveniently, you start and finish at the surface. Lots of people have light (UV) sensitivity in their eyes. Waiting your turn to get in or out can be rough for some. I haven't tried this specific product yet, but suspect it will help people like me who struggle with light sensitivity.

Apeks dive mask box is rubbish....I have 3 VX1 between my son and I, all 3 box zip pullers specifically fell apart they are not suited to be anywhere near wet equipment. None of the boxes have been wet but the zippers simply corroded within a few months, now held together with bungee which doesn't protect the mask at all.....Shame because the mask is superb
