16:27 - The MacBook Pro is not running Photoshop on the Native Apple Silicon version. So that is also leading to a lower score in the Photoshop benchmark

I think the After effect is also not natively supported in M1 unless you are tested under the after effect beta.
The MacBooks don't game very well from what I understand, so they were never gonna fit my use case, but I'm really impressed with what Apple's been able to do with them in recent years. If I were strictly a productivity user I might've considered a Mac for my next purchase, but I'm pretty dead set on the 3070 G15.
Same, funny thing is, I bought a 3070 G15 and my wife a Mac, sometimes I wonder how cool and nice itll be to have a Mac when I see her use it, then I max out the settings on a AAA game and I forget all about it lol
Can you imagine trying to play literally any modern game with that tab in the way? Unreal what the Mac faithful put up with now days.
I just got mine yesterday. G15 is an amazing little machine. Gets my approval hands down. Been playing a few games and it's smooth and fast, no complaints so far other than minor asthetic and connection placement and amount preferences. Two thumbs up. I don't even know why it's being compared to the Mac book given that it's a gaming laptop.
Got a Xbox series x, ps5, switch oled, steam deck for gaming and 16” MacBook Pro m1 pro for everything else.
The MacBook Pro battery is much longer, more powerful plugged in or not, much nicer screen, cold to touch, superior speakers, Superior OS, and nearly silent most of the time fan is rarely on. Plus once the nvidia 4070 is out, the G15 novelty runs out. But it is a nice gaming laptop.
Should probably use the same mic and distance when comparing anything audio related. 🤷🏻♂️

The only deal breaker for me having macbook pro: ONBOARD MEMORY AND STORAGE. Which why I decided to buy G15. It's a great laptop for gaming and content creation tbh.
Yeah... I totaly agree with the drag and dropping on MacBook trackpad... it gets confused yes! But on the other hand, it is the most wonderful trackpad on laptops. Have you ever tried to connect Apple Trackpad - external to a windows computer? Does it work? I do a lot of video editing in Premiere pro and that is why I like that feedback when you hit a cut region or start or end of a clip. Love it! I just picked up the G15 with the RTX 3070 at Best Buy for $1,550... Steal of a deal. I do architectural modeling and rendering and this laptop runs Lumion and renders faster than any computer I've owned.

I have the 14" M1 Pro MacBook Pro. Unbinned version. The screen is way nicer than those gaming machines. Its made for work on the go because of the battery performance on the machine. These gamers are not for working on the go. Its more of a portable desktop than anything. I have both, but for getting work done, I'll use a Mac for that. A lot of these coffee hangout spots don't have wall sockets anymore to plug in a laptop to use for doing productivity tasks like writing papers, doing spreadsheets, etc.

It's very nice that you cover stuff many other reviewers don't. Although i have a question (as someone who's still using an older windows laptop) : is the g15 trackpad used the same way, a macbook trackpad can be used - i mean two finger clicking or left-right-seperation for 'right clicks' etc ?
Btw also nice clear graphs - the macbooks were un- and the zephyrus plugged i guess?!
I used to have an old macbook pro and recently purchased a zephyrus. The trackpad can be used in the same way (some of the gestures, such as changing desktops, closing tabs, etc. are slightly different but don't take long to learn and are nearly as smooth).

you had a sdc oktava on the mac at about double the distance compared to the rode shotgun mic for key audio comparison. To be comparable, use same mic, with same pre at same position. the freq response, gains and polar patterns differ, just to start pointing out some things…just a tip, cheers.
oh, and this goes doubly for speaker audio comparison. same mic, same distance and calibrate levels with spl meter :)

G15 is comparable, can run the best games, and costs 1000 less for the same ram and storage. You can upgrade long-term.

Your bit about the track pads had me dying 😂 I didn’t know people understood my frustration of being that the “edge” of your trackpad while dragging and dropping. Finally someone perfectly describes my woes. Lol
That’s why I use mouses. Plus I’m convinced trackpads cause carpal tunnel way faster.

The Zephyrus is a gaming laptop that happens to also do productivity work really well. The Mac is a productivity laptop that doesn’t game. If all you do is productivity then you have to decide if the extra $1000 is worth it to you, if you like to game, at all, whether or not you do productivity, the Zephyrus is the clear choice.
Exactly. Gaming benchmarks would complete this review. I own MacBook older version and G15 and these laptops are for different type of users.

I've seen the QS model on sale here in the UK (in Grey not white) but I was wondering if there were any differences in specs. As I'm looking to replace my Razer Blade 15 Advanced from 2018, and the MX Max MacBook Pro is a bit a pricey for me right now.
It comes with a terrible screen (~60% coverage of srgb).
Don't buy any g15 with model name having n after h (ga503qs-h*...). Q stands for quad hd 165 hz with dci p3 coverage, n for full hd 144 hz.
Use three finger drag on the macbook pro much easier to drag then.

I really don't get why you use different microphones for testing speaker output. It just makes no sense. Using different mic it's not a 1-1 comparison at all.
I’m just curious Ben do you think the unplugged battery life efficiency of the Mac is totally intentional? On many benchmarks a lot of the GPU is not tapped to its full capacity and knowing Apple they would limit functionality unplugged or plugged to be able to state such a thing. Where Microsoft gives you extreme performance when plugged in everyone knows it.

Apple has a massive advantage of 'custom optimization', it's a upper hand. I don't think these should be compared to machines involving hardware from different brands came together in one chassis. I'd still go for Zephyrus tbh.

@@vitorgamba4736 If she works with 3D models/graphics, get something with the RTX in it. Best in the market is probably the Zephyrus G15 but there are others as well just do some research before you buy. On the other hand, if that is not the case then get the M1 Pro (16 or 14 depend on your wife preference), it is not too expensive and has superb battery and display.
Oh and if $2000, $3000 is a lot to you then pick the windows laptop, they won't disappoint and still relatively cheap. Only pick the MacBooks if you are well off.

The g15's main focus is gaming, MacBook is productivity. Plus you can connect an external webcam

Ben .. I have one suggestion .. in your performance test you should start doing a ethereum mining benchmark as well. It tells a lot about capability of graphics subsystem.

@@yusufdomun303 No he isn't he goes out of his way to not talk about the tab on the screen. If he is going to talk about "screen flex" and "screen wobble" then he also has to talk about that tab. Which instead of talking about he goes out of his way to edit out of the video.
Geek bench needs to upgrade to read threads in multi core, it is missing about 30% of intel and amd performance by not doing that, it also needs a longer testing mode to stress the chips more.
Cinebench actually sees the threads in multi core and last longer to test under stress.
That’s why it is a much more accurate test of performance.

I can get a zephyrus g15 with 6800hx and rtx3060 for the price of a base model m2 MacBook air. No comparison needed for me.

I will give you 3: longer run battery, better build and best screen quality on the market. I'm not sure which has the best sound quality but the studio sound on the mac is amazing.
@@lucaspham5238 sound quality is nice but you can always wear headphones. Screen quality is very important, specially brightness. I have the MacBook Pro 16 m1 pro and its a solid machine. My cousin has the g15 and its also very nice machine to be honest. The screen quality is actually really nice but, its not as bright which is a downside. If you work mostly indoor honestly you don't need 950 nits of brightness lol.

I kind of regret buying G15 (2022) instead of Macbook. G15 is a great laptop but all those Asus/Windows shitty software issues..I'm just too old for that. Not to mention the battery life and fan noise (while browsing the web) sucks. The best thing about G15 is its RTX performance which destroys all M chips when it comes to 3D rendering. Come on Apple, do something about GPU performance, please!!!

@@null_01 G15 3070 is still a fantastic laptop, nearly 1 year later or so since it released, and quite competitive with what is out there even today. Some even have theirs crypto mining overnight and making extra money from that, which helps pay down the laptop as well.

@@NamTran-xc2ip probably but you can also stick a fan under it when letting it run overnight mining, to keep the temps down a bit. the cpu can take a lot of heat, so i don't think it will matter. you will probably want to upgrade laptops before the end of life of the laptop anyway.

The mistake all reviewers do is judging performance according to their own video rendering. The G15 is a "Gaming Laptop", so the comparison should be according to gaming! Here we know that the macbook is a slouth! Or better:" Not usable"! There a many more gamers than "Video producers". Think about that!

A real I-9 and Ryzen 9 will destroy m1. Oh and just letting you know too even though it's and it has a full 380 or 3060 in it a real 3080 3060 desktop size will destroy one that's in a laptop and has more power it can access and everything it's way better
I understand that the macbook is $1000+ more expensive, but what about the resell or trade-in value after two years?
Depends on the region. Here in my country, ASUS has better support than Apple. So, people have more confidence in buying second hand ASUS laptop than Apple if both are out of warranty.
But still, I don’t think G15 is the right ASUS lineup to be compared with MBP.

Zephyrus is upgradable, 3060 version with same cpu and everything cost 1600usd (2000 dollars less), there is no comparision, I would take a couple of extra seconds and less performance for 2000usd anyday....
Damn in my country the m1 pro 16 inch and the g15 with a 3070 are the same price, at that point its a close call between these two depending on what games if any you’d ever want to play on the go.

Sorry Asus makes so much failures not even matched Apple and they are not even cheap although they put cheapest network card in every models . Lenovo might match Apple in pricewise.

Why buy a gaming laptop if you can only play games when the laptop is plugged in? Why not buy a gaming desktop instead? Much cheaper and easier to upgrade.
portability matters, that's why the word "Gaming Laptop" exists. And also most of the consumers who buy these laptops don't use them just for gaming, they also do GPU-based tasks also.
Sometimes you need a versatile machine to carry around. And to play games while chilling at home.
Having a MacBook and a soldered PC is perfect, but isn’t affordable for some people, for example, students. So I would go with a Zephyrus

Unplugged, the M1-air beats gaming laptops in every way (weight, battery life, and performance). Plugged in, the desktop beats the gaming laptop.
This combination saves money too because the gaming desktop is upgradable while the gaming laptop quickly loses value when faster GPU's come on the market. In contrast, the M1-air won't lose much value because it'll always be a very portable machine while the gaming laptop is heavy and not something one easily tosses in a backpack.

@@mhoeij And also for the price of a MacBook air m1($1000-$1200), You can get a decent gaming laptop. With $1500, u can get "Lenovo legion 5 pro with rtx 3080" which is one of the best this year. Can u build a beast desktop for $500( after $1000 spending on MacBook)? Now u will say, spend 500+ more and that desktop will beat this laptop easily but remember 99% doesn't need best of the best performance. They just need enough power to get their work done+ 2-2.5kg is not so heavy that u will struggle to carry.

90 decibels on the Asus Vs 40 - 45 decibals while working on projects and rendering.... I think that answers it for most people
It is temperature. 90 db is simply unachievable on any laptop or pc :)
Shouldn't a gaming laptop that is being compared test out games that it can play? No one is buying a gaming laptop for video editing.
People who rely on GPU based editing and rendering softwares do, as gaming laptops are cheaper than mobile workstations.

Easy. Its a gaming laptop after all. You want a webcam go buy a decent one 🤷🏻♂️. Most on the laptops are very crappy anyways. I do agree with you in the sense that smth is better than nothing but still that laptop is mostly for gamers
