    What are your thoughts on the new Lumix G9ii?

      yeah.. they're pricing it as if they're the first to use phase.. if ur interested in an mft, g9 used is like even $500.. for some people the main advantage will be phase, and they have to pay $1400 (over g9)? i tend to say its overpriced..

      I’ve been waiting for the price to drop. And it has but not enough yet.
      My question is focused on FF FOMO! What will I miss out on if I get a G9II rather than S5IIX. I mean other than the bokeh. Even the low light difference is minimal and noise is addressable. But I still observe some ‘full frame magic’ in some S5IIX clips and I can’t put my finger on the reason!!
      I have a Canon 5DIII and a G9 and love the MFT size and weight, and adaptability of lenses.

    My main camera is the S5ii, but I'm interested in grabbing the G9ii to lighten the load with a telephoto lens. The lighter I can get, the better in the airplane I'm flying! That said, I kind of wish Panny would release a smaller body M43 camera!

      @Democratiser 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you end up buying the G9II? I’m interested to understand what I will miss in terms of image quality (ie not just bokeh) and particularly the ‘full frame magic’. I still see a difference but I can understand the reason for it and how it can be mitigated / offset.

      @@Democratiser I haven't, at least yet. I think the biggest thing with sensor size is low light performance though. If you're primary shooting in daylight or controlled lighting, it doesn't matter nearly as much.

    I have both the G9 (about 5 years), and the GX9 (about 4 years). I love both, and own several lens that work with both, so an upgrade to the G9II is very much worth considering. However, I have also been considering the S5ii (pre G9II announcement). The price of the G9II seems very high. I might have to wait a year or two to get a price that I consider fair. Plus, if Panasonic releases a GX9II, that might be the one for me. I really like how small and feature-packed my GX9 is. And, since the G9II is about the same size at the S5II, I think “why not go to full frame?” I would probably only get the 12-60 to start, keep my GX9, sell my G9 and sell some of the lens that I don’t use as much. So much to consider. Never an easy decision, especially when price enters the equation. Really enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing.

    • @Democratiser
      @Democratiser 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m in a similar boat. I have a G9 and Canon 5DIII. I LOVE the size and weight benefit of the G9. BUT there is that ‘full frame magic’. The gap has closed with the G9II (and GH6) in terms of IQ. I’m keen to know what the remaining gaps are (other than bokeh) and how they can be mitigated. It might be that lens selection is the main one? Both mounts offer lots of choices (esp if adapted EF lenses are included in the mix) but they are just… different. Views?

      @@specter116 Yes that is the problem. Last Black Friday the S5II with 20-60mm and 14-28mm was less than the body only G9II. I’m hoping equivalent discounts are around for the G9II this year!
      I also would love a GX9II though...

    • @martyptx
      @martyptx 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@specter116 I’ve been in Sydney then on a New Zealand cruise for the past 2 + weeks, and I’ve used my GX9 almost exclusively with my 12-35 and 35-100 lenses. I only used my G9 with my 100-300 lens, which was rarely. I’m convincing myself to buy the S5II with the 20-60mm lens, when I see the next good sale or when Best Buy has 24 months interest free, then will sell my G9, my 8-18 mm and maybe my 40mm macro lens. I have found that my 35-100 works quite well as a macro lens when needed.

But have lots of lenses already…really tempted…just for the tech update!

    Honestly, I'm already quite fed up with a new model coming out every two months, the endless pursuit of the perfect camera, there's really no justification for changing a camera every few months. There is no difference between the cameras that is really worth making the switch, it is really better to invest in other things. do you agree with me?

      I've only been a camera owner for nearly 1 full year. I've heard several different things from several different people for years on cameras. But my take would be,a camera company should delve into making a camera as best as it can and leveling the cost factor also. A new camera here and there in close proximity seems redundant and only "bumps" could be withheld and accessed thru a firmware update. Smartphones are gathering a lot of workloads and definitely a convenient way still of creating. Everything has limitations but accessibility of equipment will hit everyone different and everyone is creating something different and there budgets are different as well.

    • @jockturner1547
      @jockturner1547 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I agree with you, just not in relation to Panasonic. Lumix is far from releasing a new camera every few months. Their previous release was the S5ii and that was over 8 months ago, the camera before that was the GH6 and that was about a 9 month difference as well. When you look at this new camera, its a follow up to a camera that came out over 6 years ago. Sony is the culprit for far too many camera models. It’s tiring and insane the amount of camera bodies they have released in the past year and devalues peoples investment into their systems. Especially with the lack of firmware updates being provided by Sony for older models. At lease Lumix updates their older cameras for quite some time past release

      @@jockturner1547 except for the S5 (oldschool) it was not updated since November 2022, since the S5II was announced. And this G9II has the same body as the S5II, what is laughable. They put a smaller sensor into it and removed the fan... that's it. The G- and GH- line were always different from the S-line in body size and shape, now they put the technology into the same body.

      Existing m43 users will be very interested in this camera, and there is great benefit in the small lenses. The IBIS of this camera is better than any full frame, and the only full frame camera that shoots full sensor width C4K 120p costs at least twice as much.

      Why would someone choose an m4/3 frame? perhaps because there are significant differences in size and weight between the telephoto lenses Lumix 100-300 is much smaller and lighter than the Sigma 150-600 telephoto lens, this matters a lot in nature photography

    It's hard to trust Panasonic and OM Systems to keep supporting the micro 4/3 system... Panasonic hasn't had meaningful lens releases aside from a few updated lenses. I guess if you use telephoto lenses there is benefit, but if you want compact why not go Sony or APS-C. G9 II isn't that much cheaper than S5 II, so the only benefit is the lens. Again, I'm not optimistic about micro 4/3 future. At least S5 II has L mount alliance so more new lenses will be released.

    • @03chrisv
      @03chrisv ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sony doesn't like to support their cameras by providing additional features and firmware updates. Basically what you buy is what you get with Sony, flaws and all. They make good cameras and have great lens selection but if your camera has a software flaw or missing a feature it should have chances are it'll never get fixed/updated.
